Depending whose working, some guys are rude. And kept my car for 2 weeks over an easy fix. I had them check on something they fixed because another car place said I had a leak on what they fixed and he said "that guy lied to you" as he points out the leak the guy that "lied to me" told me about. On Saturday 7/15/17 I took my '97 Grand Cherokee 4X4 to Aamaco because of a transmission leak. After it had been on the rack for 10 minutes Don took me back and showed me a very wet, leaking, fitting and then showed me that the transmission pan was also leaking. Don was very obsequious and talked as if he was in a popularity contest telling me how he grew up on a farm in Ohio, and how he is just a good ole farm boy, and how great he is with his kids, yada yada, as if I gave a shit. It would have been different if I were the only person there but several people were waiting to get their cars looked at. After I had been there an hour he gave me a verbal estimate of $1200, and told me he would call me next week to set up an appointment. He never called, so a week later I went to Sun Devil on Ray Road near I-10 and Dave showed me the transmission pan leak, and the neutral start switch. When I took the flashlight, and went to show him the leaking fitting that Don had shown me... surprise surprise, no leak. The fitting was totally dry. Did Don spray some liquid on that fitting before he showed it to me? In 10 minutes Dave gave me a written estimate for $377.44 and the leak was fixed, and the neutral switch replaced in less than a day. They also pressure washed the undercarriage at no charge so I could tell if there were any new leaks. Dave was all business and didn't waste time trying to be my new best friend; good! When I paid the bill it was for... $377.44. You be the judge. read more

There are a few times where I have come to this Sun Devil Auto and their service is exceptional. Immediately they welcome me and ask what they can help me with. They also look into the problem my car experiences as well as any other small issues they take care of it. I know my car is in good hands when I leave it at the shop for repair or simply for an oil change. They take care of my car which in that case takes care of me. I tend to drive from Mesa to this Sun devil auto because well it's the service it's quick to get the car in the shop and they do a very fast job as well. I have been taking my vehicles for years to SDA on Ray Rd. They have an honesty pledge that I have been able to personally experience. My battery died, so I took it to the local auto parts store to get tested. They told me that my battery was in perfect condition and what I needed was a new alternator. With that, I went to SDA and told Dave to please change my alternator. A few hours later Dave call me to tell me that my alternator was in perfect condition and there was no need to change it, all I really needed was a new battery. They could have done what I asked to be done which would had been several hundreds more that just a new battery, but instead they went far above what I expected, checked both again and saved me money. Unfortunately the industry is not well know for trying to save money to the consumer so it is very re comforting to find a group of extremely well qualified auto-mechanics with even higher ethical standards. read more

I am pretty loyal to the dealership when it comes to my car, but on a whim and the desire to get a deal, I hit up Sun Devil for a oil change. I got the standard call with recommendations to get my hoses replaced and a transmission flush. Based on the summer coming up and my mileage, I went forward with the work. I picked up my car later that day and upon making a sharp turn, heard a crazy grinding noise. I went back first thing the next day, and they called to notify me that my power steering now needed to be fixed. I found this to be highly suspect. I asked how this seemed to pop up overnight and they stood firm on that as being fact. I hauled ass back to get my car and take it to where I should have gone in the first place- the dealership. They popped my hood there, and I clearly saw where the power steering had been putting off some pressure. They took the car in to get a better look and discovered that there was also a splash guard hitting my wheel well that was actually making the grinding noise when I turned. This guard had not been replaced correctly after Sun Devil did work. The dealer also explained that the power steering issue could not have just occured in the 5 minutes after I left Sun Devil, as they claimed. I was sharing my story with a girl at work , her car was still at Sun Devil getting re-fixed after she paid for over $500 of work and her car having major issues the day after she picked it up. I despise the feeling of being taken advantage of or treated like an idiot. I will never let anyone I know go to this place. read more

