I've brought multiple cars here (and the location downtown). Most recently I brought my car here for some suspension work and brakes. I received a high quote from the dealer. Turns out, Sun Devil was only about $100 cheaper (with a coupon). I went ahead and had them do the work since my car was already there and I didn't want to deal with setting up an appointment at the dealer. Their synthetic oil change coupon is a great deal but for anything else their labor rate is too close to what local dealers charge. read more

I have brought my vehicle into the Bethany Home Road Sun Devil Auto location 4 times for service, with today being the 4th and final time. The first time was for an oil leak, the 2nd time was for a new set of tires, and the last 2 times were for a tire repair or replacement. Each time they have serviced my vehicle I have had to call 15 minutes before they close to see what the status of my vehicle is. Thankfully after my first and second visit the person just forgot to call to tell me it was ready and I just had to go pick it up. When I called after dropping my car off for my 3rd service appointment at this location (and again, had to call 15 minutes before they closed to check the status), they told me my car would not be ready until the following day when the replacement tire arrived. At no point during the day did they call me and let me know this would be the case. One of their employees apologized profusely and maybe (I can't remember) gave me a discount of some kind. Despite my experience during my first three visits, I decided to bring my car back there today for another tire repair/replacement. Once again, all day goes by with no phone call. I called at 5:45 and asked them what the status of my car is. They told me they had to order a replacement tire and it would not arrive until the following day. This is the EXACT situation I was put in last time, and I even spoke to the exact same employee about my frustrations. He again apologized, and I told him this is all very disappointing and I would not be doing business with them again. Upon calling their customer service number to let them know of the situation, the gentleman I spoke to proceeded to make excuses about them being too busy or too overwhelmed to call. I told him that unfortunately I did not care what the reason is as not having my vehicle prevents me from commuting to work. Before I even finished what I was saying the customer service agent interrupted me and attempted to talk over me. I asked him why he continued to interrupt me, and he actually hung up on me. The "customer service department" provided the WORST part of the horrible customer service I have had today. I called back again and spoke to another gentleman and explained everything above to him. He was the only good Sun Devil Auto representative I interacted with today. He took down my information, apologized profusely, and told me the customer service team would call me back tomorrow to discuss further. Please let me emphasize I do not want anything for free, I do not want a discount of any kind. I am absolutely done doing business with this company and will never let anyone I know bring their car here without sharing this entire experience with them first. read more

I live in Chicago, but my college-aged son is working in Phoenix for the summer. Long story short, his car died and we had it towed to Sun Devil, based on the recommendation of a friend. We did not have an appointment, because it was a holiday weekend, but they got the car in to look at it first thing in the morning. They had a diagnosis for me before noon. Great spot for an oil change! It was so easy to make an appointment, and once I got there it was all lickity-split from there. I was in and out in under 45 minutes which was fantastic, but also the people that work there were very friendly and helpful. They even applied a coupon that I was having trouble pulling up on my phone, which I thought was above and beyond. Had a bad experience with one of the technicians who decided to go rogue and do a job I didn't authorize. I was so mad that I had to pay it before they would release my car. But the manager, Puna, made it right by giving me a fair amount of store credit. They have better prices than the dealership and their work has always been good when I have gone (when just doing the work I need). I would definitely go here before anywhere else. read more

Went for an oil change. Once done, I get in to my car and there was no floor mat cover. Most places use the disposable ones to protect your car from dirt and oil on employees shoes. My seat smelled like a dirty locker room. The next day I try to clean window with windshield wipers and the fluid was completely gone - no mention of that in service receipt and of course wasn't filled up. Who knows what else I'll find. Update/reply: Just to be clear, the gentleman who came out to collect my money and check me out after my oil change did not wear a mask. When I asked if he forgot it, he said he did not have to wear a mask if we stayed 6 feet apart, but he would wear one if I wanted him to. I said please do. He took a mask out of a box and wore it under his nose, which the signs taped to the counter specifically say is wrong. He only put it over his nose when I commented that without it covering his nose, he may as well not wear it. He didn't just forget, he actively resisted wearing a mask. read more

I was gonna go to German Auto down the street it they're lack of service caused me to check this place due to a referral from a friend. All i needed were breaks replaced. I called and was advised i could take it in the next Day as early as 7am. I took it on down and was in and out. The staff is super friendly and the craziest thing was that they called a couple hours later to inform me that my breaks had a lot left to them and didn't need to be replaced. This was crazy to me as they could have easily replaced them and charged me. But they called for me to pick up and didn't charge me a dime. They've earned a repeat customer. Thanks guys. read more

