Elegant, Ambient and too sweet (3.5 star) I came here for work meeting and had prefix menus so my experience may be different from others. Venue: it is good sized venue, ambient and has upscale elegant - classic theater type of look. Went to the small room area in the back to the left past the kitchen. Food: I have tried crab shrimp bisque, cheese steak roll, calamari, NY steak and cheese cake. The shrimp bisque was good but I've had better- for example near by Capital grill and definitely not closed to any of the bisque at fisherman's wharf. But you know what, when I got chunk of crab and shrimp I started to change my mind that it was getting pretty good. Cheese steak roll was pretty good but real rich. Calamari had good flavor but extremely sweet. The whole table agreed that there was unnecessary amount of sugar in there. Steak was nice and thick- however it would've been better if it had more salt and seasoning. The steak was cooked perfect medium rare. Texture was soft but I was slightly suspicious of meat tenderizer in there. Just a thought. Cheese cake was good but again, I've had better. Service: service was good. Although since it was table size to acclimate a party - everyone was attentive. Price: in my opinion it is overpriced. I.usually put price insight in the beginning but I am giving my insight on this last because- overall the experience and food was good. Mediocre experience overall, though the ambience is definitely nice. We visited as a party of four with a 4:00 PM Sunday reservation. Surprisingly, despite the restaurant being empty, we had to wait about 30-40 minutes. The staff kept telling us our table was "getting ready," which was confusing given how quiet it was. Service throughout the meal was quite slow. We started with the shrimp appetizer, which was good. We initially ordered oysters, but were informed 10-15 minutes later that they were unavailable, so we switched to calamari, which was just okay. For entrées, we ordered steak, crab cake and crab stuffed shrimp . Steak was served on a large plate with a very small portion and no sides included. At that price point, you would expect a more substantial serving or at least accompaniments. Dessert was the highlight -- we tried the crème brûlée, chocolate cake, and carrot cake, and all were enjoyable. One odd detail: the check was split into two without the server asking how we wanted it handled. Overall, for a higher-end steakhouse, we expected better service, smoother communication, and more attention to detail. Heard about their happy hour on instagram so we decided to try it. Happy hour is from3:00-6:00 Monday-Thursday; we arrived around 4:30 and sat at the bar. Not sure if you can only receive happy hour at the bar. We ordered the fries, crab cakes, beef Wellington bites and tuna stack. Everything was fresh, I would get everything again except the tuna stack. It's not really a stack per se, it came with tortillas chips and avocado. That was my first time at Sullivans, it was nice. This was my first time visiting Sullivan's Steakhouse. I was excited as I always am because my steakhouse experiences are always top notch, but not this time. I ordered a ribeye steak cooked Philadelphia style (but medium) and the temperature was correct to the eye, however it wasn't even lukewarm (the butter on top barely melted). My side of spinach was also cold. It's as if the food was cooked and sat to the side to wait for the remainder of my group's food to be brought to the table. I also ordered a Banana Old Fashioned (it was ok) prior to my food, but didn't receive it until well after my food came, and that's because I reminded my server (even I forgot for sec because it took so long). My sweet potato casserole was delicious and served at the correct temperature (Hot!). Now when it was time to leave, it took over an hour for my group to receive our checks and we weren't offered bags to put our leftover food in and take with us either. We had to ask, even though everyone else kept receiving bags. I'm very patient and didn't say much, but was extremely frustrated because when paying steakhouse prices, there is a certain level of service I expect. If the server is new or busy, then I would expect management to assist and not allow the customer experience to be exactly what it was that night for me and my group. I remained quiet as my group was already getting clearly frustrated and a couple of them were already communicating with management, so there was no need to add to the confusion at that point. From the time you walk in Sullivan it's a vibe. It's just got a feel to it. We went for Happy hour so we sat at the bar. The staff were nice and friendly and very helpful. One of the bartenders was smashing pineapple. I said the make juicers for that(I thought she was juicing it) turns out she was extracting the vodka it had been sitting in for 2 weeks. We tried it and it was nice and smooth. Came home and made some myself. To drink we had a Smoked Resposado and Mezacal New Fashion and a Smoked Rosemary and Orange Old Fashion, They were both awesome. To eat we had the beef Wellington bites a solid 10, must try. I was skeptical but yes must try. Always have to have fries and they didn't disappoint. Nice and hot. The crab cake sliders, maybe a 6 for me. While they were full of crab they needed more flavor and more