First time visiting and I'm from the phoenix area. I went and ordered my fish and I was not disappointed. It came second to knock kneed to me. The fish & fries were hot and fried to order. It's a little hole in the wall place, if you can look beyond the looks I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Being a Friday during Lent, our office decided - and was excited - to order from Sue's Fish & Chips. Upon picking up the order, we quickly learned the online menu prices were extremely outdated and for 6 orders, the tab came out to OVER ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS!! When this was brought to the cashier's attention, she refused to honor the posted prices. In addition, we asked for extra sauce (which is very bland and not cocktail sauce at all). Upon arrival back at the office, we quickly realized they didn't place the extra sauce in the bag. The shrimp is just okay - nothing exciting and the fish tastes only like flour - no favor at all - not even salt and the crust soggy. We will NEVER go back there, and I will NEVER recommend that place to anyone. You can bet your bottom dollar we will be ordering from Lucky Wishbone next Friday. read more

The food here is great! Always has been. Grew up eating here regularly. Although, the fish was changed recently, it's still good. The place is small and that's ok. No restroom has never really been a problem, but probably annoying to first-timers. The parking can be a little hairy at times, but there's also street parking, which is easier to deal with. The employees here are always decent, but never as friendly & welcoming as they probably could be. Overall, this hole-in-the-wall's food is well worth overlooking its' shortcomings. I live in Plano Texas and I'll drive all the way to Los Angeles but I make a pitstop in Tucson to eat at Sue's fish and chips if it's closed I rent a hotel because I have to have their fish sandwich and the shrimp everything everything is great anybody that passes through Tucson or if you live there, try it! We were looking for a good fish and chips place to eat at tonight, and boy did we find one. The food here was simply delicious. The fish costing is thin, crunchy, and delicious. I was super excited to go here for Fish & Chips after hearing that this is The Place to go in Tucson. SO disappointing!! 2 piece fish & chips for $7.25 (drink not included). The fish and french fries were super hot but really bland tasting. They do serve a type of cocktail sauce but it didn't help much. I usually like to squeeze lemon juice on my fish & chips but they only served packets of generic, gross tasting imitation lemon juice. I was really surprised that they didn't have fresh lemons available. (Even Mexican food places have a fresh bar with lemons, limes, etc). I was really looking forward to this place and always want to support Local but no way on this one. GO TO Sue's! Our family has been eating at Sue's for years. One of two places I have to eat at when I go back to Tucson. The other is Pat's for the chili cheese dogs and fries. I received my food and it was burnt, the employee told me to call the manager at 9 next business day. I called about a week later because of the fact I go to school when I was to call. The manager Tammy then proceeded to say do you have the food so we can exchange it. Mind you that was a week ago then she said I can give you two #1 combos but not the family meal you ordered. So I said ok, she said hold on threw the phone and then came back and said there is a sign on the door and it says to check your food before you leave. I then said if it is going to hurt the company that much too replace a burnt meal, then I don't need it. Mind you we go to Sue's all the time. It's been over 30 years since I had been here so I wasnt sure what to expect. The staff was wonderfully friendly and the smells were amazing. Sadly the breading for the fish and shrimp was bland. Being part British I expected cod or a similar meaty fish and a malt vinegar. I'm pretty sure its talapia and the cocktail sauce was a chile flavored. If you do go I reccomend the hushpuppies and clams. read more

I have grown up with Sue's as it been a family favorite!! I look forward to it every time I'm in town!!! The fish and chips either the special secret hot sauce are perfectly paired!! However, my last visit was a bit disappointing for 2 reasons - 1 the batter appears to have changed (very crumbly) - has it changed? If so I prefer the original batter used for years! 2 the hot sauce is not so hot :( tasted like tomato sauce. I hope this was just a one off fluke but if not, I nor my family and friends will patronize any more :( read more

Average---unfortunately only place on this side of town for fried fish for take out. 85 cents cents for a small extra cocktail sauce is a rip off. There is more battered breading than there is fish meat. Reminds me of Lous fish n chips in Phoenix, but they are less expensive. Not impressed with the finished product. The best item to order at Sues is, you guessed it, the fish. Because you really should order it. There are many options at Sues. But the name of the place should be the reason you come by. One thing Sues is not: healthy. This is battered fried fish. And shrimp, and steak fingers. And it's good. Sues has been around a LONG time and has a great reputation for excellent hearty meals at reasonable prices. The fries aren't great- average and very salty, but the dipping sauces are fine. I recommend getting it to go, since Sues isn't exactly a fine diner. The food comes out fresh and piping hot. There are combo deals you can get to try other items on the menu, including I believe oyster. read more

I have driven by this place dozens of times without having a chance to check it out, but today I did. First impressions are that it's small, clean, and quaint. Usually this means killer food that I have been missing out on. The food was prepared/fried perfectly. The batter on the shrimp was really thick, but had an odd texture, the batter on the scallops(fried scallops?) was good and they were tender and had a fresh flavor, and the fish had an unique crumb breading, but was cooked perfectly - light and flaky. Fries were like run-of-the-mill crinkle cuts - no where near as good as Eegees. They served the meal with tarter sauce, and another sauce that I just couldn't tell if it was just ketchup or a very weak cocktail sauce. Not a bad meal, but nothing to rave about or crave a return. This just makes me wish Lucky Wishbone does seafood too! read more

