    a hamburger and french fries
    Cuey M.

Ever since I've had a burger from here a couple months ago I stopped going to the Sheik. Not only is Famous Sandwiches more reasonable priced. The burger and fries are just overall better. The steak sub is great as well. Never had an issue with customer service.

I came into Famous Sandwiches for a quick lunch and found a friendly, down to earth staff offering food at an inexpensive price point in extremely humble surroundings. This food is nothing fancy, not by any means, but it is good and a good place to grab a cheap lunch. I opted for the grilled chicken pita combo (with a drink and fries, I asked if I could swap out coleslaw for the fries, but was told I couldn't). The grilled chicken pita was easy, but a decent sandwich (since it is on pita, does it qualify as a sandwich? Since the place has sandwich in its name, I am going with it). The french fries were a bit weak, but I have had worse. Famous Sandwiches offers an alternative to fast food and a good one for the price point.

Camel Rider and Fries. Took a bite

Discovered this place due to my daughter's proximity to her house. Kind of hole in the wall place but I saw how much traffic it was receiving so I thought I would try it out. Went through the drive through because the parking is pretty tight. I tried the Camel Rider Combo with seasoned fries and a Cherry Limeade. The sandwich has bologna in it which was a surprise. I was thinking steak and onions, but honestly tasted pretty good. Beware if you don't like raw onions because it had some in every bite. It also had what tasted like Italian dressing which made the sandwich. The fries where hot and fresh especially with the seasoning salt. They ask if you want it sprinkled on. And you can't go wrong with a Cherry Limeade.

plated up: Giant burger deal for $2.99 and it comes out to $3.20 after tax & $2.35 for order of onion rings

I was checking my Wells Fargo balance today & saw that I had $4.44 in there, but I was hungry. So I jumped in my car and headed to Famous Sandwiches on Cassat. Every time I come here, the service is so friendly. Even the lady behind me in line commented on how pleasant it is to come here. I concur. This place gets pretty busy during weekday lunch time and I believe they are open until 6pm. That being said, I went mid afternoon and there was no wait. Foodwise, I always order their Giant burger deal for $2.99 and it comes out to $3.20 after tax. With that meal, you get a refillable drink and a small fries with their magic salt. What a bargain, right? After digging in my purse for some change, I added an order of onion rings for $2.35. This time I ordered it to go so I could use my sauces I had at home. This place gets 5 STARS because they're cheap, service is on point and the food is consistently good. I heard their breakfast is tasty too, but that will be another time and another review. Definitely recommend! :)

    Chicken sandwich.

No, just no. This place is around the corner from my house and was told this place has been here for years. If you've been there for years I guess I made my expectations too high. First thing is it smelled like cleaning products all over. I'm very satisfied that you're cleaning but I don't want that to be the smell when I'm eating. Second, I absolutely can't handle rude service. Especially if you down talk another employee in front of your customers. We had just walked in and I was looking at the menu. The guys up front we're letting me decide while the girl in the back was yelling at them to get my order. I looked at her and told her I was still deciding. After a few moments she yelled at them again to get my order when I was still just in line. I felt rushed and upset that she was so rude to someone she worked with. Third, alright, let's get to the food talk. Let's be real honest for a combo meal for 2.99 I don't know what I was thinking I was getting. It's basically like going to McDonald's, just the local one. This was not for me.

My 2nd time here decided to try the Alaskan fish sandwich comb meal for $3.99 huge fish sandwich compared to any fast food burger places that sells fish sandwich.

Double cheese burger combo. Fries have season salt
    Harlan M.

I've driven by this place a thousand times and finally today I stopped in for a famous sandwich. Although there is a wide selection of pita combos, I opted for the double cheese burger combo because everyone else was ordering it and the total price was $5.30 for a small drink and fry. I was very happy with my selection and the burger was just as you'd hope--tasty, juicy and flavorful. Standard is lettuce, tomato, ketchup and mayo. Thick slice of tomato is always a pleasant surprise. Great to the last bite! At the counter they ask if you'd like season salt on the fries, which of course how could I turn down? Also very tasty. Overall a nice spot to stop for lunch. You could tell the place has regulars who've been coming for years! Although I probably won't become a regular, I'll certainly be a once-in-a-while!

Ordered at the front counter and was greeted by a friendly young lady... good start. I went in planning to get the muffaleta off the specials board. They checked on it, but no luck... they were out of the cuts needed. I was pointed toward the Italian, but my buddy already grabbed that and I felt like being different. Noticed another special on the wall, a smoked brisket sandwich. Can't remember the exact name, but that's what I went with. Instead of chips or their homemade tots, I grabbed the balsamic roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Tables weren't the cleanest and were a little wobbly, but nothing deal-breaking... we made it work. Food came out pretty quick and looked solid. Flavor-wise... a little mixed. The brussel sprouts were very flaky and leafy, almost crumbled apart. You really had to work your fork to get a bite. I was picturing larger roasted halves. Sauce was fine, nothing bad, nothing special. I'd give those a 3 out of 5. The brisket sandwich was interesting. The meat was very fatty and kind of tough to chew through. Not sure if that's just the cut or the prep. I ate about three-quarters of it. It wasn't bad, just didn't hit the way I hoped. Probably still thinking about that muffaleta. Another 3 out of 5. I'd come back, no doubt... but next time I'm sticking with what they're known for. Those cheesesteaks always look great, and that's probably the move. Today was about trying something different, and I'm glad I did... even if it didn't knock my socks off.

This is one of those places that we love but haven't been to in far too long. We both tried things that were new to each of us tonight as well, which was cool. I ordered The Ole Smokie, with everything on it and choose cheddar cheese. My first thought when it was brought to the table was "oh, I'll probably have to go at this with a fork & knife" but I decided to give it a shot as intended. I'm glad I did because the bread held up surprisingly well! As far as ingredients go, the brisket was good and smokey. There was a good mix of everything else and more than enough cheddar. My wife ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak. She also had a choice of cheese and she picked whizz. The thing that separates this from what people might expect is that it's chunks of chicken, not shredded chicken. She said that's not a bad thing at all, just a change from what some might exoect. She thought it was a welcome change. She liked their cheese whizz a lot and liked the roll as always, so she was glad she tried it. It's worth noting that both sandwiches were big enough that we both took half of each home. I didn't get the name of the two people that were working there this evening, but I'd still like to give then a shout out. They were both incredibly patient with the customers ahead of us and they didn't make us feel rushed even though we were there fairly close to the time they close on Friday evenings. Another good visit to Clarke Bros. Here's hoping it doesn't take us so long to get back here again for the next visit!
