Here's an interesting fact. Old Faithful is a cone geyser in Yellowstone National Park that erupts a spout of hot water every 44 to 125 minutes. Been doing it at that interval faithfully since 2000. What the heck does Old Faithful have to do with a review of the Sun Deli?" Yeah, I'm getting there. So here's the thing. The Sun Deli is good. Darn good. I've ordered quite a few different things here. Soups. Salads. Subs. And you know what? Each and every time? It's good. No matter when I go. No matter what order. It's predictably. . . good. See where I'm going with this? Just like I know that Old Faithful is going to spout a geyser of hot water, Sun Deli is going to erupt with some excellent food! Too much? Yeah, maybe a bit. But my terrible analogy shouldn't scare you off from this great little deli. They really do a good job. The soups are varied, the subs have cute little names and excellent flavor combos, and the egg salad is fantastic. No really. I don't even like egg salad that much, but this is my go to when I'm at Sun Deli. Egg salad on wheat toast. Not too mayonnaisey. Mayonnaise-y? Whatever, You get my point. It can get pretty crowded at times, so expect to wait to order sometimes. But the line moves fairly quickly. And you can always phone in your order. So, let's review, shall we? I love places like this. Locally owned, friendly service, fair prices and great food. It seems like such an easy concept but surprisingly some places haven't figured it out. Stopped in for a quick lunch before work and ordered the Beach Boy sub. Ham, Salami, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and Italian dressing. The roll was fresh and soft the soda was cold. I don't know what took me so long to come into Sun Deli. Maybe it's the fact I live on the Southside of Jacksonville & only go out to the Jacksonville Beach area when heading to and from work. Well I had some time before work to give it a try, so I did. I am a big fan of Club Sandwiches in general. So I am always out to explore and see who has some great sandwiches. This place is decent in size & they keep the interior nice and simple. Which is the way I like in a deli. A deli needs to worry about customer service, cleanliness and making sandwiches. This place does that job and more. While your sitting there eating, someone is always wiping down tables, making sure the bathrooms stay stocked and clean. Once you come in and order, you wait till they call your name and they bring it right to your seat. The menu is pretty easy to read. A plus is that you can text in your order. Another positive is that they use Boars Head products. I got the Triple Decker Club. They make it the classic club way. Toast either white or wheat. They have cheese, turkey, ham, roast beef, bacon, lettuce, tomato & mayo. It's a really good flavorful sandwich. Not to big, not to small. It keeps your tummy full, but not like you ate something that you would regret. The sandwich was so good I can back the next day and got it again. I definitely want to explore the rest of the menu. It all looks good. They do great business and I am glad to have finally found the Sun Deli. read more

I found this locally owned gem over 10 years ago and have been hooked ever since. The menu is full of fantastic options, the Chicken Salad Cuzzo and Ruben are my favorites. Their sandwiches are excellent, but do not sleep on their soups, they always have multiple options to choose from, the Veggie Beef and Chicken & Rice are fantastic. Staff at a nearby business was making a takeout order and raved about the food here. We followed their lead. The Friday special is a French dip. Melted provolone oozes from the roast beef in the warm bun. My friend ordered this and I enjoyed sausage and lentil soup. Wonderful! We split the sandwich and soup. You need to eat here. A family run deli, it has been in business 25 years. Liz, behind the counter, guided us. We wanted to bring home more soup for the guys. There was only one bowl left. They get their rolls daily from Cinotti's bakery (another personal favorite) and they are always soft and fresh, the perfect base for a juicy sub!
