After being stranded on the side of the road for three hours, I was towed into the Sun Devil Auto in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Because I am from out of state I had no knowledge of even where to go for help. my car was an older car and in mint condition. The damage under the hood that occurred because of a hose coming loose was significant. They made every effort to locate parts so that my automobile could be fixed. I took my Hyundai Elantra here because the trunk wouldn't open. They kept it a few hours and charged me over $500 to tell me that the trunk was indeed stuck, and wanted more than the value of the vehicle to repair it (over $14,000). My 80 year old dad ended up fixing it with a $25 part from Amazon. Wish I could give my dad the $500 they ripped me off. read more

A terrible experience. I've always felt that if they can't even manage their appointment system properly, their maintenance work probably isn't good enough to keep your car safe. Here's what happened: My first time using their service was through a $49.99 Groupon deal for an oil change. However, when I arrived, I was told that the Groupon was just a coupon, and I was asked to pay an additional $40 to proceed with the service. I explained how Groupon works to the front desk, and they contacted the headquarters' technical support department, but got the same answer (that I had only received a coupon). The front desk staff was still very nice and eventually offered to match the Groupon price. But it struck me as odd--in the 21st century, with all this technology, their training clearly isn't up to par. The whole negotiation process took 45 minutes. After that, while I was waiting for the oil change, I submitted a refund request to Groupon, but they told me my coupon had already been redeemed. So I went back to the front desk to confirm, and they repeated the same explanation they'd given me earlier. I contacted Groupon again, and eventually, someone from a higher-level technical department must have contacted the front desk, resolved the issue, and allowed me to successfully use the Groupon. That wasn't even the strangest part--what happened next completely shattered my perception of a company's booking system. I booked another oil change on Sun Devil's official website. When I arrived, they told me they don't work at 12:00 PM sharp. I found that very odd and couldn't understand why the website would allow such a booking. But I didn't complain too much--after all, people need to eat. So I rescheduled for 10:30 AM the next day. When I arrived the next day, the front desk told me they didn't offer half-hour slots--all appointments were on the hour. I showed the front desk my confirmation email. The clerk showed me his screen, and I was shocked. He then told me my appointment had been rescheduled for 3:00 PM. I felt absolutely terrible. Sun Devil's booking system is a joke. I probably won't be coming back here, because I don't believe a business that repeatedly fails to honor appointments and breaks its promises can guarantee the safety of your car. PS: It seems the "Business Customer Service" response shows that they didn't understand the issue I encountered and simply brushed me off with empty platitudes. This also clearly illustrates the extent of the company's management chaos and the lack of training. I wouldn't bring my go kart to them. About 6 years ago I went to Sun Devil Auto for a air conditioner recharge. They took my car in and they came out about 30 minutes later and told me that I needed a complete A/C overhaul. This seemed odd to me because my A/C was actually working when I came in (not super cold but only cool). My brain said that something is wrong here. I took my car to another place and they checked everything and said all I need was a recharge (Freon) and charged me $129 opposed to the $1800+ that Sun Devil wanted. P.S. 6 years later, my A/C is still blowing ice cold with ZERO issues. Please, Please, Please take your car elsewhere! I would give them zero stars if I could. I made an appointment with C. Coley at the Fountain Hills Automotive Service location to have scheduled maintenance performed on my wife's 2017 Acura RDX. When making the appointment I was quoted a price for the complete service. I found the facilities to be orderly and clean. The manager, service writer and technicians were highly professional, courteous and very competent in performing their respective responsibilities. The price we were quoted was the prices we were charged and paid. They took the vehicle in at the scheduled time and performed the work within the time guidelines provided. The work was performed with quality and attention to detail. I will do the best I can to follow the guidelines of Yelp. Here is my story/review. I own a 2000 Ford F250 that broke down in Bashas parking lot in Fountain Hills Az. My truck