I was in the area shopping and wanted a coffee, I decided to try this cute little place out. It caught my attention because it was a drive up coffee shop but the weather was nice and we wanted to sit outside. They have a cute little seating area & the staff was friendly. I tried the Mexican Mocha, iced, the flavor reminded me of being a kid. We also had a Subterranean Açaí Bowl, plenty of fruit, oats and honey on top. I wanted to give this place a fair review based on three visits. My first experience was great. A Hispanic gentleman made my bagel and matcha to perfection, and he was extremely kind and welcoming. Everything was prepared well, and I left very satisfied. Unfortunately, my second and third visits were both on Sundays, and the experience was completely different. Both times, a older blonde woman prepared my matcha, and it was very bland and poorly blended, with large chunks left in it. We also ordered bagels, and they were essentially just bread with very little flavor or substance. The first Sunday, we figured maybe she was still learning and didn't think much of it. However, our second Sunday visit was even worse than the first. At that point, it seemed like the quality was consistently different depending on who was working. As a business owner myself, I understand how important consistency and customer service are. I always try to make sure every customer receives the same quality experience because that's what keeps people coming back. Unfortunately, these experiences really changed my impression of the brand and spoiled my taste for it. At this point, I'd rather go to Better Buzz or Starbucks, where I know what to expect. Hopefully management takes this feedback seriously because the first experience showed me that this location is capable of providing a great product and excellent service. read more

Came by while we were exploring South Park as we were in the mood for some coffee, we ordered a Vietnamese iced latte and an iced rose Chai latte. The rose chai was yummy, and very, very very sweet. I honestly couldn't finish the whole thing it was so sweet. The Vietnamese coffee was super good, but also very sweet. It tasted a little better after the ice melted and watered it down a bit. This little coffee booth has quaint seating where you can sit and read a book or enjoy your drink. The girl working the counter was really nice. If we visited again we would definitely request half-sweet in our drinks. read more

This is a nice small shack in South Park. Theres outdoor seating and you could even drive thru if needed. They provide all your morning needs like pastries, coffee, smoothies, and much more. I am not one to write reviews but I've never had a small business bamboozle me so hard like i did today. i have been here so many times, i love the coffee and the food is decent, I was there this morning, and mind you (THE OWNER OF THE PLACE WAS WORKING) He sells me a " breakfast sandwich with sausage, cheese, and egg on a croissant" I'm like oh great that sounds wonderful so I ordered it. I drive away. I take a bite out of it, and realize I got bamboozled into buying one seven dollar Jimmy Dean croissant breakfast sandwich that's the size of my palm. And he also told " yes they're really good!" so I was actually excited about it, because some of their stuff is actually homemade. I took it back and he knew exactly what he did wrong. Service was wonderful today! So glad I was told about this business having a drive through as I didn't go to the other location because I didn't feel like dealing with parking. Got the Sub açaí bowl and it was delicious. Bummed they don't have almond butter or chia pudding. So I might try other spots going forward if I feel like getting out of my car. read more

There were lots of reviews on the Acai bowls and I'm sure they are one of the best in town based on the pictures posted alone! Great place to grab coffee and go if you're local in the neighborhood. Probably not the safest as their are homeless (but that's more of the city's issue. There's plenty of seating and a lovely outdoor San Diego vibes. It's also located near other food trucks too so that's a plus. Tried the Keith Richards $6.75 (4 shots of espresso and Mexican chocolate). This drinker kicked my booty and I love it. The other drinks that my group had 1-2 shots and were more drinking for flavor than the coffee itself. Ok hear me out--Subterranean is the best coffee in South Park. You might be thinking, but what about Communal, or Cafe Madeline, even Dark Horse?? I will say those are all great, but what it comes down to for me is Subterranean has all their great qualities--and more--in one. I think the highlight is their coffee most of all. I always get some form of iced caramel oat milk latte and theirs tastes the best and the sweetest. Other than the coffee, they're fast, offer drive-thru & outside seating, have great people, and offer a lot on their menu including food and smoothies. I enjoyed a very nice yogurt, banana, and strawberry smoothie from this Subterranean Coffee location. It's not a brick and motor, but more of a kiosk with seating and a drive thru. The smoothie was very good. The banana and strawberry flavors were right up front, but I would of liked to taste that yogurt a bit more. The smoothie had good consistency which means it was thick yet creamy and easy to drink. Although, one has to be careful to avoid brain freeze. Cute spot in a little hur. You can drive up if you want or sit and enjoy in the chairs and tables outside. Really nice peeps working here and the coffee is delicious. I had the Coconut Explosion and it was nutty and helped quench my coconut craving. Hubs had the Chocolate Hazelnut Mocha and said it was the best he's ever had. This place was bought about a year ago by Subterranean. We tried their Mexican mocha, a berry smoothie, and an acai bowl. The Mexican mocha is one of their best sellers. It isn't overly sweet which surprised me. It's a solid choice. Berry smoothie was fresh and tasty. A nice way to start a morning. The acai bowl was big and hearty. Great ingredients. Fresh! The perfect amount of everything. Want to try their baked goods that they deliver from an independent bakery every morning! Will do that next time. Next time, I would definitely get an extra shot of espresso and ask for less sweetness on the drink. Another great place for Acai. My daughter and I had the protein bowl with peanut butter but even without it it would still have been just right for me. For some reason or another whenever I have a chance to pick up a bowl and have devoured it it somehow settles well in my stomach. Service is spotty. I always ask for extra hot coffee, but get it about half the time. More often than not they're out of non-dairy milks. Yet they have the nerve to charge $1 extra for it! Sub: plant based milks are no longer that much more expensive than cow milk. So stop charging extra. If you insist, at least put up a sign to let people know you're ripping them off. read more

