Suburban Ace Hardware is located on 185th just north of TV Highway. The parking lot is small and a bit inconvenient if you're heading south when you leave. This store carries all the typical items found at hardware stores including paint, plumbing and electrical merchandise in addition to lawn and garden. With a few exceptions, the employees are all knowledgeable and welcoming. There are two downsides to shopping here. The prices are a bit higher than their competitors and they have somewhat limited hours of operation, closing early and only open 12-5 on Sunday. But overall it's a nice local store. read more

When I need a "hardware" related item I usually go the the big box store that's just down the street from me. The box stores typically have the best prices in town but are also pushing the smaller "mom and pop" local outfits out of business. True, Ace is a chain but I believe the stores are franchise operations so patronizing them helps the local economy and my neighbors. Plus, trying to chase down someone in an orange apron to find what I need is very annoying as is having to dodge fork trucks in the store that seem intent on running customers over. You get none of that at this store. Prices at Ace are usually a little higher although I tend to go there specifically to take advantage of something that's on sale. Staff tends to seek you out to see if you need assistance rather than being "too busy" as they usually are elsewhere. For me, excellent customer service trumps low prices and always has. Ace is not all that convenient for me but we like to stop in to the fruit stand next door on a regular basis so if I have something on my list when I am close by that can often make a sale. Businesses like this are slowly starting to go the way of the moose. You can get a lot of what they carry at the larger Walmart stores. Plus, several big box hardware chains are killing businesses like these with their low prices. I think their demise is probably inevitable and I will miss them when they are gone. This is THE BEST hardware store I have found. They always seem to have exactly what I need, and a lot of items you can find priced individually. Additionally, everyone working at the store is so nice! They seem genuinely happy to help problem solve or explain. A few years ago the incoming waterline to my house was broken on the Friday afternoon before Christmas - we had to turn the water off at the street. Unfortunately getting a plumber to come out was not going to be feasible and we didn't want to go without water all weekend. We popped on down to Ace with some pictures and someone helped us pick out a solution that would allow us to have our water on until a plumber could come out. In fact, we were going to purchase extra parts and return what we didn't need later, but the guy helping us was doing his best to trim down our order so it was a cheap as possible (I guess to help save money for Christmas). We actually live a lot closer to the Hillsboro Ace, but I prefer to go out of my way to this location. read more

I was was treated like a 2nd class citizen and refused service after being followed around the by the manager for not wearing a mask in the store. I go all over town too Costco, Walmart, Target, Home Depot and Lowes and never get treated this way. The manager hovered over me like I was going to steal something. I have had Covid-19 and been Vaxxed none of which should be is anyone at this hardware stores business, but to refuse to sell me some little product that I already had and was ready to pay MY MONEY to your store is unforgivable I will never shop at any Ace Hardware store again. Do you need a washer for a 20 year old faucet? An unusual fastener? Help and advice with a PVC pipe project? Bird seed? Key made for your newer car? A clip, a plug, a spring, some wire, some rope, a cleaner, a sealant, some glue? A furnace filter, faucet cover, shower head, lawn food, a wheel barrow? This place is a mini Home Depot/Lowes without the big ticket stuff. I almost never fail to find what I'm looking for, but most of the time I need help to locate it, or even decide what it is that I need. I don't know if the nut in my hand is metric, english, stainless, brass and what pitch the threads are. That is where the staff comes in. They know. They know what that part is and where to find it in the store. They know the questions to ask. They know what to recommend. And most importantly, they have it on hand. New stuff, old stuff, common stuff and uncommon stuff. It's all there. Do I have trouble getting helped? On occasion, everyone is helping other customers or just not around. But not very often. And I've never been told "that's not my department". And when it is time to check out? Up to three registers at a time are blazing away with modern scanners and point of sale terminals. Sign up for the points program and they'll send you coupons, too. Yes, the parking lot is a little tight. And you can't turn left onto 185th. So go out the back and stop at the Franz Bread Outlet or Don Chilitos or Stereo King or one of the other fabulous businesses nearby. It's pure Aloha, Baby! read more

It's an Ace hardware, which means it will always have that item you're looking for that you won't find in a Big Box hardware store. Getting into the parking lot is a bit dicey because of being on NW185h next to T.V. highway, just like the first review mentioned. I found a bucket boss and bucket seat that I was looking for. Long story that I don't want to go into of why I was looking for it but lets say this is the only place I found in the area that had them. The painting supplies section is pretty good. They truly have everything and a knowledgeable staff to help you find it and if you need it they will tell you how to use it. Hone depot is 4 miles closer but I needed 6 feet of hardware cloth and and some screen cut to length. No problem. Previous trip, same kind of experience. I needed five screws-no more. Done deal. Home Depot, I didn't need a 50 foot roll of hardware cloth. I only needed 3 feet. And I don't know what ever I would do with 100 wood screws. People, support your local hardware stores because when they are gone you too will have to figure out what to do with the 47 feet of hardware cloth that you never needed. read more

