    Budsi's noodles with chicken
    Amber W.

I love Thai food and was happy to find another restaurant in the city to add to my list. Everything is pretty affordable and it didn't take long for our food to arrive to the table. I had the Budsi's noodles with chicken but I can't wait try more things on the menu. It's located in a neighborhood so there's street parking only. There's also a full bar inside.

Wow. Just wow. This is not a typical Americanized Thai Restaurant. Some dishes have a more North Eastern flair. First, there is neighborhood parking, so that was nice for NOLA. It had a clean, but simple flair. We ordered Thai Green Tea and Thai Tea. I ordered a lunch special of Pad Ka Prao with Beef. It was a smaller portion, and still more than I would eat. We had fish cakes from the appetizers. It didn't sound too good to me, but hubby was excited, and I really liked them! Hubs ordered Spicy Somtam Papaya Salad with Grilled Pork Shoulder and Sticky Rice. He ordered it Isaan style which has fermented fish sauce. We were warned ahead of time that it didn't appeal to everyone. He loved it. His love for hot made it where I did not try it. I would say this dish is more for the more adventurous pallet. We would 10/10 recommend and would return.

This place is wonderful!! By far my favorite Thai place in NOLA. Everything is so affordable and delicious :D Pictured below is the chicken pad thai (left), tofu pad see ew (right), and tofu khao soi (middle). We also had the delicious mango sticky rice with perfectly ripe mango! Definitely a great place to go if you're looking casual but delicious vibe :)

My dining companion had take-away from here before and recommended we give it a try. The place was very busy, but the wait was only maybe twenty minutes. We ordered the shrimp Drunken Noodles and the shrimp Tom Yum soup. Both were very good--would order again. While the Drunken Noodles were a different type of noodle than I've had a number of other times, having an open mind found me devouring them. With no appetizers, we still ended up taking leftovers home. So good!

    You order and then sit.

Best Thai, no contest, in NOLA and probably even Louisiana. I enjoyed a well made Thai Tea and perfectly made shrimp drunken noodles. The flavor was incredible. My group shared the fried dumplings (I could have eaten about twenty more.) It was extremely packed due to the parade close by but they sped through the line, service was top tier, and the food came quicker than some of the red lines down here. They have a beautiful bar and apparently great drinks. Great vibes, I can't wait to visit again.

Great spot for Thai! Diverse options on the menu. Of course had to try the pad Thai for good measure. Enjoyed some gyoza for apps--was just "okay." Would definitely come back to try more items! Thai tea also classic and a must order wherever we get Thai. The beef dish was also fantastic and flavor packed, will definitely order again. Cute space inside. Service was good, we sat at the bar.

Budsi's live up to their name because this is authentic Thai cuisine. I have extended Lao & Thai friends/family, so I'm very aware of what flavors & dishes are traditional. The ambiance is always friendly; it's family oriented, it's perfect for date night, or if you're basically craving authentic Thai food. There's a bar, I love the fact that you can see the staff and cooks preparing & cooking your food. When you're ordering go to the register, I love that approach because you learn so much about what's best for your palate. I have a few favorite Thai restaurants & this one is at the top of my lost. Top-tier food & service.

I ordered the Budsi noodles mild with chicken. Very flavorful. The food always comes out fast. Staff is always friendly. I haven't been to many Thai places, but I'm sure this one is tops on most people's list!

Unexpected and outstanding. Not really a restaurant, not really a bar, somewhere in between.

This is a fun casual place great place to stop for lunch. They have a full bar as well as a large menu. We have a great lunch special for $10 and quick service is good for large groups because everyone can pay individually when you first come in and then you seat yourself.

As a regular at Budsi's I am always honored to write a 5 star review. The consistency with this place is truly unmatched. The frills are minimal but I can nearly guarantee that I'll have an excellent culinary experience every single time. Thai food is absolutely my go-to and when I don't wanna chance it, I just go to Budsi's. The Khao Soi still remains my favorite and then of course the pumpkin curry which is available all year round. The flavors don't fail.

This is my go to Thai place one in New Orleans. The Thai tea martini is absolutely to die for. Watch out those things will sneak up on you if you think you're just drinking a normal Thai tea. The pad Thai is consistently good. I normally get shrimp. This place can get busy so sometimes there is a wait in line But the bar is first come first serve. Service is relatively fast and good. I feel looking for Thai food while in New Orleans I do recommend this place.

