My son and I stopped into The Submarine House in Beavercreek for dinner this past Saturday evening between his AAU basketball tournament games. Even though the place was packed, the service was absolutely awesome -- fast, friendly, and on point. We ordered a pizza and a quesadilla, and both were made perfectly. You could tell everything was fresh and prepared with care. It's not easy to find a spot that handles a busy crowd without missing a beat, but Submarine House delivered. I looked up restaurants near me and seen this place! I thought ok, I'll give it a try! When I walked into this amazing restaurant I can smell the pleasing aroma of food, seen friendly smiles welcoming me in . I walked up and asked for a menu and was given one with a friendly smile and was told when ever you're ready I'll be glad to take your order. Soooo friendly sooooo welcoming! She was extremely helpful and was very attentive to my requests. When I got to my mom's house I was sooooo pleased with the delicious food and I feel personally that this restaurant is one of the best restaurants I have had the pleasure to eat from. This is one of my sons favorite places to eat and although I'm not a sub person I do like their Philly cheesesteak. So the other day I got a sandwich to go and when I got home with it I was in shock at what it looked like & tasted. It was quite possibly the worst tasting sandwich that I ever even tried. I could only eat a couple bites of it because it was so terrible. Normally their sandwich is delicious but not this 1, it was terrible The steak was burnt and tasted just horrific! I had ordered and paid for extra mushrooms and cheese. I could only find 4 mushrooms and very little cheese. Which left me wondering what I paid for?? If I hadn't been so tired I would've took it straight back but I was tired. I have to take the bus and walk a long way so I wasn't about to do that so I just ended up throwing it in the trash. I also ordered an order of mushrooms and those were burnt and nasty! I like most people work hard for my money only to get something that I threw in the trash. My softball team and would come here after each game because it was near the fields anf easy for everyone to get to and have some pitchers of beer. The service was hit or miss. Sometimes we waited awhile to be greeted, etc. The food isn't that great. But at the end of our season a group of us went there after our last game and we played music as usual on the touch-tunes. The bartender had friends at the bar that were also playing music. When there songs wouldn't play; the bartender would skip all the other songs that had been paid for. I found this incredibly rude. We had spent a large amount for money there over the course of our fall season even with mediocre service at times. But for the bartender to do this to repeat customers that had paid money for music was immature and terrible service. 16 inches of heaven? Not at this location! Worst cheesesteak I've ever had. The cook needs to put his salt and pepper in a cupboard, lock it and lose the key. Even my husband, who is far more tolerant than I am, doesn't care for this location. Since Milano's is just down the road, I won't have to go much farther for a cheese-steak! After going to the other location, I was deeply disappointment with the quality of sandwiches at this place. The bread tasted old and stale, the meat lacking and the toppings missing, but I know they were ordered. I even brought my best friend to my first time here and they said "you think these are great subs..." Needless to say, I am hoping this place steps it up. I was craving a Philly Cheesesteak and Yelped for a local joint that offered anything similar to a steak & cheese. Lo and behold, Submarine House Bar & Grill. Its proximity to my home was unmatched- it's literally in the same plaza as Kroger- so it had an abundance of parking. It even has an area for outdoor seating- I love looking at cars in a parking lot! I ordered a steak & cheese with onions with a side of cheese sauce to-go. It came with white American and no onions and small chopped up pieces of meat. Weird... but this is Ohio, not Boston and definitely not Philly, and it may not be what I'm used to. Bleh. The thing was atrocious. When I called back to see what happened with my order ("Yo, where my onions at?"), I was told that I needed to be more specific when ordering. Apparently there are a number of combinations of steak & cheese one may be able to order. And I was informed of those after paying for my meal and after biting into a grinder sans onions. Well, it was my first time at that establishment and I would have imagined the server might've been more informative. Serious side eye. Food sucked, but my H said the bar is pretty ok. Today the stars aligned for the Submarine House and myself. Usually I am underwhelmed with either the service, the food, or both. But my wife likes their fried mushrooms, so we occasionally go just for her. Today, we were promptly greeted and seated. Good. Our