Strawberry bingsu was actually not that great. The snow wasn't very milky and had chunckier flakes than most. They also only put strawberries on top with no layers of strawberries beneath. Nearing the end, we only had icy snow and strawberry syrup without any fruit left. Mango cheese lava toast definitely saved the day. Had a warm, dense, and soft toast block covered with cubes of mango. The cheese paired so well with the warm toast too. The mango syrup glued everything together but was more jam-like than jelly-like which I really appreciated. Both had sweet cream ice cream on top which was nice as it added another creamy base while not clashing with the fruit. At $18.95 CAD for a toast, it is definitely a splurge but might be worth it. read more

My very first review for the year 2022 Small Dessert cafe along Kingsway,infront of Metrotown. Street metered parking and can be tough sometimes. Roughly can accomodate a dozen -15 patrons. 1 man show when we came and restaurant is half full already so orders are kinda late. Few interesting choices from the menu. I visited with 2 friends with me,we had the mango bingsu and the green tea lava cake. Reviewing a dessert is not really easy because most cafe offers thesame and all loaded with either sugar or cream so everthing taste good. Anyhow we ordered the full size,no drinks just water which we is not offered unless we asked for it hahahaha we need to flush those fructose from throat to gut. Service is customer oriented but only one person for everything so delays is expected. Neat place,simple decors,1 washroom all genders hahahaha. Pretty expensive in here but I gez everywhere a descent dessert can really be pricey. The mango Bingsu is so good,big chunks of mango and cheese on finely ice catchang.generous with milk,the lava bread is another dessert to die for,newly cooked bread with sugar iverload toppings,served in a very nice presentation. This place is meh. We got one soon bing and one chocolate cake. When we were served the soo bing was fine but we noticed mold on multiple parts of the chocolate cake. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get a photo because we brought it straight back up to the counter right away. They asked if we wanted another cake, we said no because we can't trust that these are fresh but we wanted to get a small soo bing to share considering those would be fresher. We paid the remaining amount for the soo bing as it costs more than the cake. When we were served, it was as if nothing happened and we were a little disappointed in the service because we didn't get an apology for the moldy cake, we weren't looking for compensation since I wanted to treat my friends, but this wasn't a great first experience for them and we likely won't be back. read more

This is my favorite place for bingsu. The texture is most similar to those found in Asia. It is not supposed to be shaved ice but more like shaved snow but with a slight milky taste to it. Some places in asia actually serve it with a small cup of condensed milk too. Not here though. I also like that it has a small and regular size. Recently came back after a long time away from this place. Overall I would say the past tasted better than now. Maybe because it was close to the store closing, but their Injeolmi toast was not as warm as I had wanted, still a satisfying dessert nonetheless with the oozy mochi center. Every bingsoo place I go to, I order strawberry so you know I have tried quite a bit of strawberry shaved ice in my life. First taste, it was wayyyyy too sweet. It was almost hard for me to eat it. And I have a sweet tooth. It wasn't the shaved ice itself but the strawberry syrup they added on top. The ice cream on top wasn't too good either. If you want some good shaved ice, I'd recommend going to other places even if this is more convenient as it's located right by Metrotown. Not only that, it's a bit more expensive than other places and the quality does not match the price. However, there are very cute claw machines outside the shop. It was $2 for one try and I was like fuck it yanno, so I tried one time. The plush I wanted was really close to the exit hole thing but omg the claw was so weak. Near Metrotown, this seems to be the only shaved ice place other than Crystal mall, and after hours of back to school shopping, I had to drop by for a quick snack. We shared the mango banana shaved ice, and for a regular portion, it was more than enough for the both of us. Similar to Snowy Village, the ice is sweet and milky rather than just water, and the mango was a great topping. Unlike some places that have frozen mango, this mango was surprisingly fresh and had a bit of sourness that was perfect. They also have alot of seating and cute decorations. If you have tried Snowy Village than this place is a no go. Its ran by Chinese trying to be Korean. The staff their are very disorganized. They will mix up 1 order out of every 3. It was amusing to watch. So I got the mango cheese bingsoo but without the cheese. I love cheese but don't feel like having it. Instead of adding more mango to it, they just took away the cheese. Their bingsoo is very lacking. They are very cheap on the