My love for Sulimay's can't be overstated. It's everything you want in a neighborhood diner. Unassuming and homey, a place that just makes you feel welcome. Since my first visit, I've been working my way through the menu and haven't had a miss yet. My favorites include the hash browns (to die for!), the buttermilk pancakes (great homestyle flavor & perfect texture), and the biscuits and gravy. I'm from Tennessee, so I'm picky about my biscuits and gravy, and theirs is the best I've had in Philly yet. I often go on weekday mornings, sit at the same corner table, and read a book while I sip coffee and enjoy a meal. It's perfect. The corned beef hash hype is real! This spot has delicious corned beef hash, and the flavor is decadent. It's got a hint of vinegar, onion, and mustard that meshes well with everything else. The hashbrowns and the crispy outside is perfect. Our server was very nice and definitely was in the weeds so thank you to her for getting everything and then just letting us enjoy our meal. Fabulously delicious breakfast. We got the berry compote French toast with a pork roll egg on roll sandwich and they were both perfect. The two most delicious, flavorful, non greasy best versions of themselves. We felt full and yet they were both so light. I am daydreaming about this meal hours later. Hours will become days. This place is such a vibe. A solid staple for whenever you're craving good food, good coffee and a no frills environment that makes you feel like you're dining in a time capsule from the 1960's and beyond. When you walk in you're greeted by mirror paned walls speckled with random pieces of Philly nostalgia. Booths line one side while a counter lines the other and while the initial interpretation might leave you worried about having to wait, the place is quite spacious albeit narrow. Before even being seated, the waitress turned her head while walking us to the table and said, I'll get cha's wooder and coffee, k? Absolutely. Love it already. The menu is a mix blend of classics and imaginative spins. For our brunch we opted for "The Fishtown Scrapettizer" which is not your typical pork-centric scrapple. No, this scrapple is freaking delicious. Made with white fish and fried in a chonky square, placed a top of thick sliced tomato with a zesty mayo-based sauce then topped with a creamy tartar sauce, fried egg and sliced pepperoncini. Definitely order this. Next we opted for the "Shopsins Scramble" which came with eggs scrambled with blue cheese, bacon, baby spinach and avocado + choice of toast and potatoes or hash browns. I opted for rye and hash and both were delicious. All in all a good option and the blue cheese was an interesting addition to breakfast eggs I've never had before. Next was the classic #2 (2 eggs + 2 pancakes.+ choice of meat. Option for cheddar, American or Cooper Sharp for the cheese). Love the option for Cooper sharp and the bacon was perfectly crispy. Overall a good dish. Have heard fantastic things about their buttermilk pancakes and while solid, not completely blown away (there's a clubhouse nearby that still can't be beat when it comes to round breakfast cakes). Note that prices fluctuate because of eggs so what's listed on the menu isn't what you'll likely see reflected on your check. Finally got a chance to try this restaurant. The pancakes lived up to the hype as 1 of the best in Philly! I'd give them a 8.5/10 and to me they tasted very similar to IHOP (which is a great thing). The biscuit left much to be desired though and I would give that a 6.5/10 (the strawberry compote was great though and prevented me from grading the biscuit lower lol). I'll be honest, what initially drew my attention to this restaurant was the hilarious meme mural on the side of the building. Aside from that, my group was pleasantly surprised with this diner. We ordered the Fishtown Scrappetizer, berry french toast, number 2, and lox eggs Benedict. The Fishtown Scrappetizer: crispy, saucy, and so yummy. You should get this. We were initially intrigued by fish being in the scrapple but was actually really good! The French toast was delicious and the berry flavor was wonderful. Although during those last couple bites the sweetness was a little too much. The lox eggs Benedict: probably the biggest disappointment of our dishes. The lox wasn't moist and the English muffin was also very dry. Hash on the side was great tho The number 2 was great! Classic. You can't mess this up. This is such an unexpected old school diner with new breakfast twists. The food was so good and I love the Philadelphia paraphernalia all over the walls. The staff was really attentive and was able to see a party of six right away. The biscuits and gravy were delicious, and it was surprising to have fish scrapple. This is a delightful little old fashioned hipster diner. I had the best blueberry pancakes ever. They were super soft, smooth and delicious. They weren't dry at all like most diners serve. I really didn't need to add any syrup, but I did anyway out of habit. They have an extensive breakfast menu with a unique twist on some favorites like eggs Benedict. I've been coming here for a few months now and the food has always been excellent. The service is great even though they've been struggling to get enough staff. Sometimes things get hectic but be patient and they'll take great care of you. The diner itself is really comfortable and retro with a ton of Philly and breakfast-related memorabilia decorating the walls. They have a ton of great comfort foods on the menu and the chef-owner brings a ton of skill and care into the food he makes. Many of the things like their biscuits, pulled pork, and fish scrapple are all made in-house with hours of work outside their normal business hours and the extra effort really elevates every dish. They don't advertise it nearly enough but their food, and chef Chad's creativity, really shines on their lunch menu (weekdays after 11 am) with all sorts of delicious sandwiches and some of the best fries you'll find in the area. Anything with their pulled pork is fantastic and definitely give the Fishtown scrapple a try because it's more like the best fishcake you've ever had than anything weird. Wonderful wonderful place to have breakfast! We stopped in on a dreary Friday morning for breakfast. It was not very crowded and because it is in a residential area there was some on street parking left by folks who had gone to work. The diner feel of Sulimay's is very inviting. We sat at a both and got serviced right away. I was excited to try the big fluffy biscuits that I saw pictures of on Instagram. They did not disappoint. I had gravy and biscuits and my friends had huge blueberry pancakes. The flood was wonderful and plenty for the portion. Our server was friendly and gave great service. She said weekdays are a little slower and probably better days to stop by if we were looking for a slower pace morning. The fact that I just visited Sulimay's for the first time, is a personal letdown. I can't imagine how often I would eat here if I lived closer to Girard. If you want a taste of Fishtown, then look no further...this diner has all the feels of what Fishtown represents: from the wait staff, to the art on the walls, to their menu (which has specific callouts and creations that showcase culinary ties to the local neighborhoods). I was completely blown away with my dish, which was scrapple and white fish mix with eggs. I am not embarrassed to say this, but I had an audible expression after my first bite...which immediately drew the attention of my family sitting with me, and they knew that I had ordered the winning plate. This is something that I've never seen on the menu anywhere else, it was the perfect combination of crunchy/spicy/buttery and dense. Also, when they ask you the option of the type of potatoes you want, you have to go with their home fries - unreal! it's a local vibe without the "locals only" expectations.
