Was in the neighborhood strolling around and was looking for a quick bite before a movie. Had totally forgotten about this cafe style restaurant and decided to pop-in. Was primarily drawn ro the pastries but again I came on to get food and not sweets. Everything here looks good so and they have everything from brick own pizzas, sandwiches, salads to full on meals. There is both counter seating and tables available so you can gander at the foods as it's being prepared. Especially like watching the brick oven pizza as it's being created and pulled from the brick oven. Decide to get the crispy chicken sandwich which was so good and a dessert to go, a huge oreo style cookie sandwich which was sorta pricey at $11 but it was huge and weighed about 5 pounds - lol ! I wanted to order some more food as I saw several dishes being served to others. Will definitely be back and will add this spot to my favorites list.

Summer Kitchen is a very cute restaurant that focuses on farm to table. The ingredients are fresh and high quality and they offer a variety of dishes spanning across their lunch and dinner menu. My coworkers and I came for lunch and we made it right before the lunch crowd. Although there was no line when we ordered our meals, it took over 20 minutes for our sandwiches and salads to be delivered to our table. I would love to come on a weekend lunch, although I am now wondering if take-out is the move. The restaurant is small and limited, offering a few tables indoors and outdoors. I got the steak sandwich and thought it was delicious. They bake their bread in-house and you can tell -- the ciabatta was soft and fluffy. Their specialty also seems to be their pastries which I ordered two to-go. The marshmallow brownie was disappointing, the torched flavor of the marshmallow was too overwhelming in my opinion. The chocolate cake was fantastic though, the filling in-between the layers of cake was light and airy as opposed to it being too rich.

I came here for lunch with my partner to try a new restaurant down on Elmwood! I have been eyeing Summer Kitchen for a while, and was excited to try it. The place is pretty small with limited indoor seating (as all other restaurants on Elmwood) but there are also some tables outdoor. It is very bright inside, with a nice display of their pastries too. You order at the front, and they bring you the food when it is ready. I got the Brentwood Salad with Roasted Chicken, and my partner got the Pulled Pork sandwich. Overall, the food was okay. It was good and very fresh, but nothing too phenomenal. The meal was so pricey, however, and was not entirely worth the cost. Regardless, I'm glad I was able to check this place off my bucket list!

Good but pricier food. I got the Chinese Chicken Salad. Great portion. Super fresh. Perfect dressing ratio. It's normally hard for me to justify buying salads instead of making them but I was really craving salad. Ultimately, I was happy with my decision. I want to come back to try their sandwiches and pizza. Everything looks good. A lot of vegetarian options on the menu too. Food was ready fast. Super cute "farm to table" vibe interior. Nothing extremely special about service. I'll definitely be back after cooking at home and saving up money to come back.

Summer Kitchen is a delicious gem of an eatery in Berkeley! Farm-to-Table fresh everything; specially prepared sandwiches -I had the Reuben-delicious & crispy, spicy chicken dipped in panko, with special sauce to bring a smile to your face! Do try the salads & fresh salmon to tantilize. House-crafted baking reveals pastries that will have you in ecstasy! Service is fabulous & the friendliest people ever! Ambiance in this cozy, warm, friendly & delicious eatery named after Martha's Vineyard kitchens!

Friend of mine is a local and loves this place. I went for the crispy chicken and he had a Rueben. Honestly, for the food and how packed it was I lean towards a 4 star but when a local says it's the best spot on a packed block I recognize I'm probably missing something. The pastries and baked goods looked excellent. The staff was friendly. Good amount of seating but very little room between tables.

Always hits the spot when I'm craving a sweet treat around Rockridge/Elmwood! My go-to is always a slice of cake because it's GIANT and lasts me a good week or more in the fridge. The frosting is super decadent is the cake is moist. The baked goods always rotate and the staff has incredible recommendations for what to grab. The inside is a bit small, but I usually take my treats to go. Definitely recommend checking out if you're in the area!

One of the best restaurants in Elmwood (4/5 green stars) It's so easy to walk right by Summer Kitchen without even noticing it. It's a narrow shopfront with just a few tables outside and it's easy to miss as you ponder ice cream and other offerings from neighbors. Well, take it from me - forget ice cream and get a baked item from Summer Kitchen instead! Or try a pizza, or an egg salad sandwich - possibly the best egg salad sandwich you'll ever have. But if you are limited for time, try one of the fresh fruit pastries (galette) - they seem expensive at $12 but they are big enough for two and totally worth it! I'm giving Summer Kitchen 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. The positives are obvious - most of the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. Everything is made from scratch and there is transparent sourcing of the meat and fish (Mary's free-range chicken, etc.). There are a reasonable amount of vegetarian options and you can definitely find some vegan dishes too (salads, sandwich, pasta). Summer Kitchen could make the biggest environmental impact by scrapping beef from the menu - replacing it with plant-based alternatives, ideally. Beef has a carbon footprint of around 10 times that of chicken and over 100 times that of pea protein, on average. If everyone one the planet ate 1 lb. of beef per week (the US average), total greenhouse gas emissions would increase by one third! I'll write a post illustrating all of this soon on the Green Stars Project. So I really appreciate that Summer Kitchen makes more effort than the vast majority of restaurants on improving sustainability so that's my suggestion for the biggest opportunity for improvement - cut the beef.

