We have eaten here many times before but haven't been here in a while. We arrived at the right time as we were seated right away and when we left there were many customers waited to be seated. And just so you know, we sat on the sushi side and ordered the same. We opted for a change this evening and went for some rolls; normally we order sashimi and sushi. Unaju roll, Mango Hawaii roll, Truffle White Tuna, a bento box, and soba soup were ordered. I always enjoy the soba soup here as I can't always find it in other Japanese restaurants. Lesson learned from ordering the rolls, take time to read the descriptions and don't order by just the pictures. All food ordered was good and service was ok. We just felt a little rushed toward the end of our meal as the place was pretty crowded. read more

Definitely not a fan of this place. I came here with a small group, there was 7 of us to be exact for hibachi. We get here and of course I knew there would be a wait, but did not expect to wait over an hour. We are sat down and immediately offered to look at the drink menu. We order drinks and our food orders are taken and the salad and clear soup come out. I'm not sure what should be in the clear soup but I've had it before, this time it actually taste like "clear, bland" soup. Soup taste all the way watered down. Not only did we wait at least an our until our cook finally got around to us, but the food was gross. I had fried rice which looked nothing like fried rice- looked more like white rice sprayed with soy sauce. The scallop taste fishy. The wait was way too long. Just not a great dining experience here. The sushi and hibachi are delicious. However, tonight for my son's birthday we had 16 kids plus three family members and we were so rushed to get out. They were taking the dishes away before the kids were done. They brought out his dessert with a candle before the dinners were finished as well. I even noticed my son's friend pulling his dish back because he was still eating from the waiter! When we told them to slow down, they said they needed to wash the dishes. There was no thank you when we left after spending over $600 either. What a shame. I truly blame the management because the workers were just doing what they were told...to rush us out in 60 minutes! Been here tons of times! They have great Japanese food. I love the sushi, teriyaki, soup, veggies, etc. With all the Japanese restaurants around they have an intense competition. Aji has better sushi, but sumou isn't bad. There bento boxes stand out for me. They are HUGE! Salmon teriyaki is so delicious, and also the beef negamaki. I recommend sumou for dine in and take out! I really enjoy the Hibachi here! I recently came to celebrate my uncle's birthday and everyone loved it! The staff was attentive and made sure everything was going well. I had the shrimp and noodles hibachi entree, which comes with vegetables (picture attached). I've been here numerous times and haven't had any problems. They kept trying to blame the waiter while the responsibility for properly staffing the place is the managers job. Waiter was serving multiple groups while attending other tables. Once things got moving it was a rush to get us out but not before screwing up the receipts! Billed for items we didn't order. I've been going to this restaurant for years. I decided to have a friend order here while visiting because it has good food, but the customer service and quality of the food is terrible now. I ordered food for take out, living 45 minutes away; got home and it was completely wrong. Called in and explained that I lived very far and the order was wrong and to please give me my money back. The woman argued with me on the phone saying that the credit can go to my friend. When I asked for a manager, she pawned it off saying they don't have a manager and to call back on Tuesday to talk to someone else. I usually don't write reviews for restaurants however I needed to say something I would not recommend this place. I went to this restaurant with some friends. We were sitting at the Hibachi table, and waiting for service, not putting any stress on my chair and the leg collapsed underneath me. People that work there did / said nothing . A waiter finally walked by , I had to bring his attention the chair on the floor. He bent down and took the chair away, did not say anything to me. Didn't ask if I was all right. He never even bought back another chair for me to use. I had to go to another table to get a chair for me to sit on. Someone from my party went to the front told the manager and told him what happened. She told him what happened and said that we will be giving me gift card for the incident. I thought that was st least something and then when they brought the gift card it was only for $15. So ridiculous. Besides the lousy management of the place, it took forever for the hibachi chef to come to the table. When we order drinks we had to remind them twice to bring it to the table and then when They asked if we wanted some tea I asked for a cup a coffee and then they told me there's a Dunkin' Donuts up the block. I thought he was kidding trying to be funny next thing I knew he bought the check With no coffee. He could've at least said that they don't serve coffee? I waited a day to see if I caught food poisoning after ordering rolls with tuna and then seeing a few posts back that it got someone sick. Well luckily for me I feel fine. I've been to some sushi/hibachi places and they really look all the same to me. They separate the patrons depending on what they wanna eat. Of course there's a drink bar in a corner somewhere in all blue fluorescent lights and a raw sushi bar with 5/6 stools. All the same. The sushi itself had very nice appearance to it. The menu itself is more like a picture book. I guess it's to limit the questions on what looks like what. After having the sushi there wasn't much of a WOW factor. It was all pretty much the same thing. Not bad but not great neither. Maybe I'll give it another try but on the hibachi side which seemed to be the more livelier side. ****UPDATE**** few hours after writing this the worst has appeared to have happened. So so Japanese in a strip mall in Bay Shore offers sushi and hibachi. Rolls are on the smaller side but never had issues with the fish not being fresh. Biggest gripe is are the eel rolls, the sauce is pretty bland. Come for dinner and expect a lot of noise from the hibachi crowd. Best to come for lunch for very reasonably priced specials. I've been to about 20-30 different sushi places on the island and I honestly like sumos the best. The fish is always good. I've never gotten a foul peice of seafood from sumos ever. I'm pretty friendly with a couple people who work at fish markets near buy and they all say how picky sumos is when picking out there seafood. This means a lot when eating raw seafood. I find the service to be pretty good. Your not going to find servers who speak the best English but they still know the menu very well. I enjoy all of there specials and I've been to the hibachi side a couple times and enjoyed it. The appetizers here are excellent. Love the garlic oysters and the beef short ribs! They've really stepped up the ambiance recently, what was once the typical "strip mall" sushi joint seems to be going for a more trendy atmosphere--a full bar and hibachi have been added. I'll give it to them for having a creative selection of rolls. Their lunch specials are pretty good. But... the service isn't great.