Worst service ever. My BMW was returned in worse condition than before. I was charged for OEM parts but they installed aftermarket parts. I took it in for a simple oxygen sensor replacement. It was running just fine , all it had was a "Service Engine soon" (SES) alert. 900$ later, my car won't run and they refused to fix or refund my money. When i took car back one of the managers just kept saying that it was probably a ghost that was causing my car to stop running after they did the repairs. I found his comments offensive and insensitive as I have a long commute to work and im very concerned for my safety because car is now stalling out or just completely losing power and dying out while driving. I got pretty tired of dealing with the firestone shop right around the corner from me in central phoenix and was in search of a new place to go for oil changes, tire rotations and other regular service type needs. I stared calling around on a Friday afternoon and Sun Devil was the only shop within 5ish miles of me that 1) was open on Saturday and 2) would let me drop my car off. Turns out their oil change is also only $19.99 and if you check in on Yelp it's even $5 cheaper. My favorite part about Sun Devil Auto is that they made time to take care of me without an appointment on a Saturday. While I highly suggest an appointment to better accommodate for your time and theirs, I'm happy to see they took care of me without one. They're friendly enough and didn't over promise me on their time, they were pretty clear that I'd be waiting all day for my oil change going into it. I dropped off about 10am, needed to be done by 4pm and they met that goal. There's no car wash, foot massage or shoe shine with your oil change, this is a limited thrills sort of place, I think I saw some chairs for you to sit in if you're needing to wait. Terrible experience with this location for auto glass replacement. They were referred by State Farm Agent. Dropped off my vehicle to have windshield replaced. My son picked up vehicle as we were out of town. On his drive home the window began to shake. He made it home and parked in my garage. When we got back in town I called my insurance agent at State Farm. He said he would call Sun Devil. Sun Devil came to my home to mobile replace my windshield. They inspected it and told me that their shop neglected to screw down side mounts. Repairman said their was also a chip in the window. He called his boss who said they will have to charge me for window! I called my agent and he told me I'd have to enter a new claim to pay for window because of chip! I argued with him but to no avail. This place got paid for 2 windshield replacements! Why didn't they just charge them for a chip repair on second windshield then had them replace it since it was their fault?! Because it was their fault and yet my Agent allowed this I will be looking for a new Agent. I am furious because of this I now Ihave an extra claim against my record!! **Update Below** The response from Sun Devil Auto is an outright fabrication, another Red Face moment for them!! First let me say that I actually have a video of my entire interaction with technician when he was at my home. I'm not posting it here until authorized. Details...I was in Alaska when this occurred. I asked my son to do me a favor and have my car serviced and windshield replaced before we returned. Ford serviced my vehicle first then my son scheduled for windshield repair. My son is in S/Scottsdale and my home is near Queen Creek. We chose that Sun Devil shop location because proximity to my son was better. So the "gap" between repair is because I was still in Alaska. I was very upset this happened to my son. Lucky for us my son is such a good driver. It could have been much worse for him and passenger! My son called me right away and I asked him to leave the car in my garage and I would deal with it. We called Sun Devil auto immediately and they said to bring it back in which we told them it was not drivable. So they said they could send tech to our home. We said it would be a while because of scheduling and us being in AK. We called a few times in between when we thought my son could be at our home but it never worked out. My son and I repeatedly told them we'd be out of town and would be for a month. So the car sat in our garage. My sons schedule did not allow him to sit and wait for them at my home and car was not drivable so there it sat in my garage knowing they had agreed I would just call when ready for repair. When we got back we called our insurance company to see if we could have someone else fix it because I didn't trust Sun Devil Auto Bethany Home. We were told they had to fix it since they did the replacement and it would be covered under warranty. I called for mobile Tech to come to my home. When Tech got here I recorded conversation so I could have a record in addition to photos. I had Tech explain what caused the windshield to come apart and he explained which is all on the video. (I can post his why if I need to as it's unbelievable!) We didn't notice the chip until Tech was here. He never offered to repair the chip and why would he when the entire windshield plus moldings were damaged due to the shops incompetence! Also why would he have the moldings and windshield if they didn't already know they were replacing the whole thing. Pretty obvious why. So Tech spoke to his shop, (I did too) apologized and told us the Manager said to enter a new claim. I said I was calling my Agent back who he said had called them. Then speaking with Agent he said since 2nd windshield had a chip a new claim had to be entered. I voiced my disagreement and dissatisfaction with my Agent. Since I had no choice I had it replaced and new claim was entered. My question was if it was only a chip then why didn't they just charge for a chip repair instead of the whole replacement again? It was their fault for doing a terrible job putting in the 1st windshield which caused extensive damage because they forgot screws thus new windshield. The Tech said he had to do what his Boss said. I agreed he did and said I would look into it later. I recently called State Farm claims. They agreed with me. It was fault of Sun Devil Auto and they will not fault me with 2nd claim and subrogate for cost. So I wonder why D.H. of Sun Devil Auto on Bethany Home would fabricate an incorrect story in response to my rating? He needs to own his mistakes and now owes me yet another apology. Maybe he thinks I'm suing, which I had no plan to do that or is he in fear of being dropped by State Farm? I stand by my statement and my 1 star rating for this location! I really liked this place. 2 oil changes ago they let me know that my brakes where thin and would be needed changed soon. So when my front brakes started making that noise I made an appointment. I told the guy on the phone, the guy when I dropped it off that my brakes needed to done so when the guy called me and said my back brakes where thin and would be needed to be changed I assumed he meant front and back. Apparently he did not. When I picked up my truck the front brakes still where making that grinding noise. I called and spoke with Shawn. Shawn first said that I might have brake dust on my brakes and that what is making noise. I'm no mechanic but I'm also not an idiot so I asked Shawn you mean the brakes you didn't fix and he said well he could know until he looked up the service report. I asked Shawn to pull it up so Shawn asked me if you could put on hold. Which ok but he didn't ask me my name or the make of my truck. After 15 min on hold I hung up. Went to the dealer. Front breaks totally shot. Back brake that Sun devil dis not installed properly and all fluid including coolant low. In all fairness they did not charge me for the front brakes but they did jerk me around on my time- which is priceless. Save your self and pay alittle extra and go to dealer @sundevil of course I declined. You guys missed my front breaks completely!!!. Did you even look at them? Did you actually change my oil or just mileage sticker? And then put me on hold and jerk me around on the phone..................not really sure what universe you are in? read more

