Woman owned, black owned Bahamian restaurant in St. Roch Market. Both owners were very nice and personable helping us with entree selection. My husband had the honey jerk wings with macaroni, peas and rice and potato salad and everything was great. I had the jerk shrimp tacos with junkanoo rice and plantains and I enjoyed my meal too! The tacos had jalapeños which ill hold next time as it had enough spice on it own. We also had the mango lemonade which was very refreshing. I want to come back and try the lobster and salmon.

Omg. I haven't been to St. Roch market in a while and was sooo happy we went back. We went on a Sunday, so it was pretty chill, small crowd. We ordered the jerk salmon tacos and an order of the jerk veggies tacos. Absolutely amazing! Seasoned to perfection. The jerk sour cream was also A1. Our server/ cashier/ cook was also very friendly and welcoming. Will def be back!

So happy I found this place! If you want authentic Caribbean food at a reasonable price come here. Located near the front of St. Roch Mark is this island-inspired gem. The space was open, welcoming, and inviting. It wasn't overcrowded which added to the ambiance and feel of the environment. I met up here with a good friend who was back home for a quick visit. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was fresh, well seasoned, and the portioning was sufficient. Overall, a great experience for sure. On another note, my Jamaican wife has been less than impressed with the Jamaican cuisine down here thus far; I can confidently say I know she will like this; I can't wait to take her here! TLDR: 10/10; bring a friend.

I appreciate a chef trying something new, even if it's not quite there yet. I spoke with her after the fact about her Fritts creation, which was a seafood infused Belgian waffle. I got the "seafood" option over conch. They wound up replacing crawfish with lobster. This is finger food, as I learned. The chef told me she'd been experimenting with waffles rather than having it be a deep fried pastry as back on the island, as it was healthier. I suggested having a sweet dipping sauce along with the savory one. The lemonade was excellent. I got three or four complementary flavors. Service did take a while - a function of this being made fresh. Ambiance - not fancy. Inside a food hall. The chairs were reasonably comfortable though.

Fried plantains were excellent. $4 for four small ones seems about right. Came after about 12 minutes. Nice and hot. The problem was the conch fritters. They took 39 minutes to deliver so the plantains were long gone. They were not busy. I was sitting outside so I had to go in twice to check. Glad I wasn't in a hurry. They were ok. It not worth the wait.

The chef has wonderfully hands, head, and heart! We got the Junkanoo rice and salmon which was amazing and perfectly seasoned but I started with dessert first! The cake made my eyes roll back. I'm looking forward to getting my Junkanoo rice and salmon and 2 cakes next time .

I'm really going to stop listening to TikTok. I was exciting to try this place because of all the good reviews, but I was highly disappointed. The tacos were definitely something I could have made at home and have made at home. I don't even recall tasting a shrimp on my taco they are filled with cheese and toppings. There was no clear distinction between the chicken tacos and the shrimp ones they tasted exactly the same. The salsa on my tacos wasn't fresh salsa for the price point it should've been actual mango salsa and I wasn't getting any heat from the jalapeños looking back it wasn't really any there. Like the salsa taste was so familiar . The first thing that came to my mind was the good and gather salsa from Target, that's exactly what it looked like and tasted like. The Mac n cheese was horrible and hard. I would say how do you mess up mac n cheese but they managed to do it. The plantains were okay. Mind you it was an extra $10 for that Mac n cheese and plantains and I wasn't expecting the portion sizes to be this pitiful for an extra $10. It's a rip off. Another pet peeve of mine is this trend of saying fresh/all natural lemonade and they add those artificial syrups. When I ask for Passion Fruit lemonade I'm expecting to see bits of the fruit and taste the tang of it. This was nowhere near worth almost $60 including tip. I'm really saddened and hurt that I wasted my hard earned money and was served dissatisfaction and disappointment on a plate. Was the presentation nice? Yes, but everything that's pretty isn't good. These TikTok reviewers aren't being honest at all. I should have tried this other spot in the food hall I looked at first. The young lady at the register was nice and I really like the layout and vibe in the St. Roche. Will I go back to this particular restaurant no I won't but I will try another restaurants in St. Roche.

