They explained everything in detail, made the experience feel personal, and got us excited to continue the scavenger hunt to the other locations. This place is huge and is quite popular! Walk up to the counter and pay for a tasting experience - that is the way to truly enjoy this place. Service is friendly and the guide for your tasting will tell lots of seemingly scripted jokes; it's fun. You will definitely leave with a buzz and get your money's worth! I am not a big fan of moonshine, but still had fun trying new things, especially the creams and the moonshine pickle and cherries. I don't drink, but my fiance wanted to stop by this store to get a christmas present for his father. I didn't know too much about moonshine but we received a quick history lesson as we walked through the store (something about the alcohol prohibition). There's a bar where the bartenders let guests sample their whiskey and spiked fruit for a fee. What I found unique about Ole Smoky Distillery was that they had several flavors I've never seen anywhere else: Apple Pie, Coffee, Banana, Orange Sherbert, etc. I think if you're an alcohol enthusiast you should definitely try their moonshine. They still them in stores all around the country, but the only have a main distillery like this one in select locations. read more

Ole Smokey is a must visit when going to Pigeon Forge! I always have some sort of their flavored moonshine in my fridge at all times so when I saw that there was a stand alone shop, I needed to go. This particular shop is one out of three in Pigeon Forge and is on The Island. There's tons of parking and there's a tram that takes you to and from your parking section to the actual island where you're greeted by a large fountain. Old Smokey is just a step away from the tram. Ole Smokey is clean, warm in color, and welcoming. We love how rustic it was, making for a cozy feel. Everything was organized well and shopping was easy. Everything was labeled correctly and boldly. We visited Thursday afternoon, hoping that the tasting wasn't as busy and sure enough, we were able to hop into one almost immediately! We paid for the premium tasting so that we could have the full experience. Our bartender, Hayley (aka Lashes), was awesome! She was funny and kind and very well informed. I highly recommend doing the premium tasting because we ended up buying two of the three samples on that list (snickerdoodle and the mandarins). The samples change everyday so if you're on vacation and visiting multiple times, do visit again! Ole Smokey had some promotions going so we ended up doing the Buy 5 Get 1 Free WITH a free cooler and box of 6 shooters (we chose the coffee flavor). We also bought a magnet and a sippy cup lid for laughs. I can't wait to come back to visit all three locations so that I can get a free shirt! My sister and I stopped by here during our trip to Pigeon Forge. They offer a wide variety of moonshine flavors, and they do card you before any tasting. My sister tried the Moonshine Cherries and said it was strong. I tried the White Chocolate Strawberry Cream which was creamy and smooth. It was definitely my favorite. The employees were very friendly and helpful, explaining the flavors and answering our questions. My sister ended up buying her boyfriend a T-shirt and got me a keychain, plus she picked up a mini moonshine set. Coming to Pigeon Forge for the first time, I definitely wanted to try a moonshine tasting. I wasn't sure what to expect, but once we arrived, they explained the two tasting options. We chose the one where you get to try all of their available moonshines for $8 per person, so my mother and I decided to do that. The tasting itself felt very rushed and hard to keep up with. I wish they had taken a little more time to explain the flavors instead of just handing them out quickly and moving on. The employee helping us didn't seem very enthusiastic and gave off the impression that she didn't really want to be there that day. On a positive note, the inside of Ole Smoky Moonshine was very clean. They wiped down the counters after every tasting, which I appreciated. One downside for me was that you couldn't choose which flavors you wanted to sample -- they just served whatever was included in that tasting lineup. I felt that was a disadvantage because I don't want to buy something if I'm not sure I'll like it, and there were a few flavors I was hoping to try that either weren't available or just aren't carried at that location. I did enjoy the deals they had going on, which honestly caused us to buy more than we planned -- but the offers were too good to pass up. We ended up getting the cooler that came with two mini six-packs. I do wish we could've chosen the free sixth flavor ourselves, but I wasn't too upset since I did like the butter pecan. Still, it would've been nice to have more choice. When we went to check out, I still needed to pick three more flavors and asked for recommendations, but the employee didn't give much guidance and just said to get whatever I liked. I understand they were dealing with a very busy time, and she did mention that, but I wish there had been a little more enthusiasm and helpfulness overall. That said, the moonshine itself was good, and the tasting experience was enjoyable enough that I would definitely do it again. It convinced us to purchase moonshine that same day, which was a win. So we just happened to wander into this establishment because a lot of other places were closed at 9pm on a Wednesday night. First huge shoutout to staff member Keebler. He greeted us when we walked in and we headed straight to the tasting bar (ok sorry no pics once you start with the shine it's all down hill lol). For $10 I think we got like 10-12 tastings. Now at first Keebler put these little tiny communion cups down and you think what did I just pay for?? However man by the third shot I was already feeling it and by the last one had a good buzz (I also dont drink much and weigh 110lbs). Keebler was soo funny and had a ton of information. I felt like I was on the hillbilly booze jungle cruise at Disneyland IYKYK. We did end uo buying six jars and walked away with some free minis and a backpack to carry everything also for free. This was a fun thing to do and a very nice shop with a ton of different moonshine and merch. Give Keebler a raise his comedy is on point. read more

