The shop is very small, and it is takeout only. I stopped by to try the sugar cane drinks. The people behind the counter were all really friendly. I got a mango drink and my friend got strawberry I think. We both thought the drinks were sweet, of course, and they were very refreshing.
Glad to find a sugarcane spot in Hayward. No need to drive to SJ or Oakland to grab some. Sugarmama is located near City Hall in downtown Hayward. The menu is still pretty short for now, but they mentioned they're working on expanding it. I ordered their grilled pork banh mi and it was really good. Packed with a generous amount of meat, the bread had that perfect texture (crunchy on the outside but soft and airy on the inside). Best part, it didn't hurt my upper gums (iykyk). For drinks, I got the baby jug of their OG sugarcane drink and also tried the strawberry sugarcane. Both were refreshing and super satisfying. Definitely planning to come back to try more of their drink flavors and other food items once the menu grows!
We tried the freshly pressed sugar cane drink, pork sandwich, and combination sandwich. The drink was refreshing and the sandwiches had plenty of filling and the baguette was tasty. We liked the pork sandwich best. We forgot to ask to have the sandwiches cut in half, and the sandwiches were large so next time we'll do that. The two ladies that helped us at the shop were friendly. There are stools that you can grab from inside to enjoy our lunch outside.
Still in soft opening but decided to stop by as it's near my hairdresser's spot. Small storefront and set up for take out only with a few plastic stools to sit on if you choose. Ordered at the counter and decided on a BBQ Pork Bahn mi and the mango sugarcane drink. Small bites not yet available during soft opening until they get set up a bit more. Vietnamese sandwich with nicely seasoned pork with hints of lemongrass, very thin spread of pate, spiciness from the jalapeno, crunch from the cucumber and marinated, julienne, pickled carrots and daikon (Đồ Chua) but no cilantro available. Personally, I could take it or leave it but it definitely changes the flavor of the sandwich without it. Sugarcane drink was refreshing but not my thing. Has a floral, almost grassy with honey taste to me...just a preference and will stick with their delicious sandwich and small bites in the future. Definitely give it a try to experience freshly pressed sugarcane! Service straightforward and quick. Price for sandwich ($8) and drink ($7). Reasonably priced for a Vietnamese sandwich these days. Plenty of street parking. Soft opening hours: Friday-Sunday (10am-3pm)

