Don't patronize this establishment, because they might not be open when you go to pick up your food On 2/16, I was on lunch from work, and had ordered and paid for a sandwich online. I was informed that it would be ready by 3:00. At a little after 3, I swung by to pick up my sandwich, only to find the doors locked!!! I was told to come back in half an hour, when they would reopen. I was at work!!! I COULDN'T come back in half an hour!!! I know that the only employee who was working needed to take her lunch too, but all I wanted to do was pick up my @#$ +&%@ order, and I couldn't even do that!!! This place has its ups and downs. They are often out of a lot of items and sometimes closed at wired unexplainable times. However the customer service is great as the people always greet you upon arrival even when it is very very busy. For this trip I got a melt, however the original one I wanted they were not able to make, so I went for another melt. They were really accommodating and wanted to make me a happy customer. I ended up going to eat my sandwich and it was really tasty. The cheese was really thick and went perfectly with my meat choice. The bread was not soggy and the veggies were still very fresh when I got home. The quality of this sandwich was definitely a 5 out of 5. read more

Lady making my sandwich told me the concept of the customer being right is an old wives tale, I walked out and left. The lady had an attitude from the start. Can't stand the way Subway now puts spreads in the middle of sandwiches... it's called a spread for a reason, I don't want want dry ass bread on my sandwich with gobs of mayo and mustard piled in the middle. Been to this location a few times and it has been great especially with regards to service. The last time there where two younger folks. A young man and girl both with pink hair highlights. I have to say at first I was taken back a bit but to my surprise both are extremely outgoing and hilarious. Nice to see them enjoying their jobs and making for a great experience. I was in a lot of pain and had to use the drive thru, which turns out wasnt working. No one waved at me to move forward or anything through the window, so I drove up to see if they were even open. A young woman apologized for the headset not working, which I understood. She took my order in a very polite tone. As soon as she was done, she turned around and starting yelling about another coworker to another young woman in the back. She referred to this coworker as a c*nt, a b*tch and other foul names as if I weren't even there next to a wide open window. She practically threw my sandwich at me before I even paid and then she took my card to pay. She continued talking smack with her coworker REALLY loud as if I weren't there. When I left, i was relieved to be out of that hostile environment. I sat down to eat my wrap and it was literally just a rolled up pile of NOTHING I ordered. It was a crazy day. We walked in and the poor lady behind the counter was swarmed. Samantha had a huge online order as well as a customer in line ordering a lot of food. And on top of it all her helper called in sick less then 5 minutes before there shift. But with all that she manged to stay friendly and personal. We are visiting from Central California. Subway is one of our favorite fast food eatery. This Subway is by far the worst. We went through the drive through and sat behind another car for 10 minutes. When we pulled up to the drive through window we waited another 15 minutes. I finally went inside and was told their headsets were broken. I suggested they put a sign out and close the window. When we got inside, we were treated with indifference. I ordered a wrap and was told it couldn't be heated as it would start a fire in their oven. The attendants were rushed and the service was unsatisfactory. My granddaughter asked for light mayo and the girl who was making it squirted a ton of mayonnaise on her sandwich. The workers were talking to each other the entire tine. Very poor service. read more

I was disappointed on my last visit to the McKinleyville subway. Took forever before someone acknowledged us in the drive thru, then they got the order wrong. The clerk had no desire to be there, wasn't that great at taking our order. We order a double meat chopped chicken salad with shredded cheese, bacon and asked for additional veggies. Also got a roasted chicken with bacon, American cheese, lettuce and tomato not toasted, just the meat heated up. What we got was no cheese or bacon on the sub, meat on the sub was cold, bread had been toasted, which I dislike. The salad had little chicken, no shredded cheese and missing the bacon. WE used to eat here often, but after the last visit? We will not be returning. Way to go Subway McKinleyville. You've gone from good to horrible quickly. Been in store several times over the past 4 mths only to hear "the owner" complain about having to get security cameras for his "properties", since burglary has suddenly happening. I waited 30 minutes during a period where they are only allowing one customer in the store at all times (COVID rules). There was one other customer in front of me, so there wasn't long line. Yet still I waited 30 minutes for this guys sandwich to be made. After waiting, I went in and was told that I'd have to wait an extra fifteen to twenty minutes because they had 5 to go orders ahead of me.... When I explained I had patiently waited in line for thirty minutes and that waiting for five to go order sandwiches seemed a little ridiculous, the sole employee behind the counter snapped at me, so I left, worst customer service ever. read more

