Used to be a fan of this company because it was cheaper and faster than a dealership for basic stuff like an oil change. Not any more! I have never paid more than $120 for both an oil change and tire rotation. This time I paid $194 for just the oil change! To add insult to injury I sent a complaint to the company through its website. The website was advertising oil changes for $44.95. No, I don't own some commercial vehicle but an ordinary SUV using common synthetic oil and it takes the standard amount. The company did not even bother to reply! So here I am. You might do better with coupons but these guys will also tell you the coupon is only for certain vehicles (never yours) or expired or something. Now, this is a greedy place looking to score a lot of money. Go elsewhere. Firestone and many others will do the same for well under $100. read more

I highly recommend Sun Devil Auto at 202 W Van Buren in Phoenix! We had a low tire pressure light come on in our Kia Niro EV and slowly drove to Sun Devil to have the issue diagnosed and repaired. It was our first time using their services. Their customer service was attentive, friendly, and professional. They determined we had a sensor issue, fixed the sensor, and inflated all 4 tires to optimal pressure. They completed all of the work in a timely manner, however I was shocked when I got the invoice. It was LESS than I expected! We well definitely be repeat customers should we ever need their services again. My daughters car broke down just before I had to fly out. She's a student in Phoenix. We experienced an issue with her car and knew it was a charging issue because the light on the dash and it clicked when we attempted to start it. It was the end of the business day and I had less than an hour to attempt to fix it before my flight. I Ubered over to the local auto parts store, purchased a battery and put it in. It was good, for 5 minutes when my daughter called to tell me the light was back on. Since it was after 5p, and I didn't think we could handle it in time, I had her park it and told her I would help find a reputable shop close in the area the next day so she could attempt to drive to with the new battery. Sun Devil was within a mile, so we decided to chance it as it's an 2003 Mazda Tribute. After assessing Sun Devil Auto and contacting them, they said they could take it in, so I sent my daughter over. They said they'd have to assess the issue and tell me what the cost would be. They called me to tell me that they suspected the alternator. Makes sense based on what I know of cars. They quoted me $425. That is DOUBLE the going rate for an alternator for a 2003 Mazda Tribute. Search online to see that for yourself. I called them out on it and they said they would get in more in line on the final bill. I approved the work to replace the alternator even though their labor and assessment were quite a bit higher than I've ever paid for any automotive service. They called later that day and said it would be ready. There was no discount for the alternator or any services when my daughter showed up. That's okay, I'll overpay, but do yourself a favor and don't do what I did. As a shade tree mechanic, I am fully aware of what things cost. While I understand some markup on parts, these shops usually get discounted rates and they chose to charge me double the standard going rate even after I made them aware of it. The fact that they charged me double the going rate of the alternator in the end and didn't take good care of us when they could've is a testament to how they operate. They were and are unfair in their practices. I would have loved to have provided them with a more positive rating, but it was far from deserved. Also, they do not take credit cards over the phone, so if you are out of town and your student needs their car, they'll need to have a physical card of some sort in order to finalize their transaction and pickup their car. read more

I brought my car in for an oil change a few weeks ago and specifically asked that they check my bushings bc another shop said they would need to be replaced and my steering has felt loose. They said bushings were fine. I went back last week for an alignment because driving my car felt like driving a boat and they said they would check the suspension before doing an alignment. They did the alignment and I still had an issue. Took my car to two shops and my front end suspension is totally wrecked (control arms and struts, bushings are old and warped which is reasonable given my issues and car age). The diagnosis by both other shops explains my issues. Sun Devil provided an alignment that would be useless because of my suspension issues, and they let me leave the shop TWICE with very intense issues that made the car unsafe to drive. I will never be bringing my car to this shop again. Find somewhere else. read more

This has been the forth time I brought my car into Sun Devil to have my A/C fixed. They charged my almost $500 to refill the freon and told me that everything was fine. I told them that the A/C works when it is cool out (between 70-80 degrees) but blows hot air when it is 90 degrees plus. I was told to bring in the car when it blows hot air, which is in the afternoon. When I bring the car in, they tell me that they only have one technician who leaves at 4:30 pm and they are too busy. I took the car in on a Saturday b/c it was blowing hot air but they don't have a technician who works on Saturdays. The person behind the desk became very defensive and told me that I need to work around their schedule and to either use Uber or rent a car for a few days to get to work. I found the experience extremely disrespectful and condescending. I would give zero stars if it was an option. read more

