The Sugar Bowl is a Millersville University institution which I was finally able to try. It's a small shop, heavily geared toward the campus community, with basic pizzas and subs. I ordered a mixed cold cut sub, which was fresh, tasty, and a good value. Service was quick and friendly. The lone quirk of my visit--which I attribute to being Tuesday after the Super Bowl--was that they were out of 6 of their 8 fountain drink selections. read more

We wanted to stop for a quick meal before we went to a Millersville basketball game. We didn't know the area and were surprised that we couldn't find a main street in the area where the college kids get meals. After making a loop of campus we stumbled on the Sugar Bowl. As a Millersville U grad from the 90's, I still think this is the best cheesesteak stromboli around. Some of it may be the nostalgia, but their dough is like no other place I've had a boli and I've had many. The little bit is sauce and onions on the cheesesteak boli with the thin crust is heaven. Also, they seemed to have upgraded their turkey deli meat quality thru the years! So much better on their grinder! The SB will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. Prices are nice - spot on for a restaurant on a college campus. Service is thoughtful & patient. I am gluten-free and dairy-free, so I needed to ask some questions about the menu before I could decide what to order. They didn't seem bothered by my questions; and they worked to find the answers I needed. Very reassuring, if you have allergies or food sensitivities. I ordered the gluten-free wrap. It was a GF tortilla with sandwich things inside (meat, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo... I asked for no-cheese). It was DELICIOUS!!! They also have GF pizza! My friend ordered chicken strips and a milkshake, which she loved. The milkshake looked divine! They also have crab cake sandwiches, salad, spaghetti. Quite a nice selection. read more

I order wings $12.99 they guy on the phone said it will be $15 plus tax when I got there they told me I need it to pay tax and charge me $16.44 never going there again . The pizza is edible but not great, or even good. Their pies are small, the sauce is forgettable, and the crust is hard and bland tasting. I haven't had a sugar bowl pie in a while but I had remembered them fondly. I'm not sure if I changed, or the restaurant changed, but these were not the delicious pies I remember. I understand they're in a convenient place for those associated with the university campus that they border, but there's much better pizza if you leave the premises. read more

I'm a little heartbroken after our last visit. My husband and I have been eating strombolis and cheesesteaks at the Sugar Bowl for decades -since our college years. Any time we are back in Lancaster County, a stromboli at the Sugar Bowl is a must. It's been a couple years since our last visit, and since then the strombolis have changed. Last Saturday, we came in with another couple we know from college days. We got large strombolis and split them with our spouses. We all agreed that the filling was still as delicious as ever, but the dough was different. My one friend said she thought it was just undercooked. Her husband replied that he did think it was odd that our strombolis we were ready in 10 minutes. That was very strange to us. Sure enough, the outside of our strombolis were hot, but the inside was not. They were warm and the dough inside was chewy. I can count on one hand the times I've sent something back, but I wasn't going to get a stomach ache from underbaked dough. Everyone else ate theirs anyway, but I took mine up to the counter. the owner offered to make another one. I said a small one would be good. That was also hot on the outside but only warm on the inside. It was like the entire stromboli had been premade and just baked long enough in the oven to crisp the bread and warm the filling. I'm sure we'll be back, but I'm sticking to cheesesteaks and steering clear of the strombolis. read more