just would not start. I changed out both batteries in the parking lot, banged on the starter, and still nothing. Since Sun Devil Auto is basically in the same parking lot as Bashas and less than 100 yards away, I pushed/coasted my truck over to them. Jessica told me their hourly rate was 175.00 an hour and they could not diagnose my truck until the following day. I knew this hourly rate was extremely high for this area, but I did not want to pay for, or have to wait around for a tow truck to take it to Auto Whisperer, who normally does my work and I figured saving the tow cost, I would break even on the labor. WOW was I wrong. The following day, Jessica called me back and said my starter had gone bad and it needed replaced. Not thinking much of the cost for a starter and not being able to fix it myself, having left, out of town for business. I had them change the starter. WOW, what a mistake I made. I was charged a full hour for diagnosing a bad starter. I called Auto Whisperer and their labor book calls for a diagnose time of 20 minutes and a starter replacement of 45 minutes. I double checked labor times with Vinson/Haas and they were almost identical. Total time 1 hour 5 minutes for both diagnostic time and replacement time. At 175.00 an hour or 2.91 per minute, labor cost according to the labor manual should have been 190.00 dollars. Please see my pic below. My labor charges were 350.00 dollars. ABSOLUTE RIP OFF. The starter, as shown in the pic, was 408.99. For a Remanufactured starter, with a 2 year warranty, I called both Auto Zone and O'reilly Auto Parts for a price on a BRAND NEW factory replacement starter with a lifetime warranty. I was told by both 220.00 dollars. ALL STARTERS, AT BOTH STORES, COME WITH A LIFETIME WARRANTY. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THEY ARE BRAND NEW OR REMANUFACTURED. So my guess is I bought a lifetime warrantied starter, that Sun Devil Auto then knocked the warranty down to 2 years free replacement, so the next time I come in with a bad starter, THEY will then claim the lifetime warranty and then charge me double the cost of a REMANUFACTURED starter. I can't tell you (people reading this review) enough, stay away from this place. I could have changed the starter my self for $220.00 and saved $618.06. I could have towed it to Auto Whisper, had them replace the starter, and STILL WOULD HAVE SAVED 287.60. If you have money to waste/burn, and don't mind or care if your being taken advantage of, then by all means Sun Devil Auto is your place. I almost reported an attempted theft today with MCSO today regarding Sun Devil Auto. I was quoted an astonishing $750ish for basic work on my wife's car. About five minutes a piece on the phone with two nearby competitors saved me about 40%. I fear they're ripping off the older clientele base in Fountain Hills. Shameful! Today, March 15, 2022, I received notice from Jeffry G, a manager at SD Auto assigning me homework. Sorry Jeffy, I already did it resulting in a final bill of around $400 from a reputable repair place with multiple locations as well. Perhaps I should recommend homework for you. I recommend actually spending time doing competitive comparison shopping yourself instead of asking a former customer to run your business for you. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I dropped it off for an oil change when I drove home three blocks later I noticed damage to my car. I have before and after photos and they will not take responsibility. They actually took photos of my car when I dropped it off. Kent said sorry we're not taking responsibility. We brought our Jeep in yesterday for an oil change. Then we went to have lunch. As we were finishing our meal the phone rang. It was a guy at the desk saying that our front struts were bad and needed to be replaced right way. For $1500. We declined and said we would take care of it at another time. My husband picked up the car. Drove it about 50 yards and the oil light came on. He parked and shut the car off immediately. Then checked the oil level. The dipstick was dry. There was NO oil. They completely "FORGOT " to add oil as part of the oil change. When my husband went back into the store he was met with resistance and unbelief. A tech finally went out with him to check the dipstick. And found it dry. It took until the next day for them to offer a free oil change next time. Not sure we will use it. One star is too much for this place, If you care for your car do not bring it here. I took my car in and let them know my oil was low, to check to see if it was leaking. It was not leaking on the ground. And there is a squeaking sound went I backed up. They had done my brakes and supposably I have a lifetime warranty on the brakes that is the only reason I took it there. Please see Part of my 1st letter to dispute the credit card charges! On 12/22/22 I took my