mango. The only mango you see are the ones on top of it. No other mango in the middle. They also don't use quality mango. Yes unlike most mango places, they use the cheaper mangos Atkins or Haden. They should be using the Ataulfo mango. So the mango turned out to be sour. Well I can see why. The cost is the main thing. A large bingsoo here is $13.99 wow they sure know how to make the most for what they are charging. Ice is cheap and the mango can be purchased at superstore for 10 for $5.99. Unlike Ataulfo mango its $1.99 per lb. They add an scoup of ice cream on top. Definitely not worth the price. This place is currently busy because they don't have competitor as of now. Came back to try again after seeing it all over instagram and wanting a sweet treat after sushi, i am sad to say equally unimpressed. We tried their mango cheese bingsu and asked for less cheesecake which they were happy to accommodate. Unfortunately, the milky ice is not very milky and got chunky quickly. The mangos were fresh and not frozen which is appreciated but quite sour, which was okay for me, but not enjoyed by my friends. It did come with a scoop of ice cream but i'm pretty sure it was store bought frozen dessert (not the real kind). My friend and I were in the mood of bingsu so we ordered the smaller size (single) - sweet red bean and injeolmi respectively. The place is nice and convenient and the service was good. However, the pricing is a bit too much for its size. I have been to other Korean shaved ice places who have more varieties on one order. The injeolmi bingsu I had was just injeolmi on the surface finished off with almond flakes. It came with some condensed milk on the side. I didn't use the additional condensed milk as the sweetness was enough for me. The centre of the shaved ice was red bean and condensed milk. It was pretty much the same as my friend's, except that the sweet red bean bingsu had red bean inside and outside, and it was topped with some injeolmi. The flavour was good. So glad there's new Korean dessert cafe near Metrotown called Sulmida. There are only Snowy Village in 2 locations and Sulmida is located near Metrotown which is more convienent for me. Was super excited to hear that a new bingsu place opened up so closed to home! Interior was super simple and nice. Menu was straight forward and we decided to try the red bean bingsu and original injoelmi toast. Red bean bingsu was alright. The bingsu had this funny milk taste to it and was unlike other typical creamy and milky bingsu that we've had. I thought that it tasted a little like milk powder, but we weren't exactly sure and couldn't quite pin what was contributing to the funny milk taste (it definitely was not a sour/gone bad taste, was just a different kind of milk taste). Although, it wasn't too much of a problem as condensed milk was provided on the side, and helped mask the funny milk taste when we poured it on top. The red bean bingsu also came with injoelmi bites, and unfortunately we were disappointed as it tasted like the mochi that are typically served at Menchies. This was the first time I've ever tried an injoelmi toast. I found it more enjoyable than the bingsu. The injoelmi was sandwiched between two slices of toast with soybean powder all over it, and was topped off with a scoop of ice cream, caramel drizzle and almond slices. The injoelmi in the toast was softer and tasted better than the injoelmi bites in the bingsu. I enjoyed the toast combination overall, but I thought that the caramel overpowered and Westernized the Asian soybean powder. I have tried a variety of bingsoos over several different visits - melon, mango cheesecake, strawberry, and injeolmi. While the toppings are great, I find that the ice itself isn't as good as Snowy Village. The condensed milk inside the ice isn't as concentrated, and the ice isn't as soft and powdery. Prices for both joints are about the same, though Sulmida tend to give less topping. Regardless, this place can get very busy due to it's popular location and small interior. I would give this place 3.5 stars. This was my first time trying a shaved ice bowl, and I shared the Mango Banana with a friend. The ice was fine and powdery, but it lacked the sweetness I expected. There was some mango sauce drizzled on top, but I would have preferred more. Also, the fruit to ice ratio for the bananas was pretty low. There was maybe half a banana's worth of slices, but there were lots of mango at the bottom. I saw this reviewed on the front page of Yelp on August 20th and book marked it for future reference. It is not too far away from Metrotown. The interior is very clean and sleek. I came here for the toast Box with Gareth. The price was very reasonable for a large toast Box. I haven't had a lot Of toasts boxes, therefore, I'm just getting into this fad. My friend and I had the injulme bingsoo. The actual shaved ice portion of the dessert was mediocre. I prefer my snow ice to be creamier and I found this to be a bit more on the watery side. The mochi was quite tasty but froze easily because they were so small. There seemed to be a generous amount of injulme but again the consistency of the ice soaked through.
