The rating is a lie, as people have said that the restaurant will give you a free dessert for a 5 star review. We went to dinner late and there was not a soul in the restaurant, not a good sign to start. The AYCE is a good deal, $36 is not bad with a wide variety to choose from, and the servers were friendly enough, except not very attentive. The quality of the food is the problem, to me most of the things we got did not taste good, the only things that did were the Crunchy Tuna on Rice and the Green Tea Ice Cream, those were great. The other things, General Tsaos, Drunken Noodle, Mushroom Soup, Godzilla Roll, Gyoza, all of it was very bland and the ingredients tasted terrible. Tried the AYCE sushi during dinner time on a Saturday. Tried the miso soup, seaweed salad, takoyaki, and 5 types of few rolls (angry dragon, rock n' roll, sex on the beach, eel avocado, and spicy crunch yellowtail). The miso soup was hearty but sadly the best item of the night. Their version had enoki mushrooms which was a nice addition. The seaweed salad was far too oily and not well seasoned. It was almost too crunchy. All rolls were way too heavy on rice and barely had any protein. The signature rolls were doused in sauce - I was wiping off the sauce on almost all the rolls. Eel avocado had very little eel. The takoyaki was the worst item I tried. It was basically 95% rice and had the smallest piece of octopus. Texture was completely off with soggy rice and rubbery octopus. Nothing really stood out. Service was slow even though there were two servers and 3 parties. I felt like they intentionally dragged their feet to take more orders to run the time down (AYCE can continue for 90 minutes). I just wanted water a couple times but no one came by to refill. Would not consider myself to have a particularly high standard for sushi. Omakase is slightly wasted on me. But this place was just straight up bad and full of filler. Ah unfortunately, I have to default back to my old reviews after eating here a few times over the last month. I really enjoyed this place and the nice people but they gave us an order that was clearly bad. The order came out 20 minutes late (40 mins total) for lunch and was missing most items normally found in the dish after they said they ran out of most items. They gave me tofu that had slime on it, maybe they tried to deep fry it and then decided to give it to me as steamed but it was terrible, something to throw out. After this time, I was just really turned off. Some restaurants have bad days but as a customer it's hard to want to come back when someone gives you rotten food. I scouted out this place to order from after hiking. I was already excited to see they had a parking lot and surprised to see it was right off of the kings park train station. I had ordered a spicy crab roll, spicy tuna roll, and miso soup to warm me up. The staff was friendly upon pick up and it was ready when I got there, within the estimated time. I did not see much of the restaurant upon walking in, so I cannot say much about the environment, but the front was designed nicely. My rolls were absolutely amazing and they did not lack on the filling. It may have been slightly less spicy than others I have had, but definitely had more depth in my opinion. I had ordered the soup because I saw it had enoki mushrooms, unfortunately my soup did not have them. I am not sure if it was because I asked for no tofu or seaweed, or if it was something else, but I was sad when I opened it and didn't see any. Regardless, it was very delicious protein to fill me up after my hike. I will definitely be back if I am in the area again and recommend it if anyone wants a quick dinner after getting off the train. read more

I've had it with this place. The food has been so inconsistent lately and the service is even worse. Every time I come for takeout the place is empty and I am standing at the counter for minutes before someone comes to greet me. I've had orders missing items on more than one occasion. The last time I was here I was waiting about two mins for my order, then two bags were placed on the counter. I paid, took my bags. About ten mins later I get a phone call saying I took a bag that wasn't mine, demanding I return the food. Mind you, I'm already home and I'm on my lunch break, pressed for time. I agreed to return the food, but said it would be about 15 mins before I could get back. 10 mins later I get a call asking me where I am. I said what's the rush it's not like you can give this food to someone else now. No response. I return the food, the woman behind the counter takes the bag without a word. No thank you, no I'm sorry for the inconvenience. This is a shame because I've been unhappy w the service here for a while but enjoyed the food and enjoyed supporting a local business but enough is enough. They lost a good customer. read more

A while back I had a negative experience at lunch but living nearby we decided to go back. We tried the AYCE and I must say. Everything was absolutely fantastic. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. We went back several more times for dinner since and have thoroughly enjoyed the incredible appetizers like Rock shrimp tuna tataki gyoza octopus and the specialty sushi rolls are outrageous. I'll start with the positive. The food here for a place that offers AYCE is very good. It really has much better quality than any other AYcE places I've been to. The apps are delicious (crispy tuna rice and tempura shrimp are some of our picks.) Is it Kotobuki, no. But it is fresh and the portions are big. AYCE will run you $33 an adult. So this is where they lost 2 stars for me. Once seated, we waited over 15 min for the one waiter working to take our drink order. Then it took him almost 10 min to bring a soda and water. Let me say, there were only 2 other tables sat in our area. This happens every single time we come. We ordered apps when we ordered the drinks. One app came out with the drinks. The other two came when the sushi came out. This also happens often. Why bring out apps when the sushi comes out? This happened at the table next to us and they were verbally not happy. It started to get busy, and another table came in and sat close to 20 min without anyone going up to them. Now, they brought in a waitress who was helping out in the bar area and they still couldn't get their stuff together without it being packed. I asked for the check, which took another 10 min to get and another almost 10 min to return. They charged me $3 for a soda. Each time I came before, the soda was included. The waiter who was new said to me "first soda $3 second is free." Does that make sense? No. Then he says ice cream is included, which I was never told the 3 other times I've been here. My daughter wanted it so we asked for it but ended up leaving as we waited almost 10 min and they never brought it. Lesson is, food is worth the price but be prepared to wait. They are very under staffed both in the kitchen and on the floor. I'm hesitant to go back. read more