Don't recommend this place for luxury brands , especially mini coopers, they charged me over $1000 just to get it running, and then left my engine compartment in a mess, forgetting to put some of it back together and I even got a free tool out of it, and then the car was back in the ground a week later. First and foremost , I took my vehicle in sun devil for an oil change. i leave and come back to pick my car up and they tell me I have a problem with my coolant. mind you I already had a emission check everything was fine just needed an oil change. for one they didn't even put oil in my car for two they made another issue saying I have a hole in my coolant when I came back because my engine light came on so they made me pay a couple thousand to "patch up the hole" yet my engine light and oil light was still on the next day then they made me come out of pocket $6k to replace the coolant mind you the engine light and oil light is still on after replacing my coolant it is June 7th 2025 I seen them last year !!! til this day my car is still having problems stopping in the middle of the freeway and more !!! they completely ruined a good condition vehicle and I only had it for 8 months I do not recommend this place they are money hungry I came in for an oil change and left with numerous car problems this won't be the last they hear from me they are bad business read more

The customer service at this location on Van Buren is amazing! Alex is extremely knowledgeable and so truthful about what service your car needs. I brought my boyfriend who knows about cars to listen in to make sure I wasn't getting taken advantage of and he said that he everything that Alex said was accurate and not trying to upsell unnecessary services to any of the customers. I was a loyal customer since moving to Phoenix. The last time I went to this location, I went for an oil change and tire rotation with a request to put more air in the tires. When I picked up my car, all my spare change I had accumulated for necessary times was stolen. I brought it up to a manager and they offered a complimentary service. Very nice of them, but I declined as I just wanted them to know of a possible thief in their employees. Additionally, my tires had not been rotated nor inflated. I had to take my car back to them to get the tires done. Finally, I just took my car to a different service company, and my splashguard is missing. The new service company noted that none of the fittings were damaged, and the splashguard was not likely ripped off while driving. Most likely, the sun devil auto mechanic forgot to put it back on after service! Now I have to pay for a new one and replacement services out of my own pocket. I'm disappointed by this repeated incompetence and unprofessionalism and will most likely not return. I would recommend other places for your car maintenance needs! read more

They were very nice and changed it to my spare for free for me since my car company said they still had a warranty on my tires if I could make my way back to Tempe for the switch. Took a car in for brakes a week ago, they fixed them and suggested I also replace the brake fluid and air filter. So I did. Took it back in for another issue a week later and they call mid-day to suggest I replace the brake fluid and air filter, after literally charging me to do these same services a week earlier. When I brought this up to the guy he admitted they didn't even check the fluid in the car before telling me to replace it. But they were happy to suggest I do another flush and charge me $200 before I called them out. They then tried to gaslight me into thinking that I must've been somewhere very dusty, or in a rural area in the last week, because the air filter was extremely dirty. Which it was in the photos, but I live in the central part of town and haven't driven much at all the past week. Meaning they didn't replace it at all during the first visit and still charged me for it. Customers beware. I shudder to think how many people are being upcharged by this facility for services they don't need and aren't being done to their vehicle. If I had never returned this car to the same location a week later I'd have never known. My bad for trusting this place. I've learned my lesson, and will never leave without checking it myself, and I'll never return to Sun Devil Auto. I recommend everyone in the downtown area needing car repair to avoid this place at all costs. read more

Took my sons car up to Phoenix Sundevil also took it to send devil in Queen Creek also took it to a third-party. They said that Sundevil neglected to put a harmonic balancer on properly and a water pump and a timing chain which caused further damage to my car and now with a lawyer contacting them as cost us close to $3000 and I've gotten no compensation. My son's car is not running this happened in February and they are saying they are not responsible stay away from this company. Very very bad. read more

I had my oil changed at the dealership and they said I needed new brake pads so I decided to come to sun devil bc I can walk home so it was easier. When I brought it in they said all these other things were wrong and that it would be close to $3000. My car is under warranty so I was shocked and said I'd take it back to my dealership bc idk how they missed all of that. Which then I was told they may not honor my warranty due to negligence, which is insane I get my car serviced regularly at the dealership and I had just taken it there that's how I even knew I needed breaks. I paid for the other two filters, which on the paper say $84.50 total but I was charged $99 which was the estimate, not a huge deal but still weird. I take my car back to the dealership today and brought all the paperwork from sun devil to show them, they did a full inspection and confirmed that I only needed break pads. I'm just disappointed bc I feel like I was being taken advantage of, I'm glad I didn't just trust the people at sun devil bc my $3000 service ended up only being $350 at my dealership. read more