We went yesterday--and wow, what a great but odd surprise. First, it's in a part of town I wouldn't have imagined I'd find fish and chips anywhere near...but whatever, I'll take it no matter the location. Second, it's a strange little spot...but busy and obviously well established. Third, and most importantly, the food was good--really very good! I had a sampler--2 fish, 2 shrimp, 2 oysters. Husband has the small fish. Both come with fries (and you can ask for the fries to be well-done, which is always a good idea). And sauce--yummy sauce. I loved the shrimp and oysters, and liked the fish, and loved the fries. I could likely swim in the sauce...yes, that's how good it was. I'd like to try the scallops. The fish is paper thin and tasteless, the shrimp ditto. The chicken was the only thing barely edible. The fries were wilted and soft. The cocktail sauce had no horseradish. We have lived on every side of town except the southside, but we always make it a priority to make our way back to Sue's! Sue's is a South Tucson tradition I've only managed to go to one time. It's a tiny place with about three tables and you order at the counter. The menu's fairly large and a little overwhelming. We had fried fish, shrimp, French fries, and drinks. For three people it came to over $45, so a little pricey. But the shrimp were huge and there were piles of fries. The fries were crinkle cut, which we don't usually like, but these were very good. As others have said, the batter is not well-seasoned, so a little bland, but the cocktail sauce that came with the orders was very good and almost as hot as my homemade. We got our orders to go and the food was made fast and packaged very nicely. We'll probably come here again to try some of their other menu items. As we were leaving I saw they have five hush puppies for $1.50, so definitely interested. read more

Sue's is a Tucson staple and we decided to stop by while in town. Ordered the 10 pc family meal and I was very disappointed. The fish was breaded nicely but immediately in the car I noticed a strong fishy smell. Fried fish should NOT smell that fishy. Had a couple bites and tossed the rest. Waste of $30. read more

I'm disappointed. And I'm sad about that. I ate at Sues one time when I was a kid and loved it! My brother in law goes there every time he's in town and the girl behind the counter was super sweet and friendly. When I walked out of the building with my fish and shrimp combo and piece of garlic toast in my brown paper bag I couldn't even wait to get out of the parking lot before digging into the bag to grab a piece of the fish and take a bite out of it. Then nothing, just empty dreams and an empty whole in my heart for Long Johns Silvers. I really should have paid more attention to them when they were around, spent more time with them, told them how much I loved them. Now they're gone and I'm trying to fill the emptiness in my stomach with fish that looks pretty but lacks the flavor that I got with LJS's. While the fish is nice and tender and flakey the corn meal breading is relatively tasteless and like another reviewer said the fish and the shrimp taste the same. Which stands to reason since it's the same breading on both. The French fries are very basic. Kind of like a frozen Ore Ida crinkle cut kind. On my visit nothing was overly salty or greasy although that may have added some flavor. On a plus note the cocktail sauce was good and I really liked the tarter sauce and when the fish was dipped in it it gave it what it needed. Unfortunately, it took the whole soufflé cup for the one piece and the additional cup of sauce that I paid an extra 80 cents for didn't make its way into the bag so piece number two was eaten plain by my coworker who said the fish itself was good but the breading tasted like they forgot to add any seasonings at all. Not even salt. Due to the short supply of fish joints in this town I will probably try it again and hope that this batch was a fluke that the cook had forgotten to season, because like I said I really want to like this place. If you think this is good fish and chips, you have never eaten anything but the frozen fish and fries from the local grocery store. Funnily enough, that's what you get here. Frozen crinkle-cut fries, cheap frozen fish coated in Panko. Utensils? Ask for some, they give you a spork. I admit, I'm spoiled, having eaten fish and chips in England and various pubs in Canada. But this stuff is really pathetic. The only thing they have going for them is the availability of malt vinegar. Yes it is old and yes it is pricey but I grew up eating here and I can honestly say it's one of my personal favorites in Tucson. It is the kind of place either you love it or you hate it, I love it. I actually don't know of any place in Tucson you can get fish and chips or shrimp since ol' Long John Silver shutdown. The fish is flaky and the shrimp is delicious a bit crispy and also pretty good. Went here for hubby cuz he loves himself some fish n chips, and fellow yelpers seemed to really like it. I don't eat any seafood so it was nothing but a huge sacrificial act on my part! ;) To sum it up: Lousy. Icky. Nasty and dirty. Rude gal behind the counter. Hubby said it was just terrible! I had a corn dog (not many non-seafood things to pick from, but what the heck!) but the hot dog was cool inside....I just threw it away. I'll start off by saying I'm a tried and true LJS fan. That being said, I went in with high hopes. The service was super friendly, I will say that. The fish? Worst I've ever had. So bad, I dumped my entire lunch in the trash and went and paid for a 2nd lunch somewhere else. There was excess batter on the outer edges of the fish that was so hard, and so sharp that it was inedible. Just a big disappointment.