When I first moved here, I found Sun Devil Auto and took my car in for a few routine services- oil change, tire rotation, tune up, etc. I had no issues, except the wait to get an oil change was outrageous! I got there first thing on a Saturday morning and it still took over 2 hours. You can get appointments but not for Saturdays, and I wasn't able to take off work during the week. Later on I got a different car (a Mercedes) and had a problem with the rear brakes. I wasn't sure a shop like this would work on German cars, but they assured me they take all cars, and my particular location even had a mechanic whose specialty was German cars. After taking the car in to have them replaced, the brakes seemed fine to me (mechanically)- but the shop I changed to seemed almost alarmed at how rusty/dirty the whole wheel/break area was. (When this other shop did my front brakes they were careful to wire brush everything and it made a huge difference!) The real kicker (that eventually lost my business) was when my car started having engine problems. It wouldn't start well when cold. I gathered up as many observations as I could and took the car in on a Saturday morning. It took them 6 hours to call me with even an estimate- told me I needed a tune-up, the spark plugs were in awful condition. Being an easy fix and pretty obvious to diagnose, I couldn't argue with that and had the work done. The next day, the car still didn't run any better. I dropped it off again, and the same thing- hours later, I got a call that they knew what the problem was, and this time it would be a little more expensive! (I don't even remember what part it was this time, some sort of oxygen sensor I believe..) Again, I paid, and again, the problem was not solved. They had me bring the car in one more time, and this time told me I needed a part that cost over $1000. I wasn't about to drop this kind of money on my $2500 car, so I eventually ended up taking the car somewhere else. (Actual repair cost around $200). If you are going for the bare minimum maintenance services, this place is fine. But if you need a mechanic to diagnose your problems the first time, I wouldn't go looking here. read more

This Sun Devil auto botched my transmission job and were very rude about the whole procedure. When I went to pick up my car, it would not start and they claimed it had nothing to do with them, despite another shop (after towing it to a new place) saying a part was not readjusted correctly after the transmission repair. There have been several transmission-related repairs since then, and I've had to take my car to different shops to fix all the errors they made in the repair that keep popping up. I went to the McDowell location and dealt with the manager, Barry. My car was mis-firing and need new spark plugs, plug wires and coils. Barry's side kick jr. told me that my car was fixed and ran great on the test run. Two hours later I drove the car and it drove worse than when I took it in. I went back two days later to confront Barry on the problem and he blamed me for not knowing what was wrong with the vehicle before I brought it in. He said because I didn't pay $100 for them to "diagnose" it that it wasn't there problem. I told Barry to fix it and he discovered that they installed the coil on the wrong cylinder. I would never recommend this place to anyone. They are very confrontational and do not stand behind there work. When there is a problem they are quick to blame it on the customer. When the car was done they did not try to hard up-sell me on anything else, did not overcharge for the oil change, and I even got a $5 discount when I checked in. I am graciously giving one star because that is as low as I can go to begin my review.... And let me also say that there was one individual who I truly felt was very committed to helping me and his name was Chris Knight.... So thank you to Chris for all the extra effort and the interest in figuring out the problem with my vehicle. In May of 2015 I took my jeep to the sun devil auto on ray rd just west of the I-10 ... I had already purchased a clutch kit and just needed someone to install it. Against the policy of the company RON, the manager at that time, allowed me to bring my parts and do the work for me. The price was decent for the labor and I agreed to have them do it for me ..... This ends up being a year long experience of my jeep being in and out of sun devil for multiple causes. I will say that at first I was very impressed by some of the concern and attention to my jeep to find the problem. Everyone I knew was bashing sun devil for all the problems I seemed to be having but I stuck by them because they did keep taking my jeep in and seemed to really be interested in finding the problem with it. They were also renting me a vehicle because they felt responsible for the problems.... I did appreciate this part of the customer service. However, they were not able to diagnose the true problem until nearly a year later .... Which was the rear differential making noise due to worn out bearings. Which I chose to take to another shop for repair because of multiple reasons which I will discuss next. Dave Godinez.... The current manager after Ron was fired, helped me through some of these issues and in the beginning seemed very concerned about the service his shop was providing and about my satisfaction. After the first 5-6 times I returned to the shop for different complaints I could tell that there was a bit of frustration which led to the FIRST TIME Dave Godinez raised his voice at me. When this happened I asked for the name and number of his manager which he and the other manager in the room named Dustin reluctantly gave me. Dave calmed down and we were able to get the business done