He had such a great personality, super friendly, engaging, and honestly really funny. He kept everyone laughing and made the entire tasting feel relaxed and enjoyable. My friend and I did a moonshine tasting for $5 each and I believe there were 9 that we sampled (2 fruits, a few creams, and many moonshines). You greet one of the bartenders, line up at the bar, give them the funds and they hand you a tiny plastic cup. The staff were all personable and welcoming and made the tasting interactive and fun. D-Bo did a great job of explaining each moonshine and what you may be able to mix it with. He also knew the proofs of each. Our favorites were the pink lemonade and the moonshine-soaked fruits (pineapple and mandarins). The mandarins were a surprising hit, as I normally don't love mandarins, but they were sweet, juicy, and would be awesome in a mimosa. I reallly wish I had purchased these instead of the cherries, which I thought would be more versatile. Yes, this stuff is pricy ($27-30-ish per jar) but the nice thing is that they also give you a $5 off coupon if you do a tasting, which makes the tasting free if you end up purchasing anything. They also gave me a 10% discount as a Tennessee resident (yay). They seem to give some fun deals when you order multiples, too. Note that a little bit of this stuff goes a long way. I had come in to buy maybe 1-2 jars (there's a giant billboard in Pigeon Forge advertising the pickle moonshine with the pickles inside and as a lover of pickles, I was curious). Of course, after a number of shots of whiskey, bourbon, and moonshine, my judgement was impaired and my inhibitions were lowered and I bought 6 jars. :-) I did get one free, as well as a carrying case. I also got out safely before buying four more. Great environment...if I had had more time (and money) I might have wandered around the store even more. read more

It's an awesome spot in The Island Park. There were lots of different flavors that I could never have thought about. Some of the bartenders are more fun and entertaining than others. They offer two tasting options; $5 tasting or $8 for everything in the $5 package plus 3 extra premium drinks taste. My husband and I both went with the $8, and we got two $5 off coupons, which can be used on any merchandise you buy from the store. Coupons come with no expiration date. Moreover, you can use two discount coupons at the same time. About the tasting. Some of them are really really, I mean really, strong. Our bartender said if you don't want to taste, you can skip. But, I went all in lol well, why not, lol. Some of the drinks I liked and some of them were so-so. Overall, I had a good time. We also bought one of the jars, and got $10 discount. Unbeknownst to us, the formerly non-moonshine drinking quartet discovered we did, in fact, like moonshine, no doubt due to Sandy's fun-loving and knowledgeable presentation and generous pours. This is a fun spot to taste different flavors of moonshine. It's an open-air store with plenty of counter space. After paying $5 for a taste test (which is applied as a coupon if you buy anything in the store), Zach the bartender provided commentary that was entertaining and humorous. I must say that by the third pour, a lot of folks are smiling and pleasantly buzzed. Why, you might ask? First, be prepared to start with bang when you take a quick shot of 127-proof moonshine. Yikes! From there, it's much smoother sailing with an easy sour watermelon chaser (20 proof) and various flavored moonshines with candy-like sweetness or a mocha Java flavor (that's like a Starbucks Frappuccino). Most men enjoyed the amaretto whiskey (or salt caramel whiskey) a lot. If you're in Pigeon Forge, TN on "the strip", it's well worth a stop here at the Barn for an entertaining sample of moonshine. To reach the islands you'll park in the large lot which is about a 10 minute walk to the Island (or a 5 minute tram ride). It's behind the giant Ferris wheel across from the Paula Deen restaurant. Be sure to give yourself about 30-45 minutes for the experience, including deciding which bottle to bring home. Since I was going to be flying back home from Knoxville, TN, I decided to pick up a jar of apple pie moonshine (for my wife to enjoy). if you're here on vacation in a car, you can pickup a set of 3 products with a tiny cooler and free T-shirt. The whiskey bottles are heavy in weight. It's OK if you're driving home in a car, but less than ideal for stuffing into luggage for a flight home. read more

OMG so many flavors us Texans never see on the shelves! Bad news to this review is we had just eaten at Paula Deen's restaurant next door and was too full to try any tastings. GF has liked the Blackberry version for some time so that was an easy purchase. We also picked up a seasonal "Some Beach" with hints of coconut and cream. Limecello? Apple Pie and the loaded Cherry version. Add in his and hers shirts and allegedly "free swag" we were walking out with a 4 pack of Mountain 'Rita, 6 bottles of shine for the LOW LOW price of $217. Staff were great which is why I gave them the extra star. They were friendly and quick moving. If doing a tasting here wasn't a cheap buzz, I would have passed. Getting in to do the tasting is chaos. There's probably a full bar already with tasting, so you have to wait till that group is done and nudge your way to the bar... otherwise you'll miss your chance and have to wait again. You pay cash before they start the tasting or pay card after, so the whole process can take awhile. None of the moonshine flavors were really that good on the tasting besides for 1 or 2... I ended up walking by their downtown Gatlinburg location the following day after the experience here. If you want ole smoky, you aren't missing much by getting it straight from the store. read more