car into Sun Devil Auto in Fountain Hills; AZ I told them to check my brakes I have a squeak when I back up putting on the brakes. (I have a warranty for my brakes there.) also asked them to check to make sure I don't have an oil leak just because my oil was low it was not physically leaking on the ground. They said, The reason was I need to replace the valve cover gaskets. The reason the squeak was because I am in terrible need of Front and Rear Struts, If I didn't do it soon It could cause damage to my car. (I also found that Greulich's just did the valve cover gasket on 06/04/2019 when it had 170,255 my car now has 186,579, I don't think it was the valve cover gasket. (See invoice- last 2 pages) Just for that it is was $1,734.46 that they cannot provide me proof that needed to be done. After getting the car back then it started physically leaking and I still have the squeak. Took it back 01/06/23 They said, they steam cleaned the engine and put in dye to determine where it is leaking from told me to drive 100 to 200 miles then bring it back unless it is leaking really bad. Took it back on 01/20/23 they determined from looking at it That the timing chain tensioner they put on was installed wrong and they can fix it on 01/23/23 I took the car back they repaired under warranty. I picked up my car around 5:15 as soon as I got home, I seen that it was still leaking it was also raining, I went to take it back they were closed. I called the Manager had left, the guy who answered the phone said, no it is not leaking they steam cleaned it again and that is why it looks like it is leaking I could bring it back the next day and "They will look at it" I told him I had a quarter tank when I dropped it off it is on empty right now. Where did you take it? They drove it 100 miles (mileage on the invoices you can also see that they put the wrong mileage in as well.) if I take it back in the morning there is no gas. So, I did not take it in I went to work the next day I showed my co-worker he said, Maybe give them the benefit of the doubt maybe they just over filled everything wait a bit and see if the leak stops well It didn't it got worse and worse I have a very demanding job and just didn't have the time to take it back in right away. I finally had a Dentist appt, so I was off early and went in to address the issue This was on March 7th When I walked in the guy at the front desk rolled his eyes like Not you again. I told them the leak is not fixed and it is leaking more also the transmission is leaking I said the transmission is on me I had discovered that I hadn't fixed it I was told I had a leak but the transmission pan was getting it so it wasn't physically leaking on the ground, Anyway the front desk guy and the Assistant Manager Jessica told me that this is a new issue and they would not cover it. I asked to speak with the manager Puna he was not there, and Jessica also said that since my car has been sitting for so long that is why I have leaks. (Her assuming I am a part-time resident in which I am not, and I drive this car every day.) March 8th is when I called and disputed the charges. I sent pictures and bills from 2 other repair shops in town 29 pages of evidence. The only thing they sent my credit card company was a letter and the copy of the original bill. I tried to include the letter they wrote it will not let me. They will mess up your car and not take responsibility for it. read more

******************** WARNING BEWARE ******************** ******* DO NOT GET YOUR VEHICLE SERVICE HERE ******** My 77 year old mother brought her car in to get the fuel pump replaced and the rear shocks. They told her it would cost her $1595. I contacted my mechanic shop Carsmart in Mesa and told them what they wanted to charge my mother. Carsmart quoted me $567 for the same service. Since they haven't done any work yet on my mother's vehicle I asked them what it would cost to cancel the repairs. They wouldn't let us cancel saying they already ordered the part and cannot return it. I asked for the breakdown in cost. They charge $604 for the fuel pump and $175 for diagnostic fee and over $350 for labor $350 for rear shocks and taxes. I looked up on Autozone to see what they charge for parts $200 Fuel Pump with lifetime warranty and $65 for the rear shocks with lifetime warranty. Spoke to Manager Puna and the District Manager Craig and they are in cahoots so don't bother talking to management. Just know they will charge you $175 diagnostic fee even if you get the work done with them. All other shops I know will waive the service fee if you get the service done with them but NOT SUN DEVIL AUTO. Please do the math and research before you get any kind of service done here. Check online with Autozone for parts because they will charge 3 to 4 time the amount. If you are a senior citizen they will take advantage of you more