Stumbled upon the cutest little farm-to-table restaurant! We tried the veggie sandwich and kale Caesar, both of which were spectacular. The fries were huge and fresh. The prices are definitely worth the quality of food. Next time I will be trying the desserts, they looked fantastic!

It's a local cute cafe with delicious sandwiches and bakeries. Wood oven pizzas are thin crust and great. Limited inside and outside seating. Clean and decent room inside to sit or rearrange tables to your party. Limited outdoor seating. Service is order-to-sit and your food will be delivered. Very few veggie option like eggplant sandwich. Few (good) local beer can options only. Great for seniors, kids, couples. Not so great for large groups or gathering unless pre arranged. There is parking lot being the block as well as free and paid street parking. Will be back for carrot cakes and more sandwiches.

What I like most about SK+B is that the food is prepared to order by cooks who care using high quality ingredients. Everything is simple and straightforward. Fresh and flavorful. The Chinese Chicken salad is a major sleeper hit. Really good and filling. The seasonal Brentwood salad fresh corn and feta is super tasty and worth anticipating its appearance. The pre-made Diestel turkey sandos are great grab-and-gos for the road or the park. The pizzas are perfect for one hungry human or two who wanna share with a salad. They have canned beer and wine and usually a house made citrus-ade. You can usually find a table inside after ordering at the counter.

Wood Tavern met the criteria for a relatively nice American restaurant in North Oakland. We visited for lunch and wanted to make this special for our mom, so we were perhaps a bit overdressed in business casual, but this is Oakland after all. On an ordinary Thursday, there were multiple groups waiting outside for the restaurant to open at 11:30 AM. That in itself should tell you how popular this place is. My wife and I dined at sister restaurant Southie next door a few years ago and really enjoyed it (I also rated it five stars on Yelp), so I was confident Wood Tavern would not disappoint. I initially booked our reservation using OpenTable to link it to my account and get 100 points. Since the max party size for Wood Tavern on OpenTable is four, I had to call to get it changed to eight. Due to the large party size, the restaurant also required me to give them my credit card info and be subject to a $25 per person no-show fee. Upon arrival, our tables were ready for us in the back corner near the open kitchen. The restaurant is true to its name with a shared bar and dining room space that evoke the feel of a wood tavern. Here's what we had: Wine of the Day * Rosé (100% Zweigelt), Stefan Pratsch, Niederösterreich, Austria, 2024 ($16) "N/A Libations" and other drinks * Cherry Bomb! non-alcoholic cocktail ($13) - Tilden Lacewing, Amarena cherry, lime, ginger beer, tall glass * Shirley Temple ($5) * Diet Coke ($5) * Iced Tea ($4) Soup & Salad * Red & Golden Beet Salad x2 ($16 each, one with fish added for $8) - frisee, castelfranco, pistachios, orange segments, Laura Chenel goat cheese, Cara Cara orange vinaigrette Sandwiches * The Hot Pastrami x2 ($25 each) - Emmentaler cheese, Dijon-horseradish dressing, La Farine baguette Old Reliables * Seafood Stew ($32) - rock cod, Manila clams, PEI mussels, calamari, butter beans, fennel, leeks, chili flakes, garlic toast * Pork Ragu Casarecce ($30) - Castelvetrano olives, Pecorino Romano, Grana Padano, chili flakes, parsley * Tavern Burger with French Fries on Acme Soft Bun with All the Fixins x3 ($25 each, two with cheddar added for $2 each) Everything was excellent. As for what to order, I recommend all of the dishes we got. It really just depends on what you like and/or what you're in the mood for. Everyone loved the food. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, the pastrami was one of the best I've had anywhere, my mom raved about the seafood stew, my brother-in-law gobbled up all of the casarecce, and the burger was outstanding. Service was polite and speedy. Our server Sophia C was awesome. We split one of the salads and the stew, so they came out plated and served in half portions which was nice of the kitchen staff to do.