slaw. Maybe just not my thing. Also the Ahi tuna Stack was just ok for me. I'll give it a 7. The atmosphere was very lively, definitely loud, but it had an energetic, upscale vibe that made the experience feel special. Our server was absolutely amazing. The service overall was fantastic, even though it moved a little slower at times because the restaurant was so full. For our appetizer, we had the caviar deviled eggs with olives, such a unique & flavorful start. They were packed with flavor. For my entree, I ordered the salmon with spinach & paired it with a Caesar salad. Everything was cooked perfectly & seasoned just right. The Caesar salad was perfectly balanced with flavor, fresh, crisp, & well balanced. Let's talk dessert. I had the Banana Foster bread pudding with vanilla ice & praline sauce; it was the cherry on the top. Warm, rich, & goey , but not overwhelming. The perfect ending to the night. We enjoyed the Trio Dinner, which includes three courses, & it was worth it. Sullivan's is on the pricier side, so just be prepared for that, but in my opinion, the quality, service, & overall experience justify it. What a fantastic meal. It was a Thursday night, the restaurant was not too busy. Eddie was our waiter, he spent a lot of time going over the menu with us making suggestions, offering changes that we could make to make the meal fit us better. When you rave about how good the salad dressing was on your salad, you know it's a good restaurant, ha ha. We loved the pork belly, shared a salad. My wife had a bone in fillet that was delicious, I had the cowboy bone in ribeye it was probably one of the best steaks I've ever had. For sides we had the lobster mac & cheese so delicious. I cannot begin to tell you. And the spinach sauté was also quite delicious. The drinks were a good size and delicious, made the way we wanted them. I came here with my friend becuase she always raved about this place. We decided to come for lunch because I was flying into Raleigh at lunch time. This worked out really well. There are plenty of parking options nearby. They have a lunch menu you can choose from or dinner if you like. I opted for lunch, for the smaller portions. I got the 6oz filet mignon and they let me sub the potatoes for asparagus since I'm currently doing a low carb diet. I also got a mixed green salad and the seared ahi appetizer. Everything was outstanding. They did have bread service, but I didn't try it so I am not sure how it is. Service was outstanding. We constantly had drinks and our food came out in a timely manner. I joined with my friend for our 10 year anniversary and we were quite underwhelmed and probably wouldn't recommend this place. We came around 5:15 so it was pretty empty and we were seated right away. The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous. It's nice and cozy. We mentioned it was our anniversary so the table was beautifully decorated and had fresh rose petals. The service was pretty good as well and we were well taken care of The food however, was very disappointing. It just lacked a lot of flavor. The steak was the star of the show, but we're relieved since it is a steakhouse. The mashed potatoes were bland, the spicy shrimp egg roll was nothing impressive, the shrimp and lobster soup was terrible and barely had any seafood and the seafood that was in there was pretty overcooked, we also ordered the crab fried rice and the rice was completely soft and mushy. Everything besides the steak sort of just tasted like it was preheated and warmed up. The Keylime pie was one of the worst. My friend said he has taste. We made reservations to celebrate our anniversary here and we were very satisfied with dinner. We made early reservations for 5pm so we were not hindered by traffic. We informed them that we were celebrating our anniversary in the reservation and our table was covered in rose petals. Walter was our server and he was amazing. He was quick in making sure our glasses were full, he stopped by at appropriate times to check on us and was attentive to when we wanted something or had a question. My wife had steak egg rolls and I had lobster bisque for appetizers. We gave them 5/5 and 4/5 (slighty too spicy). We both ordered steaks for dinner she had the wagyu bone in strip 3/5 and I had a porterhouse 3/5. The negative was that they were heavy handed on the salt and pepper seasoning which took away from the natural flavor of the meat. We got cheesecake to go 5/5. The temperature inside was perfect as it was very chilly outside and felt comfortable. We will return again as it is one of our go to staek restaurants in Raleigh. read more

