I can't recommend this restaurant enough! If you've eaten seafood in northen east coast area, you'll feel at home here! The dinner was so fabulous we came back another night to try more of the menu. Service is attentive. Yuseph and Valerie were awesome. The fish was perfectly cooked! Chilean Seabass, Arctic Char, RH FISH STEW, grilled Barramundi.. just perfect! Cocktails was absolutely on point! The patio was lovely for an evening meal but the tables inside are lovely. Dress up or dress casual.. all welcomed graciously! TV's in the bar area that was a nice place for single diners. I was craving sushi so I stopped by here to try that all you can eat sushi. Upon arrival, there were not many tables and the restaurant was very dim with workers spread out throughout the restaurant on their phones. The price was cheap for AYCE, but unfortunately, so was the quality of fish. We ordered the crab rangoons to start, and they were soo good. The filling was perfect. The sushi was not the worst, but it was not great. Some nigiri had a fishier smell than other pieces which had us a bit concerned. Our server was sweet and helpful, but he kept forgetting our order or gave us sushi that we did not order. I think the price point is fairly 'what you pay is what you get'. There are no appetizers, soup, salads, etc. that come with the AYCE price. It is only nigiri, sashimi, special rolls, and hand rolls. read more

I have been enjoying Sumo since I was in high school, and the only reason I am giving this spot 2 instead of 5 stars is because of the poor service I recently encountered this past Sunday night. Do I need to pull a South Park and wear a shirt that says "I'm Yelp Elite" so businesses treat me better? A new hibachi chef just started about a week ago and he was beyond rude to me. I think he thought he was being funny, but he purposely threw a piece of runny egg on me and it ended up all over my hair. What's worse is I asked him not to throw it on me when he was aiming, and he proceeded to throw it anyway. I was beyond mad. The food was great, as usual, but the chef kept picking on me in the rudest way. After he served the fried rice on my plate, he asked me "What do you say?" and kept staring at me waiting for me to say "Thank you". I am beyond disappointed in this chef and absolutely turned off by the service. I usually enjoy the hibachi chefs who are very pleasant and fit in a tasteful amount of humor into their hibachi act, but this chef was awful and rude. Please train your staff to be respectful to customers. We did not tip this chef at all, but instead handed Kody, the owner's son, a tip and asked him not to share with the chef. Kody is always so nice to us whenever we come here. I still want to support this place, but the next time we come, we will be requesting a chef other than the one we had on Sunday. read more

My favorite thing to order at Sumo is their sushi. Their hibachi is ok, but not my favorite because it can be too greasy. The shows are ok. I went a few weeks ago and they try to make social distancing as safe as possible for dining in but I still think we are sitting way too close. They do a great job at accommodating toddlers because we had a couple of toddlers at the hibachi grill my family and I were at including my own toddler. The hibachi shows were not particularly their favorite. The wait staffs were kind enough to help distract my son. I thought their sushi is pretty good. Their spicy cowboy roll is delicious. They have a very nice selection of sushi both raw and cooked. If you're looking for a fun and family friendly dinner or celebration, Sumo is the place to go! Check them out. read more