I thought we were going to another place when one of my guests suggested Thaihey across the street from the fire station on Decatur. Yes, sure. It's a typical Quarter restaurant with its long gallery seating. We were seated right away. The menu appeared to be heavily vegetarian which was great for my two friends. Many will understand the limited menu options for vegetarians at most places. Wes ordered Tom Kai, Becky the Massaman Jackfruit option and I the one with short rib. It was delicious. It was warm and comforting, full of flavor and the chef made it less spicy for me. What a delight to choose a menu option that I have never had and restaurant that I have never been to. You believe that I'll return for certain. Especially for that gorgeous Mai Tai!

Though pop-up showers were still lingering, my husband and I decided to take a gamble on courtyard dining--and I am so glad we did! Sheltered under the green umbrellas surrounded by historic brick walls, lush greenery, and rain-kissed citrus trees, the atmosphere was incredibly romantic and peaceful. The courtyard's intimate layout even brought a bit of extra magic to our evening. We sat near another wonderful couple (and their adorable daughter) and became fast friends, sharing laughs and conversation throughout the night. What truly anchored the experience, though, was the incredible service. The staff was remarkably personable, helpful, and welcoming. The dinner itself was excellent from start to finish, showcasing immense culinary skill across every dish. We started with the delicious brussels sprouts and a uniquely seasoned spring/summer gumbo that was unlike any version we've had before (oh, what I would give for the recipe). As for the entrées, the shrimp and grits were phenomenal, and the blackened catfish sandwich with a fresh salad was executed flawlessly...and the bread pudding was fantastic, too! It is rare to find an experience where top-tier hospitality, a breathtaking environment, and great food come together so (seemingly) effortlessly. Café Amélie is an absolute must-visit! The host was extremely welcoming and friendly. Our server and helpers were over quickly to drop off waters and greet us. I ended up ordered the salmon. With it being so early and only one or 2 other tables besides my friend and me, the food did take longer to come out than I expected it to. Both of us did thoroughly enjoy what we got. The salmon was crispy on the outside with a nice sauce over it. We thought we'd have time to get dessert so we ordered a couple but that too took a very long time. We finally waved down our server to cancel and get the check since we had to be somewhere and he apologized and said their WiFi was going in and out so it could be that it was registering on the kitchen side. That may have explained why our entrees took too long. If it wasn't for the service and the food being great - I would not be thrilled about timing. We got there around 5:30p and had to leave by 7:15p so an almost 2 hours experience that probably could have been 1 hour.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure if I agree with the current ratings of 4.7 this place has (as of Feb 2,…read more2025.) To me, based on our experience tonight, it's none other than a super over-hyped sushi restaurant that only has a high end feel to it. Service: was decent. We arrived at the place 11 minutes before our reservation time of 5pm. Since my daughter works in the restaurant industry, as a politeness, we didn't go inside until 4:59pm even though one of the workers came to the door and unlocked it at 4:51pm. Once inside he knew we were the 5pm reservation. He was polite but somehow his whole demeanor lacked friendliness. Menu: Even though the drink menu was an actual physical one, the food menu is online. How strange. After scanning the QR code, we were hoping to see a good selection of food items. But to our surprise, the food menu is/was very small. Actually this place's main thing is nothing but "omakase" where if you choose to order from the a la cart section, the choices are so limited (we were here in town from Denver, CO. After eating some deep-fried stuff for the last few days, we felt that we were truly healthy food or salad depleted; just to clarify, we didn't show up to to this restaurant just to eat salad because after all, this is a sushi restaurant. We love sushi. And yet we were hoping for some decently sized salad. Unfortunately none is/was found on the menu. I even personally asked the guy to see if the sushi chef could whip up something but he gave me a nonchalant no.) We still believed this place could do some magical things so we ordered a bowl of miso soup, oyster tarter (lobster tarter replacement), tuna, salmon and yellowtail nigiris. Miso soup, for the price of $10, was extremely small. Also the entire soup was lukewarm to a point where the center of the small tofu pieces was still cold. Ugh... All the nirigis tasted fresh but I didn't care for the sweet sauce (mainly used for unagi/eel) on the salmon nigiri. Why?? I've never had a salmon nigiri prepared this way.) The only item that was impressive was the oyster tarter (not on the menu as this was the replacement item for the lobster tarter.) This was excellent where we could have easily ordered another one but at this point, we didn't want to spend anymore $$ as all items on the menu are not cheap here. We are a fan of yuzu. The only dessert item (once again, there is only one dessert on the menu) is yuzu tart or something like that. One of the sushi chefs informed us though that the online menu hadn't been quite updated for this so he said it would be a yuzu sponge cake type thing. We decided to give it a try. This, however, failed to impress us either as it was a very much average sponge cake, nothing more at all. We didn't order any drinks besides the water so the final bill was about $75 with some change. Well, tonight's overall experience of ours didn't justify this amount in any way possible. There was another sushi restaurant that had the similar ratings with similar location (when we searched it yesterday.) Maybe we should have chosen that one instead. Disappointed....

