They do not nickel and dime you, they've loaned me gas cans when I needed instead of making buy one. I always trust the guys at Medlock Gulf with my car repairs! They never push unnecessary work and Paul has even told me a time or two that "you don't need that." However IF a finding is dangerous or could leave me stranded, they WILL emphasize this. At my recent checkup I was told the axles on my ancient-but-still-running-great 27yo Honda CRV were pretty much at the end of their life & could break at any time (something like that) I was grateful because I was planning on doing alotta far away highway driving in the coming week and it would have been awful if I was stranded on the highway (or ANYWHERE) so I was able to get that fixrd just in time thanks to them...The guys in the back are obviously excellent mechanics etc though I've never met them but know the front desk area crew well- Paul, Chris, Josh & Eddie-They really take care of their customers! read more

Went in for an oil/filter change and tire rotation: They added 40 lbs. of pressure to ea. tire. At startup when we left - the tire pressure light came on immediately. 2017 Honda Civic ES tire pressure is 32 lbs. - front and back. So, if they can't handle something that simple? I'd go elsewhere for just about everything. They also mouthed something about a fuel injector change? Total bs. Injectors with periodic fuel additive injector cleaner are most often good for 100k. This car presently has 32k. In the future? I might consider a tank of gas at Medlock - but that's about it. read more

My girlfriend just took our car into to have a simple valve stem replaced. They told her there was no tire pressure sensor, This isn't true. There was one and it was showing registering the pressure. That's how we knew the tire was leaking! They charged her $70+ for the part (one sensor), when they are about $30 for a set of 4. The whole bill was $144 when a new tire replacement was $190 from Firestone. It seems this place takes advantage of women and does work that is not necessary and way over charges. read more

This place was great! I called and asked if they could get me in for a morning oil change because I needed one. They let me take the first morning appointment. Showing up a few minutes early, I was nervous that they could be upset, but they provided friendly conversations and asked me about my car. I don't know much about it and they said it was ok. When I asked for them to look at my breaks (having a feeling that I needed new breaks), they called me first to let me know what they saw, what the cost could be, what they recommended if I was to choose to correct something, and kept me in the loop the whole time. Hello to all.... I wanted to say that the service I received at wasn't all that great overall because service means to ensure your customer is satisfied within reason because you simply can't please everyone no matter what you do.... Unfortunately I received service and was told the vehicle would be done at a certain time. Well upon retrieving the vehicle after it was supposedly fixed I drove off and the vehicle was doing the same thing. I mean the exact same thing and this was over 1500 dollars later. I turned around and took it right back and said hey this vehicle is doing the same thing. Now of course I was upset because of the distant I had to drive to come get the vehicle with Uber. Now on the 1st trip I wouldn't expect to charge the guy to retrieve my vehicle and me paying for Uber but this was a false trip I paid for this Uber ride. Well they took the vehicle back and I had to get another Uber back home. I told the gentlemen Paul can you at least refund my money for these Uber rides and he said no problem. I said great. Even though I was mad for all this back and forth at least he was willing to refund the funds for making a false trip or trips. I came the next time to get the vehicle and after I got near my home it started doing the Same thing. I took it somewhere else / another shop and told them what it was doing and they told me what the problem was but since I had given Gulf/Paul my money I said they needed to correct this and I'm not paying more to fix something that Gulf was suppose to fix. So what did I have to do....you guessed it....I had to drive back and take the vehicle wayyyyyyyy back out there again. Of course I was mad or a little upset. But more so upset because of the long trip back and when I did talk to Paul about my refund he said "oh yea our accountant was suppose to send that to you" I said Paul no one has called me nor have I received any refund. Because they was suppose to mail a check from our last discussion about it. It was my thought that him as the owner should follow up to see if the customer was satisfied and if the funds that "he" said they would credit was returned to the r customer. But that did not happen at all. Well after taking the vehicle back again he advised that it maybe something that was totally not the problem. When he gave me all the things they would have to do I told him I got another opinion from another shop and they told me exactly what the issue was. He asked where did I take it and what was the number as if I may have been lying possibly. So I gave him the name and shop number. Not sure if he ever called that shop but he never did all those additional things he mention the vehicle now needed. later they fixed the vehicle without all the additional things he said they'd have to do but I never got a call about my refund for my additional rides I had to take to get back out there with Uber. Not to mention I wondered why he said all those things but when I told them I got a second opinion none of those things were mention after they fixed it later. All I am saying is if your gonna tell the customer sure I understand and we should refund you your money since the vehicle wasn't fixed and I had to come back several times. Just follow up and make good on your word to the customer. For this I will never take my vehicle back to this shop as Paul / Gulf never followed up or made sure the customer "me" was satisfied. I could have indeed acted a fool but I simply retrieved my vehicle and asked if they were gonna take care of that refund and "again" he advised they would. Well everyone from that day to this day I have not heard back from Gulf /Paul. And this has now been several months. As a customer I'd be real skeptical about dealing with this shop or this company. Use at your own Risk! And as a Christian just as I made this comment, if they see this post and make good on it. I will repost and advise all customers they made good on their word eventually....but for some reason I don't think that will happen. read more

