We were running late and I was able to call and push our reservation to 30 min later easily. We arrived 5 minutes early and the hostess seemed frazzled. We got seated 5-10 min later. She did not give us a drink menu. Our waitress was as helpful and tried her best (seemed new to working there). We ordered drinks and did not receive them for 30 minutes (we ordered 3 of their cocktails and a glass of wine, nothing complicated). We were told bread would be coming and asked about it later and our waitress said they were busy. The bread also came out 30 minutes later with the drinks, it was very fresh and hot. Our food came 25 minutes later (4 appetizers, salad, 2 sides and one entree). The food was all really amazing, unique flavors, and the chef's execution on using exotic meats in each dish was spot on! Every dish we ordered was excellent! The venison was perfect! We were planning on ordering a 2nd cocktail but everything took so long and we had an early morning. Our waitress didn't offer a dessert menu and when we asked her she said there might only be 2 desserts left and she went to double check. She had no descriptions for either dessert and made them sound basic, also skipped. It took us almost 2 hours to finish dinner! Unfortunately, we found a small rock/pebble in our gnocchi!! My friend actually bit down on it when he ate and he calmly told the waitress to let the chef know and showed her. She did apologize, but did nothing and seemed to not tell anyone. I was expecting a comp on our bill or something on top of the long wait times on a monday night with a reservation and not a full restaurant, towards the end of the dinner rush. On the resy reservation, I also selected the birthday option under occasion celebrated and we did not get any acknowledgement or dessert for my friend's birthday. The level of this restaurant, food prices, 4.5 stars on Yelp and mostly excellent reviews is really disappointing the service is extremely lacking and mediocre. This place has ambiance but it missing some of the basics that would warrant a higher review. Made a reservation for a Saturday night- which I would highly recommend doing if you're going to go. We were seated at an amazing table overlooking the river. Our server was friendly though there were a bunch of servers who stopped by our table overlooking the course of the night. All were pleasant, though our server asked us if we were there for a special event when we sat and we said no, then at the end of them meal he though it was my husband's birthday, but not in a "here a drink on the house" kind of way, just an awkward comment. I got the bone in pork chop which came on a serving shaved Brussel sprouts. The pork chop was perfectly cooked and very tender. Our server recommended we get a side, so we tried the truffle Mac and cheese, it was fine but not great-it was not all that cheesy though we could taste the truffle. I wouldn't recommend it. My husband's risotto with filet and mushrooms only had the scantest amount of filet and mushrooms though was very flavorful. When it arrived at our table it had sloshed all over the serving dish and the server said she was going to fix it it just went to the servers station (2 feet from us) and then came back a minute later-I'm not sure what exactly that fixed but the presentation certainly was not that of a dish that costs $50! I had the smoked Sazerac for my drink. It was nice and the cherry smoke imparted a great flavor though it's not supposed to be served with an ice cube. Additionally, the ice cube within was not clear or perfectly cubed. For a $22 cocktail, this was a miss in my book. I had the crème brûlée for dessert and they strangely put very wet strawberries on the brûlée. I only got a very small space that I could attempt to crack the brûlée. It tasted delicious, though the strawberries really should have been served on the side. Between courses, a bear walked up the river which was an exciting development. My husband and I had gone to another establishment in the area, and we had a horrible experience. So, I left there without eating a bite of my food. Appetite was suppressed, but I still wanted a little something. I checked out this place online, and it peaked my interest. I was particularly drawn to the frog leg appetizer on there menu, because I like frog legs in general. My husband had forced himself to eat his meal at the other place, so he wasn't hungry at all. But, he was willing to give me the opportunity to try what I had my heart set on. Once we entered the Heirloom Room, we were greeted by the friendliest bartender. No seats were available at this time, due to us not making a reservation. It's a pretty small restaurant, so reservations are recommended. We were fortunate to get two seats at the bar. I ordered the frog legs, and the bartender confirmed this was a good choice. I informed her of what happened at the other place, and she was determined to make my experience here wonderful. She offered their housemade rosemary & garlic Focaccia bread, which was delectable. This held me over, until my frog legs arrived. There were five of