This review is only for take-out, since that's what we got! The Summer Roll was above average, with fresh, flavorful ingredients, generous size, and tasty peanut dipping sauce. I had Beef Satay Pho, which was perfect for a chilly, damp day. The broth was light and mild, with just the right flavor. The vegetables/noodles/meat came separately so that all stayed fresh and crisp until we got back to our hotel. The sauces were also separate, so I could choose just how spicy to season. I ordered a small, and it was more than enough for lunch. Also on our order was something from the Chinese offerings: pork Szechuan. Stopped for take out for the first time since we were in the Peabody area and reviews were good. The chicken basil rice was excellent, had a little spicy kick to it which I love. General Gao Chix very good too. Fresh veggie spring rolls were ok, a little flavorless and couldn't get past the avocado inside, not used to that in a spring roll. Love this north shore Vietnamese gem. The prices are reasonable and the food tastes authentic. The menu is extensive and you're sure to find something you like. I've tried pho, and the bun vermicelli bowls and both can compete with those in Chinatown, Boston. The interior is nicely decorated and they do have a small separate bar that you can eat at. My boyfriend and I left after each eating two appetizers, two entrees and tea for under 30$. How can you beat that? read more

I ordered the nem cuon (vietnamese spring rolls), walnut shrimp aka shrimp mayo, grilled pork, and yan chow fried rice. I didn't care too much for their fried rice but everything else was amazing. Sugar Cane is one of those rare places where you get good food and cheap price. The specials are always good although you might have to tell them to up the spiciness if you like your food authentic. Definitely try the Spicy Beef salad. read more

Very happy belly after trying Sugar Cane today... my only sadness is that I didn't find it sooner! This is my favorite Peabody find to date. Quick, friendly service. Fresh food at a great price. And just so darn good. The ambience is pretty standard, like a very clean Panera. But the food, oh my. I ordered the vegetable spring rolls and a small size of the vegetable Pho and everything was just so darn good. A small sized pho is definitely enough for one moderately hungry person (and it's only $5.50!). The North Shore definitely doesn't have enough places serving pho, but Sugar Cane is the best this side of Boston. I'd recommend asking for double servings of the red chili sauce, so good! read more

This was absolutely amazing. My girlfriend and I had a late lunch on a rainy Sunday. I had vermicelli with grilled vegetables and tofu. She had sesame chicken. Everything was fresh fresh fresh! Presentation was spot on. This is a chef who cooks with passion. Between the two of us the bill was $21.00 with no drinks. We could not have been more satisfied. We plan on returning again and again. I am a fan of their "House" choices. Surprisingly, I am not a fan of Fried Rice, however, I enjoy eating theirs since they load it up with just about everything in the menu. I have lived in this area for more than 30 years and there has been several establishments at this address, however, It has been my first choice of Chinese/Vietnamese Food since I tried it. (just plated more elegantly) ask for things like chopsticks and extra spicy or extra crispy on certain plates which they advertise on the menu and expect the request to be forgotten. Ok. I'll start with the good. The food is phenomenal. The dining room has absolutely zero soundproofing. It's loud. Compound that with crying children, and it amounts to us leaving. On a tangent, if you have children, stay home, find a sitter, or keep them quiet. As an adult paying full price at restaurants, I don't want to hear or see your children. Got it? I ordered a Mandarin Mai Tai. This was awful. Our waiter was like the Micro Machines guy. Everything was a hurry in some bastardized version of English. Have been here many times on Christmas. We missed last year, due to new grandchild. We have always loved the food, and have recommended the restaurant to others. I am very sorry to write an unfavorable review, but our experience today was not good. Christmas dinner is my gift to family members. This meal was so bad, that I'm going to have to do a "re-do" at another restaurant. I'm embarrassed by the meal that we got at Sugar Cane. Today, we were handed a very limited "holiday" menu, with prices much higher than the regular menu. After asking, we were told we could order some things off the regular menu. A family favorite is the vermicelli bowls and pho which were not available. None of this was on the website, which we checked prior to travelling from out of state to Peabody. The menu was mainly Chinese items, not Vietnamese. One member of our party ordered Pad Thai, which looked and smelled terrible. She took one bite and said it wasn't Pad Thai. It was sent back. Other folks had 3 Delights and Baby Bok Choy, both not very good, they ate less than half. One party chose not to have an entree as there was nothing on the very limited "holiday" menu that was appealing. I don't know what has happened to this place, but its not the same at all. read more

Just moved to the area, so I'm pretty new here. I ordered delivery from here today, pupu plater, and a small chicken fried rice. The only thing I can say good about this place is how fast their delivery is, well I mean they're located less than 1/2 mile from me. Instead of the Chicken fried rice, I received chicken Burnt rice. The crab Rangoon was pitiful and gross. I did enjoy the beef teriyaki and the egg roll. I will never order from this place again. In search of good Pho on the North Shore we ended up here. I know what to expect of great Pho, I'm originally from SoCal and have eaten great Pho in Little Saigon in Westminster, CA. First of all, the place is nice, maybe a bit dark which made me a bit nervous. The service was okay. They could be a bit more welcoming and friendly. We ordered the pork and shrimp and the vegetarian spring rolls. They were good and the peanut sauce was pretty standard. They brought out a limited amount of condiments, they don't have them at the table like most Vietnamese restaurants, so we kept asking for more. Honestly felt like we were bothering our waiter. The Pho was okay, the broth was fragrant but way to sweet. The veggies we're not on the side but included in. If you're a regular pho eater you understand that making than bowl of Pho "your own" is important. I like deciding what I put in. The pho did have plenty of meat in it and my friend enjoyed her vegetarian pho. Overall, the experience was okay. I would rather drive a bit further and go to Pho 888. My mother and I decided to stop in for a late lunch, that was a mistake. We both ordered the lo mein , egg roll, crab Rangoon, boneless spareribs and chicken teriyaki. The boneless ribs were over-cooked, burnt and extremely dry as was the chicken teriyaki, the egg rolls had a funny taste, the crab Rangoon and lo mein, edible. The waitress noticed my dinner plate pushed off to the side and inquired about our lunch. Explaining what I mentioned above the waitress was kind enough to ask if I would like to try another entree. Food is always great and consistent. So is the service. I do not understand all the bad reviews. The best asian food in the area and grear prices too specially for lunch. I am so glad this place is down the street from our house. They consistently have great food and the staff is always so nice. The menu has a mix of Vietnamese and Chinese food, maybe a bit of Thai, but I'd say predominantly Chinese. The pho is tasty, with a nice broth. They have an 'ongoing' special with ban mieu, which is worth trying. I grew up in Thailand and can say that their Thai spring rolls are as authentic as it gets, if only the serving was larger!! Chicken wings are awesome too. The only bad thing I can say is that it does get loud and there are always obnoxious diners there. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Visited this restaurant on a whim while running some errands with the family. Service was prompt courteous enough but somewhat cold. We ordered fried calamari for an appetizer and that was the only enjoyable thing that we ordered. My brother order Pho which was so bland. I had the Pad Thai which was oily and tasted like dirty oil.