for that day. The second time Dave Godinez raised his voice at me was a bit more of a show. It began outside the shop as we were about the get my driveshaft out of the trunk of my rental car and Dave LIED right to my face about a decision he made on my behalf WITHOUT CONSULTING me first. When I disagreed and reminded him how the story REALLY happened Dave through this arms up in the air and began screaming at the top of his lungs right at my face. That's right .... SCREAMING AND CUSSING in my face. That went on for a few moments outside ... Definitely long enough to draw a crowd from all the mechanics working at sun devil that day, as well as, the mechanics and customers from the neighboring brake shop. He was yelling at me to get my Jeep and get the F@&$ out of there .... Which was impossible because of it being in pieces and up in the air on a lift...... Then he ran into the office and slammed the door behind him. At this point I am past aggravated and follow him into the office. We yell back and forth at each other for a few moments .... I keep calling him a LIAR which he is .... And then there were threats of the police and he even gave me a countdown from 3 to 1 as if he were talking to a child... Through all of this they did put a new clutch in that I am satisfied with ..... A semi-new flywheel that was new when I took it there but re-surfaced after one days use WITHOUT MY PERMISSION and the cause of the second screaming match..... It took nearly 6 months to diagnose the rear differential problem.... They broke my exhaust manifold ... And I have returned three different times for bolts falling out of the exhaust manifold after.... They broke my handle that was on my rollbar to assist in getting into the jeep(drivers side).... They broke the knock sensor plug under the jeep and the shifter boot / interior ring that holds it to the floorboard in the jeep, which they tried to glue back together and return to me without mention....only to be found when an engine light came on less than 5 miles away from their shop and I returned yet again.... My exhaust tip had fallen off when I returned and was laying under the jeep.... I had the pleasure of speaking with the Regional/general manager named Chris Doster who is definitely a company man ... Defending and all but dismissing the fact that the manager of this particular shop screamed at my face and also that after a year of in and out my jeep had finally been inspected and gone over by a mechanic with 27 years experience!..... THANK YOU very much Chris Doster ...... Don't you think you should have had a qualified mechanic take a look A LONG TIME BACK ???!!!!!.... 2 employees fired, a manager that screams at you, and corporate BS!... GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

I originally was going to get the work done somewhere else and a friend told be to be careful of the place I was going. He suggested I stop by Sun Devil and have them look at it too. They were very honest but a little more expensive. I went back to the place that I got my original quote from and they had all these hidden fee and didn't quote me an out the door price like Sun Devil. Also played "oh let me see what I can do game." However, I did not like the consistent push to get more work done on my car. I politely said no and the conversation should've ended there. As long as my car is ready to go, I'm happy. Took my car in for an oil change and they said it comes with a full inspection (which they didn't inspect my brakes like I asked) well they said my air filter was dirty but had some time until it needed to actually be changed. Well 2 days later my air breaks, mind you my air worked PERFECTLY before i took my car there & just completely stops blowing air so I take it back and they tell me it going to be $400 to fix with absolutely no explanation. Got my radiator done a year ago. Overcharged me on a shitty radiator and it blew up while driving. Also, when I got the new radiator they didn't even fill it with any fluids so I had to buy my own and was overheating right away. I have been going here for normal checkups and oil changes for the past year or two and thats when I started to have problems with my vehicle. Only good for tire rotations if even that I'd go somewhere else. There's no good arguing with any staff as they will still try and pull a fast one on you. read more

I rarely write reviews, but this shop has really ticked me off over the phone. My wife goes there regularly to change oil, as they offer a pretty good deal. We had no issues with the oil change itself, but the mechanic approached my wife and almost caused her to panic by explaining in what supposedly poor condition her rear brake pads and rotors are. Gave her a $365 quote to replace rear pads and rotors on both sides. To me it sounded it expensive, but hey, business is business. So, my wife went to check Brake Masters next door, two days later. She gets there, and they cannot take the wheels off, as the wheel lock key was missing. I phoned in back to Sun Devil Auto, spoke with Mony, and was given a very detailed description where they've placed the wheel lock key. The other shop still couldn't find it, so I had someone from Sun Devil Auto, walk 30 feet and look for it themselves, and they couldn't find it either. I checked with Mony again, he