Initially came in for a pre-purchase inspection as I was quoted a decent price and offered an incentive to get a discount towards repairs made after by owner Mike! Came in and was greeted properly, I can tell you staff is super friendly and will listen to anything you say. But that's about why I left two stars for this review instead of a 5. Dropped off my car on 01/26/26 for a pre purchase inspection and explained to them that I already bought car and just needed diagnostic. I'm currently in school right now and don't have time to fix my cars so I decided to take a chance with AZ auto repair. Owner Mike was really helpful and explained that they will do the best they can to find out what's going on with my car. Hours later they called me and said we're done with inspections... and threw me an invoice for components to my suspension. I said ok and continued to ask for data. Just suspension ? What about Engine condition, Tires, brakes, etc. The complete diagnostic of my vehicle instead of being slapped with an invoice. Mike explained to me that they're still working on a system to overlook car diagnostic, so being the understanding person I am I started exactly where they wanted me too. I asked numerous times to their staff (both mechanics & front office) is this the only things I have to be worried about and they said YES. Communication is very lacking between office and mechanics and I understand that these are really good people, there's just a fine line between being friendly and professional. I waited over a week for my car, called them numerous times to get updates, and was constantly told "it's ok we got you." I finally picked up my car yesterday 01/05/26 and was told again "you're good to go." Opened my car and seen floormats covered with dirt/debris/stains. I was offered incentives on Oil changes for free, free detailing, another free oil change. It's not the incentives that will lure business, it's just the overall treatment of a client. Test driving my car after repairs and steering wheel still pulls by itself, bad ball joint bushing, and just overall of the things I came in for weren't solved when the car was "test driven" for almost 90 miles! I didn't even speak to the mechanic that worked on my car. The friendliness of the staff and also the ability to listen is great. But if this shop had the mindset to "treat your car as if it was their own" then I would give it a 5 star! I still will be coming because of warranty on labor and parts but for reliability is a bit of a question for me. This business responded incredibly fast to my request. They definitely understood the assignment. They had the vehicle towed that afternoon, and it was only as late in the afternoon as it was because *I* wasn't available any sooner! So it was towed at 4:00 PM; I had a response before 5:30 PM to at included an estimate and an additional issue that needed to be addressed, too. Shirley, the young lady who I communicated with, was able to provide cost estimates for the tow, the *two* parts needing to be replaced, as well as the labor. And even with the tow ($180), and the extra repair needed, it was more affordable than the other place my B-I-L had found. Good job! read more

I have seen multiple times where they explain how the quotes from body shops are overcharging customers and ripping them off. I went to AZ Auto Repair and Body based on the reviews here and they did not disappoint. I went in for because my clutch would not engage and was quoted $1600 for the repair. Later they called and said they had found that my master cylinder was installed incorrectly and that my repair would cost $1000 less than quoted. They didn't have to do that. They could have charged me $1600, but they did the honest thing instead. My search for an auto shop I can trust is over! I'll be back next week to replace my headlights and AC compressor. read more

