Charged us close to $1,000 on a car from 2013 after being told it wouldn't cost more than a few hundred bucks. When they took a look, claimed that they would need to charge me $200 to break the lug nuts on a tire in order to see what was wrong... Later charged me $800 to tape up some wires in addition to the $200. The owners wife, who I've dealt with before, was her usual incredibly rude self. She should not be in the front office. I took my daughter's car to check why is it leaking oil, they charged me $230 and they told me we don't know where is it coming from. This is not the problem, they said they change the battery, when I went to start the car the car was dead. The mechanic came out very rude asking questions, not to mention the owners wife was also rude. They said they changed the brake lights but they never did, the warning light still active in the dashboard. And also was some damage to the car they said they didn't do. So, I first came here a few years ago and this absolutely rude lady, Sherri, helped me. I'll never forget her name because it's made me hate all Sherri's from there on out. She was rude, mean and you could tell her employees hate her. She acts very holier-than-thou and thinks she's smart (and she really isn't - as proven when my husband, a former mechanic, was able to get a part cheaper and quicker than she could. Maybe her suppliers hate her too). Well, I happened to break down nearby and my car was towed to them. Completely different! Katie, at the front desk, was totally different. She was kind, caring and went above and beyond. Turns out I need a new starter and not only did Katie help talk me through the process, but she also talked to my husband on the phone to explain it and even he was impressed! I hope that Sherri lady is gone forever because Katie did a total flip in my perception of this place. She was amazing and sweet and kind. Def go here as long as Katie is around. She's worth every penny they pay her and more! The work that they did on my car was amazing, too! The mechanic came over and told me everything was going great, that was car was in otherwise great shape. He said I didn't need an oil change but it wouldn't hurt to get one now, so I don't have to bring my car through again. I took him up on that offer (even though my husband usually does them at home), since I'm about to go on a vacation and take my car up the coast. I have used Greg's for the last 4 years and I love them and I figures I should give them my review in Yelp. Beside the oil changes and routine maintenance which were great I've brought my car in twice for what I thought would be big expensive fixes. I know little about cars, other shops would have swindled me and taken me for hundreds. Greg's didn't, they have what I think is the most important virtue in a mechanic HONESTY. Both times it was something minor that gave the impression of a bigger problem. The first time they charged me a measly $20 in labor, the second time they charged nothing as it was so easy to fix and they didn't need any materials. So so glad I decided to bring my car to Greg's. They were unbelievably kind through the entire experience. I had to towe my car from clear across town and chose this place at random since it was close to my house. I had to replace my water pump and was without a car for a day and a half. They not only took me home so I didn't have to Uber, but also offered to let me borrow a car for the day! They were able to bill my warranty and have checked in twice since the work was completed. We've been to Greg's twice for repair work. The first time they wanted to charge us double what other shops wanted, and they seemed to find repairs that were not needed to be done. We declined but got an attitude from the front desk. Second time we asked for repairs on an 18 year old car that only had 102,000 miles on it (we are the original owners). They quoted an outrageous price and then offered us $150 to buy the car outright. What a joke. Even if in poor condition the car was worth ten times that. I want to exempt the actual mechanic and the receptionist from this review. They were both really kind. SHERRY whom I assume is the owner is just awful. She was INCREDIBLY CONDESCENDING. Here's what went down. My car needed to get an oil patch up and replace the water tank. Turns out that the head gasket was bad; fine-- they told me they had to send it to another location to have that part worked at. Turns out that part was done. New head gasket plus labor would be 3K. WTF?! Instead of giving me options SHE made me panic by telling me that I had no choice but to get it done or not have a car. Now, my husband was deployed and I couldn't consult with him as to what to do. I called my family and some friends and was advised. When making the decision to remove this car from this location; Sherry offered to buy my car for $500. WTF?!?!?! Not only that--- when informed that I was going to send a tow truck to their location to have it transferred to a BETTER LOCATION she asked IF I HAD MY HUSBANDS PERMISSION!!!! UMMM WTF?!?! ITS MY DAMN CAR AND ILL DO AS I PLEASE WITH IT!!! I felt completely undermined that someone was questioning my validity!!! I felt so personally insulted it took every piece of fiber in my body to smile politely as I went to sign the release papers and get my key back. I really have a HORRIBLE AFTER TASTE .... this place is just awful. