Summer moon gets the ole' Bar Rescue stress test every day, and they're doing a great job. Always busy. The quality of my coffee is never affected by the influx of people in the morning going about 3-4 times a week during business days. The only improvement that I can think of is the separation of where coffee is picked up for customers who order in store vs. those online. It creates a crowd of people at the pickup bar. Maybe putting up a screen that faces people to show whose coffee is ready for pickup. I don't know, anyways amazing coffee highly recommend. read more

When I first walked in I was surprised by how busy it was (it was a Sunday morning though). I planned on doing work there so I found a spot first and then ordered later because, honestly I was a little overwhelmed and wasn't sure about the line. I got the Half Moon latte with an extra shot of espresso (for free!) and it was perfect! problem finding a seat to get some work done. Maybe I'll try the Wintermoon or another one of their drinks next time. Wait time was quick despite a lot of people and staff was super friendly and open to questions about the menu! Most people got their orders to go, so it was a quick in an out. I think the place could be a little more organized/welcoming for first timers, but everything else was great! Their Moon Milk is disgustingly sweet and I'm pretty confident it's just condensed milk. I have to specify that they use unsweetened milk anytime they make my coffee because they seem to add it to everything. The coffee itself is okay once they use normal milk, but it is nothing to write home about. Aside from that, my review isn't low because of their coffee. My major issue is with the customer service and the lack of logistics they have when making coffee. Not sure if it's a lack of training or what, but the staff seem to constantly be running around in a panic, which often leaves no one at the register. I've been here a few times and have seen long lines that were not being attended to because they were franticly trying to figure out orders. I don't understand how they fail to notice long lines forming; they will just completely ignore people or stop taking orders because they're doing something else. It also takes AGES to get your order once it's in. I don't think they have any system to how they make orders, because they are always backed up with orders and are constantly forgetting orders. I would avoid this place if you are looking to get quick coffee to go because every time I go it takes about 15 minutes to get anything. What prompted me to write this review was an incident today where it took 25 minutes for me to get my order. When I asked about it after noticing everyone behind me had gotten their orders already, the staff kinda gave me a blank look and was like "Uh.....what did you order?". I repeated my order and she wrote it on the cup and put it AT THE BACK OF THE LINE while they were making new orders. There were at least 10 drinks in front of mine. I got upset and made her make it right in front of me because I refused to wait any longer. Not only did they forget my order, but instead of offering to quickly correct the issue she just tossed the cup on the counter and said it would eventually get made when all the other orders in front of me were done. Uhm. No. I should have had it ages ago! When I made her make mine first, she got a real nasty attitude and slammed it down on the table after making it. In fact, no one in this place smiles at you. They act like it's a chore to make your coffee and like they're doing you a favor for taking your order. AND THEY CHATTER CONSTANTLY WITH EACH OTHER. Like I will literally watch them stop everything they are doing to gossip or talk to a customer/friend for ages. No wonder your lines go out the door. Also, the staff are too lazy to add a lid and straw to your drink so you have people crowding the counter to try and get lids, which ends up with coffee sloshing all over the counter. Pure and utter laziness. While I honestly hate the Starbucks coffee nearby, I go there simply because I get my order promptly and the staff are always extremely polite. It's a shame because I really wanted to like this place; however, I don't see them getting my money anytime soon. read more

