Several weeks ago, my automatic generator stopped working and would no longer crank. After 400+ dollars in repair it was determined that the starter and battery cables were burned out. Turns out Suburban decided to disconnect my tanks 3 of then because I owed $105.00 dollars. The young lady that took my call indicated that the tanks belonged to the company. I said yes but the 3 hundred gallons of fuel is mine. She didn't care, I have no idea how I owed $105 because I have auto pay, but to get my fuel that is being held hostage I paid by credit card. I was then told it will take several days to remove the valve locks since they have paying customers to service first. So, when the fuel is gone so is Suburban. Can I give negative stars? If I could i would give them a negative ten. Sadly, I've been a customer for about ten years and always have issues. I keep running out of propane--even though they're supposed to monitor it to prevent that. Their billing process is a complete disaster. I'm supposed to be on a monthly billing plan, but all of a sudden, they changed it without notifying me. Then they deducted a grand from my account and blamed me for it. Every time I deal with them, it's a complete mess. And pray to GOD you never have to speak with Sue on the phone--she's by far the rudest, nastiest person you'll ever encounter. She talks to you like you're trash and stupid. I don't think she got the memo that she shouldn't treat customers like garbage. The entire situation with Suburban is an absolute joke. I highly recommend choosing another provider, as this company is completely incompetent. I'm not the only one who thinks so--the delivery drivers tell me horror stories every time they come to my house. read more

called 1/18/2025 for a refill ( less than 25%) in tank) and was told I was scheduled for 1/21/2025 to 1/28/2025. I was also told I should call for refills when it reached 35%. Never received the refill so I called last night at 5:30 pm to report. was told the local distributor would give me a call with a few hours. called 2/29/2025 snd talked to Kathy, local distributor. She the had received thousands of calls for refills, many with no gas, and did not have the time to communicate with existing customers about not able to meet their delivery dates. New delivery date us 1/31/2025 so will want and see. In the interim I will be checking out their competitors for customer service and price. read more

Switched to another company after this company tried to use scare tactics on me to force me to buy more propane... Yes, you read that right. Way overstepping normal boundaries. I was really confused why a utility company would try to do business like that and train their staff that way. Service companies work for the consumers. They were bullying me- their customer service agent called and said their driver was watching my house and saw another contracting company there making a delivery. That is a bold lie. We converted energy in the home and we're using less propane than the previous owner. They were using a tactic on me to elicit some type of confession if there were one. Poor poor way to manage accounts. Especially with a change in ownership and renovation... but the question is - you're watching my house? That's how we're starting this call? When I called their corporate office and told them what happened- they let me out of my contract so we could gladly move on. There are plenty of local companies you can consider that will provide good service. Avoid this company. read more

Terrible Company with awful customer service. They've abandoned 2 x 120 gallon tanks on our private property since November 2018, when we bought our home. I've been asking them to come pick up the full tanks ASAP but there's always an excuse or they just don't show up. I've had to contact the Fire Marshall for assistance in this matter. Maybe I'll have to post the tanks on craigslist to get them out of my yard! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, they are terrible and rude. I recommend using Economy Propane out of Baltimore, MD - they will provide service in Anne Arundel County. read more

This is the worst business I have ever dealt with. Either their employees are incredibly uninformed and totally unaware of absolutely anything related to this business or this business just lies constantly. It was difficult to get serviced in the winter when it's COLD but of course someone comes in April or May and fills the tank when you don't need heat. They charge an INCREDIBLE amount for their product. Literally call ANY other company and you will save multiple dollars a gallon. Regardless of use we would get bumped up to the most expensive tier almost every single time they came. If you like spending (wasting) your time on the phone with people that don't seem to understand anything about anything hire this company - because you'll need to call them multiple times a year and explain all the issues to people that do very much speak English, but don't seem to comprehend anything. It's not an accident that these reviews are all horrible and seem to have similar content. ** Forgot to add that the company we hired to replace them told us the tank was installed incorrectly- not to code. So that was probably UNSAFE as it was not the legally required distance from the fireplace but why would I be surprised by anything incompetent this company does?? read more

Over the Christmas holiday, we ran out of propane. When we called suburban to get more,( Wednesday morning) we were told that we were due for a delivery on Friday. After we told them that that wont due, we were told that they would try to get a truck out to us. Later that day we called again only to be told that they will send out a message out to a driver. The next day we called with a little more insistence and a truck finally showed up.. Now, I understand the whole "we don't have the staff" thing but, this has been problematic with them for years! This is the straw that is finally getting us to change to a different company. read more