Highlight meal of our trip! Another patron came over to us and excitedly recommended this place stating the food was fantastic. He could not have been more right! My husband had a conch taco and a jerk shrimp taco, plantain and mac and cheese. Everything was hot and fresh. The food was actually beautiful to the eye. His favorite was the conch which he said had a tropical fruity taste. The owner was so nice. You can tell she takes pride in taking care of her customers. The meal also came with a strawberry lemonade which was pretty darn tasty too.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Junkanoo Cafe and their jerk shrimp over coconut grits with sweet fried plantains was nothing short of extraordinary. The jerk shrimp were perfectly seasoned--smoky, spicy, and packed with flavor--each bite bursting with tasty goodness. Paired with creamy, slightly sweet coconut grits, the dish struck a beautiful balance between heat and richness. And those plantains? Golden, caramelized, and just the right amount of sweet to tie everything together. It's comfort food elevated to an art form. We were looking for something that would be fun and different to support the memorialization of my grandmother, a local to the area and the warmth of the service couple with the food struck the perfect note! This culinary hug was a perfect way to conclude this trip in memory of my grandmother. Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates and loves food!

AMAZING!!! This was the BEST taco I've had in a long time. The entire plate was delicious! The Spanish rice had a nice little kick of spice. I thought I would want to eat desert but the plantains satisfied that craving. The mango lemonade was perfect! Also, the Chef and her team were very nice and super friendly. I'm definitely going back!!! Oh, and it was a beautiful sunny day so I sat outside.

So I ordered the oxtail quesadilla thinking, "How wild can this be?" ... Let me tell you, it was like a Mexican grandma and a Caribbean auntie teamed up in the kitchen. The oxtail was so tender it basically signed a lease with the cheese and moved into the tortilla. Every bite had me questioning why I ever settled for chicken. The power was out at my house, so I decided to spend some time at St. Roch Market. I hadn't been in a while and noticed Junkaroo, a Caribbean spot I hadn't seen before. I struck up a conversation with the chef and asked a simple question: "What's conch?" She didn't just answer--she taught. She explained what conch is, how she prepares it, and shared her personal cooking process with genuine passion. That kind of hospitality makes a lasting impression. You can tell she really cares about the food and the story behind it. I tried the cracked conch and it was absolutely worth it. Crispy outside, tender, and flavorful inside, with a dipping sauce that tied it all together. If you find yourself at St. Roch, make time for Junkaroo. Got to experience some nostalgia talking about the Bahamas and Bahamian food with the owner. I spent every summer there growing up with my grandparents and Greek Bahamian cousins. Unfortunately she was out of some of the menu cause a group of Bahamians found her the day before and cleaned her out. I got some conch frittas and they were delicious. Rich and spicy with a great dipping sauce. I was talking about how much I miss conch salad and how it's hard to find fresh conch anywhere near here. She said she just so happened to be making conch salad for Mardi Gras. So rest assured I will be back and early so I don't miss out. read more

I'm so very confused as to why this restaurant has so many stars. The food was terrible. We ordered jerk chicken and it came out in little cubes that resembled salmon bites. The chicken was tough and chewy. Let me not forget the owner stated they ran out of chicken after serving us and gave us some baby shrimp to replace the missed shrimp. The shrimp were sour, I could not stomach it. The Mac n cheese lacked flavor and the plantains were old and dry. This is after waiting 20 min for food. I'll never come back. read more

Junkanoo is the Bahamian Carnival and this place is a perfect fit for New Orleans and the St. Roch Market. Seafood frittas, adapted into waffles for the location, are crunchy on the outside and stuffed with multiple layers of seafood. The spice is on point. I love the Bahamian Mac & Cheese and plantains for sides, but can't go wrong with the rice and peas either. I also love the oxtail quesadillas, when they run them, and the jerk chicken any way it's served. Service is to-order, so grab a drink and enjoy the vibes at the market. It can be a little loud because of the acoustics. Check to see what D has in the cooler for a sweet tooth as well! read more

