Been here many times over the past year plus. The bar tenders are great and busy but get right to you and let you know they see you. The food is good. Wedge Salad with blackened shrimp yummy. Up here for a wedding ( last time was funerals. Wedding better! Anyway this is a great place to have dinner or watch sports at the bar area. Always a good game on. BB ribs were tender fall off bone. Came in for a late night dinner after my flight. Got seated right away and our server was a sweetheart. Gave great recommendations and kept refilling drinks without even being asked to. She even left us to talk till the restaurant pretty much was empty. Had the open faced meatloaf sandwich, recommended by our server. It was good. Messy to eat as expected but still good. I got the fries as my side and they were well seasoned. We also tried the fox farm mushrooms which were good too. Was sold on the crème brûlée cheesecake but it didn't come out as expected. I was expected a solid top sugar layer but it tasted more like a flan so that fell flat. I had quite the delicious and speedy breakfast here prior to a conference at the convention center and had the kindest service! Location is great right near the convention center. It's connected to I believe the Marriott but the food was very good! I got an omelet and hash browns and black coffee, pretty basic. Service was quick! Loved my omelet and the hasbrowns were cooked to perfection. Ambiance is very hotel restaurant like, but I was there for breakfast so wasn't looking for anything fancy for breakfast. I was caught off guard with how good my rib sandwich was. We walked in and the place is massive and super clean but no one was there. We were the only people sitting down to eat which was weird because it was 6 o'clock. So that was concerning but the menu looked good so we stayed. The staff was friendly but service was a little slow. Especially considering we were alone there. The rib sandwich just melts in your mouth. I would have liked it to be bigger but it wasn't too expensive so I was happy with it. I have only dined in at Rye for lunch and dinner but they also serve breakfast. On this most recent visit I met my husband here for lunch and we had a good experience. It was the chicken and dumplings with a side of mac and cheese with a beer for me and the catfish plate with brussel sprouts and mac and cheese for him (this was the Friday special). We both enjoyed our meals. My only complaint is that I wanted more dumplings in my entree. read more

I was staying over at the Marriott hotel and came down to pick up some food. On my first visit I came down after check in. The bar area was filled with people. They staff told me they were no longer serving lunch and it was too early for dinner. I had to order from the bar food menu. I ordered the Rye Burger which came with bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and fries. It was very large and packed with flavor. The fries were the highlight with the seasonings they used. The meal was very good. I wish I had a bigger tray as everything started slipping down and falling all over. It was great regardless. The second time I came down here was for check out. It was about 12pm so I was hoping to get some brunch. The staff informed me they were no longer serving breakfast. They only had the lunch menu available. I should have gone over to the Starbucks down the hall but I was already sitting down and decided to order the Hickory Chicken Sandwich. It was a grilled chicken breast, mustard barbeque, applewood smoked ham, jack cheese lettuce, tomato, red onions, and a pickle. This sandwich was underwhelming. I did not enjoy it. It felt very bland. I should have sticked with my original idea and go to Starbucks for a breakfast meal. Maybe on a different day it would have been good but today it was not. read more

Horrible experience!!! Unprofessional greeter, our reservation was lost, and we were initially told they couldn't accommodate our party. We were eventually seated at some oversized chairs around a side table in what felt more like a lobby than a dining area. If we hadn't already had tickets for the Martin Marietta Center, we would have left. Throughout our visit, the dining room remained less than half full. Avoid this place at all costs! read more

Even at a nice Marriott, I seldom think of the in-house restaurant as being anything other than convenient. That changed when we ate at Rye! We had just come back to the hotel from a Hurricanes game and weren't ready to call it a night. We popped into the bar area and grabbed a hightop. The bar is forward in the restaurant with plenty of interesting areas to it. Some seating in groups around coffee tables, some circular booths, and plenty of tables. Jordan took GREAT care of us. We ordered drinks and apps. I've never, not once in my 56 years, had someone do this; Jordan recognized we had just ordered a ton of finger foods and he opened and gave each one of us a wet-nap. Amazing thought. Fingers cleaned, were we now ready to go. The One Black Berry is an awesome drink. The Old Fashioned, while a pretty common drink today, was also knocked out of the park. Wings were great! We had two orders, one in Lemon Pepper Butter and one in Bourbon BBQ. Seldom do I run into wings that don't need at least a little dip, but man these were so good without! A couple orders of Buffalo Chicken Dip and the Baked Brie rounded out the food for the night. It was such an amazing experience that it wasn't until we were back up to our rooms that I realized I didn't take any pics. Guess you'll just have to go see for yourself. Ask for Jordon! read more