them, and the presentation was quite pleasing. They tasted absolutely fabulous! If you like frog legs, you have to order these. You'll be so happy you did! The frog legs come with onion rings too. Makes a great combination! This place was so comforting, in more ways than one. I can't wait to go back when we do have a reservation for dinner. By the looks of other people's entrées, I know everything on the menu is going to be delicious. It's one of those restaurants where you can't go wrong with what you order. I took my husband here for his birthday dinner while we were visiting from Texas. We started with the wild mushroom bisque and the wild boar appetizer--both were absolutely amazing. I had never tried wild boar before, and it exceeded my expectations. For our main courses, my husband ordered the venison plate, and I chose the chicken entrée. We also shared brussels sprouts and mac & cheese. My husband really enjoyed his meal, and we both loved the mac & cheese. The gnocchi was also impressive. However, I found the chicken a bit underwhelming--it could really use a sauce or something to enhance the flavor. The brussels sprouts were our least favorite part of the meal. Since we were celebrating his birthday, the staff kindly treated us to pecan pie for dessert, which was very good. That said, for the overall cost, I expected a bit more from the experience. The seating was another downside. We were placed outdoors with metal chairs that were quite uncomfortable, which detracted from the experience--especially for taller or plus-size guests. I would recommend this place for two people max. The best seats are 2 person tables, next to windows with the beautiful sounds of the river creating a very lovely ambiance. We had reservations for 3 and were offered seats outside, in February. They did have a heater outside, but the chairs were hard plastic, and not something my hubby could sit in comfortably with his new bionic hip. We asked to sit inside, and it clearly threw everything into chaos, as I later overheard the server commenting about musical chairs. We were offered a table closer to the street side, but my hubby asked if we could sit at an empty table nearer the riverside. That table ended up being next to the very busy bathroom. It was also adjacent to the main walkway and one person ran in to my chair, pretty roughly. I almost felt as if it was a passive aggressive "that's what you get." I think hearing the staff complaining about musical chairs negatively impacted my experience, so I will keep my thoughts on food brief. I love the idea of Appalachian inspired fine dining. We enjoyed the frog legs and the bread. The wild boar croquettes were average. The steak and lamb were amazing, but my hubby venison was served cold, and our brussell sprouts came at the end of our meal. They tasted more like an upscale cole slaw. I would like to come back for a date night, to give them another shot, because there are a ton of reviews from people who had much better experiences. read more

So we started with the wild boar croquettes. While the flavor was ok the execution of these needs some work. The Gruyère wasn't there, the aioli was a small drop on top of each croquette so it didn't do much either. Ditch the stringy, metallic, tasting leeks from the center and add a ramekin of the aioli so customers can dip the croquettes into it. The potato cakes were overly fried and greasy and the sauce tasted more like curry than what was described on the menu. Venison loin had good flavor but was rare, cold in the middle, versus the medium rare that I requested and was also suggested by our waiter. Lastly, English punk pop music isn't really what anyone wants to listen to. The Heirloom room is really close to being great but it needs some management. I do not recommend The Heirloom Room. We had a 10:00 a.m. reservation and arrived on time. There were approximately 10 people waiting ahead of us, which was reasonable. Staff seated a few parties but only asked guests whether they were staying at the hotel and never asked if anyone had a reservation. As more guests arrived, staff stopped acknowledging the waiting groups altogether. There was no greeting, no update on wait times, and no explanation regarding seating delays or reservation order. We kept seeing people leaving their tables and lots were open. After 39 minutes of standing and waiting without a single interaction from staff, we left. The issue was not the wait itself, but the complete lack of communication and basic front-of-house management. Based on this experience, I would not return. read more