OMG!!! AMAZING!!! 1st the service is exceptional. The owner is so sweet. THE FOOOOOODD!!!! Flavorful, hot I had the Conch (for the first time) taco and the jerk taco. 6 inch tacos both had topping to complement the different tacos. My husband had the jerk wings with rice and peas and mac and cheese. The wings were sooo tender spicy and sweet, imagine a spicy mango flavor . Mac and cheesy - rice and peas are not favor butttt. These change my mind. The passion fruit lemonade yummmmy...wish she could have added some rum. I have been to St Rich market several time since they have opened. Junkanoo Cafe is the best vendor thus far!!! Sorry no picture the food was too good for all that. read more

Delicious jerk chicken tacos and potato salad. Got them spicy and should have asked for extra spicy. But the chef gave me some extra hot sauce. Tasty morsels of breast meat, mixed greens, topped with mango, onions, japaleno, and a sprinkle of cheese. And they took care of me. Thank you!! OMG!!!!!! I went yesterday day to meet some friends there and the food left me speechless. It was so so good. The owners and cooks were so gracious. Really wonderful food, the owner introduced us to conch, which our family had never tried, and we all loved it! I was especially appreciative that she shared a special sweet treat at the end with our kiddos. A kind heart and wonderful flavors. We ordered from our office, we ordered at 11am, received our food at 1:54PM, Potato Salad wasn't on the plate as advertised, chicken was spicy and salty, Macaroni and Cheese was burned black on top, food was not good at all. Oxtails were shredded like Chicken with no rice for the stew and they were burned. Ox Tail and SalmonTacos were crunched up on the plate. Now our stomachs are upset. read more

This was my first time to NOLA, and I stumbled on the Junkanoo Cafe while looking for an easy dinner. We ordered the jerk chicken tacos and the honey jerk wings. I had a feeling it was going to be good, but when it arrived, I was completely blown away by the flavors. The sauces had a little sweetness, there was lettuce and pickled jalapenos on top which perfectly were perfectly balanced by toasted tortillas with melted cheese on the bottom. These were the best tacos I have ever eaten in my entire life, and it was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I was only going to eat two tacos (one of each), but the flavor was so divine, that I knew I needed to take advantage of this opportunity to eat one of the best things I've ever tasted. I'm very full now, writing this review, but I have no regrets. To add to this, the woman who runs this establishment has a completely delightful personality. Highly recommend. All the stars. We found all the things at Luzianne Cafe. Whether you belly up to the bar or grab a table, both of which are first come first serve, you start at the counter where you order, pay and grab your table number. It appears that during busy times they allow you to sit first and order from the QR at your table, this is an assumption given the code to order at the table, but the sign at the entry directed folks to the counter to order before sitting. For breakfast, we got the breakfast biscuit which came with eggs, bacon and cheese, and sided it with grits. The breakfast sandwich was solid, eggs were a bit soft and grits were more mealy than we are used to, but I think that may be authenticity of the area more than anything. I opted for the three option omelet with onion, sausage and gouda plus a side of sausage links. The omelet, though odd sounding combination turned out to be solid. Maybe it was my options, but it was decently "one note" in flavor. I tossed a little hot sauce on and that helped. However, while the sausage links were not much to look at, they were tasty, with a nice snap to the casing and meaty inside. To go with our breakfast, I got a cold brew with a splash of almond milk while my partner embraced NOLA and started his day with a bourbon sour. Both of us enjoyed our choices! I was told not to order gumbo at Deanie's because it's too "salty". I decided to be spontaneous this afternoon and grab lunch to geaux. My shrimp remaulade wedge was amazing-fresh ingredients and great homemade remoulade dressing. Unfortunately, the gumbo did indeed have way too much salt in it. So much, I couldn't eat more than a couple of spoonfuls. I love gumbo- but I do NOT recommend getting it at Deanie's unless you love the taste of salt. I prefer it seasoned, but not salty. The flavors were bold, balanced, and unforgettable. Served on fresh, crispy bolillo bread, every bite had the perfect combination of crunch, heat, and tender smoky goodness. The quality of the ingredients and attention to detail are obvious from the first bite. Cochon Butcher has earned its reputation, and after trying this sandwich, I completely understand why. Whether you're a local or just visiting New Orleans, this place deserves a spot at the top of your must-visit list. I liked the place but don't see myself returning as nothing wowed me.