I arrived late to my hotel, so seeing most places close at 9 pm turned this place into my dinner to-go spot. Even though I was staying at the hotel, I couldn't confirm if the Marriott's room service was offered via Rye because when I tried calling the restaurant (used the number on Yelp), they didn't answer the phone. I could have called front desk, but it wasn't that important. I walked downstairs to order at the bar. I ordered the veggie burger. The menu didn't describe the patty, but it sounded good.. turns out it's a Beyond (or Impossible? My bet is Beyond) Patty. A veggie burger is the incorrect name and I knew right away by the smell of the take out bag upon dropping it off to me that it couldn't be a true veggie burger. Regardless, the smoked gouda and mushrooms is what sounded good. The patty was cooked to a burnt crisp, so it was like a real charbroiled burger and the mushrooms were cooked nicley. It was a to-go order, and there was no sauce description on the menu, so I'm curious.. would all the condiment packets been provided if I dined in? Because it needed a condiment, desperately. I try to avoid restaurants in hotels but would have missed a gem had I done so. I'm here with a large conference and was afraid the wait would be long. To my surprise, I was seated quickly. I did have to wait and ask for my server but the lady I asked wasn't my server and still took my order! I ordered salmon and double Brussels sprouts and OMG! Both were amazing. I wanted to know what each had been cooked in but I'm sure it was something I didn't need or need to know. The salmon was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The Brussels sprouts had a really nice savory taste. So I stand corrected. Restaurants in hotels can be pretty good, actually great. Let's see what some wings will be like tonight. Ordered room service so I could continue working on a project. The server who took my phone order and delivered my dinner was super nice and very outgoing. My order arrived at my room piping hot and ready for consumption. The salmon was nicely seasoned and tasted great. The carrots were definitely al dente, which was fine but the potatoes were really charred (decremented a star on the review). I'd still recommend the dish, maybe pick some different vegetables Update: Dined in the restaurant for breakfast. The food was delicious and my server, Donna, was awesome managing several tables and customers all by herself while being super sweet and attentive. Pretty impressed with Rye, which shattered my expectations of a hotel restaurant and bar. I had the wedge salad with blackened chicken on top and it was the best wedge salad I had ever had, hands down, and fairly priced too! The chicken on top was really perfectly done. Staff was friendly and helpful. All of the usual caveats apply to it being a hotel bar/restaurant combo. Other diners said their wings were excellent as well, though I got the salad and didn't have the wings. Ate breakfast here the next morning and the garden omelette was outstanding. Is this restaurant still in business? I called three times for a reservation, leaving a message twice, and no one returned my call. I will NEVER consider Rye Bar and Southern Kitchen again. What a farce. EDIT: I just called them at 919-227-3370. No one answered. On their website, it looks as though you can reserve a table through Open Table, but when you click on the link, it tells you to call the restaurant. Catch 22! These people don't want your business. There are too many good restaurants in the area to warrant tolerating this place's shoddy customer service and bizarre approach to reservations. Move on, nothing to see here. 0 stars. read more

We had an event here recently during a conference. This review is mostly for Terrance, who went above and beyond to ensure that our event was set up for success! Food was simple but good--a few of their wraps, salads, cookies, etc. I was taking over leading the event from a colleague, arrived a few hours early only to see that the tables weren't set up the way we wanted. I asked Terrance if he could help, and he was able to quickly change things up and set the room up the way we envisioned. I ordered the crab cake and shrimp and grits. The crab cake was very bland no flavor at all. However it had a nice crisp. The sauce was not a good mix. The shrimp and grits was decent, very bland. The blackened shrimp was good. However the meal it was ok. I wasn't impressed. A associate of mines order the shrimp and crab hush puppies. It was not good. We were staying at the Marriott and ate here during a conference break. I did not feel like driving around and going in anywhere else. I was definitely pleased with what they offered in the menu choices. I thought the french fries were good and the food was plentiful. The burger was pretty big. Probably too big to be honest. it was a good burger. The service at the bar was awesome. She definitely went above and beyond. Somebody else I was with got the veggie burger and said it was really really good and she is not a vegetarian by nature. This restaurant is located on the lobby floor of Raleigh Marriott city center. It was short staffed when we went but the bartenders were really nice. Drink review: Platinum margarita upgraded the tequila to don julio reposado. We ordered two of Them at the same time and that was a big mistake. I think the sour mix was too sugary. Mexican mules : we sent the mules back. They used a local ginger beer that seemed underwhelming and made the drink taste weird Old fashion with basil Hayden: it was just okay! 19 crimes blend: great choice Food review : Salted Caramel cake : large portion, moist and flavorful. Honestly, I travel a lot for work and always stay at Marriott's but this was the worst food ever!! The old fashioned was absolutely awful! The short ribs - were sliced pieces of meat- uh this is not how short rod is served. Then it was so tough I couldn't even cut through it. I took two bites and gave up. Honestly so so so bad. Grits - horrible. Is this the south??? I have had better grits in NYC. So disappointed. I ate the glazed carrots and that's all that was edible. So so so bad. read more