waitress arrived shortly after for our drink order. Another plus. So service today is better, and friendlier than normal. My wife got her usual of a grilled chicken salad and fried mushrooms. She loves those mushrooms, so she was happy. Today, I went against my better judgement and got a cheese steak. Normally they are not so good, but it was the special and I felt like going cheap. I am so glad I did. For once, the fries that came with it were actually hot and crispy, not luke warm and mushy. The roll for the cheese steak was actually crunchy outside and soft and warm inside. The meat was a little over seasoned with the salt, but not enough to kill my taste buds like normal. Someone came by and cleared our dishes after we were done and the waitress brought the bill in a reasonable time. Overall, still lots of room for improvement, but if they keep it up like they did today, I'll be back more often. read more

My husband, 2-year-old son and I stopped by the Submarine House for dinner tonight and we were all impressed...the little dude included (might be due to the fact that they have chicken fingers and fries...no brainer)! We've been eyeballin' this place for over a year now because we shop at the Kroger and today we decided to stop in for a bite. Really glad we did! The restaurant had a friendly vibe to it, super clear big-screen tv's on the wall (perfect for some football in the fall) and a good mix of high-top tables, booths, low tables and the bar looked to have decent seating but we didn't get too close. I had a 4" chicken cheese steak w/"the works" and I thought it was amazing...definitely prefer it over the sub I had a Milano's earlier in the year (but I LOVE me some Milano's pizza so no hating here). The bread was fresh, the chicken perfectly seasoned and "the works" included just enough mayo to moisten the sandwich but not too much where it's just slimy and eew. I ordered fries with my sandwich and they were perfectly cooked but could have used a bit more salt -- no problem though, I'd rather use more at the table than have them show up over-salted. I had them put the hot pepper relish on the side because I'm a wuss and I'm glad I did. The flavor was excellent but it did pack a bit of heat so I'm glad I could control how much went on my sandwich. Loved the stuff...just made my eyes water. I'd order it again!! My husband had a Philly steak salad, no dressing, and, well, it was a salad so I paid little attention to it. He said the meat was good though so there's my input on that. Our service was excellent. We were immediately greeted at the door and the hostess made sure we were seated outside as far away from the smoking as possible -- without us even having to ask. Treska was our server and she did a wonderful job. She showed up immediately after we sat down and got settled, got our little guy's order in right away and our drinks came out super fast. She checked in at appropriate times and was very friendly. Lastly, you can't beat their prices! Three meals (two adults, one child) and three beers = $21.00! Bonus points to their drink special -- $1.50 short draft BL, CL, Yuengling and something else. What?! A buck fifty for a beer. Sign me up! Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was rather disappointed in my first ever visit to a Submarine House. Let's start with the sub, I'd give it a 3. Average at best and definitely not on par with Penn Station sandwiches. My "toasted" bread was instead burnt to the point that I had to pick off most of it. The French fries were worse than any fast food restaurant I've experienced. The restaurant itself had that distinctive hole-in-the-wall bar feel to it, and that is not a complement. I felt uncomfortable waiting for a to go order as I was surrounded by drunk patrons slurring their words at 6:00 PM. Very far from family friendly. The only bright spot to this visit was the bartender who rang me out for this to go order. Very friendly and seems to enjoy working with people. read more

Today, Saturday March 13, 2021 I ordered a Hot Sub online. I was given 5:15 as a pickup time. I arrived at 5:18 and was told that it would be 7 more minutes. I waited and and 5:40 that they were bagging it up. At 5:45 I told the waitress that I needed to leave and could I have a refund. She told me that she would talk with the manager. Three minutes went by and she finally came back with my to go order ( supposedly the HOT sub I ordered). She asked if I still wanted the order or a refund. By this time I took the sub and left. When I unwrapped the Sub it was ICE cold. During my long wait, I watched the kitchen. In the kitchen at the grill was a employee without a mask. I watched him wipe his mouth with the back of his hand and go straight back to the grill. I do NOT think I will be going back to this restaurant. I was happy when I left. A few weeks later I went back to try their pizza. Now I'm in love. I think their pizzas are one of the best in the area. Now I go in for dinner at least 2 to 3 times a month.