I took my Mercedes because it's leaking fuel, first guy said there was a leak in 2 different places, second guy told me there was nothing wrong with my car and that it was not leaking. When I dropped off my car, my car had a bit less than half a tank of gas in it and when i picked it up it was totally gone so how are they going to say there is no leak!! Anyway will never take my vehicles there again waste of time, if they don't know how to work on Mercedes then just say so! Don't give people the run around. read more

Pretty awful experience with this place. Went in because my AC was not working, before they even looked at my car the salesman er.. "mechanic" up front was able to miraculously diagnose the problem as a lack of freon. I agreed to pay for the fill up, on the condition that that was actually what was wrong with my car, and so they filled me up and I was on my way, out almost $200. A week later my air was still hot and I called a couple places to get a second opinion. Not only did almost every place quote me half as much as Sun Devil Auto, but when I took my car in they were able to diagnose my problem pretty quickly... a busted compressor... nothing to do with freon. I paid my new mechanic and he fixed it quickly, shocked that Sun Devil Auto over charged me on a problem I didn't even have. Will never return to this place. read more

AVOID THIS SHOP!! This shop is disrespectful and dishonest. I came in for a simple coolant flush, I had just replaced the water pump and wanted to ensure that the system was free of air. Shortly after dropping the truck off I receive a call stating that they are having issues bleeding the coolant system due to an unknown blockage. They wanted $115 to disassemble and diagnose the problem. I reluctantly agreed. A couple hours after that they call again, now they are claiming the problem was a bad thermostat. This isn't shocking to me, I have a lot of experience working on vehicles and it's not unheard of for a cheap autozone thermo to be bad out of the box. Here's the problem. The guy wants $524 to put a new thermostat in!! He says the part is $100 (they're $44 at oreily, and $27 from rock auto) and "labor" is the additional $200?? You mean the reassembly labor that I already paid for as part of diagnosis? Or is this place so shady that they really meant to charge me $115 with reassembly not included? Now since I denied letting them rob me blind on a 10 minute job they're taking the rest of the day to put the truck back together (with no thermostat at all!!) whenever they're done I get to pay them $215 for wasting my time and treating me like a fool. read more