Fell in love with Summermoon on my first visit way back when at their South First location (I think around 2008 or 2009). Now, by some miracle, there's a Summermoon right down the street from my place. And although hot coffee is my preference, their Frozen Hot Chocolate is among my most ordered drinks there. It's (per their menu) "a rich and creamy chocolate milkshake that tastes like Hot Chocolate. Infused with Moon Milk, it is sweet and delicious. Add whipped cream to make it even more amazing!" And I always add the whipped cream! But when in the mood for something less on the sweet side, their coffee without anything added is straight-up out of this world! The flavors notes from the oak they roast their beans with giving​​ their coffee a smokey flavor unmatched by any other joint around​! I love love love Summermoon coffee. The service however, is becoming a problem by a select few staff. I live very close to this location, so I come a few times week since they opened. I keep getting lukewarm lattes and rude service. For $5.00 that better be damn good, which it is - but room temp = nasty! Even when there's no one in the shop, they're super slow, mostly apathetic and bathroom needs looking after. I shouldn't have to wait as long as the Domain location- esp since there's hardly anyone there. What gives ya'll!? I don't need you to remember my name, but at least a "thank you" or being pleasant. I'd rather come here than Starbucks. Please get better so I can give you my money in exchange for good coffee and service. I went. I drank. I left. It was one fine mid-afternoon. I came by to try the raving half-wintermoon. My first reaction to it was, "Ew. This tastes like watered down coffee with toooooo much cream&sugar." My second reaction was for me to lie to my bf saying that it tasted good because I really begged him to come here on our trip to Austin days before our trip. Maybe I'm being too harsh. I've done here several times now and have always loved it! It's usually filed with people more often than not, but I don't blame them for coming to sip on the best coffee ever. There is limited seating, indoor and out, so you're lucky if you find a place to sit and chat or study! Noise level is that of a typical cafe. Coffee: summermoon/wintermoon are a MUST. It is pretty sweet, so if you aren't about that life, try the halfmoons. If not, any coffee is really truly frraking delish. I always help myself to their lemon poppyseed loaves! The coffee here with its moonmilk is so so good. Though many coffee shops were in the area, I ended up coming here 2x in 2 days when I was in Austin. I happened upon one location and after my first sip, was immediately sad that I didn't think I'd be able to come back since it was far from where I was staying, but lucky for me I discovered there was a second location near me. Yay! So I tried both the quarter wintermoon with almond milk and the blue wintermoon (moon milk w lavender) and both were so good. The perfect amount of sweetness, smooth, full flavor and on par with my other coffee fav, Philz. Also tried a couple breakfast burritos which was a nice snack. Wintermoon is easily one of the best iced lattes I ever had. Must be whatever they put in their moon milk which is most likely condensed milk and other sugary amazing stuff. Next time I'll probably go for the Half Moon to cut the sweetness. Just a personal preference. Ambiance and environment is really good for those productive days. Can you say moving on up!!! Plus it's closer to my house. I haven't had a bad drink here yet. THE BEST CHAI LATTES IN TOWN HANDS DOWN! & I've tried them everywhere. It can be ordered either spiced or vanilla I believe but I've always gotten the vanilla. It's the perfect amount of sweetness! They have a huge mix of coffee & non coffee selections both hot & cold but not too many food options. I tired the wintermoon once which is an ice coffee drink & its PRETTY SWEET! Even for an everything sweet loving girl like myself. Will probably order a half wintermoon next time. My friends typically get the mocha drinks & they love them too! This place is pretty jumpin so seating can be a mad dash if you plan on staying there for long periods of time. If you're just stopping in for a drink then you'll be fine. Barista with the bulging green eyes and messy grundge look has an extremely horrible attitude to be at the front. I walked in and the touch pad was turned so I selected what I wanted. She approached me and starts berating me, "You don't do that. We do that for you! It's company policy, you'll never get your drink that way." "Oh okay, the pad was facing me, I thought I'd just place my order," I responded. "That's not how it works here, we put your drink in!" She said witha scowl and roll of her eyes. When she turned the touch pad back towards me to sign she flipped it so hard it went back to her. She was visibly triggered by my innocent mistake. By looking at the reviews it appears that this location is declining at a rapid pace. I LOVE SummerMoon coffee but I will not be returning to this location, because of her. The pick up area was a complete disaster as well. I understand they get busy but there are seven baristas and not one is cleaning up. I've noticed that each summermoon has a different ambience to it - either a very well-lit store more ideal for studying or a darker, more "austin-y" vibe. This particular location is what I would categorize as "austin-y" with darker colored furniture and less natural lighting. I ordered a peppermint mocha moon, and I enjoyed it. They didn't have the matcha moon or autumn moon on the menu, but I saw people order these! So I'm thinking if you know of these items, they can make it for you. I absolutely love this place! Like all the other reviewers have mentioned before, it's a must to get their moon drinks. I got the summer moon latte and it was so incredibly delicious. It's a must for those who love their coffee creamy, smooth, and sweet. I think I would have preferred the half moon latte because the summer moon was a bit too sweet for me. I love how they separate their HOT and COLD drinks so that there's no confusion between the different moon drinks. I also saw some people getting milkshakes aka the "moon glacier" which I thought was interesting. There is really every drink you can possibly think of here. The only downsides I could think of for Summermoon would be the long line (almost to the entrance door) and expensive prices for the drinks ($4 for a latte). I came here on a Sunday afternoon to study for a couple hours and I think this might be my new favorite coffee shop in Austin. For starters, there's a decent sized parking lot out front with tons of spots, so it's very convenient to get in and out of. When I came, the place was pretty packed, but I was still able to find a seat (they have tons of seating options). They make this specialty "Moon Milk" that they can add to their drinks, and I highly recommend it. It's a bit on the sweeter side, so I'd recommend getting the Half Moon (half moon milk, half regular milk) to start if you don't want it to be too sweet. I got the Half Moon Latte, and it was incredible! They also have a ton of other drink options and food. Wifi is fast, there's a lot of places to sit and study/chill, and the ambience is great. Popped in here on a Sunday morning and there was a huge line! It went by pretty quickly and I was able to place my order with the friendly barista! I ordered a full wintermoon which is a latte: a shot of espresso and the rest with their house made sweetened "moon milk." I also ordered an extra shot because I ordered the 20oz. It was really delicious and creamy. I would definitely come back but maybe go for the 3/4 or 1/2 moon to scale back on the sweetness. If you like coffee and tacos and other baked goods go here. It's the same as the south location, but newer and larger. Way more sitting space, and just space in general. They also have bathrooms inside, unlike the south location. The moon milk coffee is a thing of legend in Austin and it's finally available in north Austin. The tacos are brought in from outside, but they are delicious. The baristas are also a lot friendlier here than the south location. Get a coffee here and you won't regret it! read more

I've come here multiple of times now, and this is hands down one of my favorite coffee shops in Austin! [Service] Baristas are always nice and friendly whenever I visit here. Usually people come here to study, but I personally come here only to meet up with friends or when I go on a quick coffee date with my boyfriend. I don't know why but I'm obsessed with pretty brick walls, and this did not disappoint me at all. Summer Moon Coffee bar is a great addition! I love their wood fired beans. Something a little different. While I find their coffee blend a bit too overpowering done as espresso, it is fantastic as an iced coffee! I sometimes will splurge and add some of their special moon milk. The moon milk is delicious but VERY sweet. It is a special blend of secret ingredients that they make themselves. I found out that I can just ask them to reduce the level of sweetness when ordering a drink with moon milk (Very cool!). I also love their affrogato's with Lick ice cream. A great little treat on a hot afternoon. The space is warm and relaxing. They have free wifi and a good seating area to sit down and get some work done.