apologized and advised that they would have to remove the wheel lock nuts. Though, that's not what I wanted, as it is a great safety feature, I agreed to it, thinking that ordering a new wheel lock key would take weeks and cost hundreds of dollars from the dealer. My wife was running out of time, so that would had to be done at a separate time. Meanwhile, I phoned in to the dealer and got a $28 quote for a wheel lock key, plus another approx. $20 for overnight delivery. Mind you, this needs to be taken care off right away as Sun Devil Auto mechanic scared my wife about the brakes being in a such terrible state, and she has a road trip coming up very soon. I called Sun Devil Auto, spoke with Dave, and advised him that there would be no reason to forcibly remove the lock nuts, as I will purchase the wheel lock key, but as a courtesy for losing a wheel lock key, they would have to either reimburse for the key, or provide for 2 free oil changes, which would approximately cost the same. Dave mentioned that he could reimburse the key, but he wouldn't provide free oil service, as their shop didn't lose the key. He quickly got defensive, and even though I tried to revert the conversation back to the fact, I am ok with him reimbursing for the key in lieu of the free oil change, he turned around on the spot and told me that the tire rotation was NOT performed on the vehicle, and it is only a complimentary service with the oil service change, and they don't have to do it. I remarked that the store keeps on changing their story, and at that point Dave backtracked on the offer to reimburse for wheel lock key, and angrily advised me to take it up with the corporate office! Excuse me Dave - firstly, even though tire rotation is a complimentary service, it is plastered all over your website, as something your shop would do, so during the oil change, you could have at least provided the common courtesy of approaching my wife after the service was done and advise her that the tire rotation couldn't have been performed due to missing wheel lock key. No one has approached my wife, so assumption was that the tire rotation was done. Secondly, when I called to inquire about the missing key, I was advised in great detail where the key was placed, only two days prior. My wife has no idea what that key looks like, so she couldn't have misplaced it since, and it is supposed to be tucked away from everything, in the special compartment with the spare tire. Thirdly, a mechanic who had inspected the rear rotors and who caused my wife to panic, could not have done so, without taking the rear wheels off. If a mechanic makes such a bold statements after inspecting the braking system THROUGH the wheels - it is misleading and dangerous sales pitch and he should not be working there. So either, the shop mechanics, including the manager, make outrageous claims in order to rip unsuspecting customers off, or boldly lie about uncompleted service and/or lost vehicle parts. Either or, this kind of customer service is unacceptable, and after I will get the wheel lock key reimbursement from the corporate office, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I can't be more happier and extremely pleased with this location. Mike and, I hate to say I forget his name (other gentlemen in the office) took amazing care of my situation. Fabulous team! I went in for a standard oil change knowing well that repairs were going to be needed. I recieved a call within30 minutes of dropping my car off. Mike explained exactly what was going on and needed. He reviewed all my financial options with detail and knew exactly what he was talking about. To my surprise, it was less than I was anticipating. Mike mentioned the repairs could be done on the spot allowing three hours for work. I was on a time crunch and did not have the 3 hours available to wait. He placed extra guys on my car and had me out earlier than I needed to be. They seriously went above and beyond what I would have imagined. I've gotten poor service at other places. Took the car into this location for some work and they had the car finished when promised for the price they promised. I love this auto shop! Took my car in for the first time to this shop, and the employees were very welcoming! Never made me feel stupid because I didn't understand the car jargon, and made sure I understood everything before letting me walk out the door. Very competitive pricing. Dave and his team were very professional, even when confronted by mistakes that were made to previous visits, and made sure to make things right for the other customers. I felt like I was hanging out with old friends, and the price/time frame quoted was right on track! I will never go here again. The first time we went was misquoted wait times for oil change. Understandable. The second time was quoted for spark plugs at a $10 per spark plug increase over cost. My wife set an appointment for 10 arrived on time when she arrived they were not able to see her because they took 10 walk ins in front of her and they told her to go to another shop because people show up a half hour late to their appointments so she should be penalized. I went in for an oil change they told me my shocks needed to be repaired and quoted me 372$ I went to 2 other shops and absolutely NOTHING was wrong with my shocks!
