In my opinion, Approach with caution. IF you know something about the automotive industry you might get a head ache. This is a good example of "What you don't know, won't hurt you". I know some procedures on the new gen of engines is not successful. Though theoretically they can be done, but not always successfully, it depends on the model. I asked a specific question , he did not want to answer until a long extensive tear down. Along with describing procedures that are not necessary (not opinion, fact). I asked can they do it? I would have to tear down to see. Uh, no. Can you? Don't know until we tear down and see. hmm. Okay , let me reword this. If you tear down, and find NO OTHER issues and complete procedure can you guarantee success? No. So, the likelihood of successfully replacing part is unlikely with the end result full engine replacement. Then why full (costly) tear down on an unlikely repair? I am in no way questioning their mechanical ability. Location and model not relevant. Part 2 , the response from the shop was a LOL. they did not "READ" my comments. I was not asking for unforeseen repairs, I know what it needs. I was very specific. I said IF no other issues are present, can you do it? they wanted to tear down anyway. I had to pry out the doubt they can fix from them. My point is they should be upfront with the "Unlikely" repair prior to saying we WANT to tear down. (as a former service writer, retired) This is a customer courteous answer; it is a slim chance to repair, it will likely end up being a replacement. However, We can tear down, and go from there. WE Just want to be upfront. My major issue is lack of communication of the current and POTENTIAL realities. I did read some of the other 1 stars randomly of other locations. I believe I am addressing an issue that others have actually had. The response looked like avoiding the actual issue. And again, location of issue not necessary. read more

No one LIKES getting their car repaired... but if you do need a repair, Sun is the place to go. My car hasn't been out of factory warranty all that long, and when I needed A/C repair, I wasn't sure where to go. I had driven by this store many times since it's near my home, and I decided to give it a chance. I couldn't be more pleased with the service they provided -- especially the manager, Brad. From the initial phone call to the final delivery of the repaired car, he and his team were incredibly friendly, patient and professional. They went the extra mile to look over the vehicle to find any other issues (this was an extended warranty claim) and notified me in a timely manner when my vehicle was diagnosed and when it was ready. They also explained the what, whys and hows that made the experience much more painless. Oh -- and not only did I not need an appointment, but my vehicle was ready before the end of the day. The guy at the front desk was passive- aggressive and had no emotional intelligence at all. His only volume was loud and fast. Then he was talking loudly and shaming me for not knowing the person I bought the car from that I was having inspected, had put invalid tags and a temporary tag on. He made it way more complicated then it needed to be instead of just entering the temporary license id in. Don't know why them have he working customer service here. Then he was slamming around clip boards and not looking me in the eye. Very unfriendly. read more

Needed to get our truck's oil changed. Since COVID, I don't do anything without an appointment. Called and spoke with Cody to arrange taking our truck in. Dropped the truck off since I did not want to sit in public. Got a call that the truck was ready however the sticker shows I am overdue for the inspection and would I like them to complete that also. I think they decided they needed to make money cause they weren't busy and tried to charge $115 dollars with no warning for the a.c. check listed as free on my coupon.Told me exactly what I told them when I took it in. This place bailed me out big time...FOR FREE...out of the kindness of their hearts...at the ass crack of dawn. I used to work as an overnight security guard and I accidentally left my headlights on one night so my car wouldn't start (6am). This is on a construction site mind you, on a weekend, so there were no workers to be found, and I couldn't find a local business anywhere that had a phonebook I could use. I called a cab service and a towing service and they said it would take about 2 hours to get to me. Sun Auto's van drove by and I scribbled the number down off a whim. I called and they said that they didn't do that sort of thing, but they showed up to jump my car in ten minutes anyway! I offered them money and they told me to "keep it" and that "they were happy to help." Fucking great guys. Go to them. Friendly as hell. Love them in a sexual kind of way. Jazz hands. read more

It is rare to be able to rant and rave about an auto establishment but wow, I am impressed. This is a review that is months over due but I had to give this location their due credit. I choose this location due to their location from a seminar that I was attending for a few days. I took my son's Volkswagen SUV in for some work after hearing some funky noises in the front end. They gave me a fair and honest quote to replace a few parts. The work was done in a the time frame they promised, the pricing was extremely competitive & the best part is, our SUV is fixed and nearly 8 months to the date and everything is working as good as new. Thanks you guys, hopefully we don't have any more car issues but if we do, it will be worth the drive to know our vehicle will be fixed right the first time! read more

I noticed the Yelp sign in the lobby, too. That's fine if you are just showing you're on Yelp, but not fine IMO if you ask for good reviews. I took my car here and was quoted over $2000 worth of work. There was some issue with that in that the work they said was to be done possibly makes no sense for the model year of my car. The explanation for this is either they were dumbing it way down for me, or didn't know what they were looking at... both bad. I also had poor communication with Adrian. He interrupted and talked over me while I had called to clarify questions and my wishes for what work was done. Alan was nice and tried to smooth it over. I understand people have long work days. I think you can still listen, though. And the real reason I gave the low rating is that I took my car to Century Automotive, and they see nothing wrong with several of the things that Sun Auto said were needing repair. Both of them took care of my issue and I really feel like they were sensitive to the fact that I did not want to pay too much. I've been bringing my vehicle's here for a while now. Every time I go the guys are always so nice. They tell me and show me exactly what my vehicle's need done. They do not pressure you into getting work done if you don't have the money or time. I recently took my car in because I thought the brake pads needed to be changed but the guys inspected the brakes and turns out I did not need anything done to them. They could have easily changed the brakes and charge me the $139 per axle but they did not. I appreciate the honesty of this company and will continue to bring my vehicle's here. read more