counting on you not knowing any better. THIS PLACE WILL ABUSE SENIORS OR TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM 100%. read more

I usually go to the Sun Devvil in North Scottsdale, and I love it. I wasn't able to make it to that location on time so I went to the one in Fountain Hills. I just needed a simple oil change. I was waiting in the VERY quiet waiting area for over an hour. I was the only person waiting. While waiting I could very clearly hear the "workers" talking about the different types of women they could and couldn't date and why (ie the woman's weight). That made me feel extremely uncomfortable. (I am a 27 y/o female). They went on to talk about smoking weed, and who was going to show up to a party. A guy had to go out there TWICE to tell them to finish my car. Once I finally got my car back I noticed dirty hand prints on my windshield that I know weren't there before because I had just washed it. I will not ever go back to the Fountain Hills location. Get your service done elsewhere. These people can not to a job right the first time. I had to help my adult daughter with the same issue at this repair shop 4 times for the same thing. The mgr came out and told me that they found the problem and fixed it, he sounded like he knew what he was taking about, he certainly did not. After several attempts and $1300.00 later they fixed that problem but broke two more things in the process. They could not fix them and sent us to Beat Buy to fix the alarm that they busted. Had an oil change at Sun Devil and they assured me that all fluids were topped off, tires rotated, and a complete inspection including checking air pressure in tires. Washer fluid was not topped off, air filter was not checked, and tire air pressure not checked. They didn't do a complete job and I do not recommend having your ccs serviced there. read more

We've been taking our two vehicles here for almost 9 years and have never had an instance where we felt we were not treated fairly. We brought our Nissan in for an a/c repair and after spending $450. the a/c was still blowing hot air the same day. The cold air did not last when it came on for a brief time and when bringing it back they said if it blew hot again to come back again they did nothing at that time to find out why their repair did not work. No cold air so we brought the car to the Nissan dealer and they said the problem was a seized up compressor and not a hose or loss of freon as Sun Devil said. Our bill was $1223. to fix what Sun Devil did not fix. When showing Sun Devil the paperwork from the dealer they would not give us our money back. Because Sun Devil did not fix it in the first place we wasted $450 and the a/c problem became much worse. They did not make good for their mistake and it cost us more than it would have had we gone to the dealer. read more

Sun Devil Auto - Nice waiting room, comfortable and clean - Auto Repair Near Me - Fountain Hills, Arizona

I have had my car serviced for simple repairs at Sun Devil Auto generally with good results. In March I had an oil change before I left for the summer and one of the techs and one of the managers told me I had leaking struts and I needed to replace all four struts. I did not notice any bouncing or suspension problems so I did not do the repairs. Their estimate was $2400 to replace all four struts. When I returned this fall I had another oil change they again told me I needed to replace the struts. My car is a 2002 Lexus SC 430. I had received a recall notice from Lexus to replace the Tecata passenger side airbag so I took the vehicle to Lexus. I had them check the struts at the same time. They told me there were no issues with the struts. I took this information back to the manager at Sun Devil Auto in Fountain Hills and confronted her with my story. All I wanted was an apology and that something be done to the tech and the manager who had clearly misrepresented the situation with my struts. I failed to get either an apology or a admittance of error on their part. Bottom line I feel like they tried to rip me off and I will not trust any input they give me going forward. Their response is disingenuous. I brought this to the attention of Sun Devil Auto so that they could restore my trust in their business. This issue has nothing to do with "recommendations". Their tech and customer rep told me all four of my struts wete keaking and needed to be replaced. By their own admittance even they couldn't find more than one strut leaking (I don't agree even with that claim) upon re-examination but I was told all four were leaking and they needed to be replaced not based on mileage but because they had failed. I did not become indignant either ...I requested an apology, admittance of error and that they discipline the offending employees in some appropriate way. They sre covering up their error. read more
