This place is my go-to fast, healthy, and delicious lunch spot. They have an amazing Cuban sandwich and I often modify the barbecue chicken baked potato to have veggies in it as well. Honestly I've heard a lot of mixed things from this place. I came just after closing one afternoon, but the worker and the chef still let me order something. I told him that this was my first time at this place and he proceeded to clearly and concisely explain the menu. What a friendly guy! I love to try local sandwich spots and this is honestly the best one I've been to so far. I'm vegetarian so the cashier Brian gave me options that weren't on the menu and he helped me create a custom vegetarian hot sub that was so amazing. My boyfriend got the Philly cheesesteak sub and loved that too. We also got a broccoli cheddar stuffed spud that had us drooling. Seeing as potatoes are my favorite food, I got so excited when I first saw this place in the plaza. A whole restaurant dedicated to sandwiches and POTATOES?!?! I. Am. There. Subs & Spuds is a small little restaurant with a surprisingly big menu. They have lots of different sandwiches and lots of variety in their potatoes. They also have a breakfast menu offered from 8-11 AM, I believe, which I have yet to try. Everyone there is really friendly and helpful and the food comes out pretty quickly. The food is pretty affordable for what you get. They also have a stamp card system! I have only tried one of their sandwiches, the chicken pesto. It was kinda smaller than I was expected it to be, but it was still really good! Their potatoes are made with russet potatoes, typically the size of your hand. I have had a few of their potatoes: * Buffalo Chicken: This is a seasonal item, so I'm not sure if they'll still have it if you visit! This one was just ok to me. I've never thought about pairing buffalo sauce with potatoes before so the flavor was a bit strange to me. * Meatball: The meatballs are so big! This was pretty good :] * Taco: This one has ground beef, cheese, sour cream, peppers, and a side of salsa. YUM! This is one good combination of foods. * JUMBO: Holy shit. If you would notice, this particular dish is much more expensive than the other potato dishes and for good reason. This is DOUBLE (2X) the size of the regular potatoes! I can't remember what exactly this had on it, but the answer is: almost everything. There was bacon, ham, cheese, chili, broccoli, the WORKS. This is more than enough for 2 people to share or 1 person with leftovers. Bomb. Overall, I really like this little place and would definitely come here again. Everytime I come here, I notice that there's rarely ever students in here? I hope that more students find out about this place because the food is both cheap and good! read more

The price you have to pay for a simple baked potato or a sandwich in addition to the amount of time you have to wait watching them do nothing in the kitchen is not worth it for this place. I have been a regular customer of Subs & Spuds for a very long time, since it was first taken over by the new owners. They have a variety of very tasty sandwiches, salads, and filled potatoes. I have never eaten anything there that I didn't like. I have a few things I order regularly that I am particularly fond of eating. Lately my number one choice in sandwiches is their Cuban. I get it with extra mustard and pickles. I am addicted. Second choice is their breakfast wraps on their morning menu. These are extremely tasty and filling. The staff at this place is top notch. My circle of friends and I have become friends with the owner and the employees at Subs & Spuds and enjoy their friendly helpful demeanor. We will continue frequenting this place forever. read more

This is the only good sandwich place that I know around the area. The ingredients that they use on their sandwiches taste fresh. The sandwiches are way better than subway since subway uses artificial ingredients and also microwave the meat. The sandwiches here take a little longer to make, but it is all worth the wait since you know that you are getting quality food. I think that the Philly cheese steaks are delicious especially with soft fresh wheat bread. The stuffed potatoes are also great since they get creative with all different kinds of toppings such as chicken and all sorts of veggies. Friendly staff makes sure you are satisfied. read more

First time trying this sandwich shop and completely enjoyed the food. This place has hot/cold sandwiches, baked potato and salads. They also serve breakfast items but only between opening and 11am. I got a lunch special which was a turkey sandwich with a bowl of soup. Also, the drink was included in the meal. The only problems I had was that I did ask for my sandwich to be toasted and it was not. But, it was still yum. Also, it did take a while to get my food. I'm reviewing this place off of my first visit. I walked in and was greeted by worker, I told her I had never been here before and asked for any recommendations. Her favorite was the Chicken Pesto Sandwich, but she also informed me about the other cold subs, wraps, and salads. I decided to go for the hot Chicken Pesto Sandwich. The sandwich was great, it was warm, the bread was soft and the ingredients tasted fresh. I would definitely come back to this place for another sandwich. I love Subs and Spuds. I recently moved nearby, and the convenient location combined with the friendly staff and fantastic quality has made me a regular customer. Everything that I've tried, from a simple turkey on white to a cuban panini to a philly cheesesteak to a bacon and cheese baked potato has been great. And to top it off, last time I was there, another customer was talking to the guy at the counter about how great the dressing on the asian salad is, so the guy gave me a little to go cup of it so I could try it too. And it was a really great salad dressing. Overall, the prices, convenience, quality, and staff has made this one of my favorite sandwich places in Riverside. When i go to a sandwich place i like to see something new and progressive. or cheaply priced. you will find neither here. i had a cuban which in itself is a very simple item. it was below decent, the pork wasnt marinaded at all and was pretty dry. my girlfriend had a turkey avocado sandwich and the avo was very skimpy. not worth the extra price they charge for it. they do have stuffed potatoes but being from idaho i refuse to name this as different. its a twice baked potato you can make in a few minutes once the potato is cooked. for 4-6 bucks i think not. i love to support local business but this meal of two sandwiches one bag of chips and one drink ran us $17!!! couldve tried something new or progressive for that price! subway is much better if you want a sandwich. nothing new and exciting there either read more

When I walked in to this place I had no idea what to expect, it seemed like a nice, clean little deli. I had their cuban sandwich and honestly it was one of the best renditions of an authentic cuban sandwich I have ever had. The bread was awesome, it came a bit smashed and heated on the top (just like the hot brick style of a cuban sandwich). The pork was tender and tasty. I also enjoyed their potato salad. I've been attending UCR for three years now, almost a mile down the street and I haven't found this place till now?!? Some of the best sandwiches in riverside, the baked potatoes are incredible, and the people that run the place are awesome! Definitely will be making this a regular stop. So far I've tried their jalapeño steak and cheese sandwich, as well as the jumbo potato and both are delicious. For the price, the potato might be the best deal around, it has everything imaginable on it. I would recommend both to first timers. read more

I came here with friends on a very full stomach. One ordered a chinese chicken salad and the other got a the royale potato (i think that is what it is called). They both gave me a taste and OMG! the food was good. The very next day I got the chinese chicken salad and it was really good. The large size is indeed a large portion. I usually don't like ordering salads but this place is an exception. The greens were fresh and the chicken was well cooked.. not to mention the sauce and the wonton chips. YUMMY!
