I was quoted $90 for a basic adapter--far above normal pricing. After I questioned it, they agreed to reduce the charge by $60, but only knocked off $30 in the final bill. More frustratingly, part of the reason I agreed to the repair was their assurance that it would restore connectivity to my stereo. It didn't. When I brought this to their attention, their response was dismissive and unprofessional--essentially telling me "tough luck," with no attempt to stand by their work. They also performed services I never explicitly authorized, and only informed me of a $60 increase in the cooling fan price after the work had begun--leaving me with no meaningful opportunity to make an informed decision. What's worse, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being taken advantage of as a woman. The way I was spoken to, disregarded, and overcharged raised red flags that I believe many women will unfortunately recognize. It was condescending and exploitative. Between the inconsistent pricing, unauthorized work, failed repairs, and dismissive behavior, I left feeling unheard and taken advantage of. I won't be returning--and I urge others, especially women, to proceed with caution.

** 1/5 -- BEWARE!**…read more Decatur Auto Tech is the definition of a **rip-off shop**. I took my daughter's car in for an A/C issue -- an issue they had supposedly "fixed" not long ago. The car should've been under warranty, but they still tried to charge a **$75 diagnostic fee**. When I called them out on it, their **clueless front desk guy** awkwardly agreed to waive it. Spoiler: it was STILL on the final invoice. They kept the car overnight and then **called my daughter LATE at night** -- not even me -- to tell her the cabin filter needed replacing. When I followed up the next day, I was hit with a quote of **$290**. For what? Here's the breakdown: - $75 diagnostic fee (that was supposed to be waived) - $90 for a cabin filter (you can buy a good one for $20!) - $40 for two cans of freon - $160 in labor What makes it worse? **They did this same exact job the first time for $120.** How do you go from $120 to $290 for the SAME issue? This place is shady, dishonest, and clearly **preys on people who don't know much about cars** -- or who send their daughters in hoping for honest service. After reading more reviews, it's obvious I'm not alone. This place **thrives on deception** and **overcharges for basic work**. **Avoid Decatur Auto Tech like the plague.** They're not mechanics -- they're scammers in uniforms.

Instead of quoting labor for the actual work needed, I was given a $2,649 quote based on a template for a full clutch replacement, which includes parts I never authorized or needed like clutch disc, flywheel, pressure plate, etc. When I pointed out that I wasn't replacing any of those components, I was still told I'd have to pay 10.5+ hours of labor as if I was. The service advisor, Henry, refused to quote me based on the actual job. He acknowledged that I wasn't replacing the clutch, but still insisted on charging me full clutch replacement labor. I was also charged $240 for a diagnostic that involved assessing the transmission removed. Still then quoted nearly $3,000 just to reinstall it with a $9 pivot pin. When I asked for a breakdown based on the real work, I was told no. They would not adjust the quote, even though factory labor time for E36 trans R&R is around 5.5-6.5 hours. I walked away because I will not pay for parts and labor that aren't being performed. This experience with Henry, the service advisor, was disrespectful, misleading, and unprofessional. If you know anything about your car, beware as he expects you not to.

The repair for the "check engine light" would clear for approximately 2 weeks and reappear each time. THEY NEVER CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. Refuse to return a $15 overcharge and want us to deduct it from our next charge when we bring the car back to be repaired! This business was initially dependable about 18 months ago, but given the recent circumstances, I would advise you to choose a different car repair shop. They stated multiple times over the years that their "classic car guy" was an expert and could handle a classic car. For the first 5 years of living in atlanta, I took my classic mercedes here until they finally told me their classic car guy was leaving and they wouldn't touch my car going forward. Frankly, they did 5 years of changing my oil and nothing else but they'd charge me for what they called "regular maintenance". Regular maintenance on a classic car should include a lot more than just topping up the oil and calling it a day, but every time I'd mention knocking noises or brake issues or anything else to them, they wouldn't address it at all so I had no idea if they thought it was an issue or didn't. Finally 5 years later, thank god their classic car guy left, because I took it over to a place in Decatur and all of the things I had been worried about, they found a reason, they gave me a full breakdown online of what they recommended and why, they answered all of my questions, and I could pay the invoice online and feel good about it. Update: As of 9:30 p.m., Jacob, the owner, repeatedly called and texted me after my review. He first falsely claimed I'd only visited once four years ago, then offered to pay me, which I refused. After that, he pulled up what he claimed were years of invoices that were not real, despite the fact that I have the original receipts for my own transactions. Even after I repeatedly told him to stop contacting me, he continued until I had to block his number. Based on both my experience and his behavior afterward, I would never recommend this business.