First off, I've eaten here multiple times over the years. It's very close to work and home. The service is spotty at best. They have a few nice employees and the rest come and go. Between here and Arcata locations it seems their managers have always been rude to people. The fake smile doesn't help. And I've literally heard their previous manager talk under her breath about the customer she was helping. We can hear you. All I wanted was a party sub, the 6ft one to be exact. My husband and I inquired about it about a week in advance and the nice young man behind the counter said it needs a 24hr notice. Which is exactly what their brochure says as well. So I walk in 3 days prior to my event because I wanted to be sure I could get what I need. Not only was the employee not familiar with the sandwich I wanted, but when she called her manager she was told it takes 3 days to make and her manager wouldn't be back until 2 days after I needed it. So they lost business because their manager doesn't know how to schedule properly and/or train their employees to know how to make something when they are gone. So I'm frustrated at this point and I drive to Arcata subway on 17th across from HSU. The young lady behind the counter also had no idea what I was talking about and when I mentioned that the brochure says 24hrs and I need this in 3 days she told me she's pretty sure it takes 3 days to prepare. She instructed me to come in the next day before noon to speak with their manager. When I finally talked to the manager she explained the process of all that goes on with making the sandwich. Helpful? Not really. So I could have had my order placed the day before and gotten what I wanted, but all these kids don't know what they're doing! I don't care if you have to pull frozen logs of bread out and thaw them, and then braid them and proof and bake and cool. I just wanted a really big sandwich! My son loves Subway and we have gone to quite a few of them in the Sacramento and Phoenix areas over the past four years. Tonight he asked for Subway so I took him to this one. Big mistake. First, he could only have a cookie with his kid's meal (Subway promoting diabetes? Way to go!) or an apple (which they didn't have) but couldn't have chips. The employee made a long speech about how her manager has authority to do that but she doesn't. Then she told us the only option for the drink that went with the kids meal was milk. I asked for a different option and she said he could have the orange juice. However, when she rang us up, it was almost $2 more than the kid's meal price, which is already pretty pricey at almost $5. I asked whether there was a juice box available, and she said no, "We don't carry those anymore." I asked if he could have a small soda. "No, I don't have authority to do that either. But I can give you the milk and you can just take it!" I said no, and we left without the food, and my kid was upset for a little while. Really, Subway? When 40 million people in the US are lactose intolerant and many others are allergic, you're not willing to accommodate a child's need to avoid explosive diarrhea? 75% of American Indians, Jewish people, and African Americans are lactose intolerant and 90% of Asians are. My son is American Indian. Maybe your corporate office and this franchise owner should think about how reducing options with kids' meals reduces the ability of these groups to be able to eat there and not be cheated or suffer adverse health consequences. I sure hope that's not the intent. Very disappointed in this Subway and do not recommend anyone go anywhere near it. We sure won't ever feel welcome there. read more

I disagree with Roger W. He said in his review that the sandwiches here are as good as, if not better than, most other subways but I have lived in mckinleyville for a year and I have tried this subway multiple times and they are terrible. The customer service is mediocre or worse every time, but I could overlook that if they made a decent sandwich, but they all insist on doing the worst thing that totally ruins the sandwich for me. All the employees put your meat and cheese on one side of the bread, then put your veggies on the other side of the bread then they put your mayonnaise or whatever sauce in between. That means that when you eat your sandwich the bread is dry and the meat and veggies just kind of squirt mayo at you randomly. It's disgusting. This is the only subway that I've been to that has done this. They are also the only location I've been to that doesn't offer their egg throughout the day to be put on other non-breakfast sandwiches. read more

Zero stars! I just got back from Subway in Mckinleyville and the guy with the glasses had a terrible attitude. I specifically asked for the chicken teriyaki sandwich twice and asked him again at the register and he got mad told me I should've told him before it reached this point. He asked me if I wanted the chicken bacon or if I wanted a new sandwich remade. For the third time, I asked for the teriyaki sandwich and he made it obvious how unhappy he was by putting it on the wrong bread and I wound up with the skimpiest sandwich I ever had!
