Prepare your wallet - this is definitely a splurge, but a great place to dine in or take out. Tips for takeout: - Order online; no phone orders. It is streamlined to use Postmates for a socially distanced experience. - ApplePay makes it easy if you are set up for that (we couldn't figure out how to pay any other way). - Parking in Manhattan Beach is always a struggle, so grab a buddy to circle the car while you hop out to pick up your order. - Walk past the diners on the patio into the front entrance -- the side door is for delivery staff only. - Even with the confirmation on your cellphone, you need to verify the name on your order, as well as the phone number on your Postmates profile. It's reassuring to know they care about giving the orders to the right customers! As many Yelpers have mentioned, the sushi was amazing. I got the $25 To-Go Lite and my sushi buddy got the $33 To-Go Trust Me, and we were both satisfied with the amount of food, enjoyed at our favorite lookout with a Thermos of hot green tea that we prepared at home. The box lid has guidance on the sequence and steps to eat the sushi, but you can be a rebel and eat it in whatever order you want! When i first walked into sugarfish i was greeted by the host who put my name on the list for a hour wait which i was okay with because of how busy they were and how limited the seating was.. 1 hr and 30 minutes goes by and she calls up another guest with the same name that walked in 30 minutes ago and seats that party when i asked them if they made a mistake they kinda just said they will seat me next and never owned up to it which was very disappointing! I have heard about Sugarfish restaurant for some time now, nothing but good things about them. So i drove 15 miles one way to try out their sushi. Being still under quarantine this was a to go order, there is metered parking in the front (good luck) plus there is also metered parking structure right next door too. One door was to pick up your call in order, and the other was to order. The staff Charlene was very nice plus helpful me place my order I ordered edamame, a lobster roll, a cucumber roll, salmon and sea bass sushi, she stated to me that it would be a 30 min wait...OK now the person who take you order have no clue on how really long it's going to take at all, places really need to stop guessing and go back to see with their own eyes then come back and tell you the true, I waited a little over 50 mins. I went in to see about my order then I was told that they did't have any more sea bass ( I kept my cool ) she said that I could exchange it for light white type fish and it would be another 15 mins. I get home and noticed some Items were missing...I not getting mad I'm PISS OFF! but cool and calm, I called and spoke to the manger Mr. Scott he handle this situation and I was please. Overrated :/ . Overall, the experience was disappointing. For quality sashimi, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. My usual go-to is the local Japanese market which offers better quality at half the price. Despite positive reviews, the sashimi here didn't meet expectations. Fresh and delicious sushi/sashimi/nigiri. No avocado or cucumbers...just purist sushi with rice, seaweed and fresh fish. Place absolutely lives up to the hype. My favorite was the tuna sashimi with ponzu and chives or anything with salmon. Probably best salmon I've tasted. They prepare it on warm rice for eating right away. The seaweed for both cut and hand rolls is fresh and crisp. My husband doesn't love raw fish but enjoyed everything he had! Definitely recommend the omakase ("trust me") experience!! Summary: Still Must try Still one of my favorite sushi joints to go. The only exception is that its all to go. Their packaging is awesome. My original plan was to pick up their Trust Me and take my SO to the beach and park to catch a view of the beach. The only flaw in the plan was that everyone else was thinking to do the same thing. Hopefully, one of you will take a picture of the beach while eating Sugarfish :-D I luckily snag a parking spot near the restaurant so it was still all good. What made Sugarfish awesome was that it kept all its employees even during these trying times. Not just that but they also still honored their complimentary Birthday Meal. For those who are not familiar with the free membership perk, you will get a complimentary meal on your birthday once you have at least eat a certain number of meals at Sugarfish(just don't forget to register each time you grab a meal). They email you a confirmation for what time to pick up which was precise in my case. Ordered the dineLA (today is last day) takeout box. I liked the following in this order: Salmon and Yellowtail sushi crab inside the cut roll Salmon sashimi Albacore sushi Tuna cut roll Scallop sushi All the sushi seemed melt-in-my-mouth fresh. Weird shape and it doesn't hit the palate the way the shorter cubier ones do. Albacore sushi- wayyy too much ponzu. I love ponzu, I always keep my ponzu from the tuna sashimi for extra dipping. My rice shouldn't be disintegrating from being picked up properly from the side with chopsticks. Sushi rice- not warm enough. Weird but there should be a temperature difference between warm rice and fish. Toro hand roll- nori is not toasted/roasted enough. You don't smell the roasted seaweed as you would at other location. Four of us just had lunch at SUGARFISH. The food was excellent, as always, but our experience was completely ruined by the party at the table next to us. The tables are very close together and halfway through our meal the man at the next table got up and started screaming at my 81 year old sister-in-law. He accused her of staring at his children and called her a "fucking racist" and would not stop attacking her. The manager came over but was unable or unwilling to do anything to protect her. Be ready to pay for parking if you want to be close, otherwise, just park farther away for free parking. I love how simplistic the menu is. I ordered 2 of the sets and they were perfect. One set per person is ideal, along with sake or a beverage of your choice. The food taste fresh and you'll get no stomach pain afterwards. I'm also not a huge hand roll fan, but these hand rolls were the best I've had. First of all, I've never had rice that was as delicious as the ones served here at Sugarfish. SO full of flavor! The last time I was here, I ordered hot green tea. This really turned me off. The hot water was filled to the brim with a tea bag. That is one negative about this place.