I should have known by the outside appearance of this restaurant that the inside would be similar. Decor was old and the floors were super sticky. Not the cleanest of establishments. The food was sub-par compared to other local hibachi restaurants. I ordered the veggie plate and it had hardly any flavor and I was not offered any additional sauces to dip in. Okay let's start with the pros before we start with the cons. Gotta start with the good, right? Pros - if you're a UCO student, the value of the sets are just so good. You get 20% off. Get the maki combo - you get three rolls of the classic maki's, miso soup, AND a salad. For sushi - come on. That's three rolls, and two huge bowls of soup and salad for roughly 10$. Think this place is unbeatable for that. The miso soup was really good, and they give you a huge bowl of it too! And the salad was probably my absolute favorite. That carrot ginger dressing was amazing! A little on the watery side, but the flavor beats it all. I'm a happy kid. Alright cons though - the rice. I don't know about every other day, but that day itself, that rice was mushy. For a sushi store, mushy rice just isn't a good way to rep guys! But that salad, the soup, and the value... I'm just hoping it was a bad rice day. Seasoning with the rice could be better as well, but their fish was fresh, and their sauces were homemade so. The redeeming factor definitely beats the cons. I'm only giving 4 starts bc the bathroom was really dirty and that's gross!! This place is the definition of don't judge a book by its cover!!! YES the building is dated and the combo of fall/valentines/Christmas decorations made me giggle but don't let that stop you from trying it. The service was INCREDIBLE!!! We were seated quickly and they had our order out fast!! Our server was so friendly and attentive. The chef was HILARIOUS and made it so fun for my daughter who was celebrating her 7th birthday and her 4 year old sister!! The food portions were MASSIVE!!!! We were told it would be 20 minutes. An hour and a half later they were trying to split our family up between two tables so we left. I would not recommend this place. The waiter messed up our orders, we were missing a couple sashimi items but I guess that's not the end of the world. But follow by that, we were so so disappointed by the quality of the sushi and sashimi, the portion size for rice was ridiculously large compared to the fish, and even worst, the rice was compacted making it hard to eat, overall not a pleasant experience. Like most Hibachi places, the exterior of the restaurant isn't what you'd call "kept up." In fact, it's pretty rundown. However, I've been to hibachi in Norman and OKC, and it's not the outside that counts. Hibachi restaurants are primarily about the experience and the food. I would deduct a few points from here for the seasonal decorations that are not considered "seasonal." We went during the last week of February and there were Valentine's Day decor up. This is really not that big of a deal. The decor that raised eyebrows was the Christmas tree in the center of the restaurant. A little weird, even though the lights weren't on. However, this wouldn't have mattered much if the experience and food were good. The first thing that was questionable regarding these categories was that fried rice had an upcharge of 2$. I question this policy. A hibachi restaurant that upcharges for fried rice? When frying the rice and tossing eggs into patrons' mouths is a key part of the expected experience? It doesn't make sense. Either don't mention the upcharge and price it accordingly, or change the pricing to reflect the fact that most people expect fried rice to be included in their entree, if they order the all inclusive hibachi meal. Second, the shrimp was bad. It was tough and chewy and just not at all good quality shrimp. The shrimp Sumo served was bigger than shrimp I've had at other hibachi places, and because of this (I assume), they only served 3 shrimps per meal. I think it would've been smarter for them to just get smaller shrimp and serve more per meal. 3 shrimp is really negligible. But again, it was pretty bad shrimp so it wasn't much of a loss. Finally, and this is somewhat minor for my family and me, but may be a big deal to others, we went here for a birthday. In the entrance to Sumo, there are hundreds of Polaroids of birthday groups eating at the restaurant. From this display, one would assume that Sumo does something to acknowledge birthdays. However, they did nothing. They didn't sing, or bring out a tiny dessert with a candle, or anything. This may disappoint some patrons who enjoy attention on a birthday dinner. All in all, this is probably the worst hibachi place I've eaten at in the metro. It isn't worth the convenience of its location. Better to go to the other hibachi places. read more

Absolutely no! i don't know how did the restaurant has 4.5 stars rating from Google but i promise you its not. don't waste your money or time. i ordered - yellowtail special appetizer: fish was not fresh. their special sauce was very sour. - spicy sooner roll: the description literally did not mention green onion, yet green onion was all over this roll. the person wanted this roll did not even have a bite because of ONION. wasted the whole entire roll - sumo club roll: rice was not fresh. fish was not fresh. it was not tasteful at all. it look like rice roll topped with piece of fish. - fried soft crab: was blah. it does not have any taste to it. it's like deep fried piece of crab battered with flour. - ginger ika: grilled squid with house special sauce, which is the same one in the yellowtail special appetizer. at the end of the night, we end up wasted our time and money on this restaurant and the sad part is, we ate our left over instead. read more

This is a hole in the wall place that is so good. The fish tasted fresh. I tried the crab Rangoon and would quite frankly order them myself next time. A woman in our group ordered the tuna tartare and it was amazing. I ordered the Saturday special which is a spider roll, a spicy tuna roll and a piece of salmon nigiri with miso soup and salad. They were out of salad so they gave us 2 cups of miso soup. It was very good, with chunks of tofu. I ordered the Saturday special and they have me a hard time about hold the rice. They finally decided to wrap it in cucumber and then it was excellent. read more

I have visited Sumo multiple times over the years and through the years I have seem almost everything go down hill. The Christmas wreaths on the front doors in May, The Christmas tree that is still up in May. Valentines hearts on the wall that have not been cleaned in years should have been trashed long ago. The fish tank that has NEVER been properly cleaned should be an animal crueility case. The building is long over due for paint. The hibachi chefs used to be entertaining but now just go through the motions. The Edmond location used to be PACKED on Friday evening but now you get seated immediately. It is really a shame to see what used to be an amazing experience is just OK. The chef used to clean the grill after they cooked but now you sit down and food particles can still be seen that just get wiped off when the chef arrives. One chef who was in recovery was a favorite is no longer there. Benson is bi-polar and you never know what mood he will be in or what type of hibachi preformance he will put on. Just sad. read more

The best Hibachi! We have eaten here over 40 times and have never been disappointed. Our son has celiac disease, and this is one of the few places he eats safely. Leon always makes sure his food is made right. We went for my son's birthday and the chef made his food first to avoid cross contamination, and made sure he had the gluten free soy sauce.