We moved into the neighborhood about a year ago and started taking our cars there. Good prices on the oil change, but ... they tend to forget the small stuff. For example on my son's car they have yet to reset the maintenance alert after any oil change. They also try to up sell you on everything. I know how to manage that, but my son had a pretty bad experience with it. He brought his Jeep Grand Cherokee in because it wasn't idling properly. They charged $115 for the diagnostic test and then told him they needed to clean it up in addition to replacing the part. They neglected to tell him that cleaning it up meant that that they were adding on a $170 fuel injection service. When I confronted the sales manager (who I'd never dealt with before and told me he's from back east) to say I thought they took him for an unneeded repair, he told me that he explained it to my son and told him that if he didn't get the fuel injection service the other repair wouldn't last long. I asked my son about this and he told me that the guy never said that. I believe my son. Bottom line - We have older cars and we maintain them well. We spent $1600 at this Sun Devil Auto last week (timing belt and water pump for my Lexus - I had to take that back because they didn't put a piece of the underbody back on - it was hanging down) and this repair for my son's Cherokee. So, we spend a bit more on repair and maintenance than most folks. We will not have Sun Devil do any more major repairs. Customer service was excellent and work was quality. I needed a new serpentine belt, passenger window motor replacement and a couple of small repairs. They had incredibly fast turnaround and got me in and out quickly. The new window part was faulty and they replaced it for free and with excellent customer service. I am hesitant to recommend mechanics but this is a spot I can do so without hesitation. Really wonderful experience! read more

First time customer, went for an oil change and tire rotation. After picking up my vehicle my tire pressure light was STILL on (was in when I dropped it off). I'm surprised as the tech who worked on my car should have seen the light as a reminder to check the tire pressures, which should be done as part of any oil change service... Checked my tires and realized that they never even rotated them! I requested it be done and the receipt reflects it was done, but the tires were never touched, no fingerprints or impressions on the wheels or the lug nuts. I am a ten year customer, that ended today. Appointment made one week prior for service- dealer kept car for 3 hours. I was told it would be another 30 minutes, after observing my car had not been moved from where I parked it, I asked for my keys back and waited for a car that was parked in front of my vechile to be moved so I could leave. The staff at the front desk was rude, and did not exhibit even basic customer service skills. We had to wait an additional thirty minutes after our car was finished, because of the disorganization of the front desk. We waited three hours for an alignment, and we had an appointment. The wait time would have been manageable if the staff had been more personable. The only reason we went to this location is because they have the updated machine for the alignment for our car. We highly suggest the Downtown location over this one. The staff is friendly and very competent there. The same could not be said for here. We will not be coming back to this location. read more

They are the worst! It's 119 degrees today and my cars ac failed. I called and spoke with Jacob who said, come on in any time between now 3pm and 5 and we'll see what's wrong. I arrive 4:35 pm. He's not there and the two jokers in the office tell me they are leaving at 5...even though their "posted" store hours are till 6 pm with the last car at 5:30. Oh, but I could leave it over night....what I'm going to walk home in 119 degree heat???? Are you out of your flipping mind. They lost not only the ac repair for my car, the check engine light repair, and any other random repair I will ever need on my older/failing car. I had called yesterday to schedule a time to come in and have my air conditioning checked / charged and they said it would take 30 minutes. When I went in this morning they told my husband it will be 30 minutes, so we went to breakfast while waiting. When we got back they still had not started and then proceeded to tell my husband well it may take 40 minutes but could be hours. Update: since your social media director/ your CSA wants to twist my words, I didn't get to mention WHY I suspected burning oil- I had a diagnostic done at a BMW dealership already and I wanted to look into that because it didn't need my immediate attention- but I won't be with your business for obvious reasons now. I said I wanted to see if the oil change would fix the SES light being on to start because I was on a budget for time that day. If you wanna reread and try again- that I tried to communicate many things to him but he'd talk over me. As to why I had to call back- I received another phone call and stated I'd be calling back which I don't see why that's a problem? The way you treat people as a whole now is glaringly obvious to why you have such bad reviews. Funny enough I went to a different franchise- not only did they confirm the opposite of what you're trying to force here- they also listened and my SES went off with the oil change. If I could give you no stars based on your tactless response, I would in a heartbeat. Won't be going to this Sun Devil. I spoke with a representative who tried to tell me my SES light (which is on, meaning I need an oil change or regular scheduled maintenance) and my CEL (check engine light, which is not on) were the same thing and that something was wrong with my car. He was pretty arrogant and spoke over me the whole time. I don't appreciate that as I feel, with his delivery/tone, that it was implied I didn't know what I was talking about- despite it being in *very* clear verbiage in the user's manual (not to mention, basic knowledge everyone should have of their vehicle). After a sudden incident with my car, I felt at a loss as to what I should do or where to go. Man am I happy I found this place! It was the closest to me and was the first place that popped up on google. They made the time for me when I came in and were so helpful. The repair ended up costing more than I planned and Pierre and the other gentleman there were both so kind and helpful. I had to wait a few hours for my car to be ready and with no place to go, they offered to even drive me somewhere or give me something to eat. I feel so good knowing that they had my best interest. I will defiantly recommend and will be visiting whenever I need to talk my car in. :) read more

