As a woman, there have been multiple instances where auto shops would take advantage of me and try to sell me extra work. I know better than that, but I was fooled a couple times and I just about had it with auto mechanic shops. I was referred to Sun Auto by a friend who has been going to them for years. My first experience with them was awesome. The brakes on my Acura TSX were starting to go bad as they were squeaking. I took my car to Sun Auto and was greeted by Huy, one of the son's. We took a test drive around the block and we were able to replicate the noise. We returned to the shop and he showed me what my options were in replacing the brakes. Huy is so knowledgeable about his work that I trusted what he said and his recommendation. Since that instance, I haven't gotten my car fixed anywhere else. I've taken my Honda S2000 to their shop since S2000's are notoriously known for the rear differential going bad when they reach 100k+ miles. I was able to get an accurate diagnosis of the problems I had encountered and a detailed description of what to expect to fix this issue. With it being my first RWD car, I wanted to make sure I was secure at all times driving it around- especially on San Diego's occasional rainy days. I highly trust and recommend Sun Auto! You can definitely see the family bond between Tuyen and his 3 sons, which is a really cool dynamic to have in an auto shop! If you're looking for a family owned, honest business... stop here. Had my starter replaced on my Lexus ISF. Dealer quoted $3100 and they were able to get it done for about a third of the price, even though they dropped the sub frame. Huy found bolts missing from my exhaust system which was causing a check engine light. Another shop in town AND Lexus replaced my O2 sensors, but the real problem was missing bolts. My CEL is FINALLY GONE!!!! It was bothersome for over a year... I'm ecstatic. I have lived in SD for 12+ years and will never take my cars anywhere else. My go-to repair shop. My family has been going to Sun Auto for years (back when they were a small shop on Second and Broadway area). There is no doubt in my mind that this is the best repair shop. Huey, Tuyen, and everyone else there has been honest and full of respect every time I have gone there. There was a point in time when my truck was refusing to start. I called a tow truck company and they managed to get it started. They followed me to their a different place where the diagnosed my truck with a starter that needed replacing. I didn't trust the other people and drove my truck over to Sun Auto where they just simply replaced the battery. There are many more times where they have saved me a lot of money. I'd definitely say they're one of the reasons my truck has made it to 244,000 miles! I'll be coming here until I can't drive anymore! read more

These guys are awesome. My car was cranking but not turning over, so I had it towed to my usual go-to guys at El Cajon Muffler and A/C. They called and said it was beyond their level of expertise, and recommended Sun Auto, saying that one of the owners took his mom there. So, I had it picked up and towed over to Trinh and Huey. They called with the bad news that it was going to need a new(ish) motor from Japan. So I bit the bullet because I don't have time or energy to deal with hunting for another car, and gave them the go-ahead. He called before the promised week to 10 days was up, and said they had put in the newer motor, plus a bunch of other new parts, and done some things to the transmission and the solenoid because the Check Engine light had come on. They didn't charge me for any of the extra work. It was running great for a few days, then began the "I don't want to start" BS again. So I called them and had it towed back, and this time the fuel line was clogged somehow. So, he fixed that, gave it a couple of test drives, and called me to come get my car-- no charge.
