I had the Thai fried rice at a spice level 3... eating this dish was the first time I've ever tasted flavor in a fried rice dish. A 10/10 flavor profile from a dish I usually steer clear of. The restaurant was lit very nicely; warm, moody lamps on each table and dimly lit overhead lighting ran through the entire place. Everything was clean and looked nice! We always make a point to visit this restaurant whenever we're in the Marigny, and I'm so glad we did again this weekend. From the start, the experience was excellent--we were seated right away, and our server came over promptly to get everything moving. Although the restaurant was busy, it was comfortable and not overly loud. As always, the food did not disappoint. I had a cup of Tom Kha soup with chicken, while my husband ordered the Tom Yum soup with chicken. Both were perfectly spicy and absolutely delicious. Wow. Based on the good reviews I was expecting better. Our server was off from the first. She offered specials then checked while she was telling us what they were. I didn't know if she was new or uninformed. We also ordered drink specials which we never got. At the end of our meal I saw the bartender finally start to make our drinks and asked her to stop. It wasn't busy. Not sure what happened. We ordered egg rolls and green curry with Scallops and brown rice. The cook came out of the kitchen to say they were out of brown rice. We were served anemic egg rolls with no crunch, bland and somehow raw. The curry was oddly aromatic and again bland. Although the cook did deliver a half bowl of brown rice. While a group of us were in town from Chicago, we needed a break from local food and this place did not disappoint! 6 of us all have different spice levels too so it was nice when the waiter asked us individually a number between 1-5 and described them too. I have the lowest spice tolerance so I said mild/1 and it was spot on. Lychee martini had the right amount of sweetness. The chicken pad thai is a classic dish which was authentic and fresh. As a local, this is my favorite place to grab food after a long day. The atmosphere is perfect, it never feels overly crowded or loud during the day, and at night with the lowered lights, it feels romantic. The staff is top notch, we always feel taken care of and like little celebrities. Shoutout to Meg for making us feel like family and Michael for helping us practice our french. My favorite entree is the Eggplant Lover (meat eaters, this comes with meat! don't not order it because it has eggplant in the title, you're sleeping on a gem!) I have been on a mission to try every Thai place in the city and this unfortunately was my least favorite so far. It does have a lot going for it though as I gave it 3 stars. I just didn't love the food. I got the special and it was the pineapple fried noodles. The shrimp was a good size but I just didn't enjoy the flavoring in this dish. I would be willing to come back to try a different dish though. I will tell you what I loved now. We had one of the most enjoyable waiters I have had in a while. He was professional while still making some. I wish I could remember his name; I remember the tattoos and the fun socks he wore. I also loved the tea. I would probably be back to try all the different teas they offer here and at a great price too. I enjoyed the ambience as well. The umbrella decor and the space is bright and open with lots of beautiful natural light. Overall, it was aesthetically pleasing. They also have a very good happy hour M-F that lasts till 7. I love Sukhothai. We have been to both locations. Our most recent visit was to the location on Royal. Didn't need reservations but still had nice vibes with people eating dinner on a thursday night. Our server was really sweet. We ordered the halloween cocktail specials they were running (1.75 for a martini is a steal.) We also ordered two appetizers, the dumplings with shrimp and crab and the veggie rolls. Both apps came before our drinks did, which wasn't a big deal, just kind of unusual. However, they were both very tasty. We also got the drunken noodles and the garlic beef as entrees. These were soooo tasty. My only complaint was I wish the beef was a little hotter temperature wise. The flavor and taste was so good. They give you an option of spice range 1-5. We did 2 on both which had a nice kick but nothing crazy. A good classic reliable thai spot. read more

This is the most AUTHENTIC Thai in the greater New Orleans area! I highly recommend the BETEL LEAF APPETIZER. The wok mei on the DRUKEN NOODLES is as authentic as the street food in Bangkok and the BEEF MASSAMAN is TDF! My cousin is Vegan and they also have a plethora of options for him! The atmosphere of the uptown locations is wonderful. The sun room is great for business / day lunches and dimly lit at night for a romantic date night with your love. My friends and I love local Thai restaurants and search for the best when we travel for work conferences. We were definitely happy with our choice for New Orleans. For my vegan/vegetarian friends, they have a really good selection of menu items, not just 1 or 2 entrees or appetizer options. We always order a bunch of appetizers and split them so we ordered roti with peanut sauce (or curry sauce), veggie tempura with tamarind sauce, chicken satay skewers with peanut sauce, and crispy tofu with sweet chili sauce and crushed peanuts. OMG!! The tofu triangles were battered and fried and the inside was soft and creamy and had a delicious crispy exterior. Way better than flash fried tofu you see at other restaurants (they all call it "crispy" or "fried" tofu but those are always chewy and not crispy. The veggie tempura had broccoli, carrot sticks, onion rings and zucchini spears- a good variety of vegetables! Their roti reminded me of the scallion pancakes without the onions so they were chewy and flavorful and perfect to dip into the peanut sauce. I ordered the chicken pad thai and it was stuffed with pieces of white meat chicken and very tasty. We split their dragons puffs (their version of beignets) which were basically triangles of sopapillas drizzled with honey and topped with fresh berries. Super tasty and light! read more

My wife and I visited this place a few times several years ago and she had been talking about it ever since, so this week we finally went back. There is one specific dish here that is over the top delicious: the herbal garden whole fish. It's a perfectly fried redfish/snapper with a spectacular sauce with various herbs, onions, and nuts. Slim pickin's for good Thai food that delivers, I get that. SukhoThai was one of the better ones, but my latest orders haven't been great, and my last order compelled me to review. In the most recent order, we asked for Drunken Noodles and Pad Kee Mao. Veggies were overcooked, there was not a single basil leaf in sight, and noodles were pure mush, not a single noodle in tact. Sweet soy sauce mush was what we received. In past orders, we received Eggplant Lover with barely any eggplant, sticky rice mango with undercooked rice and no condensed milk, dry meat with fried rice...just to name a few grievances. I don't expect to love every dish from any establishment, so I gave those a pass. I've ordered from here a lot through the years, and we had some decent dishes. Date night worthy! We were attending an event nearby so we decided to dine somewhere near the event. Small, quaint, and inviting. When we arrived the hostess wasn't very welcoming. She showed no real emotion or really greeted us but she was saved by what ended up being our waiter, who was much more pleasant. We were seated by the window facing Elysian Fields which was great for people watching. I had a glass of house Cabernet which was excellent (can't remember the brand) and we had the soft shell crab for an appetizer. The food came out quickly, was perfectly seasoned and spiced, though my significant other preferred a tad bit more heat to his. Overall we had a great experience and will be back, though I'd love to try the Magazine Street location. We had a reservation, however it wasn't very busy. It's a small location so I'd imagine it getting busier as it gets later as we dined at 5 pm on a Friday. There were several people coming in for take out orders. Absolutely delicious food and great service! Sukho Thai on Royal St is a hidden gem. We stopped by in November 2023 on our third day in New Orleans after trying most of local cuisine dishes. The food was absolutely delicious! Perhaps the best Thai food we ever tasted. Flavorful, rich, perfectly done, with heat level exactly as ordered on a scale of 1 to 5. The menu was so big that we had hard time choosing as many dishes looked equally appealing. We settled on Tom Kha Gai soup and Ahi Katsu for appetizers and Salmon Pineapple Curry and Green Curry with Scallops for mains. The soup was one of the best Tom Khas we had and both mains were amazing like out of this world. The service was top notch as well. Our server Tasheika was very friendly, attentive, and helpful choosing dishes and the heat level of the food. We felt warm, comfortable and really enjoyed our dinner. Thank you!
