I was skiing Copper mountain with some friends for the entire day and was exhausted. We grabbed a couple brews at the bar near the American Eagle lift, and one my friends said we had to go this donut place he tried the last time he skied. Let me tell you, there wasn't anything better after skiing 5-6+ hours that day! Knowing my sweet tooth I couldn't resist. I got the half dozen of mini donuts with Nutella, oreos, chocolate sauce, and powdered sugar. AKA diabetes but what the hell right?! Watching the little doughnuts floating down their assembly line on the fryer to a destiny of powdered sugar or cinnamon/sugar was pretty enchanting... dance of the sugar plum pastries... whimsical is another word I'd use. But what isn't awesome when you're on vacation anyway? The mini donuts are made right before your eyes. Like a grown up Easy Bake Oven, but better! The toppings were somewhat haphazardly thrown on top, but there's not really any way to mess up a hot donut topped with peanut butter, cinnamon sugar, smores, or strawberry. What a cute little place! Amy welcomes you as soon as you walk in and is so nice enough to give a rundown of the place. I highly recommend the classic mini donuts (cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar), but you can go fancy with a bunch of other toppings as well. The hot chocolate is yummy on a chilly Christmas morning. Fun place! My kids ages 8 and 10 loved it. The building is adorable and it is fun to watch the donuts being made. Employees were nice too. We tried both the cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar varieties and both were delicious. My only complaint is that the donuts are very small and very expensive. A 1/2 dozen donuts really amounts to a single donut more or less. The business would not survive with that pricing if they weren't in a resort. That said, we all loved Sugar Lips. Although they are a little expensive I absolutely love these donuts! There is something about their crispy texture but soft innards that make them divine. I'm born and raised in Colorado, and know how important the ski industry is to our economy, the good and the not so nice come with this, it is a volatile industry. I also know how risky it is to open a small business. The owners of Sugar Lips are amazing, and incredibly creative people. Seriously, skiing and donuts?! Brilliant! Nutella on donuts? S'mores? Yes please!!! YUMMY! I have also been in the tourist service industry for the past ten years, and can attest that that those of us in the industry put up with a lot of crap from customers. We are human. I have an extremely high standard for those also in the industry, and expect nothing but the best, and the two at SL are amazing! Working 7 days a week, 12 hours a day? (it would get to the best of us thick skin industry workers) Amazing! They always have a smile they have on their faces! As well, as a small business with only two people is tough work! The hours of operation are perfect (I for one cannot be on the slopes all day, and need a break!) And they handle all the stress brilliantly! The charm of the place, the people, and the fact that they are environmentally conscious with their products, small local business, community supporters, and dog friendly will keep me coming back to Sugar Lips! But customer service is DESPICABLE. literally had the worker (refused to provide her name) call security because she felt "threatened" because there was 6 black girls in the store at once. What's even more upsetting is she's the same lady who was working 2 days ago when we went there for the first time and I tipped her 50$ on a 30$ tab. :( definitely won't be returning. And to make matters worse, the security guard she called (Richard) was very rude and condescending to a group of WOMEN and called us out of our names, accused of being racist, and mocked us. So so sad as I LOVE to support small family owned businesses, but they should really consider looking into new workers who are accepting and kind to all customers. It's a doughnut shop that sells tiny doughnuts, smaller than a doughnut hole. The lady working the counter was super nice and helped us decide. I dare you to make it past this little cabin in the middle of Copper Village when you smell these delicious little donuts. I ended up here on afternoon when I couldn't seem to get an Irish Coffee. It may not have had the "Irish" but it was a fresh cup of coffee with freshly made snack dough nuts. This is a really fun place at Copper for a quick treat. It's affordable, and about 500 feet off the main center area. I would have given five stars, but I've found that the donuts were a little greasy the last two times I've been there.