My old Wrangler was leaking coolant from somewhere, so I decided to trust my NextDoor feed for a service visit. Online reservations are a huge plus -- had it in their garage within two days. 5 minutes before they called me with the diagnosis, they texted me pictures of exactly where the leak was which allowed us in real-time to discuss and "look at" the issue. I'm driving this mother forever, so I told them to replace it with whatever they deemed semi-lifetime. Upon picking up my TJ, I discovered that they: 1) Charged me exactly the correct amount of labor hours for that fix. 2) Chose the absolute #1 model of radiator for my application (the manufacturer of radiators FOR the OEM part). 3) Charged me almost exactly what I would have paid by buying that radiator on Amazon my damn self. None of the employees were wearing masks the entire time I was there. Not wise in the middle of a pandemic. My car also smelled like body odor and cigarettes for a day after I got it back. My biggest issue (aside from the no-mask thing) is that one of the things I specifically pointed out was that my service engine light was on and I asked for that to be diagnosed & resolved. They just cleared the code, and it came back on just in time for me to fail emissions. I decided that Medlock Gulf was a wash and I wouldn't be returning, especially since it's incredibly irresponsible to interact with the public without wearing masks. I don't expect them to wear masks while they work on cars, but if you're talking to me or taking my payment, you should be wearing a mask at least until I walk out. For the follow-up work that I clearly needed, I took my car to Atlanta Car Care instead and got excellent service at a fair price at a place where they actually wear masks and sanitize your car before they give it back. read more

Never take your car to Medlock Gulf in Decatur. All I wanted them to do was get my A/C working and while in there install a new radiator, I could have installed the radiator myself but since it was in the shop already to have the air worked on I went ahead and had them do it all at the same time because I didn't want to go in there to replace the radiator after they fixed the air and bump a line and screw it all up. They messed up and did just that. As I was driving along my power steering went out because they moved some lines and not only did the belt cut thru clear my power steering line, it almost severed the a/c lines as well. Side note, they never actually fixed the a/c. The power steering went out while I was driving down the highway and it was very scary. Also went out the 2nd time while up in the mountains! So I ended up taking it back to them 3 times to fix this new steering issue, i was without my vehicle for months. Then I finally took it somewhere else and had it done properly for $2,000. I tried to sue them for the money to cover the repairs but the owner on record has been deceased for the past 3 years and renewing the business license and everything while deceased, but since he is deceased so he cannot be served. So not only was I out the money for the initial repairs (and the a/c quit working with a couple weeks and I had to take it elsewhere to be repaired too) but also had to spend an additional $2,000 for the damage they caused to the power steering system. ***Also my vehicle had been rummaged through while sitting on their side lot and stuff was stolen as well as blunt wrapper found and ash from where they had smoked inside my vehicle!!!! read more

So glad I lucked up on this place!! I have an older Blazer and had a great mechanic back in DC, so I thought I might have a hard time finding an honest one here in Atlanta that wouldn't try to take advantage of me and "my old Ruby" with costly repairs. Initially, I was headed elsewhere to have my car serviced, only to get there and learn they only worked on foreign cars. Welp, back to the drawing board! So I searched other auto repair places in the area and found Medlock Gulf. I came in for an oil change and to have my brakes checked, of course, only to discover that it was more than my brakes. But I appreciate that the guys here showed me exactly what was wrong and explained what was immediately necessary for safety. My car didn't pass the emissions test at a station that wasn't Medlock Gulf. I was left looking for a reasonable mechanic to see if the issue could be resolved. As my wife and I are recent Decatur transplants, we didn't know who to trust. She had been in for an oil change and a tune up. I called them and they gave me a price for the tests they were going to have to run (I have a Mercedes so it's going to cost you -- $112 or so to do a diagnostics test). Over the next couple of days, Medlock Gulf did a great job of giving me an honest opinion and future estimate of what repairs would cost. They were very upfront about the costs -- I paid the quoted diagnostics test for a Mercedes despite the fact that they worked on it for a few days (Again like $112). One of the best caveats is that they will shuttle you home if you drop your car off. The Exxon at West Paces is perhaps the best comparison I can give for this place. You get honest service at a reasonable price and they will keep you informed about what they are doing. read more