I've had their Spicy Hog, steak with mushroom, a few Cubans, but the one that I always come back to is "The Balls" sandwich. First off, this sandwich is massive, so be sure that you come here on an empty stomach. These beef meatballs are seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. The balls are covered in their red sauce with provolone and Grana Padano, which gives it that nutty and salty flavor that pairs extremely well with the meatballs and baguette. All the juices and cheese just get soaked up to perfection. The baguette bread they use is supplied by La Farine, which is just a few meters away from each other. Just putting out there that La Farine is hands down one of the best bakeries in Oakland, so it makes sense that this sandwich would be so dang good. I'll be honest that I'm not a big fan of the chips or those chips in general and could be fine with just the sandwich. If you are going to have any sandwich to eat here first, I would highly recommend you try "The Balls" because I promise you will not be disappointed. I will always say that the dozen or so times I've been here, the staff are always so friendly, and the atmosphere is very down to earth. The price of their sandwiches is in the $20 range, but the quality and portion make it totally worth it.

A search on this website resulted in Marica having it on their menu. He booked a 7:30 PM reservation for two. We arrived early. What started out as a not too pleasant experience for us was the attitude of the guy who greeted us when we entered the restaurant. Attitude bordered on rudeness (3 star). We somewhat tolerated it, not knowing what to expect next. The restaurant was filled with diners, and the only available seating was not far from the front door. Oh, the chill was in the air, and my not wearing a sweater and/or light jacket to stay warm had me shivering. I had to brave the element (LOL). Since there was no Chilean sea bass on their daily special menu, it took a little longer for my companion and I to peruse the menu, and decide what entrees we were willing to have. Usually I would order an Arnold Palmer as a beverage; however, this time I decided to be adventurous - reisling peach spritz please - to whet my appetite. My date had the Temescal pilsner. Eats: Grilled salmon arange ginger saffron blanc beurre, roasted potatoes and vegetables. Korean short ribs, honey garlic gochujang marinade, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Our meals were on point and bomb-diggity delicious. The arange ginger saffron was perfect with the carrot. It reminded me of glazed carrots. The green beans were fresh and not overcooked. Ooh, the Korean pork ribs were tender and that sauce was sweet and had a subtle kick of spiciness. (Definitely a perfect complement for the pork ribs.) I have to admit the chef knew how to burn. Food tasted so good that figuratively speaking y'all gotta slap the cook and his mama. Ambiance: Comfy and casual. Despite the dining area is small, still it is a great restaurant for dining on a Friday evening. From my perspective and vivid imagination with the indoor lighting, it exuded a romantic atmosphere. Only in my mind I can hear soft jazz in the background. What convinced me to give Marica a 5 star rating? It was none other than Enriqueta, our waitress. She was pleasant, attentive and so accommodating. The chef lost our order ticket; thus, the wait time for our meal took a bit longer than we anticipated. She came to the rescue and comped us with dessert - chocolate souffle with homemade vanilla ice cream. It certainly was a gesture of kindness to have my date and me smiling from ear to ear. Return visit? Yes, mos def...not the rapper for Chilean sea bass. Enriqueta said I can always call to find out what their daily special is.

I was a little bummed we didn't get to sit in the lower dining room like I booked on our reservations. It was still cute upstairs and good company always makes brunch even better. The servers were quick and helpful. I wanted something light so I just ordered the chicken and waffle bites. Our total for 2 entrees and 2 drinks was $60 before tip. We ordered two drinks (orange juice and an iced mocha) which were provided promptly. The orange juice was a little too sour and my mom had to add some sugar to improve the taste. The iced mocha was good, not too sweet. One thing to note the wait for our food took much longer than expected, and it may have been due to how busy it was. My mom opted to order the salmon yuzu benedict and I got an egg plate (scrambled eggs) with a side green salad. My mom mentioned the potatoes lacking salt but she enjoyed the salmon benedict. I thought the scrambled eggs were good, but slightly bland & needed salt and pepper. The side green salad was alright, but the vinaigrette had a bitter aftertaste. Overall, the meal was pretty good and timing wasn't the best. I'd likely return for brunch on a non-peak day. Definitely recommend joining the yelp waitlist prior to arriving if you can!

As soon as you walk in, you're hit with the smell of a campfire from the oven. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with an Art Deco design. The ambiance is cozy but elevated. Benedict (buttermilk biscuit, dungeness crab cakes, marinated swiss chard & beet greens, herbed hollandaise, poached eggs & mixed greens): I'm not a huge benedict person because they can feel heavy, but this one was fantastic. I loved the textures and flavors of the crab cakes pairing with the greens and vegetables. It felt balanced and not too creamy or exhausting to eat. It definitely stands out from the run-of-the-mill brunch benedict. Vegetable Hash (roasted sweet potatoes, garnet yams, sunchokes, cauliflower, cremini mushrooms, celery root & onion, savoy spinach & poached eggs): This was also delicious and also set itself apart from the standard brunch hash. I loved the different vegetables in it besides being just potatoes and onions. The mushrooms and root vegetables worked really well together. Everything was well-seasoned. I'm glad we ended up choosing these dishes even though neither were my original top choices (I decided on the menu with my friend). It made me feel like you can choose anything and it'd be a banger. We were quite full from these dishes, and we forget we also ordered beignets to come out last. They were fluffy and mostly air (but not in a bad way). The service throughout the meal was good. We were checked on from time-to-time and our waters were refilled, although I wish the water glasses were a little bigger. One small thing to note was that we were given the check while we were still eating, even though the restaurant was still seating people despite it being close to closing time. Unsure if/why we were rushed like this. Overall, this was a memorable brunch spots I've been to in the Bay (dare I say one of the best?). We left smelling like a campfire. I would recommend it.

