I've lived in Riverside for nearly ten years, and went to this place for the first time about a week ago. And now I'm kicking myself. Allow me to elaborate further. I've lived in Riverside for nearly ten years, including one year by campus, and one year up the hill from this shopping center...and still never ate here. Regrets, I've had a few. We had the taco potato and the chicken pesto sandwich, based on the very sweet cashier's recommendations, and both were awesome. Awesome enough that we were practically sobbing into our potatoes over not having eaten there sooner. The potatoes were good, the ingredients plentiful, and everything was cooked to suit. Maybe we weren't actually crying into our potatoes, but we've pretty much brought this place up as a meal option for every meal since then. The downside, and this seems to be their only one, is their hours. Not open after 3 on Saturdays, closed Sundays, and only open until 7 on weeknights. Since we live closer to downtown these days, you couldn't pay me to get on the 60/215 eastbound before 7 typically. But for potatoes, I may well make the sacrifice occasionally. This place is only minutes from my place. I prefer going here over the Subway that is in the same shopping center. There are a wide variety of sandwiches available. Additionally, they have salads, stuffed potatoes and much more. They always have a few lunch specials to choose from and it is reasonably priced. On a warm summer day I like to sit outside at one of the tables under the shade and enjoy the passing traffic while enjoying a good sandwich. The service is always great and friendly. I am regular there so the owner is pretty cool and we chat it up a bit. So friendly and always makes sure I have everything I came for and that I was satisfied. She even makes recommendations for new stuff that seems to be popular. They are always adding to the menu. If I am in the mood for a salad, the Chinese Chicken Salad is so refreshing and you can get the dressing on the side, which I prefer. There is indoor seating but not much in the way of any formal dining or waiter service, much like any other sandwich shop, it is a quick in and out type of place. I LOOOVE this place! The food is so fresh and delicious, and the service is great. My favorite is the Oriental Chicken Salad. My only problem has been that I can only eat half of it, so need to cart the other half with me till I can get it home. But, they have solved that problem for me; they now have a half size in a bowl that is perfect. They'll even put that on a plate for you, if you prefer. Decided to have lunch here with my friends. I am vegetarian so I ordered a vegetarian sub with no mayo, oil, and vinegar. It was around $8.00 for 12 inches. The customer service here is really nice. The young lady that helped us was extremely patient even through we were so indecisive and we asked millions of questions. The only thing is that something was missing... We tried this place for dinner after recently moving to Canyon Crest and this place is delicious! We ordered the bacon, cheese & sour cream stuffed baked potatoes, a turkey avocado sub, & a grilled chicken wrap. The potatoes were amazing! They're huge and you get the perfect potato/toppings ratio with every bite. Seriously, we should've just ordered those for dinner because it was sooooo much! The sandwiches are on some pretty disappointing bread with a soft crust that gives in at the slightest bit of pressure, and there are only white and wheat available. In between the bread is pretty standard fare. The potatoes are not bad, though. They don't exactly blow me away, but I suppose they'll do if you just have to have a baked potato with a bunch of toppings. I would like to like this place more though, because they have such a large menu. Their salads look pretty good, and the prices aren't bad. I also want to like this place more because all of the employees are super friendly and nice. But in the end, I just can't like it that much. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. The first time I came was a while back when it was owned by an Asian couple. It was recommended by a friend who liked their oriental chicken salad very much. I felt the salad was mediocre but I blamed it on the fact that I'm not a big fan of salads in general. Fast forward to a year or so later; I had an odd craving for an Asian chicken salad and was around canyon crest. I decided to drop by Subs & Spuds. The place had signs up about new management. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a friendly lady at the register. I could see more people working in the back and I assumed that the Asian couple sold the store to this family. I got my chicken salad and took a bite. !!!! It was absolutely amazing! The chicken breast is great (they make it every night before), and the leaves are always freshly washed and cut right after you order. The sesame dressing for the salad is delicious as well. Their wonton strips are always crunchy and not soggy or stale. I usually have that on the side because it's a bit fattening. I still rarely eat salads as a meal but this is the only one I'll eat. After visiting so often, the family in the shop pretty much always knew my order, how I liked the wonton strips on the side, and how much dressing i liked. They're the most friendly family I've ever met. I've never felt unwelcome or left unsatisfied from the store. Sometimes they throw in a free iced tea with my order. You can always tell they're genuinely happy to feed you (haha). I made it a point to visit them at least weekly to have a salad. I've had their sandwiches and potatoes before and they are pretty good as well. I wouldn't say it's my favorite but my boyfriend loves their giant potatoes and their generous toppings. The sandwiches are always packed with the freshest ingredients as well. They've kept most of the menu from the previous owners but have added a lot of personal touches to the items to make them better. The dressings and soups are homemade as well and they put a lot of heart into what they make. I know they also love customer input on their food so customer satisfaction is their top priority. Also, the tables and floors are always kept clean. I've moved away from Riverside since then, but I crave their salads all the time. Go visit this place and support the mom and pop shops. Came for the potatoes but was disappointed. Had the broccoli cheddar potato and my friend had the chili and cheese potato. I was expecting creamy cheesy potato but got a dry potato with a little melted cheddar over a few broccoli florets. I had them add chicken for more flavor. My daughter had the potato soup but it was more like a milk chowder broth with chunks of veggies. She refused to eat it. She's used to potato soup from Outback Steakhouse. I've past this place hundreds of times and finally tried it. I was torn between a 3/4 and am willing to come back to see if they can earn a higher mark. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak and my standards are pretty high so this might not be a fair test. To their credit the bread was great and there was plenty of substance to the sandwich, it just didn't have the "it" factor to properly call it Philly cheesesteak. My favorite is the Royal Potato (baked potato with turkey, ham, mushrooms, cheese, butter and sour cream). So good! My mom and I split a combo that comes with a 6" sub and the Royal potato. It's $8.95 and it fills us both up. Every sandwich we've tried is fantastic - especially the Reuben (my honey's favorite). This place is SO good! I have gotten the chicken pesto sandwich and roast beef and cheese potato. The roast beef is layered on top with the melted cheese. The potato is baked to the point where it just literally melts in your mouth. Their food is just the right portion. The ratio of each item is just the right amount so one ingredient isn't overpowering another. The service is super friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant is usually quiet and casual. This food is sub par. It looks good from their pictures that they post but honestly they're really only good about potatoes. The people working there are nice though! I had the breakfast wrap with avocado. They're slightly dishonest because they charged me a dollar for avocado when it clearly states it's 75 cents. I'm not cheap but the moral behind the story is that they could have charged me a dollar instead of dishonestly pricing it at 75 cents. As for the actual breakfast there was barely any avocado, meat, and surprisingly even eggs! Unfortunately it was mostly potatoes. If you're into a starch packed meal then go for it!!! Yes, they charge for credit cards and for those that complain about it: do some research, it costs THEM money because you refuse to carry cash. So those that use cards: plan ahead, bring cash. Not just here, everywhere! Other than that, friendly atmosphere, great food, homey setting and great staff! I take friends here all the time and they're never disappointed.