I arrived with my date around 8:55pm on a Friday evening. We had 8:45 reservation. We were a little late as I forgot my wallet in my car and had to use a Lyft. A couple hours before arriving, I called to ask if they had a private lot for parking because I didn't want to struggle to find a parking spot. I was told no, which was fine. However, when I got there, they had valet services... I was very confused as to why didn't that say that when I called about the parking lot... I would've utilized that service as I wanted to make a few stops after dinner. Check in was a little hectic. The host(s) seemed busy and someone disorganized and uncoordinated. After a few minutes of waiting, we were sat and our waitress was Shelly. She was friendly and came over promptly. At 9:07pm, we ordered drinks and apps. We got the calamari and the pork belly. I ordered a cocktail and my date got a glass of wine. I really wanted the angry shrimp as I had viewed the menu prior to coming. I was told by Shelly that they no longer serve that item due to complaints. I was told they only served it for a week when it was put on the menu. We placed food order at 9:17pm after complimentary bread was brought to the table. I got the Sure Thing w/ 16oz ribeye and mashed potatoes. I chose the bananas foster bread pudding for the dessert. My date ordered the cowboy cut ribeye with asparagus. The drinks came at 9:24pm, which was 15 minutes after ordering. We both enjoyed them. The pork belly came at 9:26pm. Our waitress said calamari look overcooked and sent it back. We received it a few minutes later at 9:29pm. In my personal opinion, there was a lot going on with the calamari. There were seeds, peppers, jalapeños, etc. We had to dig through that to get to the calamari. While I did enjoyed the peppers, it was a bit overwhelming. The pork belly was great. No complaints. Entrees arrived at 10:17pm, a whole hour after ordering. The food wasn't hot either; it was warm. That was unexpected considering how long it took. Also, the my steak seemed more like a medium rare/rare than a medium. My date's steak was definitely medium rare/rare in places when it should've been medium throughout. With how long it took to get the meal, we just kept it and ate it as we were waiting for the entrees. Personally, my steak wasn't seasoned enough for my liking. My date said that the garlic butter he got on the side really made his steak enjoyable. Without it, it may have been a different story. Waitress, Shelly, was attentive at first but it attentiveness diminished throughout the visit. I didn't like how we didn't get an update for majority of the time we were waiting for our entree to come after we received the appetizers. We also waited a while for her to return after we were done eating. At 10:40pm, my date ordered NY cheesecake to go. I got the bananas foster pudding as my dessert course. I received my desert around 5-7 minutes later. I the main portion of it was soft and delicious. I want a fan of the caramel sauce on top as it was hardened. It would've been better if it was actually a sauce. My date at the cheesecake later on and they enjoyed it. For this to be an upscale steakhouse, the experience was not up to par. The tables were SO close to together that we could clearly hear conversations of people around us. I repeatedly saw staff standing by the private room doors on their phones and conversing. The only other upscale steakhouse I've been to in the area was Perry's and it was more superior than here. I would recommend Perry's over Sullivan's any day! My experience at Perry's was PERFECT! There, I received the best steak I've ever tasted. Sullivan's website says "A steakhouse experience should be unforgettable. We had to wait about 5 minutes before the hostess could be found to seat us. What was disturbing was the place was empty and more people were coming in behind us and were made to wait also. We had a while after seated before our server came to our table. Meanwhile, diners who were seated after us had their orders taken while we waited. I ordered oysters on the half shell only to be advised they were out of oysters but the kicker was it was still on my bill. Our appetizers didn't even arrive at the same time. The calamari was crispy/chewy and my boiled eggs with caviar was over salted compared to our mains that lacked salt at all. When the entrees arrived they were warm and I was tempted to request a salt shaker due to the blandness of steak, potatoes, and spinach. Don't get me started on the lobster Mac and cheese. I've now visited Sullivan's twice this year, and unfortunately, both experiences were disappointing. During my most recent visit, I asked multiple times for my food to be served very hot. Instead, it arrived lukewarm -- again -- just like my first visit five months ago. Rather than bringing a fresh, properly heated plate, the manager offered to reheat it. At a restaurant of this caliber, I didn't expect to have my meal reheated and returned, especially after repeating my request several times before it even arrived. Service was slow, our water glasses were never refilled, and the biggest issue came with the bill: a 20% gratuity was automatically added for a party of six. When we questioned it, both the server and manager insisted it was policy for any reservation initially made for seven or more -- even if fewer people show up. One person in our group canceled the day before, and although this was communicated during the confirmation call, no one mentioned that we'd still be charged gratuity based on the original reservation. This contradicts the language on Sullivan's website, which states: "A service charge of 20% will be added to groups of 7 and larger." It says nothing about being charged based on your initial/original reservation count, regardless of actual attendance. When I raised these concerns, the manager's response was dismissive and unprofessional. He responded dismissively, saying he'd have to "go to the office and dig it out" if I really wanted to wait -- which felt unprofessional, especially after a long wait due to already slow service. For a meal that cost me $70 (one appetizer, one cocktail, and a side), the quality and service simply didn't justify the price. Caviar Deviled Eggs - the deviled eggs were ok, the caviar was more of a decoration and the taste profile was lacking. 3. Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass Hong Kong Style - the sea bass was seasoned well and the sherry soy glaze definitely kicked it up a notch. The baby bok choy was a bit depressing due to how they cooked it. The presence was dead instead of bright and full of life. 4. George's Banks Seared Sea Scallops - This was not my first time to have George's Banks sea scallops. They seemed to be on the smaller size. But they were cooked right and full of flavor. The zesty lemon cream and the basil oil didn't really enhance the overall umai-ness. 5. Asparagus Risotto - The risotto was delicious itself and the acidity from the wine gave the risotto that unique characteristic. However, the asparagus didn't really speak at all. We enjoyed some beautifully crafted cocktails: a French 75 and a pomegranate cosmopolitan. I went with the beef Wellington bites and a market fresh salad. My hubs chose the steakhouse salad. Everything was perfect. The beef Wellington bites were delectable and bursting with flavor. The salad was fresh with delicious cheese. Apologies I can't remember the servers name but she was a petit woman with the NJ/NY accent and she was very good and stood out. The food was much better this time. We had a few apps for the table and I will say the beef Wellington bites were really good. The shrimp egg rolls were not as good and I wouldn't order again. The correct steaks and cooking temps werevery good. I had the cowboy ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. A couple we went with split the Cajun ribeye and they absolutely loved it. For side the sweet potato casserole was the favorite and the lobster mac n cheese was not. Excellent cocktails and wine as well. Overall had a very mediocre experience which was very disappointing considering their reputation. Our waiter, although super sweet, rarely checked on our table, the restaurant was out of multiple menu options including the bread starter- the waiter kindly told us they had bread from Publix instead of their usual sourdough- I thought he was kidding, but indeed what came out looked like grocery store bread. Our reservation was at 6pm and entrees didn't come out until 7:30pm- luckily I was in great company and being there for a while didn't bother us. I got up to use the restroom at one point and it was clear that they put out more tables on the floor- it was a tight squeeze between tables to get across the room. It's clear that the staff was overwhelmed and stretched thin the whole night (maybe because of the holiday season?). It was an off night for Sullivan's. Fortunately for me, my family always makes the outing worth it, even though the four figure price tag was definitely not worth the food we got from Sullivan's. For my mom's birthday, I hoped for much higher quality to make her day special. Service started off well for us with decent appetizers, but our steaks were subpar. Without the expensive upgrades, they are drastically under-seasoned and plain. The value proposition here just isn't worth it. Flavor aside, two of our party's five steaks were off; one was under and one was over. Replacing the overcooked steak took a very long time, and the rest of the food began getting cold in the process. Between entrees and dessert, we opened my mom's presents. During this time, our server seemingly gave up on us (we just happened to be at the threshold for an obligatory 20% tip, so as other customers were seated, they were much more closely attended to). Even still, the restaurant wasn't nearly busy enough at noontime to warrant waiting as long as we did for our server to get to us for dessert orders. The desserts weren't worth waiting for: with a room temperature creme brûlée and an aggressively mediocre chocolate cake. My recent experiences at Longhorn, for a fraction of the price, have been more enjoyable by a long shot. read more

Had such a great dinner here last night with my mom. Our server Lilly was absolutely wonderful! We both ordered off the triangle restaurant week prix fix menu for $49. My mom had the shrimp and lobster bisque with the filet mignon and banana foster bread pudding. I had the wedge salad, the filet mignon, and the key lime pie. The wedge salad was delicious and fresh and I'd order that again on every visit. The filet was cooked perfectly medium rare and was such a flavorful and tender piece of meat. The garlic mashed potatoes were ok, not really warm on the plate but the side of creamed spinach I ordered more than made up for it! The key lime pie was divine, the crunchy crust and custardy lime! Beef Wellington bite appetizers were fantastic. Steaks were mostly good. One steak was not cooked to order so it was sent back and it took almost 15 minutes to get it back. It was a better temperature but lacked seasoning and flavor. Server was nice but overstayed and overshared throughout the meal. Tables seem closer together than they used to be. We have enjoyed Sullivan's as a special occasion restaurant for years but this trip was fairly lackluster. read more