So grateful for this place! We had car trouble late Friday afternoon while coming into town from out of state and were worried about getting back home Sunday. Called these guys up Saturday morning, and they said to bring it right over. We didn't end up having them work on the car because the issue they found was the same that a previous mechanic said he had fixed, so we will bring it back to him to address the issue. Great customer service, but I do think they are a bit overpriced when compared to other places. They do have a shuttle service to take you to where you need to be and will pick you back up. I was charged $900 for brakes replacement and after I got my car back, the timing belt started to make noise and the steering wheel would lock in place whenever I made turns...not sure if just a coincidence or not. I took my car back in and the mechanic explained to me what was going on, but I am just not sure if I can trust that. read more

I feel that is my moral obligation to share my experience with everyone. I thought the best My Mechanics at Medlock Gulf Gas Station on Scott Blvd! I trusted them as a single mom with my car, until I took my car for an engine light that came on, and they said that it was probably my gas valve that needed to be replace after I picked my car up back in March 07, I was never Able to put gas in my car in a normal way because the pump would stop every 0.3 or 0.4 of the gallon (gas was not fun and could not do it if I was in a hurry) and Paul the owner said I told you the gas valve needs to be replace and that is about $800 and I always said I can't do it right now, it will have to wait, the COVID-19 got me out of work, and I could not afford it, but also I did not have to drive as much as I used to. Last Monday I went under my car to get my spare key and to my surprise a pair of pliers was on the gas hose, no wonder I could not get gas in it. I was so disappointed, I felt so betrayed, I went back to the Medlock and showed to Paul what I have found on my gas hose and he looked at me and said: Oh! Well. so what? And walked away. read more

Only tried these guys bc seemingly they had good reviews. Unfortunately my review is not. I spoke with an employee the day prior, told him what I needed done and he said no problem we can do it. I arrived at opening 630am. Expecting a call on price by 1200pm I called them just for a status update. They told me they are not able to repair the problem because they don't do the work. Yet 12hrs prior it wasn't a problem they insisted they could have it done in a day. Thing is they didn't even call to tell me. Also they knew b4 hand they couldn't fix the problem. So now I've wasted a whole day bc no shop will have it fixed and ready in 3hrs. I've missed work and now will have to miss another day. Boss is mad!! So am I...!!!!!!!!! Also they where pretty much holding my truck to find something else to fix. Then basically charging me!!! My Tahoe was having some brake issues, so I stopped by on Friday afternoon and made an appointment Saturday morning. They called me early that afternoon and told me my pads and rotors needed to be replaced- for $750 (a pretty solid price in my opinion). They finished the work then called and told me my alternator needed to be replaced, when I never had any problems with it. I balked at that and they said they would replace it at no charge. I picked me car up at 4pm that same day. I trust these guys and recommend them. UPDATE - I had to take my car back three times and they still have not fixed the problem. Each time I was told I had to drop over $1,000 to fix the issue. Not 100% their fault, but it seems that I wasn't being told the whole story. I still think they do good work, just my circumstances were a bit weird. read more

Paul, who I believe is the manager, is great! And so is the owner, who's name I can not remember- sorry. I came to them after I heard they were the guys that would help me get my old 95 Honda to pass emissions. Here's the story- I had gone to my husbands mechanic and was told I needed a new catalytic converter, paid 700 bucks and still couldn't get my car to pass emissions. Finally after 3 people told me to go to Medlock Gulf (previously Medlock Marathon) I did. They took me aside, told me that they did not like to speak poorly about other mechanics, but explained to me that I had in fact not been given a new converter from the other mechanic. He suggested that I take it back to the other mechanic and ask them to "put the old catalytic converter back on". So we did, and then we came back to Medlock Gulf and have been going there ever since- my husband also uses them now after learning our previous mechanic was not being honest. Long story short- these guys are honest, locally owned, and enjoyable to work with. They take their jobs seriously, and the gas is fair priced too. We finally found that fabled "trusted mechanic." Paul and his team at the Medlock Gulf are fair, reasonable, and completely trustworthy. A number of times, we have brought our car there, concerned about a potentially costly problem, only to have them tell us it's a quick, cheap fix, or not actually a concern at all. In other words, we've shown up fully prepared to open our wallets to them, and they've turned us away. How often does that happen? Most recently, they not only handled our repairs for us but actively advocated on our behalf when we had to fix a Jiffy Lube oil change that went really terribly awry. Paul got on the phone with Jiffy Lube's rep and helped us convince them that they needed to make our situation right. Without him, I seriously doubt that situation would have been resolved as well as it was. Overall, great service, friendly people, and fair prices. The only downside is they close kind of early (8pm) on weeknights, and aren't open for repairs on Sundays. read more
