Now when I say SOME I mean an order of shrimp & grits with only the grits coming to the table...Ummm isn't it a cohesive dish? We waited and flagged our waitress who had to "check" with the kitchen. In the meantime, hubby decided to place his cold grits back under the heat lamp. The waitress ran over to assist and said she will bring the dish back so that they could remake it and add the missing shrimp. Meanwhile...my chicken and waffle dish hadn't arrived. When it finally did, it was lack luster...The chicken was under seasoned and the waffle was lukewarm if that...let's just say the special strawberry butter on top of the waffle didn't melt! SMH. As we drove through Portal, we saw Pepper Jack's. I've been by it many times but never stopped. We decided to check it out and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is just the right size for the small town. Order at the counter and your food is brought to your table. The menu included some deli sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, breakfast and dinner items. We both chose the fried flounder with two sides - I had a side salad and onion rings while my mom had potato salad and green beans. The fish was fried perfectly and it was not greasy at all. The onion rings were thick and tasty. I had their special Vidalia onion dressing on the salad and it was the perfect mixture of sweet and tang. The best part was the shocking low price. Our meals were $7.99 each! I don't think McD's is cheaper and certainly cannot compare food quality! Super friendly and helpful staff with big smiles and great attitudes. I'm looking forward to having breakfast there this weekend and trying some of their other menu items. Way to go Pepper Jack's!

My drink was delicious, but I often find that businesses post these great pictures to get you in and when you request said item it doesn't meet the same presentation as illustrated. I ordered what I believe was a Smores latte that had marshmallow, whipped cream and cookies on top. Well my latte didn't have any of the added toppings. I mean this is what bought me in and why I don't mind paying as much as I do because what is being advertised. It really comes off as false advertisement when you don't receive the same item being presented. And if it's a situation of the items not being available, the customer should have the option to decide if they would prefer something else instead. In this case, I was not told it wasn't available; I was just presented with the item once completed.

I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for anyone trying to get some good authentic southern cuisine; after a month in Vidalia this place was a breath of fresh air. My only immediate recommendation is either let people pick their food themselves at the buffet (and clarify that it's not all you can eat, other people at my table were confused about not being able to get a second serving) or ditch the buffet entirely. It's a nice idea but it would've been nicer and less awkward to just sit down and order what specifically I wanted. Also maybe hide that massage table by the bathrooms I wasn't sure what was going on there, it's literally the only weird thing with the otherwise delightful atmosphere of the restaurant.