We started with cocktails which had fun twists in flavor. We ordered the Omakase and upgrade one fish dish to the Wagu beef ($50). I dug in, forgetting to take a photo. Each dish was beautifully presented and tasty, including some unique ingredients like ginger imported from Japan. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough. If the chef is reading reviews... switch the miso soup with a mini-ramen to give the meal more substance.

Rather than pursuing a burger, I decided to try this well regarded Chinese restaurant across the street from my hotel. This review is based on one item I got for takeout: Szechuan Beef. I am never one to equate quantity with quality. I'm also not well-versed in authentic Chinese. I'm mostly familiar with American Chinese. I ordered Szechuan beef expecting a dry stir fry of beef strips tossed with dried Szechuan peppers. Instead I got a 1 quart container with a zesty, moderately spicy broth loaded with tender strips of melt-in-your-mouth beef. This was pure heaven, and was an explosion of tangy flavor. The quart could've easily served a family of 4. That would just require another side of rice. This was just outstanding! The restaurant was compact yet inviting and service was great. When the bill arrived, I noticed I had been charged extra for the broccoli and also charged for shrimp--even though shrimp was already the protein included in the menu item I ordered. I politely questioned the charge, and the explanation I received didn't seem to match what was stated on the menu. I then asked to speak with a manager so the issue could be addressed. After quite a bit of discussion in the kitchen, the server returned, but instead of a manager coming out, I was given essentially the same explanation we had already discussed. I calmly explained why the charges didn't make sense and expressed that I was unhappy with how the situation was being handled. Unfortunately, there seemed to be little interest in resolving the concern or retaining my business. The food is fine, but my advice is to carefully review your bill before paying. Based on my experience, management does not appear particularly concerned when customers raise billing issues.

We initially had dinner plans for elsewhere, but plans changed and we had to pivot. How bad could Gumbo Shop be? As it turns out, we could have eaten just about anywhere else in the French Quarter and had better food and better service. The waitress started off nice enough. She rattled off the daily specials, and my dining companions and I immediately perked up when she mentioned a gumbo "flight." We enthusiastically interrupted her with multiple "YES!" responses to make it very clear we wanted it. Apparently that still wasn't enough confirmation, because our drinks arrived, then our appetizer salads, and eventually we had to ask what happened to the gumbo flight. Her response: "Oh, did you want that?" Our table had bread plates and butter, but no bread. We observed that other tables had bread, so we asked, and only then did the waitress bring us bread. However, the bread wasn't worth the wait: just an untoasted po'boy roll with no filling, flavor, or effort. We had all ordered the Complete Creole Dinner fixed-price menu. The two others chose the combination platter with shrimp creole, red beans and rice, and jambalaya, but the plates were plunked down without explanation or description. The shrimp creole was overwhelmingly tomato-heavy, the red beans were fine, and the jambalaya was forgettable. I ordered the crawfish étouffée, which was another one of the fixed-price menu options. The plates themselves arrived piping hot, but the food was only lukewarm, which strongly suggested the dishes had been microwaved before serving. Side dishes were also forgotten until we asked about them when we were nearly finished with our main courses. At this point, the gumbo flight finally appeared. There must be giant vats of gumbo in the kitchen, so there is no excuse for such a long delay to ladle out a few small cups. Again, the waitress didn't identify the gumbos when she plunked them down, and sadly, they weren't worth the wait. The chicken-andouille gumbo tasted overly salty and slightly burnt, while the seafood gumbo had a pungent quality that screamed "not fresh." It's pretty unforgivable for a restaurant called Gumbo Shop to serve such disappointing gumbo. Then came dessert. Two people at the table received bread pudding, but mine never arrived. When I finally flagged down the waitress to ask about it, she told me that I didn't get dessert because I hadn't ordered the fixed-price menu. Gaslight much? I reminded her that the crawfish étouffée was one of the options on the fixed price menu, and only then did the light bulb go on. We all witnessed the waitress writing down our orders, and there was no shortage of wait staff. We counted at least eight people going back and forth that night. How did we end up with this dumpster fire of an experience?