The Heirloom Room is definitely not your typical Gatlinburg tourist restaurant. It is a classy establishment that has classy fishing cabin vibes. We had made a reservation for 11 a head of time and had no issues. Honestly there were lots of open tables throughout our meal so you might not need a reservation for a smaller group. They started us out with the most amazing focaccia bread I could eat it all day. I got the house salad. I was worried that the whiskey travelers vinaigrette was going to be too much but it wasn't. I really enjoyed heirloom room :) the only con I would mention is that there is very little "direct" front parking (like 3-4 spots), the rest of the parking is over the bridge in front of the hotel (it's owned by the same folks who own the restaurant). Makes for about a 3-5 min walk depending on how fast you can go, maybe longer if you're mobility limited. You can also park for pay a little closer at the neighboring hotel. All the aside - the vibes here are really nice! The staff were friendly and attentive and i really enjoyed what I had including a cocktail (the "Mattie's fresh white linen" - my server said it was the most refreshing and it struck me that way!), and the wild mushroom bisque with a side of the vegetable masala pot pie. I wasn't all that hungry and it was the perfect amount of food. Bathrooms were immaculate too. We had dinner at The Heirloom Room while visiting Gatlinburg. Let me start with the positive: the food was outstanding. The Scotch Quail Eggs were excellent, the Grilled Lamb Rack was perfectly prepared, and the wine selection was very good. The kitchen absolutely delivered. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food, especially at this price point. We had reservations, yet waited approximately 15-20 minutes to be seated while a walk-in couple was accommodated first. We requested one of the creekside two-top tables. We were told both the outdoor and indoor tables were reserved, even though they simply hadn't been cleared yet. We understood and didn't mind waiting if necessary. However, the outdoor table remained empty for nearly an hour before the next reservation arrived, and the indoor table sat empty for our entire meal until another party requested that it be combined into a four-top. It was frustrating to be told the tables were unavailable only to watch them sit unused. Throughout the evening, dirty tables remained uncleared for extended periods, and cleaning supplies were left sitting on tables for 15-30 minutes. In a restaurant of this size, these details were difficult to overlook and made the dining room feel neglected rather than polished. At one point, our server dropped a dish. Accidents happen, and that's understandable. What surprised us was that there was no acknowledgment to the dining room, the broken dish remained on the floor for several minutes, and food continued to be served around it. The chef eventually came out to expedite dishes and simply pushed the broken pieces aside with his foot before the area was finally swept later. That sequence felt completely out of place in what is presented as an upscale dining experience. The end of the meal was the most disappointing. We were never offered dessert, after-dinner drinks, or even our check. After waiting quite a while, we finally walked to the bar ourselves, where our server was on her phone. She appeared irritated when we asked to pay, and it was the bartender who ultimately interrupted the conversation and got our check processed. Even after seeing our written feedback on the receipt, there was no acknowledgment or apology from anyone. None of these issues individually would have ruined the evening. Together, however, they created the impression that the front-of-house operation lacked attention to detail and hospitality. Fine dining is about much more than exceptional food--it's about the complete experience. When you're spending over $140 before gratuity for two people, guests should reasonably expect attentive service, polished operations, and genuine hospitality. I sincerely hope management addresses these issues because the kitchen is producing food worthy of a much better dining experience. read more

The negative, parking is on other side of river under condo building. No candles to celebrate birthday. It's a great location for breakfast with outside table by the river. Nothing can beat the sound of water flowing. My dinner is great with the lamp. We had 2 mocktails, which are joyful. Cauliflower steak is not so bad. The frog, however, is not as good as we expected as it was a little bit dry. Still taste the smoke but the texture is not quite right. WOW! A small place that packs a big punch. We were looking for a nice place to eat that was local to our plans that night. After looking at yelp to find a place I can across this place that had very few but good reviews. So I decided to give it a go. Arrived and it was very hard to find a parking spot and almost had to park across the road. We walked in right at opening at 4:30. It seamed that they were not ready for someone to walk in. We were seated right away next to the river. Beautiful view with big windows. Nice chairs that are comfortable to sit. Very nice and trendy on the inside as well. We ordered our food and some focaccia bread came out. It was great! We don't drink but it's a full bar. They had some different cuts of meat that I wasn't use to but he explained it well. Our waiter knew his stuff which was nice. Our food was delicious. My filet was absolutely amazing. The fingerlings were a little so so but good. My wife's chicken and squash and good also.