The front end people, especially Xavier do not like oil changes and state inspections. I calledAbout 11AM to ask how long it would be for a full synthetic oil change and state inspection. Xavier said 2 or 3 hours. So I bring my car in A half hour later and Xavier then says they need it all day . I said well I can do 3pm or so like you said on the phone but is it really all day now? He then got irritated and argumentative. He took the keys and got the car in 5 minutes. I already planned on 3 hours and was surprised. Anyway, I went on my hike and then stopped for lunch on the way back and he calls me at 230 and says my car is ready. I went back, read the receipt and said this doesn't say a full synthetic oil change. He says I didn't tell him full synthetic and I said I've never had anything but a full synthetic oil change on this car and I can't change. Xavier then said synthetic blend in pretty much the same thing as full synthetic. I used to be a service manager an know that is a very inaccurate statement he made and said I don't want to argue and please take my keys back and do the full synthetic oil change I asked for. He also tried to sell my brakes and an oil leak repair etc before doing what I initially asked for. He did finally get the correct oil change done but after drama and him arguing and lying about the composition of the oil he had put in my car. read more

I appreciate honesty and transparency. This company delivered both. I was a little worried because I thought their coupon mailers were either too good to good to be true, and that there would be a catch. They did a great job on my jeep. I also appreciate the manager's comments of, "we need to get it right the first time so that you and my mechanics can be happy." I also overheard some phone conversation from one of the sales associates looking for a good price on a part and haggling for the customer to keep cost down. Again the manager said, "I want to get a quality part for the job so that the fix is long term. You can go to some of the cheap stores but the part will not last near as long as the parts we get for the job". I will have to leave my other garage that I have gone to for over 6 years and this will now be my South Austin neighborhood garage. I want to thank this garage publicly and I hope that this is the model that they stick to and not change like my other store. read more

I am very pleased with the customer service I received at Sun Auto on Slaughter. I went in for an oil change on my son's car and I was also concerned with the check engine light on dashboard. Adrian, the service advisor was very thorough when it came to explaining what additional repairs the car needed due to the code from the light. He quoted me the price for the work, i negotiated with him and he was able to lower the price. I brought the car in the next work day and they went out of their way to finish the work as promised. My son's car runs great, engine light is off and it also passed inspection. I am very impressed. i will recommend Adrian and this shop to all my friends and family. read more

This place is AWESOME. They don't over charge. They will shuttle you back to your house and pick you up while your car is in the shop for FREE. They got my car in and out of the shop in one day. I've had my car serviced here several times and overall, really nice and friendly staff. Unfortunately, I had to bring my car here 3 times for them to correctly identify the issue with it only to refer me to a different shop. They did a good job communicating the problem on my third visit, but it should not have taken a 3rd visit. They did honor the warranty and made all subsequent repairs for free, but unfortunately my car still has issues. My only advice if you visit this shop is to stay on top of them and ask all relevant questions, especially for major repairs. Rated them 3/5 because a proper car diagnostic is important as it saves both time and money. read more

**as an update, please don't be fooled by the response below. It's originally why I thought maybe I'd give this place a try - those response to all comments - but that's all it is - for show. I felt my response was pretty straight forward and needed no further contact, but when a business says "we'll reach out right away" and doesn't, it shows so much. 10 days later and I've heard zip. I don't need any further contact from here but I want you the Yelper to know** My Thermometer gauge in need of replacing and chose this place because it was close to my house and the reviews said the staff was nice. I was quoted maybe $200 because it was a simple job originally. After they dropped me off at work, they called for a quote of $300-$400. Yikes. I went through with it because they allowed me to split the payment but when I went to get my car there was a problem. Something in my cars panel above the tire was rattling! They tried to figure out what it was for about 30 minutes and I said I would come back another day to get it fixed - and for the inconvenience they would still drop me off at work. Well, I went back and they asked me to wait because hey we're a little short on staff. Understandable but that was another hour of my time that I hadn't anticipated. Got my car back and it turns out a screw had been dropped in the panel and creating the rattle noise. They gave me my car back and they still charged me two hours of work at about $115 per hour. No adjustment for my 1.5 hours of time being stuck there for an error they created! I had noticed the same day I got my car back, the car's air intake stoped working and I was smelling all air from outside. They said that this was something that was a problem completely unrelated and they could fix it but at additional cost. Ive never had a problem with my car - I don't believe in coincidences and I'm sure I'd pay major money again on this. Staff was all very friendly and took the time to explain all the work done to my car - but the hassle I experienced overall just isn't worth coming back. I'd rather have the job done right the first time at a decent price than pay $115 for friendly service. Also! They don't use paper to protect your carpet from their shoes! I got grease prints on my drivers side from it. Yuck. Even the new place I went to get my oil changed put protective paper down. read more

had a flat tire, the mechanic check it out and says it has a nail puncture on the side of tire. was told that not able to repair the tire due to the place of the nail being on the side of tire. mech suggested that to replace a new tire for $150. I had just replace the two front tire not long ago for $80. so I had to lie to the mechanics so I can get the heck out of there. I took it to a different shop and to find out the nail was struck in center of the tire, no where near the side of tire. the total cost to repair the puncture was $15, that's right. over all Sun Auto glet a one star for being dishonest. shame on you Sun Auto. I hope this post would help many people to avoid this place and save their hard earned money. read more