Arrived at around 7pm w/o a reservation and had to wait for roughly 40 minutes which wasn't too bad. Lucky for me there is a little bar down the street and I had a little drinky drink. When I got the call from The Wolf, I finished up and rushed over. I was sat at my favorite place in a restaurant...The bar. Its my favorite spot to people watch. OK drinks! I so I had the Coming to the Cottage. First off, the drink itself is so pretty. I love a drink in an unconventional color. It was delicious too. To start, I had the little Gem Salad. It was so good, but i'm super biased. This one had dill, radish and a yummy dressing. Super solid. For my main, I had the duck and it was so yummy. It came in a great sauce and cooked perfectly medium rare. Super fun time over at The Wolf! I totally understand the hype of this place. Great food and great service.

You cannot go wrong with their menu. Our table got the oysters, roasted beets, French fries, Brussels sprouts, and sourdough bread (comes with a delectable dipping sauce/oil). For dinner, two got halibut, one burger, and I got the fried rice. Everyone's dishes were wiped clean! The pacing of the restaurant makes you really enjoy your dinner, the company, and the energy. They bring new plates and silverware to you at each course, which is a nice touch. The waiter, I wish I got this name was fantastic. You could tell he loves hospitality. So kind, explained the menu, gave recommendations and made the whole experience lovely. The service was phenomenal. For dessert we got the chocolate cake, mango cake, and the mint ice cream. Everything was so good. I look forward to dining here again! We only got pictures of the dessert!

We even had chips left after eating all the dip, how often does that happen? The steak salad was done perfectly. Would have been nice to have a side plate to cut the meat but we figured it out. The El Gordito Pizza had a great crust and very tasty sauce, just right amount of ingredients. Held up nicely when picked up. Soft drink selection was ok. Really liked the brewery list for beers but come on, know which beer it is from each brewery. How many Hazy IPA does Ghost Town make or West Coast IPA does Original Pattern brew? Asked the waitress to check the keg and she came back and said it was an India Pale Ale. Slap my head! Overall, a very solid experience.

I am still underwhelmed and here is why. I wanted a Bloody Mary and asked if they could make one since it wasn't on the cocktail menu. They brought me a glass of vodka & tomato juice with olives and a lemon wedge. No seasoning of any kind. The server proudly said he made it himself. Is there no bartender in this place? I ordered an omelette, which comes with potatoes. I asked if I could have some toast. The server seemed completely flummoxed by this request and unsure if it could be done. I said never mind. What kind of American brunch spot doesn't have toast? The omelette was supposed to come with sour cream on the side. Instead it was smeared along one half of the omelette, which looked bad and was annoying because I wanted the sour cream for the potatoes, not on the eggs. Other than that, the food was fine. No one ever came to take our dirty dishes away. They were still sitting there when we left. Final straw: we were never presented with an actual bill; instead the server came by with a handheld device that showed only the total-- with an 18% tip already included. I normally tip 20% anyway, but there should have been a notice on the menu about an automatic gratuity for a party of 2, and I would have appreciated being able to see the actual itemized bill. The food was fine-- nothing memorable but fine-- but overall this experience was not worth $95 (for two brunch entrees and two cocktails.). If I'd received the same level of food and service at a cheap diner I would have been OK with it, but at this price there are far better places to spend your money.

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Would come back to try other items, especially dessert.

There was no wait time and we were able to get a table. The server was very sweet. I am vegetarian and was looking for veg options. She went through the menu with me and helped me think through. I got the vegan spicy tomato pizza and my friend got the shakshouka. We also got some herbal tea to go on the side. The tea came out pretty quickly and tasted great. The food also came out pretty quickly. The presentation of the pizza was top notch and I could not wait to dig in. The portion size was adequate. The vegan cheese was yummy and the spice level of the pizza was just right. The pizza was packed with flavor and thin crust! My friend liked the shakshouka too. He said it was flavorful and tasted great! Over all, we loved this restaurant. The ambiance is very welcoming and they have farm to table concept.
