Creekwood is a great restaurant to get a post workout protein fix. I come here and order the meatball plate. It's $20 and you get a plate packed with meatballs. There's a delicious red sauce on the meatballs that apparently they cook overnight. Love the interior. Nice comfortable place to sit. But I mostly come alone like I said after my workout. My friend and I went on a Thursday for dinner. We arrived early, a little before 5 pm. We were greeted immediately and shown to a booth. It is a small restaurant with tables and several booths by the window. They also have outdoor patio service. We ordered a half dozen Point Reyes oysters on the half shell. They were very fresh. The crispy Brussels sprouts were nicely cooked. My friend ordered the black cod and I ordered the crab with pasta in white sauce. We also ordered a glass of Chardonnay and a glass of Sancerre. The black cod was delicious. I found my pasta dish a bit bland. We shared a piece of carrot cake. It was very good, moist, just sweet enough with a perfect frosting. The service was attentive. It is a very noisy restaurant. The staff was moving furniture around at the beginning. I asked to have the music lowered in volume. The servers were all quite friendly and happy to help. We were seated and ordered a few beers, brussel sprouts, pork chop, steak, gnocchi, campanelle, and burrata. A lot of people don't know that the City of Berkeley sits on top of a number of creeks. Long before the city was built, these creeks flowed bringing vibrant life and beauty to the region. I loved the pork sausage ragu w/ touches of broccolini topped w/ pecorino and fennel. Honestly when I first saw on the menu that it was lightly topped w/ fennel seeds, I got nervous. Of course I had to come back here to try some new dishes since the last time we were here we enjoyed our food. We like doing brunch so this place had a good menu for brunch. We got here about an hour after opening and it wasn't that busy at all. We sat down and the waitress came by to see if we wanted some waters which we did. We ordered the meatballs appetizer and then the mimosa special which was a bottle of sparkling and a carafe of OJ for $45. A great way to start the day and for the price you can't beat it. The meatballs came out and they were just as good as I remembered. Tender, juicy, and a great marinara sauce. For our entrees we ordered the pastrami Benedict and the egg sandwhich with bacon. Our order came out pretty quick which you expect since it wasn't busy. My egg sandwhich was delicious, the bread was light, the eggs were fluffy, the bacon was cooked crispy which I like, and the potatoes were also cooked perfect crispy like I like. Landed here in our search for blue cheese and pear pizza BUT we missed it by like six months. The pizza they're offering now is the blue cheese and PEACH pizza. Anyway, we felt it was a well crafted pizza.. rich smell of blue cheese.. the peach slice flavors also really popped when I ate them individually. If I do have to nitpick, the pancetta was a toss up. I felt it was too dry and crunchy; my wife loved it because of the texture. Highly recommend this pizza though! I ordered the speck pizza. I'm not too impressed with this one because I'm not getting consistent flavors with every bite. The smoked prosciutto usually disappear from the first bite leaving you with nothing else. read more

Lovely and accommodating wait staff. I always appreciate an offer of a glass of wine when you're waiting to be seated. The good was delicious. Not sure what they put in this brussel sprouts but wow. Crisp and salty sweet. I had the burrata salad with citrus and cumquats. Disappointed in two tiny cut up cumquats and two bites of arugula. I asked the waiter for more greens and he accommodated easily and promptly. Everyone else at our table loved their food. My only complaint about the space is how loud it is. On a whim, my family opted to dine here on the night of the Super Bowl; and, in true American fashion, the restaurant was barren with many would-be patrons busy spectating one of the biggest nights of gridiron football at home. After getting pretty much immediately seated, our waitress kindly took our orders and offered us still water for the table. The appetizers (Caesar salad and burrata) arrived pretty quickly. The Caesar salad, while pedestrian, was still good and delightfully yet mildly fishy with the anchovy dressing. The burrata was a measly portion, given the whopping $20 price tag, but, the candied kumquats and citrus slices that adorned the sides still paired nicely with the creamy cheese. For our entrees, we ordered the decadent Wagyu ribeye, a lasagna, and a blue cheese pizza. My gripe with the steak is that the bordelaise sauce drowned out the sumptuous, tender piece of meat, overwhelming an already rich cut with unnecessary flavor. Not a fan. The pizza was good but simply cannot contend with the abundance of great Bay Area pizzerias. I appreciated the heap of arugula that sat atop though. And, lastly, the lasagna was just okay but too mushy to see any discernible layers. Honestly, I probably won't return. The establishment touts an Opentable Diner's Choice award as well as a fairly high Yelp rating, but I'm not sure if I can attest to the accolades. The service was great though. My wife Ellie and I stumbled upon Creekwood while visiting Berkeley this evening, and it turned out to be the perfect find -- the kind of dinner that reminds you why you love going out. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere struck us: warm wood and metal, thoughtful lighting, casual yet genuinely refined. Someone with real design sensibility had a hand in this place. The bar is great for drop-ins, the staff was wonderful throughout, and the ingredients in everything we ordered were fresh and inventive. We started with the winter salad -- kale, pear, endive, lightly dressed -- and it was exactly right. The mushroom pizza was delicious. Ellie had a glass of California Chardonnay and I had a Tuscan red blend; both were excellent choices for the evening. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Greg, who has connections to Sonoma wine country -- and it was genuinely fun to swap memories and talk shop. I came here because I saw Pear & Blue Cheese Pizza from some older reviews/menus and that's my favorite pizza combo I discovered in Italy. I was a little sad to find out that it was no longer on the current rotation and it switched to Peach & Blue Cheese ($23), but gave it a try anyways. The pizza came, and I could immediately smell the pungent blue cheese odor. And I absolutely loved it! An issue I have at a lot of pizza places is that they never go heavy enough on the blue cheese, but that wasn't the case here. And although peach is a little different from pear, the overall pizza was still delicious and well made. This is a good place to dine out while in Berkeley. Just remember: it's in Berkeley so parking is going to be a challenge. There is 24 minute parking in front that expires after 6 pm, but you'll most likely need to circle the block in order to find a spot elsewhere. The food was delicious. We shared the meatballs to start and I thought they were better than any other location I've tried. I'm not a fan of a super tomato-y sauce. Theirs was great! My only complain is THE NOISE. My gracious! I felt like I was in SF and not Berkeley. I'm not sure if tables were pushed together to accommodate large parties. There were two groups of 5+ next to us so I'm sure that added to the volume. Families always talk over each other and the get louder and louder. Husband and I are in Berkeley for the night and took to Yelp to find a good place for dinner. Creekwood it was! We had a reservation for 7pm but arrived a bit early. We were greeted immediately by the owner who was happy to accommodate us right away. The place is small but the ambiance is great. Got a little loud at times but nothing that really bothered us. We decided on the golden beet salad, little gem salad, and the Italian sausage pizza. They asked if we'd like to have the salads out first, to which we said yes, and we requested a bit of extra char on the pizza. The salads were great. My husband liked his beet salad a lot and it ended up being too much to finish. My little gem salad was really good, and really different. The heads of lettuce were served whole, but they were tiny and super cute! There was probably 6-7 heads of little baby lettuce. It came with sliced fingerling potatoes, crispy pancetta, red onion, Parmesan, and a soft egg. So good!! The crème fraiche vinaigrette was different but very tasty. I really enjoyed that salad, though it was a bit of work to cut up each head of lettuce. Our pizza was a bit smallish but it was good. Our only complaint was that the dough they used was very bland and pretty lacking. But the sauce and sausage were really tasty. Service was very attentive throughout.
