I recently revisited Barrio Coffee and had an iced matcha latte and a locally baked cinnamon bun. The matcha latte was very well made and delicious. It was clean with a rich grassy finish and a subtle sweetness, even without adding any sweetener to the beverage. The cinnamon roll was very good too. The hospitality was first rate. The young lady working the counter was very nice and offered great service. They offer locally made breakfast burritos in the mornings, baked goods and pastries, and a full espresso bar with some great coffees. read more

I really wanted to give this place more stars, but the coffee didn't do it for me. Iced horchata latte 1/5 I didn't taste horchata flavor at all, I was surprised because he said it was a homemade syrup. The coffee flavor wasn't as strong as well, to me it was a watered down latte with cinnamon sprinkled on top. Iced matcha latte 3/5 I don't matcha but my daughter had it and she said it was okay. Cinnamon roll 2/5 Pastry tasted artificial and was half way warmed up. Service 4/5 Friendly walked the drinks lit to us outside. Inside is cute and small felt and looked clean. I wouldn't mind giving this place another try. Not sure if it's worth it to me though. read more

Was not busy at all during the week, we got our coffees pretty quick. The coffee shop itself is a great place to hang out at, they have seating inside and out. A coffee shop located in Sherman Heights! I've actually never been in this neighborhood before, but it was pretty nice. The shop is a standalone (no other businesses next door) and they have a nice seating area inside and out. The exterior has a lovely color scheme of black, teal blue, white, and orange. You won't miss it when you drive past! They do have some parking spots in the front-- but most people parked around the block. The owner, Michael, was super friendly and gave us recommendations of where to go for amazing views! (Panoramic photographs). I went with their $6.50, 12 oz, Hot Orange Creamsicle Latte with Whole Milk. I typically get iced although it was quite chilly and overcast in the morning so I ordered this hot. It was delightfully delicious! The orange citrus notes came through beautifully-- all fresh tasting, no hint of extract. The vanilla was nicely balanced as well, and the drink was the perfect ratio of milk vs espresso. I would highly recommend this drink! Also, my friend ordered the Iced Orange Creamsicle Matcha and stated that it was one of the best flavors (so good that when we came back from our walk she had to order another). Since it was a new space for me I didn't know where all the lids, straws, napkins, etc were but Michael helped me out-- which I am very thankful for. He even decorated the top of the drink with a dehydrated orange slice. It was very nice. I liked that! & the fact that their work space was very clean and organized. I can't wait to come back to order a diff specialty latte, I heard they have a nice guava one or a cold foam topped drink. They do have some pastries, etc as well. Friendly service when we entered! Lots of seating! I never expect a perfect drink but I always atleast hope for a little flavor. I drank my coffee halfway to be exact, trying to see it through in silence of my real opinion. After being the one to suggest this place to my girls I didn't want to sound negative or interrupt their own opinion. They got 2 hot coffees, one pilloncillo and guava. After a couple sips each, when we were in the car, I confessed I was not satisfied with my drink. Then my 2 girls with hot coffees agreed, we concluded each drink was too bland and had almost a bitter aftertaste, all tasting similar although being different flavors? Cool spot at the corner of G and 25th. Small selection of pastries. Nice seasonal menu in addition to their regular menu. Medium size coffee shop with lots of cool art on the walls. Not the place to work from as they only have one table. However, they have three large benches and some plants. Nice large window with lots of natural light. A few tables outside with shade. My boyfriend lives in this hood and we keep eyeing this spot. We do Sunday morning walks and decided to stop by and try it out. I digged the decor and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Such a local gem here in San Diego. My husband brought me an iced vanilla latte from here and it was so good I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I went back myself and tried their matcha too which was really delicious. I love that they offer 12oz cups for iced drinks because it allows the drink to be more coffee fwd vs 16oz cups. They make their syrups in-house too and they taste really high quality. Need to come back to try the burritos! Definitely a great find with some really kind staff. read more

Such a cute spot and the staff was super nice ! I came here specifically craving a matcha and ordered the strawberry shortcake matcha. Unfortunately it just wasn't for me it tasted more like sweet cereal milk than an actual matcha, and I could barely taste the matcha itself. My boyfriend wasn't really a fan of his drink either. He gave great recommendations, explained the menu clearly, and really paid attention to what I was in the mood for. You can tell Marcos genuinely cares about his craft and the people he serves. Customer service is spot on. Great ambiance and always has great music on and makes you want to chill and relax if you have time. The Mexican mocha is so good and the danishes look amazing when in stock (sale quickly I think). The quality of the drink and service gets 5 starts for sure. 4 starts for the parking availability and prices. They do charge more than Starbucks. A few weeks ago my husband and I went for a drive in the neighborhood we both grew up. He notice a new coffee shop and decided to make a u-turn to try it... let me tell u it was the best decision my hubby had made that week!! :) we both had cold coffee and it was delicious I can't remember the exact name of it since it was a seasonal drink but that soft top was to die for!! The place had very simple decore but very clean yet cozy. The owner came out to talk to use and gave us a little back story about the place he also let us try their burritos which were AMAZING. Customer service was friendly, helpful, and on point.