Oh, Sugar Bowl, where do I begin...? I'm honestly suprised that (as of March 2011) there is only one other review. For the most popular pizza place near campus I would expect a little more.... oh well! In one short sentence: Sugar Bowl is a delicious, greasy, unhealthy and satisfying campus pizza place. They're 'famous' for their stombolis- I've had them a few times and they're pretty good (though greasy). My favorite order is a chicken cheesesteak hoagie ('California Style') and they do a stellar job. The waffle fries are awesome. They make some killer milkshakes in a LOT of flavors (I suggest Moosetracks!) and they have free delivery. Inside, there is plenty of seating and while it's a little shady, it feels very home-y. The employees are really nice and happy to take care of you. One thing I like about Sugar Bowl is their fundraising 'program'- student organizations can deliver food on a Friday or Saturday and take all the tips as their earnings. (If you're an organization interested in this, just give them a call- there's no official literature about this program; it just seems to spread by word of mouth. Also, if you do this I suggest having 2 cars for the busiest time and make sure someone has a GPS.) Oh, the pizza? Some of my friends love it- especially the crust. It's a little too greasy for me, but at least it's cheap. Oh, and the pizza sizes are a little smaller than most places. One big advantage? The hours. This place is open till 2am Fri/Sat, and they do the business to make it worth it. It's been YEARS since I was at the Sugar Bowl but when I saw they were promoting a new menu, I thought, why not give it another try. I was watching a lacrosse clinic at the nearby MU Football field and could smell the deliciousness of grinders, pizza & cheesesteaks calling my name! I opted for a slice of cheese pizza - to eat there - while my Greek salad and gyro were to-go. The pizza was greasy, like I remembered, but after dabbing it dry, it was quite tasty. I was surprised when I opened the salad to find that the dressing was already mixed in. It was a light blend of oil, vinegar and oregano. It was good, but if I left it much longer, the lettuce could have been a soggy mess. The gyro was yummy and I enjoyed the fact that the pita was toasted. It gave a nice texture, and complemented a smooth tzatziki sauce. The prices were very fair too - I'll most definitely be back! read more

It's not a fancy place, in fact the decor hasn't changed much in decades. But the food is decent and it's nostalgic for me. It was a hangout spot after school 20+ years ago, and now my own kid comes here after school. We have lived in the area for the past two years and have never been to the Sugar Bowl. Went with a friend for their Stromboli's and they were awesome. The cheese steak was spot on. The small was huge. Since then I've been back for subs, salad and pizza. All were delicious ! Prices were good and friendly service. Definitely will return. read more

I live in Millersville and about 35 years ago I worked in a pizza shop similar to the Sugar Bowl. I loved it! Rarely have I found a stromboli made as well as we made it "back than". The Sugar Bowl has NAILED it and the best part of it is that every time I go back for another one, it tastes the same as before! EVERY TIME ~ The staff is always nice, quick, and personable. Ordered Pepperoni pizza. While waiting a group of 4 people came after me and ordered. Then, a guy came in with a sub and complained that they put mayo on his sub so they had to remake it. I saw a Pepperoni pizza come my way and said out loud "It's supposed to be to go." She ignored me and called out a different number after mine! She went back to the kitchen and must have inquired about the mistake! 5 - 10 minutes later my pizza came later! Pizza was of average quality. Went there for the first time this week and absolutely loved it. The Stromboli is really good. Also the staff is amazing and friendly. I use a wheelchair and as soon as they saw me, someone from behind the counter rushed to help me get in the door and also helped me out when I was finished. Definitely recommend this place. Being a Millersville University student this is a go to place for some good food. The pizza shop sets off the main strip in Millersville and may be a bit hard to find for non regulars. It's a pizza shop so it has all the regular items of a normal shop. The pizza is too old and the strombolis are the best items they have. TRY IT read more

I have gone here every week as a tradition with a group of friends. Food is of acceptable quality and the wait isn't very long. You won't pay too much for food, and the strombolis are top notch. I recently wrote reviews about 2 other pizza shops in Millersville within a mile of the Sugar Bowl. Thank god I found this place considering their food is great (cheesesteaks mainly that I know of), and they actually care about their customers. The pizza I had was just ok. But I plan on coming back often for the steak hoagies. They had messed up an order and took awhile to make it right HOWEVER...the important thing was the manager CARED, and MADE IT RIGHT! I will continue to frequent this establishment as long as I receive service like this! Thanks guys. Short Version : Pregnant wife ordered a BLT and we had it delivered plus 2 other large subs...no lettuce or tomato came on the thing! SH*! almost went crazy haha. First time at sugar bowl, trash is the only word to describe. Best part of my meal was the vanilla coca-cola. I won't be coming back. I advise you don't even go. Food served on foam plates. It reminded me of the time I visited Georgia, and they didn't tell me that every sandwich was served hot, and I was sort of nervous. He says: your sandwich was not piping hot; they toasted the bread, that's all. I got the Italian, and an order of their Chili Cheese Fries. She says: I loved my sandwich, and calmed down quite a bit. A little student boy gently played a miniature guitar outside next to us, which was sweet. He says: It was a ukelele! My sub was really good, and the chili for the fries was just terrific.
