But this place has perfected it! Who knew perfectly cooked smoked meat in between slices of untoasted rye bread and a small amount of mustard would be such a dreamy combination. Was so impressed with the place, we decided to order a whole turkey for thanksgiving..it was alright, don't think we will be doing that again though. The smoked meat tasted fresh, tender, and succulent and pairs well with mustard. I personally ask for extra mustard. If you're very hungry and can eat a lot, Small Plate of Smoked Meat (~$26) is perfect too, which includes enough smoked meat, slices of bread, and mustard packets for 1.5 sandwiches. I also love their Jar of Regular Pickles (~$7)! If you like pickles, their pickles pairs well with the Smoked Meat. Service is quick and isn't that busy during lunchtime. The smoked meat sandwich at SumiLicious was amazing. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, thickly cut, and full of flavour. It was prepared with just enough mustard (you can ask for extra if you want) and stacked high on rye bread. The sandwich exceeded my expectations. They suggested choosing medium fat for their Montreal smoked meat for first-timers (which I was), so that's what I ordered. Ordering was fast and efficient, though the restaurant is small, with only two sets of tables and counter seating around the perimeter. When we arrived around 1:20 PM on a Sunday, all table seating was occupied, with only a few stools available at one of the counters. After we took our seats, our order was ready within a few minutes. We ordered three Smoked Meat Combos, which included the Montreal smoked meat sandwich, fries (very good--crispy, hot, and fresh), a small container of coleslaw, and a pickle. Would I return? This was at the thick of the COVID pandemic though; tables were closed so I had to enjoy it in the car, and i recall it was a filling gravy drenched smasher delight requiring a fully empty stomach. The couple other visits since yes the tables were finally open but now the walls are covered with the aftermath of their Michelin Guide recognition. Sit down finally (if there is even a table open amongst the busyness) and helped myself to their smoked meat sandwich. Sadly they didn't have the hot mustard so the choices were yellow mustard, Dijon or honey mustard. The fries were crispy with a nice seasoning but lacked salt. The cole slaw was the type I like, none creamy but acidic. Staff were all friendly who helped me decide between sandwiches or plates. I called back to inquire about ingredients for my friend's daughter who has severe allergies, I was passed around to 3 different staff who assured me the meat was safe to eat but the bread "may contain." This was the best smoked meat sandwich I've ever had, and its not even close. The medium fatty smoked meat was the perfect blend of fatty and lean, seasoned to perfection, and along with the classic mustard and bread culminated into a perfect sandwich. Yes I realize I used the word "perfect" 3 times in that sentence but frankly there is no better adjective for that sandwich. Went in on a Thursday morning around 11:15am, no line up but steady flow of customers coming in. Ordered 4 smoked meat sandwiches and 3 smoked meat poutines. Smoke with the gentlemen behind the counter as he was preparing our meals, and asked about the restaurant and also some of the other options available. Was quite interested in the smoked spiced whole turkey to pre order for the upcoming thanksgiving holiday. Brought the sandwiches and poutine home and started on the poutine. The poutine seemed a bit small and lacking in fries. Most likely they are doing sizeflation and having the container being smaller. The fries had a good amount of gravy and cheese curds. Smoked meat tasted good, and it was a enjoyable dish. Next up was the smoked meat sandwich. One bite and wow wow wow wow wow! I haven't been to Montreal and to Schwartz in over 7 years. I don't know if I'm really qualified to review Sumilicious, because I'm not really a "Montreal smoked meat (MSM) guy", and obviously many more experienced and enthusiastic Yelpers are. This place also got HUGE props on Chowhound, so I have to at least help get it on the radar as a legit place. I AM a "loaded poutine" kind of guy, however, so I am qualified to review the smoked meat poutine (which I only remembered to photograph as it was nearly gone). It's good, and the gravy and fries go well with the meat, but it definitely committed a "poutine sin" by not having copious amounts of squeaky curds - it was seriously lactose deficient. In other words, and to paraphrase the commercials of my youth: more cheese, please. The under-the-radar entrance was near lots of parking, and the inside was exceedingly clean. The inside itself is pretty spacious too, which is deceiving from the outside.
