One of the best Thai spots in the city. We do takeout mainly due to parking issues in the FQ. If you are a tourist, this is not a problem.

I'm a vegetarian (no eggs), I don't eat onions or mushrooms too 1. We ordered the vegetarian dumplings (fried and steamed) - we loved the dumplings They were soooooo good 2. Pad Thai Noodle - we loved this so much and they accommodated our needs of no onion and mushroom in all the dishes 3. Spicy Thai Fried Rice - was god too 4. Spicy Szechuan Hot Wok - this was my favourite 5. Coconut Soup with Tofu was so good Overall our experience was great. I'm not sure why did this restaurant have an option of either we can only have veggies or only tofu? I mean I have never seen it. Veggies are in the dishes regardless and the choice of protein is what is optional so that is something which I was not happy with honestly. December 10th 2024 went to zhang's bistro here in New Orleans. Incredible ambience with beautiful settings and Oriental decoration. The $22 spicy Szechuan Hot wok with shrimp came with garlic, onion, bell peppers, cauliflower, and jalapeno. Large serving size to match its price. A bit on the greasy side but the dish was delicious nevertheless. The $19 Mongolian beef came with white onion, green onions and garlic and went well with the white rice and extra plate a mixed of vegetables. Would order again This was one of the most beautiful Chinese restaurants that I have ever been to and definitely the most attractive restaurant in New Orleans. My only regret is that we only came here only once, as my stomach needed some relief from the hot spicy food. read more

Can I give 5 stars based off one dish? I don't see why not... I was in need of A/C, a respite, and fuel. And all of that came in the form of Zhang Bistro. A relatively simple menu with Chinese American staples, I went with drunken noodles with chicken. I was expecting something average and was so so so happy with the dish. It had an herbaceous sweetness to it. The chicken was tender. The noodles had a nice bite to them and weren't over cooked. After adding a few dashes of chili sauce... it was the perfect lunch to help me on my hot NOLA way. My server was so sweet. The ambiance was relaxed, cute, approachable, but still thoughtful. And it looks like they have an awesome happy hour so I took a photo for the general public knowledge. Not to mention they have beers as cheap as four dollars! So this spot offers a combination of both Chinese and Thai dishes on their menu. I have sampled both varieties and they seem to do a good job with both types of cuisine. I find the Chinese options here to be a bit better than the Thai selection to my taste on average. I've never had any trouble getting seated and during my lunch visits here there have been very few other customers inside. I have walked past this establishment at night and the diner service seems far more crowded. The ambiance certainly has that mandatory Asian décor theme people tend to expect in restaurants like this. The restaurant looks nice when you first walk in, however once you sit down you start to notice all the chipped dinnerware. They have a good selection of menu items and can cater to vegan or gluten free dietary needs. For food, I tried the fried cream cheese wontons, drunken noodles, and the spicy Szechuan hot wok. I asked for the drunken noodles to be mildly spicy and they weren't spicy at all. All of the food was just average. The customer service was lacking here. There were no drink refills throughout the meal and the waiter never brought a large plate for the wok entree, so you were stuck using the small appetizer plate. read more

It must be the location because the food and service are always excellent. Some of the very best hot and sour soup in the city. We tend to purchase the appetizers and small bites to share. I just ordered via Uber eats, spending $70, for very disappointing meals. They ran a special of 2 for 1 on the pad Thai. Because I am a cancer patient and have gastric issues, I requested no peppers or chilies but they put some in anyway. The taste, however, was even worse. Instead of using tamarind, it tastes like tomato paste was used. Quite gross. Lastly, regarding the pad Thai, the chicken must have been soaked in a baking soda solution to make it tender. It was tenderized too long giving the chicken a mystery meat texture. I feel like I wasted my hard earned money for "food" I can't eat. Hopefully the soup and rice are better but I'm leery of trying either. Never again! read more

