    Sandwich
    Grace R.

I understand that this is a Subway, and if you're eating at Subway the bar is already pretty low. But this is bad. They barely take the time to cut the sandwich and basically crushed it when wrapping it. Seriously. How hard is it to make a sandwich? Couldn't be more disappointing. There's a Jimmy Johns across the street - save your money and go there instead.

Doing their job because they forgot to put on 3 things to my sandwich... pickles, extra Mayo, and lettuce. I want a refund...

Subway does not always allow you to eat fresh. This is one example of that.

I don't know what it's like when it's busy because on the day we arrived, the entire area was a ghost town. Not even sleepy - no cars on the road and this cafe was even still opening. Walk in, order and find a seat. Not a lot of seating but there's both indoors and out. We chose to sit indoors as it was a little warm and I didn't want to be out under the sun. See pics of the food. Wanted salad. I tend to always want salad. Went with the Springfield. Crisp and fresh - really enjoyed the toppings and dressing. Harmony. That's how I'd describe this salad. I'd definitely have it again. Grabbed the Hot Springs. Wanted a cold sandwich. Wanted an Italian. Closest I could find and the vinaigrette was even on the side so I could add as much or as little as I wanted. I remember enjoying this sandwich so much I considered grabbing a second for the road. However, we're traveling and gotta try other foods and places. This would be one place I'd go back to if or when I find myself back in Rapid City. This cafe is connected to the brewery (Hay Camp Brewing). In fact, that's where the restrooms are if you need it.

I really wanted to like this place more, I really, really did. Came here on the last day of our…read moretrip exploring the trifecta of National Parks. After being inundated with burgers, I felt like something a little lighter/healthier was in order. AMBIANCE - just off the main strip of downtown Rapid City you'll find this cafe. Cafe is spacious and clean, and is connected to a brewery where, if you're inclined to do so, they will bring your food over to you while you sit there. The Brewery has board games you can play at your table and a variety of pinball machines. SERVICE - service was....ok. I was asking the guy about one of the toppings on the sandwich and he looked at me like I was an alien. Maybe it was his first day? Not sure. He was nice, but not as knowledgeable as you might like for someone working the register. MENU - they had a pretty good mix of sandwiches (hot and cold), and also had a few sides. I also saw they had some homemade lemonades and such, which I was tempted to try, but did not end up trying instead. FOOD - my wife and mother got the badlands sandwich which had roasted sirloin mushrooms, swiss and and side of horeradish mayo. My mom and I both did the rapid city which kind of seemed like a philly cheesesteak sandwich (grilled beef, onions, peppers, jalapenos, smoked gouda with a lime cilantro), while my kids rocked the pastrami. The sandwiches were a pretty good size (at almost $20 a piece, they better be). My kids thought the pastrami was good and after days of burgers, it was a nice change up. My wife liked her sandwich, which was mostly carried by the horseradish mayo. My mom and I thought our sandwiches were just...ok. The meat needed salt, and the lime cilantro was not very flavorful. I ended up stealing some of my wife's horseradish mayo which helped, but just a bit. OVERALL - good not great. Wish the meat was a little more flavorful and the food came out a bit quicker (there was only one order ahead of us and it took a good 20-30 minutes to get our food). Not sure I'd come back. Everything is fresh and delicious (which makes a difference when you're getting gluten-free baked goods which tend to go stale fast). When we were there, they had just taken Honey-white gluten-free loaves out of the oven and it made this gluten-sensitive girl cry, it was THAT GOOD! It was like REAL bread like I used to eat before the allergies happened! I was so excited, I bought an embarrassing amount of bread and lemon cake and took it to our reunion and no one knew it was gluten-free! Also, it's worth noting that if you have other allergies (dairy/nuts/etc.), the staff is knowledgeable and will steer you right to what you can eat. Seriously, if you are gf & dairy-free, this is where you want to go to get fresh bread products! We were directed here by someone at Breadroot (also an amazing place for those with special dietary needs), and we are so grateful. We were surprised that Nanna's was "at the mall," but it was easy to find and so worth the stop! Worth noting: Nanna's is currently closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but get in there on Wednesdays-Sundays.

I think this must be a family owned place, because at some point, I saw a 13 year old (ish) boy clearing tables and handing out candy at the tables. We were sitting for quite a while before anyone noticed us and brought menus. But once we did get the attention of our waitress, she was very nice. There's a kids menu with the typical offerings. They mostly have the standard beers and a handful of local offerings. I had the hazy pineapple beer, and it was okay. My husband tried a local IPA, and he liked it. I had the fried shrimp and the housemade potato chips. They make their own chips (good, although unevenly salted) and they come with a delicious french onion dip, just like the stuff I remember from childhood. My husband and I couldn't get enough. The menu is otherwise pretty burger-based, but that's fine for a setting like this. They have a pool table that takes quarters. That kept the kids occupied while the adults were able to watch some of the March Madness fun.
