We were skeptical about coming after reading a different review on Yelp that suggested the food wasn't authentic. Now that I've been, I have to say it tasted authentic to me, at least based on the food my table had. Crab fried rice was delicious. They gave generous portions of meat in all of the meat dishes. The crispy duck was actually crispy. The food was well seasoned and not too salty. I think they actually do make their Thai tea because my tea was in 2 layers when it was brought out (tea at the bottom and milk at the top) and I mixed it myself. Though the restaurant was busy, the servers did their best to attend to you and came back to refill waters. The place was clean. Sufficient parking. Unfortunately, we didn't try the tum yum, which is honestly the bar I judge every Thai restaurant by (I want to taste that galangal and kaffir leaf), next time. Took pictures after we chowed down this time. I do need to warn that their medium spicy level is actually spicy, which I enjoyed, but others may not. I do highly recommend if you are in the area and craving Thai. ----------- Update: went back and tried the Tom Yum. It was good, but was missing the "kick" and depth of sour flavor I prefer. Another tourist trap that is way overpriced, serves sub par food, and isn't up to my cleanliness standards. We love Thai food, and having lived in the Seattle area for a long time, have eaten our fair of excellent Thai food. This was amongst the worst I've had. I was suspicious as soon as we walked in regarding the quality and standards we might experience so we wisely shared one dish-Panang curry with beef. My husband also got a Singha beer. My husband-who will eat what I consider the cheapest of beef and love it- would not eat the beef in this dish. He said it had a strange taste and texture. I agreed that it was unusual and steered clear as well. Be careful, they add 18% gratuity to your bill, then ask for a tip when they give you their device. There's also outdoor seating but we didn't opt for that due to ducks roaming around outside. We went for lunch one day and came back for dinner another day making it two different experiences. The first day we they mentioned they're out of papaya salad so we opt for beef jerky, pad Thai chicken, tom yum beef fried rice, and a pork & crab dry noodles. We had an excellent meal at The Baht and I honestly don't understand how anyone could walk away disappointed. We started with the crispy tofu and the spicy pork balls, and both were fantastic. The tofu had great texture and real flavor, not an afterthought, and the pork balls had genuine heat and depth without being over the top. My husband ordered the Tom Kri soup with shrimp and it was, hands down, the best dish of lunch. Creamy coconut broth with mushrooms and pickled onions, deeply flavorful and perfectly balanced. I would come back just for that soup alone. For entrées, my daughter had the pad Thai, I had the Khao Soi, and my husband ordered the duck basil. All three were excellent. Bold, authentic flavors and generous portions. I saw a review claiming the portions are small and that could not be further from the truth. Portions are large. We took home leftovers. We had an overall nice dinner here. The restaurant has a great location right by the water. Our food came quickly after ordering. However, I did find the portions to be on the smaller compared to their price point. The dishes I enjoyed the most were their pad Thai and pad kee mao- we ordered both with shrimp, which they cooked perfectly. The most disappointing dish was their basil duck- the duck tasted quite dry and the entire dish was extremely salty. Even with the side of white rice it was overwhelmingly salty. We ordered an extra side of white rice and that was $5. The khao man Kai was quite good in terms of flavor, but it is very gingery and I thought the chicken itself was just ok. I would stick to ordering their fried rice or noodle dishes. Our servers were friendly and we got a kick out of their robot servers. Service is excellent and portions are huge. They charge 18% gratuity to all orders on the top. Firstly, it was odd that they put peas in it ... never seen that before. Other vegetables, yes, but peas are just a strange flavor in a panang (coconut-y) curry. Other than that, i would say it was a little too sweet and too thin (watery, instead of thick and creamy). But not bad. On the spiciness level, I asked for three stars (out of five), and I'd say it was slightly less spicy than I expected. I've spent 4 months in the last year and a half in Thailand because my fiancé lives there and for a brief moment I felt like I was back while eating here. The staff is so kind and friendly too. Aside from being in a major city (because I haven't tried enough Thai food in major cities to be certain) I'm convinced this is truly as close to authentic as the meals get. In terms of the area it is a bit more expensive compared to other Thai restaurants but I feel like that partially because it is in gatlinburg (not Sevierville or pigeon forge), the location in gatlinburg, and the focus on authentic. The tom kha soup was outstanding! The view is really calm and outdoorsy by the river too. The Baht is a gem on the peaceful side of Gatlinburg - a side that's tucked away that you may have not realized existed, but it does! I'm not a huge fan of the chaos of Gatlinburg nor all of the tourist food traps that come with it, but the Baht is the opposite of that. I'm very glad we didn't dine in now that I've read reviews about the automatic 18% gratuity regardless of party size. Seems like the restaurant inflates its Google reviews by offering free dessert, etc. The second time we did pickup they missed one dish in our order and we called to notify them. (They also got the proteins wrong on two dishes but we didn't bother notifying them) They said it would take 10 minutes so we drove back from home to the restaurant. We were then waiting at the restaurant for 30 more minutes. In total from initial order to having our complete order took 1.5 hours. The server later explained that the rice cooker was broken, but even after three hours in this restaurant, they couldn't resolve it. When the rice did eventually show up, it was still short by a bowl. On top of that, the servers were nowhere to be found most of the time. To make things worse, the food was overpriced and the portions were very small. I would give this place zero but it's not an option. There was no service as the robot did the work. Our waitress was was very inattentive and never refilled our drinks or asked how everything was. We had a party of 6 and were never asked if we wanted separate checks. I can only surmise that is because of the 18% gratuity they charge. Why put in the bare minimum effort when your tip is guaranteed. I do not recommend this tourist trap. Food was not worth the price or lazy service. This restaurant ruined my meal, my day, and my entire vacation. TLDR lies, deceit, and emotional damage. First, they completely forgot one of our dishes (we did takeout). Then they told us it'd be ready in 10min and to drive back. We got there 10min later and they hadn't even started cooking. Then we watched them cook NOT our dish for 30min while they told us they were currently cooking it. After what felt like hours, they cooked our dish in like 2 seconds, threw it in a box, and handed it to us. By the time we got back, the rest of our food was cold and sad. But we were the saddest of all. At least we got to watch their robots drop a couple of dishes. Hurt my ears tho from the noise. Food was ok. I asked for spicy but it was not.