Served quickly, with courtesy. credit card only. Eats ready in 5ish minutes. Offerings (Vietnamese): Banh mi, mon nham( small Bites), Nuoc Mia( sugarcane juice, juices) Bites: Combo Banh Mi (8) -8" baquette overloaded with proteins: pork ham, head cheese ham. Crust was chewy not crunchy. Banh mi felt dry-pate & mayo not juicy enough. Veggies: jalepenos, cilantro, picked daikon & carrots shreds, cucumbers were fresh, not overwhelming. 4.5 stars Worthy! Quantity: more than others, great value! Quality: Ok. Needs tweaking. A diverse patronage, not just Asian Americans.
Nice little place downtown that offers vietnamese options! It's nice that they have different flavors of sugarcane and the lychee one I got had good flavor of both lychee and sugarcane. I was disappointed that my drink had all this foam on top so I didn't feel like I got a full drink especially when I noticed others did not have foam. The banh mi itself was lacking flavor overall. I felt there was way too many pickled carrots tipping the ratio too much in that flavor. The carrots also were in small pieces so that made it harder to eat since they were falling. I prefer longer thin pieces. Glad the sandwiches come with pate, though! The menu was different on the one near the register vs the wall. They made some changes but wish they made it more clear. They also didn't offer the appetizer bites that day.
I absolutely love having fresh sugar cane juice just around the corner from home. It's such a refreshing treat! What makes this spot even more exciting is the variety of bánh mì they offer--so many unique kinds that I haven't had the chance to try yet. I'm really looking forward to coming back soon, not only to explore their diverse bánh mì selection but also to sample their creative sugar cane juice blends. Stumbled upon this since it came up on my FYP during soft opening weekend. Great to see more options like Sugarmama pop up in Hayward! Sugarmama took over the spot that Marley's (a Filipino bakery) previously was at. It's still in soft opening phase, so be patient as they work through things, such as food since that is a new part of their business. We got the calamansi cane, Vietnamese coffee, and two banh mi (bbq pork and combo pork). The drinks were good, although I wish the cup size was a little bigger. The calamansi really came through and the sugarcane balanced well with it. My husband thought it was just ok and would've preferred having the sugarcane on its own. I was happy that the coffee was strong and not overly sweet. The banh mi were on the dry side - the bun was a little hard for my taste, and the bbq pork was a bit dry. It would have been nice if the meat was warm but everything was room temp. There could have been more veggies to balance out the ingredients, but I think it was a reasonable amount for the price. I'm not sure I would get it the banh mi again, but the drinks are definitely the star of this place. Overall the prices are very reasonable as everything is under $10. I would try their egg rolls next time but they weren't selling them today. You can see the cold pressing the sugarcane fresh at the front of the store.
It's been a while since we had banh mi so I thought I'll send my husband here to pick up lunch. We bought 4 combination banh mi and sugarcane juice with calamansi. When I took a bite into the banh mi, i thought the flavor was off. The sandwich itself lacked flavor but I couldn't figure out what the problem was, until i opened up the sandwich to take a look. Well, there was barely any mayo, the pate was the size of a teaspoon, the ham was missing (saw steamed pork roll instead), the "pickled" carrots and daikon did not have any tartness or flavor to it, and all of our sandwiches had more carrots with a few strands of daikon. The only thing I enjoyed was the sugarcane juice. It was slightly sweet with a hint of tartness.

OMG a sugarcane spot in Hayward?! This is so, so exciting since sugarcane shops are hard to come by . I only know of ones in San Jose and South SF. I ordered a mini jug of calamansi cane and it did not disappoint - super refreshing and the perfect amount of sweetness! They offer several other places at well but calamansi is by far my favorite wherever I go. I also ordered a combination banh mi (cold cuts) which was just okay. I think the whole thing overall could have been more flavorful and the bread could have had better texture, but I also have a very high standard for banh mi since we always get them in east side SJ. I would be willing to give the sandwiches another try once they are established, but I will definitely be back for the sugarcane soon!
It's a great spot in Hayward, a little hidden, but once you find it, you will be grateful you did. I recommend the passion fruit sugarcane juice, the calamansi sugarcane juice and the regular one, they all taste so good!! The service is also great.
This new business just took over a Filipino bakery, right down the street from Trams Coffee. It's a pleasure to see more Vietnamese businesses open up in Hayward! Originally came for the sandwich but the sugarcane was a big motivating factor to come here. They had a lot of options for sugarcane flavors, some I have not see combined together before like dragonfruit, mango or strawberry. My wife chose the calamansi, a nice tarty/citrus flavor. I enjoyed the citrus taste to the sweetness of the cane. The original was delicious and refreshing. They sell jugs in different sizes, such as a baby jug that was a nice amount. Sugarcane can't be stored for long so the baby jug is a good size to drink throughout the week or in 1 day, your choice. I ordered a bbq chicken, while my wife ordered the combination banh mi. They stuffed a ton of chicken in my sandwich, the chicken itself was flavorful with a lemon grass taste. It all went downhill from there because the toppings and chicken fell right out and made a mess. It was a messy banh mi, I think in part from the bread itself. It was a weak structured bread that can use more form. My wife's combination banh mi could use a little more flavor, it was stuffed with meat but lacked a little more umami like more liquid seasoning. Overall, we really enjoyed the drinks, something we would love to come back to get anytime. The banh mi needs more improvements for it to be comparable to San Jose type of places. I hope this business does well as we will be coming back!