Got my oil done in about an hour. Good price. Leaving this review after getting in my car that was just detailed and see big black stains on my driver seat. This was a horrible experience. There are no words to explain how bad we have been treated. We would have never thought any place would treat customers with so much disrespect. Story time! I called the Van Buern auto shop. I explained to the representative Alex what the situation was. He told us the job could be done and because they had a great shop with everything that would be needed. I hire a tow truck take my vehicle and we get a call that the my vehicle was hydro locked. I know this was not going to be an easy fix or a cheap fix. They call me back and tell me that they are unable to complete job and did not even give me an estimate because they are not equipped. So they charged me a 150.00 for nothing(to their defense we did get a credit of 40.00). I was told to pick up my vehicle. I asked to speak with a manager and was told to call corporate. Wait the story does not end there. We tell the manager who called us back from corporate what happened. We felt that the diagnostic fee was charged but a diagnostic would not be honored at another shop and we would have not taken the vehicle if we knew they were not equipped. He explained that they are low staffed at this location. Again, not our fault how much staff you have at your location. Then, this is my favorite part he asked Can you even afford to pay for this. Do you know how much it is going to cost? I was like that is why I took it to your shop. I said a new engine can run from 5,000 to 10,000. Plus labor and he said TRIPLE THAT!!! By this time he was yelling over us! So, I got hung up on and I guess my quote was $30,000.00??? They think clients are stupid!!!!! read more

STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY WASTE OF $$ & TIME! I've got details, contact me! Went in for AC service, worse experience EVER!! Lie after lie! 1st day check system and fill, come to pick up it's blowing warm air! So mgr Alvin tells me to bring back Monday. I do. I call they tell me, it's your compressor and fan clutch assembly. I agree, replace it. I don't get any call, so I call at 4:40 told they're wrapping up and they close at 6. I get there at 5:40, long story short my truck is STILL BLOWING HOT AIR!! So now a tech is working on AGAIN, my ride has left and I'm now stuck pissed and hungry!!! Before leaving hotter than a _______ the tech tells me the condenser is heating up. Alvin tells me the next day (roughly @ 4:30p) that it was the valves bcuz my system was down a pound. They were doing the leak/pressure test. MORE LIES!! I go to pick up at 5:28p Tuesday and my air went from warm barely cold to barely cold on max AC w/fan on 4!! If I could give them 0 stars, I would. My family and I will NEVER return to another Sun Devil location. I took my car in for an A/C charge like I do every year. Seth told me that there was a freon leak in one of the hoses and would cost $700 to repair. After calling family, I was told we knew someone who could do it cheaper. Seth said they could offer a 10% coupon to sweeten the deal, but I still declined. After taking it to another shop, they told me that no hoses were leaking, BUT that there were grill clips missing and hoses were unplugged. It just needed the A/C charged like it usually does. Not only did Sun Devil lie about needing a new expensive repair, they also tampered with my car after declining their services. Not only is that terrible business, they potentially put the life of someone else in danger for declining their service. read more

Had an appt for 7am. Upon entering the door,I noticed a customer with no mask on also 2 employees weren't wearing mask also. There is a sign on the door that states "mask required when inside" but yet employees aren't following those rules. Also what is the point in having a 7am appt when the Techs don't come in til 8am? It's in convenience for the customers who have to sit for a hr not including the actual maintenance time. This is the 2nd time in a month coming here for my AC that should've been resolved first time around. Might just have to go back to my original maintenance guy. read more

Finally got my oil & filter changed (and only to make my dashboard lights happy).  Sun Devil Auto. $49+change advertised.  Actually $59.30. it was fast and it was good(as far as I know). I'd been warned about upselling by SD Auto so I told them "just oil & filter for now, that's all I can afford at the moment". They do the job, then come out and tell me "your brakes need work...dangerous...".  The same brakes that I had repaired about 12 days earlier ($395 some where else). Careful! read more

Sun Devil Auto has deleted my Facebook review of this shop, and has blocked my access to that page. I did not receive a reply to my most current message. Here is my reply to their response: "As I said on the call, it is an iPod Classic. There is no way to disable an iPod Classic. It does not have cell service, so that does not apply to this device. The model is an 80GB iPod Classic, and it is light gray in a black silicon sleeve. I do not have the serial number, because the iPod has not been connected to my current iTunes account. While I do not have the serial number, I do have a mix of music that is very unique to me. So if you have an iPod or two lying around your shop that you are planning on comparing serial numbers, we could use that as a substitute. Otherwise, I don't really understand why you would need the serial number at all. When I called to inquire if anyone in the store had seen the iPod, the store manager, Mario said "Sir, I do not hire thieves, and I trust my guys." I know that if I took an iPod out of someone's car during work, I wouldn't immediately go tell my boss. So you may not think you hire thieves, but in the end, there is no way of knowing that for sure. If it turns up, or if the technician remembers where he "moved" it to "while look for the wheel lock key" please let me know." read more