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! AND IF YOURE A WOMAN HAHAHA!! My car was doing something weird and I brought it here to be repaired because my mother had recently brought her car here and had a good experience, plus it was near my home and I couldn't drive my car far. Anyways, they were able to fix my car and I had asked them to look at my AC in a final attempt to get it fixed. I had taken my car to another place previously to have my AC repaired and oil changed and not only did they NOT fix my AC after giving them $1600+ but they also stripped my oil cap so badly that Greg's Automotive had to take my car to a welder to get the cap off!!! I waited a while to post this review because I wanted to see if my AC was truly repaired as it would always work before for a couple weeks before conking out again but here we are about 2 months later and the AC is still working! I live nearby and was looking for a new mechanic to take care of my aging car. I stopped at this place and asked just a few basic questions, requesting a quote. An old woman with white hair at the reception was extremely UNPLEASANT, IMPATIENT and just plain RUDE! May be she was irritated because I possibly interrupted her lunch - when I entered she was carefully picking up and eating crumbs from the table. Unbelievably terrible customer service! Actually - if you look at other negative reviews of this business - many of them refer to extremely unpleasant and rude old woman at the front desk. AVOID THIS PLACE! read more

Trust me on this. Find another repair shop. I have been forgiving of many mistakes they have made on my cars but have finally decided that Gregg's does not deserve my business. I had an old E Class Mercedes that had an apparent transmission problem. After several days, I had not received a call explaining what was going on with the care. I called the shop myself and Sheri told me that she has sent the car to a shop in Santee since her tech was not able to make the repair. I think Sheri was just trying to fix the car but should not have removed my car from the premises without my permission. By the time I contacted the shop in Santee, the tech there told me that he was already $2,500 into repairs on the car. I told him that I was not going to pay him since the repair cost was going to exceed the value of the car. I ended up giving the Santee shop the pink slip to the car so that they could try to recoup the cost they had sunk into the car. On another occasion, I took my Escalade to the shop for a brake inspection before I was to drive with my family to Arizona. I was told that I had 60% left on the brakes. We departed for Arizona and someplace between the Imperial Valley and Yuma, the brakes began to make a loud noise. I drove the car despite the noise to the nearest repair shop and was told that the brakes were completely gone. I called Sheri at Gregg's immediately and asked her how they had determined that I had 60% brake life remaining when at the time I they inspected them, that the brakes were shot. Sheri said her tech had done a visual inspection without removing the wheels. I told Sheri that she had put my families safety in jeopardy. She apologized but did not offer consideration. Finally, I recently took another car to Gregg's to determine the nature of an oil leak causing a burning smell. Sheri told me the leak was coming from a particular source and told me the name of the part needing replacement. Sheri said the part would cost $250 at the dealer and $175 aftermarket but that she would not be able to get the part on that day. She suggested I come pick up the car and I was charged $60 for the diagnosis. I picked up the car and drove straight to O'Reilly's and was told they had the part in stock and the cost was $32. I purchased the part and watched a youtube video on how to install it. The installation took 15 minutes to complete. Although Gregg's has a convenient location relative to my home, I am sourcing another repair shop that has demostrated competence and shows greater appreciation for the business. read more

I made a phone call to get my 2003 VW Jetta aligned only to be greeted by a lady(Sherry?!). Conversation was ok at first til I started to question why I needed a four wheel alignment when I know I only needed the front wheels since I have a solid rear axle. Due to me explaining my point of view she continued to deny and say it's gonna cost an additional $60 cuz the mechanics don't know what's been done to the car. Excuse me?! After getting upset she then said that she just would rather not take my car anymore and was getting annoyed. I've been brining my '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee here for the last 5 years based on a recommendation from my Grandpa. When they first saw her, I was ready to drive her out to the desert and off a cliff. I had been going to another mechanic since I got her in 2000 - was pretty content and the Jeep was well maintained until it seemed like