I highly recommend making a reservation, and it was definitely necessary the day we came since the high wind and rain warnings caused Heart to close all their outdoor seating. This means a lot less availability, but they worked with what they had and despite having to move us a couple times when we first got there, they got us at a nice table by the time we were just starting our tasting. Besides the delicious wine, you need to ORDER THE FOOD from Seaside where their food menu is from! The sliders and arancini were so so delicious. We will be back to pair our wine with this great food again (and hopefully get to sit outdoors next time!).

Hospitality is far more than delivering food and wine it is making every guest feel genuinely welcomed, valued, and cared for. When your name carries the legacy of Hearst, those standards should be even higher. The setting at Hearst Ranch Winery in San Simeon is undeniably beautiful. The oceanfront views are spectacular and make it a destination worth visiting. Unfortunately, the hospitality did not match the stunning location. This was our first visit, and sadly, it will more than likely be our last. Throughout our visit, it was evident that some guests received warm, attentive hospitality while others, including us, received only the minimum level of service. Hospitality should never feel selective. We ordered a charcuterie board, and after waiting approximately 30 minutes, I finally asked our server about it. Only then were we informed that we were expected to walk across to the General Store, pick up the board ourselves, and bring it back to the winery. We were also told that the winery kitchen is closed on Mondays and that the host had apparently been confused when taking our order. Had this been communicated at the time of ordering, the misunderstanding and the lengthy wait could have been avoided entirely. The apology we received felt disingenuous and lacked the ownership that transforms a service failure into a positive recovery. Mistakes happen in every hospitality business. What guests remember most is how those mistakes are handled. Hearst Ranch Winery has an extraordinary location and a name synonymous with excellence. I sincerely hope leadership reinforces that every guest deserves the same level of warmth, professionalism, and hospitality from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave. Beautiful views may bring people through the doors, but exceptional hospitality is what brings them back.

The friendly staff and owner greeted us warmly upon arrival and gave us permission to walk through the vineyard. It was a joy watching the playful doggies and children running around, free-ranging chickens and sheep. A good wine starts with a land blessed by happy little feet and hard working hands. Unfortunately, the wines did not suit our tastes. Given the owner's pedigree as a sommelier, our expectations were high. I've always been a bit skeptical of organic wines, and the six wines in the flight confirmed my prior experiences. They all had a vinegar-like taste--imagine what a wine kombucha would taste like. You'd think there would be at least one wine that was good, but we didn't find one that we enjoyed. The atmosphere, however, was amazing! We loved the farm environment with a beautiful lawn and tons of room for kids to run around. Dogs are welcome, too! Our server, Stephanie, was also very nice and knowledgeable about the wines. Please know that this is just two people's opinion on the wines. Lots of people must like these wines given the reviews. Again, nice place , nice people, but it was tough to drop $70 on two tastings and not find one wine that we wanted to buy.

I tried to ask someone one time where the tasting room is and they weren't very friendly. But now it is very clearly marked and I was easily able to find it on my own this time. You can tell it's been newly remodeled. My friends and I decided to do the tasting. All of us like white wine only. They have a few selections but of course the one I really wanted to try wasn't available that day. And that was ok. They gave me 6 tokens to give one each time i wanted my next tasting. Well sine they didn't have one of the wines I wanted and white wine was more limited I asked if I could turn in two chips for two tastings of the same wine. And I did this also so I didn't have to come in and bother them as soon for another pour of the same thing. I was told they don't do that .... But then they did. It just doesn't make sense to me. I also was trying to be nice and I just felt like she was wasn't super friendly. This place has a gorgeous set up outside. They have nice comfy seating or high top tables which overlook the rolling green hills. This time of the year is absolutely beautiful. I can see the warmer months not being as pretty because I'm sure everything turns brown. I also loved watching the animals down below. The scenery was so majestic. I will definitely be back again. This will probably be on my list of "must visits" every time I visit Cambria. There are just certain places you that you always remember and must go back to, and this is one of them for me.

Our tasting guide definitely knew her stuff and I appreciated all the time she's put in with Sculpterra! I loved how they grew pistachios too and have them for purchase to enjoy with your wine. The outdoor area was beautiful and it was fun to check out the big photos and play some bocce pall. The grounds are gorgeous, the sculptures throughout the property are genuinely impressive, and the music and scene were a great backdrop. The wine itself seemed perfectly decent. But the experience on the ground was bad enough that none of that mattered by the time we left. We didn't have a reservation, that's on us. But the website says reservations are recommended, not required, so we figured we'd try anyway. From the moment we walked in, it was clear we weren't wanted. The hostess hustled us into a side room, then walked off, at which point a server immediately told me -- not pleasantly -- that I was standing in the wrong place. When I asked about a few wines I was interested in, I was met with a clear lack of interest, capped off by being rudely told to just get a glass of muscat, like the suggestion was as much about getting rid of me as it was a recommendation. So that's what we did, and then we left. We tasted at several other wineries in Paso Robles that day and had wonderful experiences at every one of them. Staff who were warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to have us, reservation or not. Sculpterra was the only stop where we walked away having spent next to nothing, and it's the only place on the entire trip we'll never go back to, no matter how nice the grounds are. Beautiful property, but the people working the floor that day made it clear they didn't want our business, so we obliged.