I took my car in a few days ago to have the air conditioning repaired, and first of all, the service provided by everyone there is incredible and highly recommended. Second, I already had a diagnosis from another mechanic, but a friend of mine recommended AZ Auto Repair and Body, so I went there for my diagnosis. After a while, the assigned mechanic came to the office and told me that my problem was not the compressor, as the other mechanic had told me, but rather a few hoses that were preventing air from passing through to the compressor. Long story short, my air conditioning is cooler than ever, and they charged me a fair price. It's been a month since that happened, and everything is still working great. After searching through Yelp for a reputable repair and body shop, I came across AZ Auto Repair and Body where there were many great reviews. I work a M-F job, so it was great to see these folks open on the weekend. I called on a Sunday and brought my car down for an assessment and was quickly provided an estimate on timing and cost for repainting my 2007 Honda Civic, which was REALLY sun-damaged. I mean REALLY bad. They were not only able to match my original black color with the fleck in the paint, but they also replaced my bumper and also installed the new headlights that we just hadn't gotten around to doing ourselves. We had excellent service and are really pleased with the quality. I wouldn't hesitate in taking another vehicle down to these guys again. I can't speak to the quality of their work, as I didn't move forward with having them perform the work. However, the communication was terrible throughout my experience and I feel like they did a bait and switch. I had submitted a request for a quote, that contained pictures, to color match and repaint my front and back bumpers via Yelp and received a quote of $600. I had gotten quotes from multiple businesses and this was a bit lower than others, so I called to confirm what I wanted done and the pricing. I spoke to a girl who didn't seem to know what she was talking about and I was not able to speak to a qualified individual who would actually be performing the service. She put me on hold to ask someone questions and confirmed the quote I received. She described a process that would take 5-6 days. I asked for a formal quote and was told that they would charge for that. When I came to drop my car off yesterday, who I believe may be the owner, came out to look at the car and was clearly unhappy with what the girl had quoted me. He then told me that it would be another $600 bringing the quote to $1200, which was double my original quote. He told me the quote I received was just to tape and paint the bumpers and not to disassemble which would be required for this job. Mind you, I had sent pictures so they should have known what was required for the job. He went on to tell me all about how it would be possible to paint the whole thing without dissembling and the paint would not last long if they just taped and sprayed, so I'm not sure why they would quote a service that was not recommended. At this point, I'm super annoyed that my husband and I had driven two cars all the way downtown from north Phoenix, so I go to leave. He then comes out as we're leaving and says he can do it for $400 instead of $600, since there was a miscommunication. I'm not sure what the miscommunication was other than them quoting a service they did not even suggest performing. I had no interest in this as I didn't trust this business anymore. Overall this was a huge waste of my time. Be aware that they will not honor their online quotes. They also had the nerve to message me back today on my original request quoting me $1200 now. read more

Brought my car in on a yelp review saying it was 5 stars. Dropped off my vehicle, was assured inspection, written report/videos/pictures etc. Reviews stated updates in timely manner. No contact first couple days, had to reach out to them..... a few times through out that multi day process; every time "oh we were just about to call you" "my mechanic just finished". Was impressed in the beginning, Had them run a full inspection of vehicle, everything they found was already what I suspected was wrong in the first place; front shocks, tie rods, axles.... They provided pictures of "damage" or why it should be replaced, was told to wait until the following day for full report/quote, etc. Next day was hit with more "problems"; rear shocks (understandable)...here is where things went down hill..... it was recommended i replace my brake pads..... mind you I had just replace my brake pads 3 WEEKS prior to the "FULL SAFETY INSPECTION". No pictures or video on WHY I needed my brakes changed for 200$ labor 120$ parts. When asked why my brakes needs changing after 3 weeks? "Oh standard brake pads wear down fast over time, which is why we install GOLD duralast brakes that don't 'wear down' as fast"...... what???!? I installed the red "professional" duralast brakes in the front with the import direct superior brand brakes installed in the back? Mind you the "gold quality" is below the red professional/import brakes. Again no pictures or "why" my brakes needed to be changed. Was given free oil change? They did provide video of them "slightly wiggling" my motor with a crow bar saying I needed to replace my "damaged" motor mounts for 480$ labor 174.04$ parts. All in all my car runs smoother than ever......impressed with the work, no doubt. Just hate that I have to check to make sure they in fact did replace with new parts. read more

Found a set on Amazon for 40 bucks. and lost a 10mm nut on my intake bracket when I tried calling and telling him about what happened. But they are all in the same ballpark and when we are talking about learning about used cars and compared to what you likely will pay its worth it to get a good opinion. They are one of the few places in the area open on Sunday. During the inspection, he figured out that the car frequently overheats, previous front end collision, previous airbag deployment (eventhough seller stated clean title), thermostat housing broken, motor mounts problem, front struts could be replaced, and something was glued back in place (see photo). All in all, he saved me from making a really bad purchase. I think all the positive reviews are well deserved and they are open on Sunday. read more

I can't express just how pleasant this experience was! My car got damaged Sunday on my way to go hiking. I called Sunday afternoon and spoke with Mike! The cart pusher at Walmart hit my car and left a scratch on my bumper which they wouldn't cover. It was a Saturday so not a lot of places were open but this place was so I went to get an estimate and they were able to get the scratch off and had my bumper looking brand new in less than 10 minutes and I was on my way. This shop made my day go from terrible to amazing! Super honest people. I brought my car here and they did a tear down of the front end to determine what damage an uninsured and drunk motorist had done to my car. They also got me an estimate for how much it would cost to repair. I ended up not going through with it but I appreciated their service and time.