she was in the shop every month following a service for one thing or another (long irrelevant sorry but the last straw was a loose wheel that wasn't tightened after a rotation. I nearly lost the wheel during the drive home). I tried another shop based off of a couple recommendations. After some new mechanical issues cropped up (sputtering for power at high speeds, leaks every which way, would randomly overheat with "no known cause") and apparently couldn't be fixed, I ended up at Greg's. It took a week and some dough, but they determined the cause of the sputtering (original wiring harness was toast; they couldn't rebuild it or buy new so they sourced a salvaged part and rebuilt it), addressed the leaks (many but fortunately minor), replaced incorrect spark plugs the other shop put in, checked the other times the shop replaced, and did a thorough safety and inspection. My girl had been reborn! Today at 225,000, she's still running strong with services every 3,000 miles...and hasn't overheated since! I appreciate Sheri knows that money isn't growing on trees but that I want to keep the Jeep running. They do their best to rebuild parts or source rebuilt parts with warranties if new isn't available. I also appreciate that its usually the same mechanic working on the Jeep and that the they notate things that aren't 100% but maybe aren't top priority or necessary to safety and function but maybe comfort (ie suspension - what a difference new shocks make!) If the Jeep gets a good report after an oil change, I'll tackle an item on their list. Cars are expensive. Maintaining a car is expensive. Maintaining and old car is even more expensive, especially a daily driver. But I am thankful Greg's is around because otherwise the Jeep would've met her end in the desert or a salvage yard and that would be a sad end for an awesome car. read more

I do NOT recommend bringing any vehicles to this shop. They have horrible customer service. My boyfriend and I were recommended to this shop by AAA because we were told that they provided a free diagnostic check (only true if your vehicle is running, which we were not informed of beforehand, even though we told AAA and the shop that the car would not start). The following morning we were informed that it would be several hundred dollars for the diagnostic and to replace the spark plugs before they could troubleshoot any further. I can do that at home and it doesn't take over an hour of labor to find bad spark plugs. It takes two seconds. In a 1999 Mazda Protege they are literally right on top of the engine. This shop told us it took their mechanic 58 minutes to figure this out. They are dishonest, try to take advantage of their customers and Sherry, I'm guessing one of the owners, was so incredibly rude, mean, and aggressive on the phone. She hung up on my boyfriend twice while he was trying to pay with his credit card before we came to pick the car up with a tow truck to take it to a different shop. I told her that we were both veterans, out of work, recently discharged and weren't expecting to pay so much money which apparently made her furious. I never even had the chance to ask if she would be willing to waive the diagnostic fee before she hung up. Then, when she got back on the phone, she said she didn't like dealing with people "like us", that her mechanic had spent over an hour on our car and "I want you to come in here and put cash IN MY HAND and get your car OUT OF HERE!!!" I don't know what she meant by people like us. Maybe she doesn't like veterans. If it hadn't been for AAA's suggestion, I would have taken my car to my regular mechanic that I trust. Please don't take your business here. They are not nice people. Update: just got the car home and the new battery that we installed right before we dropped it off is dead because they let it die while troubleshooting. Thanks Greg's Automotive. When I picked up vehicle smog was done but when I got into the car I had noticed it had like 12 more miles in it???? 12 miles for a smog??? Then I looked at smog paper when I got home and Gregs Helix DID NOT even do smog. They sent it to El Cajon for a smog. So they advertise stuff they don't do. I can not believe they did that. Be aware of this place , they always try to diagnose more problems than you expect it then they always try to persuade you to buy the parts which they said have problems ( I am not sure 100% they diagnose exactly because they don't allow car's observe their working on your car ) . You may end up have to pay much more than you expect it . Even I had an appointment for my oil change , I had to wait almost 2h to have my car done just for oil change + air filter change . My Daughter took her car there and they told her she needed a "cam sensor" she told them to go ahead and fix it, then they told her that they couldn't fix the problem and still wants to charge her for nothing. They actually called in someone else to try and fix it, they didn't know how to do the job. They are trying to make her pay even though they don't know how to fix the car. They did not even install the "cam sensor" so basically they are charging for looking at it and scratching their heads! Unacceptable!