Dealing with Suburban Propane has been nothing but a string of horrible experiences. - They increased my per gallon price rate by a whopping 40 cents without telling me (I found out the hard way) - Asked to negotiate the price back down and they said they'd call me on a specific day between certain hours. Guess what? They never called. - Kept scheduling propane deliveries weeks in advance, yet was left freezing in the winter month - The occasional racist driver/technician. One of them came into my house and saw that I was a war veteran, so he said "oh a war veteran, huh? Thank you for your service. I could never do what you did, man. If they sent me to Iraq, I'd kill every man, woman, child, and camel I saw. I'd get court martialed real fast." He must think he sounds so cool in his head. I'm going to call tomorrow and attempt to negotiate my rate back down. If I have no luck there, they can come pick up their tanks and consider my business gone. read more

I called to set up an appointment to have someone come out to my home to assess what size tank I would need and I was told that Sam was out back counting propane tanks and he would reach back out that same day. Several days later I called back and was told that Sam was off and would get back to me the next day. The next day I got a phone call from Sam saying he was in my driveway to do my assessment. I had gotten no phone call to set up the appointment so I was not home. I called the office and spoke with Kathy who was very confrontational on the phone when I expressed my frustration that the dude had shown up to my home unannounced and things seemed very disorganized she then corrected me saying that Sam was not a dude and he was a grown man. At that point I told them to not bother coming out because I don't want to do business with a company who is confrontational and this disorganized. read more

I have used them for about 8 years, service has never really been that good. I switched to their automatic fill and billing, though can never get service or refills. Can not get though on the phone and when I try to request a delivery online I get the following: "Delivery for this location is on our automatic fill plan for your convenience." This convenient service never happens and they put you on hold for ever if you try and call to request delivery. I'm done with this company. read more

There are many ways to fail with customer service, and they hit them all. Ever since we moved into this house it has been nothing but headaches. The people at suburban are just the most difficult and obnoxious customer service reps I have ran across. Arguing and flat out ling as to dates and availability. Just canceled everything with them. Quite possibly the WORST propane company out there. Price gouging and rudeness (Marcus and staff) are the norm.

This company does nothing but blackmail their customers. They tell you NOT to call in for a delivery until you are at 25%. In frigid weather you can run out of fuel before they bring you a delivery. They tell you that they absolutely cannot bring you any fuel because there are no delivery slots available. NONE. Sorry, there is NOTHING we can do. You waited too long to call in. (even though you called in EXACTLY when they told you to call in)P We have to take care of other people first. You are down to 3%? no, we still can't help you. Oh wait! IF you give us $90.00 up front, we can bring you a delivery today. That is the very definition of BLACKMAIL. Find another company, that's what I'm going to do. read more

I have had no problems with United Propane. They have always been polite so I am wondering if the other reviews are isolated instances?

We bought a new house. A few months later Suburban sent us an unsigned "Dear Homeowner" letter stating that because they accquired United Propane, that had serviced the prior homeowner at our address, we were somehow legally required to contract with Suburban. ( IAAL, and this is not only not true, but probably a deceptive business practice and an antitrust violation.) We told Suburban to pound sand and contracted with one of their competitors. Nice job Suburban, way to alienate your customers and lose business! read more

My builder had used them a few times and gave us their quote, but after our job they will find another company. They installed a tank in the ground for us and filled it. They failed the county inspection 3 times for little things and delayed occupancy permit which obviously causes a lot of issues. After almost 2 years, their work seems to be holding up fine so I'm increasing them to 2 stars. In Nov 2015 I spoke with a neighbor who has the same setup as us, but had switched to another company. Only a few days apart in quotes, their cost per gallon was a very high percentage less so we switched providers. read more

United Propane pricing is terrible and their service is just as bad. I have blindly asked for price comparisons of their competitors and found them more competitve from a blind call. If you are thinking about using United Propane, check the competition and ask about the annual lock in of pricing so that you do not be taken advantage of when the bill arrives. read more

NEGATIVE FIVE STARS IF I COULD!!!! WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. Started out with a competitive price in 2007 (to get their hooks into you) Then price gouged for years after that. They were charging me 73% more than the going rate of the competition. Finally let the tank run dry and called another company. Asked them to cancel our account and take a way their tank 9 months ago. Kept sending a bill showing a credit balance, and finally came and got their tank last month. Now they want a $99 close out fee!!! Simply the most outrageous, greedy, unresponsive, predatory company ever. We are now with Annapolis Propane. Run from this company! read more