Order: 1 BBQ Chicken Bánh Mì 1 Mango Cane Nước Mia Total: $16.09 The Bánh Mì was PHENOMENAL! The bread was so soft yet crunchy and flaky--I could tell it was extremely fresh. The BBQ chicken was very tender with no fat and cooked with delicious spices. Just incredible. The veggies were also very fresh and crunchy. With every bite it just kept getting better. It's a pretty big-sized Bánh Mì--you can easily eat half and save the other half for later. The mango cane drink was delicious and very refreshing. I enjoyed every sip of it. Food: 10/10. The service was excellent! The young ladies working there were very welcoming and sweet. One even grabbed me a stool to sit on while I waited for my order, which was very thoughtful. The wait was not long 5-10 minutes. Not many customer around 12pm on Friday. Customer service: 10/10. The ambiance is cute. It's located in the heart of downtown Hayward near City Hall. The establishment is tiny, but they do have stools where you can sit and enjoy your Bánh Mì it's almost like being in Vietnam. There's no outside seating. Parking can definitely be challenging. You can park in the Lucky's supermarket lot, across the street in the parking structure, or if you're lucky, find street parking right in front of the establishment. This might be my favorite Bánh Mì spot. I will definitely be coming back. I just hope one day their hours and days expand. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! read more

Really cute branding with friendly service, but can definitely improve on their banh mi quality. We ordered the Combination Banh Mi; price is $8 for any of their three banh mi options. The meat was cut ridiculously thick--thicker than I've ever seen or eaten before. I really didn't enjoy the head cheese; it really lacked flavor. There was also no pickled daikon in our sandwich. Disappointing experience overall ): I would return to try their sugarcane juice, but definitely will not be getting another sammie. read more
On my 1st visit: Calamansi sugar cane - it was okay. I feel like you can't really taste the sugar cane. I tried to order egg rolls but they said they didn't have it. It was unclear if it's sold out at 10am or if they no longer sell it. On my 2nd visit: I opted for just the original sugarcane (without additional pureee or other ingredients) it's not listed on my menu, so you just have to ask for it. It definitely tasted better than the calamansi sugarcane. Considering they were not busy at all, I expected this to be made fresh but they poured it directly from an open container from their refrigerator... Tried their banh mi this time, both the chicken and pork. Both tasted like quality meats. But the daikon and carrots were cut way too thick! Never seen such a thick cut of carrots. They need to julienne or even fine julienned cut them! I think if they were to make this change to the sandwich, I would be a happy return customer. read more

They're currently open Friday to Sunday until their grand opening on February 19. They have lots of sugarcane drink options and prices are very reasonable. The juice tastes fresh and natural, and you can see them press the sugarcane in front of you. Parking in front is limited since it's a one way street, but there's plenty of parking in the back near Lucky's. Seating is minimal right now with just a few stools, so hopefully they add more seating later. You can see the leftover sugarcane dropping behind the machine near the entrance with a trash bin, which can look a little untidy, but hopefully they improve the setup later. Overall, great drinks and worth a visit. I'll definitely come back. :) read more