I cannot even begin to describe the amount of care, dedication and hard work Ashley and her team went into making our event special! She, Lily, and Cyprian decorated the tables, provided fresh flowers and even printed out special menus for us. My youngest nephew who has special needs is typically a picky eater, but Ashley and her team went out of their way to create him separate dishes that he loved and ate. First time eating here. They had both a vegan and gluten free menu. There was a good array of choices. Only thing I was hoping for was fish. The only choice was fried. There was still much more to choose from, though. The food came out very quickly and was prepared well. The tofu and vegetables was light and not too oily. Today we went to Zhangs. It was cute. I am going to start out and say my review is perhaps a little unfair. I rarely am, but today I ordered the only meal that was just okay. The shrimp shumai had a sauce that I could drink. The red cripsy chicken was really good, but you have to love hot. The shrimp fried rice was just excellent. I, however, did not order these dishes. I ordered the pad Thai. It wasn't bad. The shrimp was so fresh, and well cooked, but the sauce was a little off for me. I think the waiter tried to direct me differently, but I didn't read between the lines. It wasn't horrible, but it did let me down. I may return and order differently. read more

Literally a 5 minute walk from Frenchmen street and was so happy I stumbled upon this pace. They have an entire vegetarian/vegan menu for my girlfriend which was a relief. Service was quick on a Sunday evening and only less than half filled the room. Their sweet and sour and tofu soup were SO good. I wished they added the skin for the Peking duck sampler but the bao was still good. Their house fried rice had a charred taste to it and it was delicious. We came on a Tuesday evening, there were a few other tables seated but the place was mostly empty. We were seated quickly and our waiter was very pleasant. Lost a star for me because the table we sat at was wobbly and waiter was slow to take our order. We started with the old fashioned and spicy margarita to drink. Spicy margarita was absolutely delicious, not too spicy, but had a little kick. Old fashioned was also one of the better ones we have had in the city, not too sweet, could still taste the bourbon! For an appetizer we got the steamed pork dumplings. They were delicious. The sauce they came with wasn't just plain soy sauce, it was sweet and went well with the fresh dumplings. For our entrees, we got the pad Thai and sweet and sour chicken with a side of vegetable rolls. The veggie rolls were the best I've ever had, full of flavor and you could tell they were fresh. Overall it was a pleasant experience. Prices were good for the amount of food you got and server was very pleasant. We got takeout from this restaurant on a weekday because Uber Eats had a special, buy one get one free! My husband and I decided to try it and we are glad that we did. Everything was piping hot and fresh when it got to our home, and lots of food in each plate! The only thing was that the beef tasted like chicken lol so we were thinking maybe they didn't complete the order correctly. But we ate it anyway. In an ostentatious corner space where you wouldn't expect to find Chinese in New Orleans, this place offers (to my suspicion) both Chinese and Thai cuisine, including some considerable vegan options. I figured I'd go for the classic Chinese dish, and they delivered a quality ma po tofu, with a complex flavor hitting bitter, astringent notes to contrast the savory base of the sauce, with a bit of numbing action from proper Sichuan pepper. I made sure to scoop out as much of the sauce as possible. Some chili oil we got off the next table added an amount of heat that wasn't intolerable, but was flavorful. I'm not sure every dish they make is as good based on feedback I got from across the table. Still, I'm glad to see the diversification of the local culinary scene. It is a nice place to eat, despite the building probably being older than the state of Louisiana. read more

I was very surprised at how good this place was. The location is right in between Downtown and Frenchmen so you're bound to pass by it. Our server was amazing. I caught the chef come out to the front of the house to check on people making sure they were enjoying their food which I thought was super sweet. Seems like the locals come here a lot, not so much a tourist trap. Very reasonable prices for downtown. I got the sesame tofu. It came with so much flavor and lots of protein. No skimping there. I'm surprised at how fast our food came out during Mardi Gras adventure time. The food was sooo good I was blown away. My expectations were low. This place was PACKED.