I took in my Escalade a total of 3 visits. I had let Val know that I had oil leaking and needed my A/C checked and my transmission. They had fixed my A/C and he said that my transmission was fine and they changed out some parts that were worn, which is fine, and they said that they couldn't see any oil leaking. I was charged $1500. I took it home and it continued to leak. I called Val to let him know and he had me take it back and they found that my oil pan needed to be sealed and they replaced the gasket and oil filter. They had done an oil change, keeping in mind that they didn't see any oil leaking. I was charged another $500. I picked up my vehicle and drove it for 3 days. On the 3rd day, I checked to see if my vehicle was leaking and it was leaking very little. So, I reported to Val and he said that I may take it back. I asked if I would be charged and he said that he had to check it out first. Well, on the 4th day, my vehicle had leaked half the oil that they had added. I called and reported it once again, which at this time, I was very upset because after paying a total of $1800 this was happening but much worse. I once again asked Val about being charged and he rudely said that I kept asking and he had to check it out before deciding to charge me. When I was in the store, I witnessed Val being rude to another customer and scolded the customer because he didn't let Val know some info before hand. I felt embarrassed and that shouldn't have been said out loud. I finally received my vehicle after having another oil filter replaced. This filter was placed during the 2nd visit. I asked Val if the cause of the oil leak was due to not properly securing the parts and he said that no it wasn't. My husband, who is an aviation mechanic, said that he saw oil around the filter the night before half of the oil leaked. I wasn't charged. Caution: think twice before doing business with this shop! We had just purchased brand new tires for my wife's 2008 Volvo XC-90 at Costco and after making a sizable investment, brought our car in to have an alignment completed to protect our investment. After many positive experiences with Sun Devil Auto at their downtown Phoenix location, I was referred to their Bethany Home Road store for an alignment. This shop recommended new tie rods and an alignment which cost almost as much as our new tires. No apparent issues until 10 months later when my wife returned to Costco to get the new tires rotated after just 5,000 miles. We were shocked to learn that the front tires were excessively worn around the outside and the warranty voided - effectively ruining our brand new tires. I returned to this shop and spoke with the manager, Craig who told me gruffly that they can't warranty alignments and will not take any responsibility for my tires. He said driving over a simple pot hole could throw the alignment off. If I wanted, he could charge me to re-align and correct. Needless to say, I was extremely frustrated. The wear patterns were symmetrical on the far outsides of both front tires and clearly indicated that they simply weren't adjusted correctly after the tie rods had been installed. I had this verified independently by a friend who was a mechanic. Furthermore, I took it to a dealer who ran diagnostics and shared a print out of before and after results which showed the toe (both left and right front) being equally out of alignment. I paid the dealer to correctly align the wheels. Craig finally shared their customer service number, 480-751-6401. When I called to explain the issue, their manager Michael got back to me and was professional and listed to my complaint, however, essentially held the same position as Craig and stated that Sun Devil Auto could not warranty the alignment nor offer compensation for my ruined tires. He did extend an in-store credit for the cost of the professional alignment at the dealer. Although I appreciate this credit, I don't feel it is fair and I will not be returning to this store. I can understand how a mechanic may have had a busy day and forgot to set the toe adjustment. We all make mistakes. I don't understand how a manager or a company doesn't take accountability and own up to their mistakes. For not taking accountability and a ruined pair of new tires, Sun Devil Auto has lost a customer for life. read more
