Food was delicious and service was great! Inside was comfortable. Definitely will go back.

I went to Chinatown and came across this restaurant and decided to try their food. We ordered Miso Ramen and Yaki Soba. Miso Ramen is good but too salty and the Yaki soba lacks taste to it.

I didn't realize Suehiro had another mini location! Came here on a Tuesday evening around 8PM for dinner and there were only 1-2 other parties dining at that time. It is a relatively small location and there are no public restrooms, so just some things to keep in mind. I ordered the pork katsu don as it comes with a miso soup. The soup came out pretty quickly and the taste was perfectly salty. As for the katsu don, I found the pork to be rather tough. One of my friends ordered the karaage don, which looked a little more tender, so I'd maybe consider that if I were to return. I'd also come during lunch as they have pretty enticing deals during lunch hours! Overall, the service was kind and efficient, but I don't think I'll be itching to come back unless I'm in the area.

    Cabbage salad

Cabbage salad - dressing is mayo heavy, but sesame flavored. Could useore sesame flavor, really. This salad is big. Enough to share for sure, even for several people, or to eat alone as your meal. It's not a small side salad. Good deal for the price. Chicken Karaage - also a huge portion. Same sauce as the salad dressing served on the side. Served piping hot, so very freshly fried. Very juicy with good tasting breading. Would definitely order this again. Unagi don - big pieces of nicely cooked soft unagi. Well cooked rice. Nice reel sauce. Served in a traditional box. Expensive, but they do this well. Tonkatsu ramen - not my favorite chashu. The pork broth was nice, the noodles had some density to them, which was nice. These aren't the super thin kind. All kinda of toppings you can add. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. There gave great recommendations and we're really kind throughout. Out food was served as it was prepared, and came out very fresh. This place is small indeed with only a handful of tables and some bar seating by the windows. Lots of to-go business. We were here at 10pm on a Friday night and seated immediately. Music is soft background, classic rock on the day we came. It's overall pretty chill in here - nicely quiet. Good AC and nice soft yellow lighting that it's still easy to see by. They do NOT have a restroom, even for customers, and they are careful to tell you this beforehand. Plan accordingly.

We did street parking with paid meter. The inside is small with minimal seating. The food took a long time to arrive, but I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. The ramen was okay to me...the noodles were a bit hard and the broth was a bit salty. Overall, it was okay, not the best ramen in my opinion, but maybe I'll try something else next time. Recommendation(s): - None Service: 5/5 Tip(s): - No restrooms available - Street parking

    GYOZA (8 PIECES)

Comforting food! Had the salmon chazuke, which had a mild and light flavor to my taste, the yakisoba and the beef don, which were both flavorful and the beef was surprisingly soft too. Gyoza was good and you can do half and half which was nice. I preferred the vegetable ones a bit more but both had nice flavor and the dough had good texture. I'd say the prices were fair too.

We stopped by here really quick after a detour off of union station. Walkable but still 10+ min. Pretty small place but they have a nice atmosphere, staff were nice. Lots of options. We could've gone with a curry one but they said the are known for the tonkotsu so we went with that for a quick soup noodle. Broth is on the lighter side in my opinion, which could be good or bad. I thought it wasn't bad but nothing too special or stands out. The takoyaki was however very good.

Everything at Suehiro Mini is delish!!! From the ramen to the udon and rice dishes nothing disappoints as it's all so fresh and flavorful!!! I personally am obsessed with their ramen and chasu don. Their protein is high quality and the portions are generous. The chasu is so meaty and fatty definitely the best chasu I've had anywhere. As for dessert I always get their black sesame Mont Blanc. The contrast in textures and the fresh berries make the cake so good. I know I'll be a loyal customer to Suehiro Mini for years to come!!!!

This is one of the few places that stays open late but just a note that there is no restroom access at the moment. I always ask the wait staff what is the most popular dish on the menu and at this place it was the Tonkotsu ramen bowl. We received our food in less than ten minutes and it was so tasty and very filling. The waitress was very nice and she kept filling up our glass of water.

Good traditional japanese food, friendly service, cute location. Negative is $5 to park in the shopping center they are in. Will get to go from now on.

We came here on a random Wednesday night. Our regular spot at Olvera Street closed early. An easy walk from Olvera street it took us 6 minutes to get here. Arrived to an empty restaurant. Dining area is clean with a tv screen showing scenes from Tokyo. Staff was busy unpacking boxes so we asked if we were able to dine in. Staff could have been friendlier. Katsu curry was good. Nothing spectacular or different from any other Japanese restaurant. Tonkatsu was very good with all the toppings but only had 2 slices of pork. We would probably come back if we're in the area.

Nothing can compare to the Little Tokyo location that is no more. DTLA Suehiro is nice but a very different, elevated experience. Suehiro Mini has a homey feel and lower prices plus the lunch specials that more resembles our lost restaurant. There are very few seats/tables. Many of the orders are pick-up or to-go. I went late at night and was able to be seated. It's a great spot for comfort dishes if you're passing through or in the area. I was glad to get the Hayashi Rice. The flavor is spot on!

Is Suehiro "Mini" closing also or just the Little Tokyo restaurant?

When I last visited i heard that there is going to be sushi soon, so I was wondering if there is sushi now?

We are now serving sushi rolls. California, salmon skin, spicy tuna, cucumber, tempura, avocado, unagi and vegetable rolls.

Do they have gluten-free noodles and broths?