I'm the nightmare customer that walked in 5mins before closing; 1:55pm. A sweet and kind barista walked up to my car in the drive thru and I asked if the acai Bowls were still available. They said Yeah of course! So I ordered and paid. Because I came right before the storefront was closing for the day, I assumed my bowls were gonna be a little dinky maybe sparce, as punishment for making them stay longer than intended. WAS. I. WRONG. LOOK AT THESE BOWLS. STILL JAM PACKED WITH ALL THE GOODIES. NOT AN INGREDIENT SKIMPPED ON. EVERY SPOT AVAILABLE WAS FILLED. What a gift to be thankful for a day after Thanksgiving. Great little local spot to get Acai bowls in South Park. They have a few different ones to choose. I went with the Unicorn Pitaya bowl. Fruit was fresh and portions were perfect. I was able to mix the fruit and get some fruit in every bite. The coconut topping had a little crunch to it and was great for adding texture. The only food I would not try are the muffins/pastries sitting in clear container on counter. They looked very dried out and unappetizing. They have outside seating but it's right next to the road and not my favorite place to eat outside so I take my order to go. read more

Finished my yoga class and was in the mood for a good ol smoothie. Hopped on yelp and cane across this gem! The gentleman who helped me was super friendly and recommended the Siamese Basil smoothie. BEST. ACAI. BOWL. In San Diego!! Seriously. I have driven far and wide looking for a good acai bowl around the area and this is it! Look no further!! If you like your acai on the harder and more frozen side with a rich acai taste and a deep purple color, you will love this. Most acai bowls are blended with apple juice that make them more liquid-y and flavorless. Even though I live 20 minutes away from this small coffee stand, I am always willing to make the drive. They pack the bowl with a TON of toppings! They seriously don't skimp you and you definitely get your moneys worth. They also have really great drinks like their matcha latte and coffees. Came to this drive thru to try some coffee, my favorite part is that you can park at the target and sit outside or you can just pull up with your car. The baristas were nice and helpful. The drinks we got were a bit slow to come out, which is something you should consider coming here, despite the drive thru (greater than 10min for 2 drinks). Also the drinks we got were pretty sweet so make sure you ask for less sugar if you don't want it to be too sweet. The outdoor seating is cute and not a bad first date spot if the weather is nice! read more

I ordered a blueberry muffin and they took 20 minutes to pull it out of the case up front and give it to me despite fully serving 5+ customers ahead of me and perfectly remembering the "regulars" order ahead of me who was also served first and left before me, despite me showing up with one customer ahead of me. 20 minutes for a blueberry muffin that they didn't even warm up is pretty insulting. I should also add the workers with the exception of one guy, RARELY smile like they are eternally trapped in there to work forever and they know it so they act like it. read more

Finally gave this place its last chance this morning, used to come here all the time when it was Kirks and loved it hasn't been the same since, not sure if they only make 3 of everything or what but they are always sold out of everything even early in the day, after settling for what seemed to be the only breakfast item they had she later came to my car and gave me cookie (perfect breakfast) and said "sorry turns out we are out of that too is this okay" seems to be a new staff member every time we go seems like they can't keep an employee which is probably why the same drink will taste different every time in it's own terrible way, chai latte tasted like they dumped a pound of cinnamon in it and the honey lavender latte that we used to love i wouldn't order it for my worst enemy. It seems that the previously made to order acai, with fresh fruit etc. has now gone to a pre-packaged and semi-frozen version, which causes the fruit and granola to become mushy. That fresh healthy taste just isnt the same. Maybe it is a matter of convenience, but I am leaning toward taking my acai business elsewhere to get made to order bowls. read more

No different really than any other shop but Kirks was our go to when we lived in the area back In day. It's convenient if you live in South Park and don't want to park somewhere and get out of your car to go into a better coffee shop. I will say the açaí bowls are pretty decent. The coffee on the other hand is sub-par. Stay away from the Lavender Honey Latte which manages to taste neither like honey, lavender, nor latte and all for $5.50. The ladies that work there seem to be nice but there are much better places to get an expensive coffee or tea drink in South Park. read more