Rye bar offers good southern food. The grits were very flavorful and the portions are really large. If you are in a hurry, this is not the place to be. We arrived at 4:30, and dinner menu started at 5 pm. We were told the apps would come sooner while we waited for the dinner menu to start. We put in our order around 4:45 and didn't get any food until 5:30, and we were on a tight timeline. The kitchen was very slow and the service was a bit slow without the waiter checking in. We walked around downtown trying to find something to eat before a concert and we just randomly stopped in cause we were really hungry. You can eat at the bar area or a nice, huge dining room. Scott was our waiter and he was full of life. I ordered a rare salmon filet and a small house salad. The salmon was absolutely delicious. I mean like over the top delicious. My salad was great for $5.00. My friend had the salmon meal with amazing Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. The Brussels were some of the best I have had. I really enjoyed this meal! read more

We ordered sweet potato pancakes that came out with 3 tiny pancakes, no butter and a couple slices of bacon. 2 biscuits with a tiny smear of gravy, overcooked medium eggs. This is the restaurant in the Marriott hotel. It was easy to find and get to while traveling. There were four of us and we needed to recap the day and eat. I ordered the shrimp and crab balls which came out well over done and didn't really taste like shrimp or crab. We also got some buffalo chicken dip which the others ate (I am not into buffer flavor or chicken) and seemed to like. For mains we were all over. Steak, soup and salad, pasta and I got the salmon. The main complaint was that the portions were too large. We were staying at the hotel and didn't want stinky food up in our rooms with no way to heat it up and eat it later. The food was good, but we all felt a little wasteful. The ambiance is hotel restaurant, so open and loud. I did like that they have corners a bit more tucked away to help you work and discuss the day. It is what you expect in a hotel, a little nicer. The service was good. We were not forgotten about, which is a win in a hotel restaurant. They were friendly and helpful. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but for a hotel restaurant it was good. read more

Overall disappointing dinner, ordered the Cheerwine Short rib and it was reminiscent of cafeteria food tough bland and likely not even a short rib cut nothing to compliment here aside from the wait staff they were great prompt attentive and not overbearing just welcoming and aware. We sat there for 45 minutes with no acknowledgment, no drinks, no silverware. The two servers walked by us several times and just acted like we were invisible. Another table got up and left without eating as well, but they had at least gotten something to drink. The gentleman that was sat at a table right before us, got a drink, ordered his food, served his food, ate it and paid for it and left. All while we were still sitting there being ignored!! The breakfast buffet is excellent and, while a little spendy, is worth it once in a while. The dinner food is good, but on par with other restaurants, and at a higher price point. The service is a bit slow in the morning, and overwhelmingly slow in the evening. As in, over an hour to get a burger on several occassions. Most bizarre bar experience. Rye bar is inside the Marriott. Staff seemed friendly but maybe did too much drugs in the 60s. No actually our server two nights was a nice young man who couldn't seem to figure out an order to save his life. Frist night we asked for the same drink over 3 times and then someone from our party had to go up to the bar to actually get the drink. Expect they are out of most of what's on the menu....that super fun experience of can I have, oops we are out of that. Multiple rounds!!! Expect a frustrating experience and hope and pray you get a server who has a bigger memory than a gnat. read more

Stopped in on last Friday afternoon at 5pm to have dinner before theatre. Was offered a table in the lobby as only half the dining room is being used and the other 15 tables were reserved... however all empty at that time. We guessed the bad dining experiences have left the restaurant empty. We ordered our drinks and food and it was delivered 40 minutes later and French fries were hard and cold, meat dishes were overcooked. Drinks were never refilled and when we finished eating we had to ask hostess to get our check. We had seen the manager standing around all evening but she never greeted or spoke to anyone. The hostess asked us as we were running to our theater performance if all was ok. We told her that it was all disappointing and no one seems to care. She asked if we would like to take to manager and we told hostess that manager had made no effort in 1.5 hours to move from her position near kitchen door so we did not have time to talk now. This restaurant is always a disappointment and time suck so I would suggest no one allow the location to fool you into thinking it might be even an ok option. read more