Sorry, we don’t. The only options for our noodles and soup is our vegan friendly ramen.

There was a gentleman helping us with our order and he was very friendly. The katsu I ordered was delicious. My son opted for the vegetarian route and his protein was a mushroom. I actually liked everything we got, but the boy was disappointed with the mushroom. He was not a fan of the slightly sweet taste. My favorite item was definitely the strawberry creme sandwich. The sandwich was not overly sweet, but it was still memorable. I would love to come back to have it again. The egg sando was a little bit of a let down for me, my son thought the same. It's actually surprising that we were not fans because both of us LOVE eggs. Definitely think you need to check this place out because that strawberry sandwich is delicious.

Yesterday evening, June 12th, my mom and I went to Suehiro DTLA Cafe for dinner…read more I had visited this restaurant a very long time ago when it was located in Little Tokyo. Recently, it came back to mind, so I looked it up and found out that the Little Tokyo location had permanently closed. After doing a little more research, I discovered that they had relocated to DTLA. I had been craving a Hamburg steak lately, which was one of the main reasons I decided to visit. My mom ordered the Sukiyaki, and I ordered the Hamburg steak. We shared both dishes, and unfortunately, the Sukiyaki was unbelievably salty. It tasted as if someone had poured an entire bottle of soy sauce into it. Even when eaten together with the rice that came with it, it was still overwhelmingly salty. The beef was also very tough, which made the dish even more disappointing. As for the Hamburg steak, the portion size was extremely small. On the positive side, it came with a generous serving of rice, a salad, and miso soup. The Hamburg steak itself tasted good, but it was severely overcooked and heavily charred, which was a huge disappointment. Until recently, I wasn't particularly focused on my health, but both of my parents have been dealing with health issues, and seeing that has made me much more health-conscious. I've been trying to avoid burnt foods and charred meats whenever possible. I've also cut out ham, sausages, sugary juices, and sodas. Because of that, I was especially disappointed to see my Hamburg steak burned so badly that parts of it were almost black. The restroom required walking down a very long flight of stairs. While it was spacious and clean, it had a somewhat eerie atmosphere, probably because it was located in the basement. There were only stairs and no obvious alternative access, which made me wonder how customers with disabilities would be able to reach the restroom. The service was very friendly and welcoming. However, between the disappointing food, the inconvenient parking situation (street parking only--fortunately, thanks to my usual incredible parking luck, I managed to find the one available parking space), and the difficulty of accessing the restroom, I don't think I'll be returning. Overall, I was especially disappointed by the food, and for that reason, I probably won't be visiting again. But, I gave the tip 20%. Cuz, the service was friendly.

However, the pork cutlet isn't wasn't the best cutlet I've had. I would put it in the middle range of tonkatsus out there. While good, it didn't have the crisp flakiness you'd find in a specialty restaurant that specializes in just tonkatsu. However, it is still good. Next up was the omelette with gravy with fried rice that had both shrimp and pork. I feel the egg of the omelette was well made. It had that texture and consistency you would really want from an omelette of that nature. The pork and shrimp fried rice tasted a little light in the seasoning and flavor, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The gravy was also lighter than a heavy gravy as well. When the food came out, I thought the meal would be deeply heavy due to the quantity and the gravy, but it still felt a bit light and manageable, which was kind of outside of my expectations, so that was pretty interesting. I do like the chicken soup this comes with. It has a nice flavorful broth where you could tell it was made well too. The service here is pretty good and attentive. The ambiance is nice but pretty busy. Also, if you come on the weekend, expect to wait a bit because a lot of people do want to eat here and the line can become a bit backed up.

The bowl arrived covered with a see-through lid to hold in the steam -- lifting it off as the steam cleared was a small but memorable touch, like a magic trick. A nice bit of theater. The noodles are stellar. Thick, chewy, and hard to find in the US -- not what you'd expect from a vegan bowl, but they absolutely nailed it. Possibly my favorite noodle of the year. The broth, however, came out lukewarm. It's a fixable mistake, but it meaningfully hurt the experience. True to the warning, it's sour -- yuzu-forward with a heavy citrus presence. It's also thicker and more viscous than a typical broth, which isn't quite right texturally, but the flavor is well above average for a vegan dish. The richest vegan broth I've had -- the tonkotsu of veganism. The toppings are an interesting collection, and they do a lot of work to keep the bowl from feeling sparse. The ginger tofu crumble almost reads as a breakfast ingredient -- good, but it makes you miss meat. The pan-fried dumplings are the standout: I bit into one and let the broth fill the pocket. A new experience, and a smart way to add substance without meat. The crispy onion gets lost in the mix, and the alfalfa sprouts fit the vibe without contributing much flavor. The presentation and commitment to bold flavors within a meatless framework are real strengths. The inventiveness reminds me of Mensho -- a genuine willingness to be different. With a properly hot, slightly thinner broth this could have been a 10. As it stands, 9/10. Innovative, delicious, and the noodles alone are worth the trip. That said -- even by LA standards -- $43.95 for a bowl and a four-piece roll is genuinely painful. Sides: Skip the spicy miso avocado rolls. The rice is dense and compacted, and the whole thing is overdressed in sauce, making it messy and unpleasant to eat. Lesson learned. 9/10

The restaurant is casual and has some unique decor. You order and pay at the counter, and bus your own table. Note - According to the menu, my food cost $32.50, but on my receipt, the base price of the food was listed as $36-something. I'm not sure if the base price included taxes and/or some mysterious surcharges.