Walked downtown Hayward and saw a cute little sugarcane juice shop and had to check it out. They are only doing a soft opening right now so they are only open on the weekends. I got a calamansi sugarcane drink this time. I didn't know what to expect in flavor, but this drink was so refreshing and fresh I had to slow myself in drinking it all in a couple of minutes. There are other flavors like dragon fruit sugarcane, mango sugarcane, passion fruit sugarcane and more. The snacks and bahn mi sounded good on the menu but this time I just went for the juice. The shop is small and only stools to sit. Parking is best at parking garage as there is limited parking in front of the shop. Wish there were more sizes in the drinks. Next time I will try another flavor and try the food! Hopefully they will open for the rest of the week. read more
I have been following Sugarmama since their early food festival days, and they have always provided simple yet freshly pressed sugarcane juice with all fruit purées. Every single one of their drinks are absolutely amazing and I will always keep looking forward to coming back for one of their refreshing drinks. Stopped by earlier today for the first day of their soft opening in downtown Hayward. We had tried them in the past at a food market event and remembered how refreshing their drinks were and wanted to support them on their new opening. When we walked in we could immediately see they had been making their sugarcane drinks fresh and we were greeted right away. We ordered their calamansi cane and mango cane to drink and decided to split a combination bahn mi. The drinks were very refreshing but I will say that I think citrusy fruits pair better with the sugarcane. So I'd recommend the calamansi before the mango. But the bahn mi was also delicious! Did not look like they skimped on the ingredients at all (no photo because we inhaled it). Overall I'm sure we'll be back a few more times and can't wait to keep supporting another downtown Hayward business. Sugar Mama is a pop up food stand that specializes in sugar cane juice. The sugar cane juice is pretty good as they even sport the unique calamansi flavor. However, it is expensive at $10 a cup. Even worse is that they have supply issues. At the food festival I was at, they were basically the only food vendor that ran out of its drinks at the halfway mark of the event. read more

Popular at many food festivals, this spot is a great addition to the downtown area! If you're on the go, grab a drink and a banh mi. The sugarcane is freshly squeezed with lots of flavors. My go to is the strawberry sugarcane! This time was feeling a coffee and cold cut banh mi. The coffee has that strong and sweet balance. I am so glad Sugar Mama opened in Hayward. It is nice to finally have sugar cane juice nearby without having to drive all the way to the South Bay. They have a great selection of drinks and the prices are pretty reasonable. The juice tastes fresh and clean, and it is easy to find a favorite. I am really looking forward to their grand opening for the small bites because the menu sounds promising. This spot is definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood. read more

Once I heard Sugarmama opened in my city, I couldn't wait to check it out. I love eating sugar cane on its own, so I was excited to finally try a drink made from it with different flavor mix-ins. We ordered the Passion Fruit Cane, and it was a solid 10/10, super refreshing, vibrant, and raw in the best way. The Dragonfruit flavor wasn't as strong as I expected, but I appreciate that everything is completely natural. I'm already looking forward to going back and trying the other flavors! read more

This place doesn't have a place to sit down. To go only. We had high hopes for the sandwiches but unfortunately both sandwiches fell short of expectations. The combo sandwich had way too much mayo and the bread was hard. The pork sandwich also had hard bread, but with all the fixings, there were parts that were soggy too (we ate the sandwiches within 12 minutes of picking them up). Initially it looked like there was a generous amount of pork but when you bite into the pork, a large portion (probably more than half) is fat. Picked out all the fat out of the sandwich to determine this. The pate was overwhelming on the pork sandwich. Would recommend eliminating the pate on the pork sandwich. Not sure if we'd go back again. If you go, make sure to ask for napkins. They do not automatically give them to you with your order. read more

Came too close to closing time and they were sold out of sugarcane. I was still able to get some goodies. The Che Thai had good flavor and not too sweet (which is the biggest Asian complement) . The DA Ua (Vietnamese yogurt) was super smooth and creamy, really brought me back to my childhood. I also had the Banh mi that nuong, forgot to snap a picture before demolishing it. The pork in the banh was well seasoned and super flavorful, great crunch from the veggies and bread. Highly recommend the pork banh mi. I will have to come early next time to try all the different flavored sugarcane next time. read more

I have been a fan of Sugarmama Sugarcane for the very start. I followed them during their food festival scenes. I am so excited now that they have a brick & mortar in Hayward. It's a great addition when exploring downtown. The sugarcane always remind me back whenever I visited Vietnam. It is refreshing and what's even better is that you can add flavors with your sugarcane such as calamansi and passion fruit. I can't wait when they have seasonal flavors because I miss the Honeydew Cane. That was my favorite. The Vietnamese snacks that they have also go well with the sugarcane so it's a double win. Anyone who likes sugarcane and Vietnamese cafe eatery must give this a try! read more
