My family and I recently gathered to celebrate my dad's and brother's birthdays, and overall, it was a nice experience. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, a good setting for a family celebration. The service was really good. Our team was attentive and made sure we were taken care of throughout the meal. They brought out complimentary hushpuppies as an appetizer, and those were definitely a highlight... warm, fresh, and flavorful. As for the food, it was overall okay. I ordered the grilled shrimp with a loaded baked potato and onion rings, and my meal was pretty tasty. Everything was cooked well and satisfying. Several family members ordered the catfish. They loved the texture, it was cooked nicely, but mentioned that it could have used more seasoning or flavor. Another person at the table ordered the seafood fondue dip and said it was delicious. I've been going to this restaurant as a child but the one near me closed due to construction of the highway... but once I found out that this is the original location and it's still open I had to go. We tried a few dishes and all were solid and the servers are nice and it has a nice rustic vibe. We got the fried crawfish with crawfish etouffee and the catfish Cozumel. Highly recommend this place! Came here for lunch and it did not disappoint. The food is very tasty. The Lunch specials are great portion sizes. I had the catfish and shrimp plate. The batter on the fish was perfection. The catfish did not have that fishy, muddy taste. Very fresh and so good! The boudin balls are 10/10! Highly recommend. The service was amazing. Our server was friendly and paid attention to the little things throughout our lunch. The owner also stopped by our table to chat with us and I felt that was very nice of him. Another good meal at Sudie's! I went for the combo with fried shrimp, fried catfish with mac n cheese and onion rings on the side and it was good and plenty. It also comes with hush puppies when you sit down. I see some complain about the lack of seasoning, and maybe they are comparing this place to a Cajun type of joint, but I don't think that what Sudie's is trying to be. I always consider Sudie's as an old fashion fry joint that has added some lighter fare to the menu over the years to stay consistent with the times. Awesome place!! From the service to the food, we all loved it. The southern hospitality is here. The catfish was nicely crisp and tender at the same time. I've been to Sudie's less than a handful of times even though I've lived in this area all but 3 years of my life, and I always remember it being there. Every time I've gone has been because my step-mom wants crawfish... not being much of a crawfish eater myself, I always get something else. I love seafood (including crawfish, I just don't have the patience to eat it lol) and I'm the person that looks for some sort of seafood dish pretty much anywhere I go to eat. So a seafood restaurant is right up my alley. HOWEVER... there's a reason I don't regularly go to Sudie's, and it's because I feel that pretty much anywhere else is better. I got really excited about the stuffed pistolettes and decided to get one. Then I was immediately let down. Maybe it's because I lived in Louisiana for 3 years and enjoyed delicious stuffed pistolettes while I was there, or maybe these just really aren't good... I don't know. Most of my 12 family members - including me - were let down by their food that particular time. This past time I went, I got coconut shrimp, and I liked it. I was actually pleased to have some leftovers to bring home for later. I don't know if it's a certain cook that is just not great, or if they just have off days every time I'm there, but they seem to always have customers, so I guess people like coming here. I don't think the restaurant is particularly dirty, but it feels dirty. Maybe it's because it's outdated, but I don't like it. I also don't like ramps leading up to the front door. They're steep, narrow, and tilted in a way that makes you feel like you're going to fall down when you're walking in the dark. Picture Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean running after having a few drinks... that's what it feels like walking down these ramps in the dark. TL;DR - The food is not fantastic, but it is edible. I've had better seafood at a Mexican restaurant. The coconut shrimp is the best thing I've tried from here. Don't get a stuffed pistolette unless you want to try one and they are your ONLY option... but even then, I don't recommend it. They have death ramps out front. read more

Went here tonight, heard from a friend that they serve only fresh catfish, and my wife really loves fresh catfish. I ordered the two piece meal with two sides, the catfish was excellent, lightly coated, very flaky, yes, the catfish was fresh, not frozen, you can tell. I had the pinto beans, very tasty! I also had the mac and cheese, very creamy! My wife had the combo plate with Catfish and Shrimp, way too much food..she had to bring some home. Her sides were Onion Rings, i think that they hand cut them and batter them the themselves, very good. She also had the coleslaw, again homemade, very tasty... We did order dessert, but had to bring them home, banana pudding and blackberry cobbler, both very good and not store bought.. Glad I heard about this place. Amazing catfish! Food: A Catfish is amazing. So fresh, great lightly breaded, and seasoning is spot on. I usually add a spritz of lemon and some Tabasco. Yum! Ok, let's start with the service which was great! They give you a large basket of the best hush puppies I have ever had, they are moist and soft in the inside and crunchy on the outside! As far as family dinning goes it's a place you can take your family but only if you don't want them to taste there food, I ordered the lunch special and the fish was not seasoned I mean to the point of being bland, come to find out they don't season there cornmeal and if you want any other type of seasoning say Cajun you have to ask which I didn't see on the menu nor did the waitress ask if there was this option so basically anything that they fry is seasoned only with unseasoned cornmeal. The hush puppies they service as complimentary where seasoned real well, the onion rings I ordered same way, and when my wife asked for a kids menu because she had surgery the only recommendation she gave was Al carte so they nickel and dime you to buy individual side no other option. So all in all it was a bust for me so if like your seafood bland and unseasoned then this is the place for you read more

I haven't been to Sudie's in several years. So when my wife and I made the 45 minute trip it was with high expectations. The building looked the same and the parking lot full of bumps and holes were the same. Other than the need to wash your hands with soap and water BEFORE coming inside, the food was just as good as remembered. My wife had catfish dinner with coleslaw and fries. I had the catfish dinner with pinto beans and onion rings. I tossed in an order of fried mushrooms to sample as many of the old items as possible on this rare visit. The catfish was hot, crispy on outside with a light cornmeal coating and soft and delicious inside. No fishy taste or unreasonably oily. The sides were tasty and consistent. I ordered the Saturday "all you can eat" fried shrimp. The first serving came with two sides and 8 shrimp, every serving after that, they only brought 4 shrimp. Additionally, the "spicy" was not spicy at all and only seasoning all in the batter. My daughter and I both got the gumbo and there was nothing Cajun about it. My sides were bland. I stopped by Sudie's Catfish House for dinner on a Tuesday. Sudie's has a large parking lot so that shouldn't be an issue. Once you walk into this homey restaurant, there's a sit-down restaurant area on the left and a bar area on the right. We sat at a booth in the restaurant area. I'm always a fan of some Cajun cooking and Sudie's didn't disappoint. Given the name of the restaurant, I went with the lemon pepper catfish. I love lemon pepper and I prefer grilled fish so I couldn't pass it up. The meal comes with your choice of two sides. I went with the fries and mac and cheese. This is a generous portion y'all. Three fillets of catfish plus your sides means you're probably going to take some of it to-go. They also hooked us up with some complimentary hushpuppies to start which was nice. Manager was so rude and just kept telling me to take it up with Door Dash if I wanted a refund. I told her that I didn't ask for a refund. She said no one is new and even if I brought it to them she would not replace an order through Door Dash. Tried this place for the first time. It was ok. The hush puppies were really good. My husband had the fish and he said it was not great. The pieces were very thin. Mashed potatoes were good. Sudies is a Texas Carfish Restaurant, that's why they've been in business this long! They prepare seafood the Texas way. They're not a Cajun Seafood Restaurant. They have a variety of ways they prepare seafood. I suggest the customer experience a few. Parking is adequate, and the service is good. My one complaint is they put tables too close together, it can be difficult to maneuver around for the wait staff and especially for some senior citizens. read more
