    Candy Planet

They changed the name to Sugar Planet. They have so much candy here! It was so hard to decide. They also have clothes, souvenirs, hats, men's swimsuits. Didn't see ladies swimsuits there. They had the most salt water Taffy. They also had like two aisles of flavors to choose from. I got a box of it which is almost gone. The floor in this place is tie-dye colored which is really neat. They also have an assortment of chocolate pretzels, different kinds of chocolates and Ice Cream! My favorite taffy from there was: Carmel, Butterscotch, Vanilla, Candy Corn, Cinnamon, birthday cake, grape, watermelon, banana strawberry, and cherry. I might stop by again before we head home to Michigan. I also bought a t-shirt and a bathing suit cover up and two bumper stickers. I can't imagine how a child must feel when they walk in the door of this place! They even have candy from when I was little which is hard to find anywhere else. The people behind the counter were really friendly. There was one teenager (I think) that was doing stock for more clothing. He was wearing headphones that was rude to me when I asked him a question. Employers shouldn't allow workers to wear headphones when they are working. Anyways... this place is definitely worth every dollar I spent on candy and so on! Wish we had a place like this in Michigan.

Great ice cream and great service. Our pup was able to come in and got a free pup cup of ice cream and picked out a toy! Michelle helped us today and was so nice! I would definitely recommend this shop!

Bottom Line: Candy, more candy and souvenirs sold at high prices in a colorful atmosphere that kids will love but may leave adults cringing. I expected to really dislike Sugar Kingdom but I must admit I found it whimsical and mesmerizing. Of course it caters to kids and is overpriced but I still found a tour through the store irresistible. I was thoroughly entertained looking at the cheap clothing, bags, souvenirs, bulk candy bins, stuffed animals and trinkets and such. And I really like the swirly cotton candy inspired floor. Despite finding the store and concept interesting I didn't buy anything. What disappoints me about Sugar Kingdom is that it is substantially filled with low-quality, off-brand candy that is probably manufactured overseas. A lot of the candy is sold in bulk which is fun but Of course you pay a premium for all of that variety. One pound of bulk candy (gummies, hard candy, non-chocolate candy, etc.) is about $14 per pound. And since there are not scales located in the store for customer use you don't know how much money you're going to blow on refined sugar until it's time to pay. Still, I am curious about the Sugar Kingdom business model - just how many pounds of gummy candy must be sold during the three month peak season to make a profit for the year? And what is the inventory turnover ratio? I digress. Also, I hear rumors of an ice skating rink out back. What is that all about?!? I've tried to learn a little more about Nags Head's newest sweet retreat and found a few peculiar items on the Sugar Kingsom website - namely grammatical errors, the lack of address and contact information and a comparison to Disneyland. The Disneyland reference just struck me as odd for a East Coast store with locations in NJ, VA, NC and SC. Anyway, Sugar Kingdom is more of a curiosity for me than a place to spend money but I'm sure kids and doting parents and grandparents will love it!

Candy out the wazoo that every kid should like. Prices reasonable. Odd typo on the bag though.

Wow! Loved this place! I was like a kid in a candy store! Big, bright and huge selection. Pricey, but so are all buy by the pound candy places. I even got a t-shirt that was reasonably priced. Had game area for kids. Not sure if it was up and running, but looked neat. Advertised ice skating, but I didn't see it or any sign. Loved the figures inside and out. Overall fun place!

I can not wait to go back, with friends or solo! This was by far the sweetest (pun intended) iced…read morecream shop I have been to in a long time. Let's start with location. Great size parking lot, sounds like they get a LOT of customers based off their signs. And they do have a lot, so you know exactly what to expect. The whole house is beautiful, love their decor and the cute way people hide money in the cracks and crevices of the establishment. This is the second place I have been to that I've seen this done. My younger one hid a quarter of her own. Also, wish we weren't rushing out so quickly to head to our next spot because I would have loved some cute merch! T-shirts, hoodies, bags, cups, etc. The establishment is clean, well maintained, and overall a total OBX vibe. Lots of sitting areas inside and outside on the porch. Service was cool, younger highschool kids mainly, they had a lot of them at the counter. I didn't need any help but they seem ready and willing to be at service. No complaints. They also offer military discount. A+ for our active military and veterans. The ice cream was great. Think froyo style places where it's based off weight. I had a mixture of Vanilla, pretzel, and cheesecake. I liked the cheesecake best especially with the cheesecake toppings. My friend got an ice cream sandwich, note she isn't a super sweets person but she really enjoyed it. She did say the cookie part of the sandwich was a bit too sugary for her personally. Me on the other hand, bring on the sugar. The kids had an awesome time selecting their ice cream and toppings. Every one of them loved being able to make their own decisions and create exactly what they wanted. As for the toppings I do wish they had crushed graham crackers, would have been great with the cheesecake bites. Note* Slowly pull the handle for ice cream. Some come out way faster than others and you end up with a way too filled bowl. Overall an excellent experience and a certified Surfin' Spoon roadie! Just need to grab some merch next time to show them off as I travel!

Heard a lot of good things about Sufin Spoon online so my boyfriend and I were excited to try. We…read morewaited about 40ish minutes in line which we didn't mind (but just a heads up it tends to be packed at night). My expectations were high and I did go into this place thinking it was predominantly frozen yogurt, which they only had 4 froyo flavors and the rest were gelato which was disappointing. Peach, Cheesecake, White Chocolate and Caramel Sea Salt were the flavors which they weren't bad but i just thought they had a larger selection of froyo. The space is really nice, cozy, lots of seating, and spacious. Definitely a nice space to enjoy your treat. Overall my experience was alright, like i said, i went into thinking this was mainly a frozen yogurt spot with some ice cream selections because most of the stuff i saw online did promote it as that. i do wish they had an online menu of their flavors to know ahead of time what i want to get. I would come back if they have different flavors that interest me.