Then I asked for one other thing, he gave me a recommendation and he even went and grabbed it for me. I was able to rent the tool I needed since I was only going to use it once and it cost me a fraction of the price. This place has THE most knowledgeable employees I have EVER seen. They carry a wide range of items and inevitably save me a significant amount of money by allowing me to buy JUST what I need. The employees are clearly there to help & are more than willing and able to talk to me at my novice level. They know how homes in the area have been constructed and have solutions to those problems (ie the home you're working on has pipes coming out of the walls that are larger than the pipes that came with the vanity you're trying to connect). I needed a natural gas flex pipe for my gas stove. Went to Home Depot and they only had ones that were 36" or longer in stock. I needed a 24" one. Prices seemed to be about $1 an inch so I expected to pay about $24. Headed to Suburban Ace Hardware, and they had what I needed in stock. The 2 gentlemen in the back were very helpful in getting me the exact part I needed and verifying the thread was correct for my installation. Down side new home owner had to go on for a couple problems and different people there gave me wrong part, advise and had to keep returning stuff. For one job finally 3rd guy was all what the hell you doing? What the other 2 said. No you need this and do this. Well he was right but that was frustrating. Lowe's people give much better and on point advise every time. Here you need to know your stuff or can get led off a frustrating maze. This has happened on a couple of jobs not just once. read more

I'm a new homeowner. So, this place and Home Depot have seen me a lot lately as we change out cupboard knobs and touch up stain and replace old faucet aerators. Besides being conveniently near my home, what I like about this store is how much product knowledge the employees have. If I have a question, I can always rely on someone to show me not just where an item is located, but give me some tips on what stain works best for what I want, for example. I appreciate a little extra advice as I'm trying to do things for the first time. Occasionally I have to look for someone to ask but that's not a big deal. Also, points for keeping stir sticks at the cash register and always asking if I need one. Yes I have forgotten more than once, clearly I'm not the only one that does though. read more

What do you do when your dog decides to make himself a dog door out of your screen door? Take the whole thing to Ace of course. The staff was able to re screen the entire thing (they don't do patch repairs) and for a reasonable price. Also it only took about 3 days. I had difficulty actually getting into the parking lot as the store is situated on a busy corner with no left hand turn. This place is a bit of a trek and if you're not turning off TV HYW it's almost impossible to get into the parking lot. That said it's a labyrinth of tools, parts and home improvement goodies. I was in search of a shovel handle, something sturdy and curved at the end, no other hardware stores or Home depot had what I was looking for. It is an old favorite and this shovel is made of thick steel, well worth the effort to replace the broken handle. Suburban had a suitable replacement handle and even stocked a sturdy shovel (very expensive) should I have chosen to replace it. read more

So, I had this crazy idea to paint my tiny bedroom, which by the way, is the old utility room. I came up with this large list of paints I would need including all the supplies to go with it. I could have headed to the big box hardware stores, like HD, but instead I decided to stop in at Suburban Ace Hardware. Within 5 minutes I was greeted by the staff. The cashier could probably tell by the look on my face, I was a newbie. She called for a guy named Ben to come help me with paint. Up walked a nice young man, named Ben, who greeting me politely and professionally. I leaped into my story about how I wanted to incorporate 12 colors (you read that right) into my little room. Ben listened patiently as I rambled on and on. Without hesitation he jumped into mixing up the paints. He advised me on the best paints for my projects and helped me locate all the other tools. He even carried the paints out to my car! Wow! I can guarantee that you don't get that kind of service from the "Big Guys". I used to like this store, as it had most everything I needed without having to go into a cavernous store like The Home Depot, or Lowes. The manager has always been quite arrogant. I looked past that. Some of the help are just plain stupid. One has no idea how to sell hardware, or even where it is located in their store. So I just avoided that big oaf! The problem came when I inquired about having copies of my car keys made. I told the old dude with the earing that I needed keys made for my cadillac. He pulled out two generic keys that look exactly like the keys I had(they were copies) I told them that the trunk key is not right, as it will not activate the self-closing mechanism on the lock cover. He got smart and barked "you'll have to go to cadillac to get those keys then" He didn't even look for the right keys, he was just too lazy to find the right keyblank. I called to complain when I got home, the managers attitude was 'oh well'. I complained to ACE on their national website, twice they have said that they would do something, and twice they have not. I guess I will just have to drive to Home Depot or Lowes. read more

I went in for a simple broken key. The man who was making a new one learned from me that the rest of the key was still in my car lock. He searched for a special tool and went out and with some effort was able to extract the broken key end.
